Chapter 36: The Shield Hero's Work Log

Tatsuya outlined his plan to the king making it apparent he was leaving little room for negotiations on the subject. Once his approval was gained Tatsuya gathered together the people with the right expertise and added them to his party as he portal back to the village. Ryuteimaru had pinned the Basilisk down to the ground, good that would make things go faster.

"Beloukas was it?" Tatsuya unloaded the monster eggs he collected next to the wide grinning Slave Merchant. "I leave these to your expertise."

"Certainly Sir Hero. Shall I register them to you?" The Merchant asked looking quite eager to get the business done with.

"Not quite yet no. Does anyone know where the Ivyred's can be found?" To Tatsuya's shout two people who only vaguely looked like the girl in the Manor emerged. Vaguely mind you, they haven't seen the same hell she had. "We've things to discuss, for now though I'll leave the task of your daughter to my associates and his assistants here." Tatsuya stated gesturing over to Naofumi who was joined by Raphtalia and Kyubi.

"Where's my patient?" Naofumi growled with a large number of the people here instantly recognising him.

"You two, take him to the room Everlue has been holding the girl in." Tatsuya stated gesturing to the two guards he left in charge while he was gone who led Naofumi away to the lord's manor. "As for you two, with me." Tatsuya brought Beloukas with him due to his extensive expertise in monster rearing. Part of that was making slave contracts and binding them to the Ivyreds and Tatsuya just so that they could benefit from the monster growth bonuses, he also wanted his expertise on the class up process and creating more powerful monsters using that.

"This material is very versatile for the class up process Sir Hero." Beloukas explained while he held up a piece of the fire monster Tatsuya had killed the other day. "Another material type monster, say for instance balloons, can use this material to acquire fire attributes."

"As if the little bastards weren't nasty enough." Tatsuya muttered before his attention went over to the snake monster that Ryuteimaru still had pinned down underneath his claws. "What about that?"

"I wouldn't recommend it, such creatures tend to be rebellious if not raised from the egg. If you like I could buy it off of you for the Zeltoble Colosseum hmm? Give a little extra coin for your pocket, or that of the villages?"

"Fine. See to it that it's done." Tatsuya slit his hand on a knife and bled into the barrel of slave ink before applying one of Naofumi's healing potions to the hand healing it up in the process. "I'm going to go check on the patient now."

Whatever Tatsuya did to the guy who did this, it wasn't nearly enough. Naofumi has never seen anyone or anything this badly wounded before in his life, and this is speaking as someone whose seen Filo kick a dog with nine inch claws on. It would take the collective shield enhanced expertise that Naofumi had been gradually learning together with the actual medical knowledge of his medical team to unscrew this mess.

"I don't know what your beliefs are like towards abortion but..."

"Given the number of highly unpleasant drugs in her system the child should probably be granted the right of a quick and painless death." The leader of the medical team concluded without a shred of hesitation. "I'll leave the task of purging her system of the drugs to you. Though healing the damage done is going to take some stronger medicine."

"What kind of medicine?" Naofumi asked looking at the doctor suspiciously.

"Yggdrasil." Was the simple conclusion that the doctor had come to.

"Ugh. That stuff would be expensive to make even with my shield." Naofumi had the details explained to him. Thirty units of healing ointment, twenty units of Magic potion, ten units of spirit potion, plus a super high quality filter to eliminate all toxins and unnecessary components. It sounded simple but it really wasn't, there were dozen steps listed off and about ten separate mixtures that need to be prepared in a exact order, a single screw up meant having to start all over again from scratch. His shield could eliminate the bulk of the complications but still.

"Can we do anything with the Bio-plants?" Naofumi remembered that particular gold pot well.

During his humanitarian work he heard rumours about a sealed up seed inside of a ancient alchemist's lair inside of a abandoned mine. Of course seeing as how painfully aware of the not game like nature of this world Naofumi is he investigated the area thoroughly with his Full party. The results were fruitful to say the least, they discovered an entire vein of that magic thread producing ore, unlocked five new shields from the voice gengar bats that tried to screw with them in the cave and the Nue that had made the area it's home.

But the real fruits of their labours bore literal fruits, the Bio-plant seed. In less than thirty seconds each seed of this so called miracle plant grew into a mighty tree full of nutritious and tasty fruit for his party to enjoy. It was too good to be true, so Naofumi was inclined to believe it was, he refused to let his party leave the area until he knew for a fact why this hyper convenient thing was sealed away and he came to understand soon enough. Not even one day had gone by before the rampant mutations had kicked up a fuss. Edible fruit bearing plants gave way to horrific monsters, parasites, vine whipping creatures, pitcher plants the size of a house. It took fifty people five hours to get them all, the only good thing to come out of the experience, at first, was a dozen new shields that were unlocked in the process, until that is he started looking at the abilities they unlocked. The Bio-plant shields abilities complimented each other well, each new material gave him a shield which related to the seeds themselves when they didn't outright increase his stats. The end result of a day of unlocking shields was the ability to freely modify the various Bio-Plants. The key stat that he could alter was mutability, that was the one that kept the Bio-plants turning into monsters, but aside from that there was also ones that could limit their growth and fertility as well which made them much easier to manage. After finishing that failure of a ancient Alchemists work Naofumi set to work on his new humanitarian plan built around these bio-plants, go to famine struck villages, sell bio-plants with low but not no fertility, eat the fruit plant the seeds. Naofumi created individual variants of Bio-plants with different flavours for each town that he visited, he even drew all over the map he was given which replaced the established names of villages with different pictures of fruits and vegetables. Now he was thinking about what other applications he could think of with these.

"It's a shame I can't splice together different kinds of plants with these seeds. It would make producing all of the ingredients cheaper." Naofumi thought about the situation as he looked over the girl on the Bed, Rishia as he understood her name to be.

"We could just go to the Turtle Country and buy some." The Doctor stated as he shrugged his shoulders in indifference.

"Turtle Country?" Naofumi stated suspiciously.

"It's the only place where the filter's strong enough to purge the toxins from the potions exists, you could even say that the people of that country are experts at producing Yggdrasil." The doctor explained while he put on a medical mask to prepare the operation. "I'll do what I can for her here. I would appreciate your help."

"You'll have it. Raphtalia, explain the situation to Tatsuya while I'm busy here." Raphtalia nodded to Naofumi's instructions.

This was a awful lot of trouble to go through for one person, but Tatsuya needed to feel good about himself if he wanted the cursed weapon out of his head. Besides securing a pipeline on the most potent medicine in the world couldn't be a bad idea. Ryuteimaru would send the wrong message, so instead Tatsuya travelled there alone then used the portal bow to come back and pick up Raphtalia to help him have a look at the area. The people there were distrusting, even Naofumi's hardcore bargaining skills would have a rough time establishing a dialogue with these people and he was ultimately only able to secure enough of the Yggdrasil to count on one hand. Still something seemed very odd about this place: Tatsuya's keen eyes had done a full molecular scan of the entire area, he detected a unusually high amount of organic material in the rock and soil the country was built on. That didn't seem nearly as disconcerting as the revelation that it appeared to be alive. He also spotted the town's Dragon's Hourglass. It's sand was blue as opposed to the usual reddish pink and he wondered what difference if any that would make, the distinction was probably not good.

"Hmm. I'm going to have to conduct a more thorough investigation on this town the next opportunity that I get." For now though Tatsuya had a patient that needed tending to.

Naofumi and more than likely his party member had done a good job on healing Risha, the majority of the injuries she had suffered from were eliminated and the mutilated fetus in her womb had been removed along with the various drugs in her system responsible for said mutilation. That said the damage they had done was still there so Tatsuya had decided to take some measures.

"The Yggdrasil. Unlike you I've been able to reinforce my potion enhancement skills to be a little more potent then yours." Naofumi allowed Tatsuya to go in to feed Rishia the suped up health potion. The girl convulsed briefly as her entire body lit up with magical light, Tatsuya noticed her body working to correct the various damages that had been done to it with new muscle tissue being grown in at a rapid pace. Tatsuya noticed that she effectively went from being on death's door to having the approximate physical build and fitness of a Olympic level athlete.

"Kyubi, I think it's time that we call in the girl's parents." Naofumi stated prompting the fox to nod his head in agreement.

The pair of heroes and their companions left the manor and allowed the Ivyreds to return to their home.

"What's your plan?" Tatsuya asked prompting Naofumi to give a light response.

"Economic and humanitarian relief efforts built around some genetically engineered plants I've been creating." Tatsuya offered Naofumi two of the Yggdrasil potions he got from the town on the back of what he strongly suspect was some kind of giant organism. "When I fed one of these to my bow it unlocked a minor self healing ability and gave me the recipe on how to make more of the stuff." Tatsuya explained while he watched Naofumi feed one potion to his shield and stored the other one away.

"Ten percent per minute? Whatever it's not like I take a lot of damage anyway." Naofumi stated cracking his neck as he was almost on his way.

"The potions themselves are not nearly as interesting as the place I got them from." Tatsuya stated prompting a suspicious look on Naofumi's face. "Near as I can tell, the entire mountain range the city was built on seems to be alive."

"I've nearly been chewed up and spat out by a balloon. This doesn't really surprise me, and so long as it stays a mountain range I see no harm being down here." Naofumi simply dismissed the situation as not being his problem.

"Hmm." Tatsuya conceded the point as the Ivyreds came to talk with Tatsuya and Naofumi.

"We are eternally grateful to the both of you Heroes for saving our family." The two of them were sincere in their gratitude, that said Naofumi had a unique talent for knowing when people want something from him.

"Out with it." As well as a unique talent for cutting to the chase with as little tolerance for bull as possible.

"Risha can no longer stay in our town." The girl's father stated looking Naofumi directly in his eyes. "This is where she was kept... prisoner for months at the hands of that man."

"Not the most conductive environment for safe mental recovery." Tatsuya stated nodding his head.

"I have the emotional quotient of a brick and even I understand that. So do you want us to add her to our parties? Or do you want us to drop her off somewhere she can be safe?"

"Don't be naive Tatsuya, no where in this world is 'Safe.'" Naofumi stated making his opinion on the matter clear. "Once every thirty days there's a chance for some unspeakable horror to fall out of the sky somewhere in this country, a new hoard of these things are left unattended to in the wild every single day. If 'Safe' is something that she wants so badly then she should try to obtain enough power that they won't be able to threaten her again."

"Any ideas you'd care to share with the rest of us?" Tatsuya stated cocking a suspicious brow. "Growth bonuses. Human and Slave." Adding together Naofumi's Human and Slave growth bonuses along with base level growth Tatsuya roughly calculated 28% increase to her stats per level up, if it's his or Ikki's reinforced level growth then that equalled to 53% growth per level up, and if it's together that totalled to 78% growth per level up. That, put bluntly, was spectacularly huge.

"The slave Seal?" Rishia's father was looking concerned by this discussion. "There are benefits to the process, beyond what our legendary weapons can provide. For instance instantaneous communication across the battlefield. Shall I give a demonstration?" Tatsuya had Ryuteimaru fly across the desert, his large frame still within visible range but they were out of his ear and eye shot. "Tell me something you would like for him to do and I shall have him do it."

"Umm..." The Ivyred lord was looking through a pair of binoculars at the black figure on the horizon. "Can you make him spit three fire balls into the air?" Tatsuya said nothing but Ryuteimaru's actions spoke louder than words as three short bursts of flames appeared above the black figure off in the distance before he started flying back.

"With my power of flight I can watch the entire battlefield and allocate resources and troops as needed while raining death and salvation down from the sky. You recall when the former lord Everlue was brought back from the dead oh so briefly?" Tatsuya asked and the Ivyred's nodded their heads.

"Then you know that not even death has firm power over me. As long as my head is not blown off then it is possible to continuously resurrect a person from the dead. What do you think?" Risha... didn't take much convincing, unfortunately, she was at the end of the day a broken young lady lacking much in the way of will power. Everlue had seen to that with a great deal of enthusiasm. She possessed a unique talent for magic which made her suitable as Tatsuya's test subject.

"So this is a weapon you had made for Setsuna to copy?" Naofumi asked as he watched Rishia cling on for dear life riding on the C.A.D. spear like a broom stick.

"FFFUUUEEE!" Poorly, it should be noted. Harry Potter this one was not, then again try as he might Naofumi never recalled the Fire Bolt 3000 actually being a bolt of fire. That might have been making this harder.

"You aren't afraid that she's going to have a hard time trying to control it?" Naofumi asked watching Risha get thrown off of the thing like a potato sack. "That's why I need help fine tuning it's programming."

It had been two days since Risha had joined Tatsuya's party, the two of them were flying around the desert picking off groups of monsters until she had reached 10, at which point in time her stats had shot up until she was on the same level as most classed up people. After that the days of hell began. Risha had three 'owners,' her father, Tatsuya and Naofumi, the first took steps to ensure that no harm had come to her, complete with the Merchant's high class slave seal that couldn't be overridden, the latter two to ensure a massive power-up with the levelling. And now that Risha had that power she was helping the other heroes to get some.

"You'd think having the laws of physics reduced to numbers would make it easier to fine tune this stuff." Tatsuya stated as he once again worked to create subroutines inside of the spear's magic formula to make calculations based on Risha's stats, he was having a hard time adapting to this magic system and formulation, but once he had done that he figured it would be child's play coming up with the formula for the rest of the Legendary Weapon's C.A.D. transformations.

"Do I get a say in what kind of contraption you land me with?" Naofumi asked looking at Tatsuya suspiciously.

"No your armour has enough tacky spikes on it's own. That said I do have some ideas on how to enhance your defences further." Tatsuya stated fully aware that Naofumi would be desiring more offensive power and how to achieve that end.

"Oh joy, more defences just what I always wanted." Naofumi's tone of voice on the other hand made it quite clear how frustrated he was having to rely on defence as his face turned over the horizon to the desert. "Raphtalia, let's get everyone together, I know what our next destination's going to be."

Basically, Naofumi's entire party would be staying within the Ivyred territory until Naofumi and what few party members he had chosen to come along with him were in Zeltoble at which point in time he would come back to get whoever was willing to come over with him. On Filo's impressively fast legs it should take less than three days to get over there. The Slave Trader over heard his plans and thus plotted to hitch a ride over along with some of his cargo hauling equipment in order to do some business while over there, mostly just selling off the Basilisk to the local Colosseum, but also wanting to take the opportunity to show Naofumi some of the slave Merchandise his family has in stock. Course unknown to Naofumi there was also something else going on in Zeltoble at the moment, a situation that desperately needed one of the Heroes attention, and unfortunately he would be the only one in the area.

Xenvic: Perhaps, but as author I have the right to take creative liberties, and one of those are when you summon four sapient weapons of mass destruction to your world you take steps to make sure that they don't completely destroy it.
