Phantom's Requiem
Chapter 32
Unaccepting
"Who are you? Are you with Academia?" Yuto asked the grey-haired man standing across from him.
"I am the invasion force's Commander-in-Chief... My name is Edo Phoenix," he replied, stone-faced. "Since I can see that you're already hostile towards me, I'll cut to the chase. We duel here and now, and if I win, I card both of you."
"That's fine. Now that I know who you are, I won't hold back," the other boy glared. 'Maybe this way, I'll rediscover who I really am. I'm sorry, Yuya, but this is something I have to do on my own. Just like back then.'
Yuto VS Edo Phoenix
Duel Start
Turn 1: Yuto
Yuto LP/Hand: 4000/5
Edo LP/Hand: 4000/5
"I set five cards face-down. Turn over," Yuto declared, simply. 'This is...'
Turn 2: Edo
Yuto LP/Hand: 4000/0
Edo LP/Hand: 4000/5
"It's my turn, then. I draw! I summon Drilldark! Then, I activate Polymerization to fuse it with a Drilldark in my hand! Two heroes drilling the bedrock of destiny. Now become one and reign in the pitch-black future! Fusion Summon! Come on! Destiny HERO - Dystopia!"
Destiny HERO – Drilldark
Level 4
DARK
ATK: 1600
DEF: 1200
[ Warrior / Fusion / Effect ]
If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.
Destiny HERO – Dystopia
2 "Destiny HERO" monsters
Level 8
DARK
ATK: 2800
DEF: 2400
[ Warrior / Fusion / Effect ]
If this card is Fusion Summoned: You can target 1 of the Fusion Materials used for this card's Summon; inflict damage to your opponent equal to its ATK. Once per turn, during either player's turn, if this card's ATK or DEF is changed: You can target 1 card on the field; destroy it.
"I activate the effect of my Dystopia! I inflict damage to my opponent equal to the ATK of one of its materials! Meaning that you take 1600 damage!" Edo declared, as Dystopia launched a blast of energy toward its foe.
"I activate a Trap! The Phantom Knights Vanish! When my opponent Special Summons a monster, I can destroy up to three Spell or Trap cards on the field!" Yuto called out in response.
"What a mistake! The only Spell and Trap cards on the field are your own! What was the point of that?" Edo laughed.
"You'll see. I destroy three copies of The Phantom Knights of Shadow Veil!" Yuto exclaimed, as shadows covered his cards, which shattered.
The Phantom Knights Vanish
Trap
When your opponent Special Summons a monster(s): Target up to 3 Spell or Trap cards on the field; destroy those targets. If you choose to destroy more than 1 card with this effect, you must destroy at least 1 Spell or Trap card you control, if able. If a card(s) you control was destroyed this turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard, you can banish this card from your Graveyard, return one of them to the field in the same position it was in.
"We'll see if that gamble paid off in the end. Regardless, you still take damage from the effect of Dystopia!"
Yuto LP: 4000 – 1600 = 2400
"And now, this ends it! Dystopia attacks you directly! Dystopia Blow!" Edo shouted, intent on finishing off his opponent.
"I activate the effect of Shadow Veil from my Graveyard!"
"A Spell effect from the Graveyard?!"
"I summon this card as monster with 0 ATK and 300 DEF when my opponent attacks directly! I summon three copies of this card from the Graveyard!"
"So, the cards you sent before were..." Edo growled.
"Of course. I can read you like a book," Yuto replied, calmly. Edo could swear that he saw Yuto's eyes flicker a sickly golden color for the briefest of moments when he said that.
"Tch. Dystopia attacks your Shadow Veil! I set a card. That's all for now."
Turn 3: Yuto
Yuto LP/Hand: 2400/0
Edo LP/Hand: 4000/2
"I draw! I overlay my two Shadow Veils! I Fangs of rebellion unleashed from the darkness, rise up! Rank 4 Xyz Summon! Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!"
"You've walked right into my trap! D – Hyper Nova! Since you Special Summoned a monster while I control a Destiny HERO, all of your Special Summoned monsters are destroyed!" Edo declared in response to the summon.
D – Hyper Nova
Trap
If a monster(s) is Special Summoned to your opponent's field while they control a Special Summoned monster and you control a "Destiny HERO" monster: Destroy all monsters your opponent controls that were Special Summoned this turn.
As Dark Rebellion disappeared in a blinding light, the world seemed to fade around Yuto. He recognized this place. The burning city from his nightmares. Once again looking towards the flames, he recognized the silhouette inside of them. The creature from his dreams. Approaching it, his eyes trailed up towards its eyes.
"So, you've arrived," it spoke.
"Who or what are you?" he questioned. He'd never been able to interact with it before, but it felt like he'd been called here by it. What did it want from him?
"Simple. I've come to give you power. If you accept it, that is," it answered, the inferno surrounding it vanishing, leaving only its burning shape.
"How do I...?"
"Once again, a simple answer. All you have to do to accept me is rest your hand on my head."
"And what do you get out of this? The last time I made contact with a demon living inside of my head, I ended up with S."
"Nothing. I exist only to destroy. Concepts such as deceit are foreign to me."
"And if I take you up on your offer, you become mine?"
"Yes. I was born of your fury, so the two of us have the same goal. To destroy Academia. To see it burn."
Before he realized what was happening, Yuto's hand was outstretched toward the dragon's flaming form. Snapping out of his trance, he pulled his hand back, clutching it as though he had been burnt.
"You're not ready, then... Just remember that I'm always watching you. The next time we meet, my offer may be more... enticing," it stated ominously.
Awakening back in reality, Yuto knew exactly what he had to do in this situation. This would be the end. Either he would win now, or Edo would have one last trick up his sleeve, and both he and Kaito would be doomed.
'Lose? I can't lose... Not again...' Yuto thought, eyes shifting for only a moment. "I activate the effect of The Phantom Knights Vanish from my Graveyard! I return a card that was destroyed to the field! Rise again, Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon! Next, I activate the Spell Card, The Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic-Launch! Dragon from the dark depths! As the melody of souls echoes, revive on this battlefield! Rank 5 Xyz Summon! Be reborn! The song of salvation – Dark Requiem Xyz Dragon!"
The Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic Launch
Spell
Target 1 face-up Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 monster that is 1 Rank higher than that target, by using that target as the Xyz Material. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to it also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.) If this effect was activated by targeting a "The Phantom Knights" Xyz Monster or "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" you control: You can attach it to the Summoned monster as an Xyz Material. During your Standby Phase, if you control the Xyz Monster Special Summoned by this effect: You can target that Xyz Monster; attach this card from your Graveyard to that monster as Xyz Material.
Dark Requiem Xyz Dragon
2 Level 5 monsters
Rank 5
DARK
ATK: 3000
DEF: 2500
[ Dragon / Xyz / Effect ]
If this card has a "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" as Xyz Material, it gains these effects.
● Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Level 5 or higher monster your opponent controls; until the end of this turn, change its ATK to 0, and if you do, this card gains ATK equal to that monster's original ATK.
● During either player's turn, if a card or effect is activated that would destroy a card(s): You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 1 Xyz Monster from your Graveyard, and if you do, negate that effect.
"Rank-Up-Magic Launch then attaches itself to the summoned monster as Xyz Material! Dark Requiem Xyz Dragon's effect! The ATK of a monster my opponent controls becomes zero, then this card gains the ATK lost by this effect! Tragedy Dismissal!"
"Dystopia's effect! If this card's ATK is changed, I can destroy a card on the field! Dark Requiem dies!" Edo retaliated, believing his victory imminent. This Xyz user was skilled. If only he had been from Fusion, or had chosen to fight alongside them.
"Dark Requiem's effect! An effect that would destroy a card on the field is negated, then I Xyz Summon a monster from the Graveyard! Requiem Salvation!"
'If he attacks, it's over!' Edo thought.
"Battle! Dark Rebellion attacks Dystopia! Revolt of the Lightning Disobey!"
Edo LP: 4000 – 2500 = 1500
"It's over..." Yuto declared, approaching the Commander-in-Chief.
"So, what will you do now? Card me?" Edo asked, glaring at his foe.
Staring down at the Fusion user, who was kneeling on the ground, Yuto made his decision. Just like before, Edo could've sworn that he saw the Xyz user's eyes change. "I'm not going to card you, but only on one condition. Get out of my sight," he snarled. "Leave Heartland, and never return. If you do..." Lifting the soldier by his collar, he glared at him, eyes filled with animosity. "Next time I won't be so merciful," he warned. Throwing the Fusion user down, he turned to his comrade.
"Kaito... let's go back to base. There's nothing to report here."
"I can't go with you..."
"W... What?"
Ulrich362's Review: That... honestly went even better than I expected between Kaito and Yuto, then again I have a feeling that once things inevitably are revealed and the secrets come out things will get much more hostile. In regards to Yuto taking on Edo... or Yuto and Kaito? Well either way this duel won't end well for the Academia soldier. Zarc meanwhile... he's definitely in a very good position to achieve his goals, though I still can't shake the feeling that something he isn't expecting to happen will throw a monkey wrench into whatever he's plotting. Stop it, probably not but definitely cause him to have to adapt to an unexpected circumstance. I am a bit curious if the two dragons that appeared were the ones I'm thinking of and if so when the smaller one will make it's debut. What's going on with Yugo is definitely interesting and I have a feeling Rin won't like it. Incredible chapter, looking forward to the update.
In regards to Yuto and Kaito... you were saying...? Either way, there's a bit more info to go off of for the identity of the smaller dragon now. There's actually a subtle reference to what it really is in the last chapter I think you might've missed, though, seeing as you don't seem to be certain. The larger one also appeared a few chapters ago shortly after Yuto appeared in Heartland, though.
