Disclaimer: I thankfully do not own Twilight For this chapter, I tried to actually write it properly. As much as I hate Edward, I wanted to write this properly.
A/N: Thank you to my best friend (anonymous lol) for the idea you gave me for this story!
He's arranging a funeral.
The words kept repeating in his head, over and over. She was gone, gone, gone. Bella, his angel, the light of his existence, was gone. No matter what he'd said to her that day in the forest, he loved her. He couldn't live without her. So he would join her.
A plan began forming in his mind the moment he heard those dreaded words. Like he'd told Bella months ago, he would go to the Volturi. There was no point asking them to kill him; they'd just take him to be a member of the guard. It would be better to just give them a reason to kill him. That reason would be exposure.
Edward was sure he could get to Italy by noon.
It would be St Marcus day. There would be humans everywhere, so many people to witness him sparkling in the sunlight. So many people to expose himself to. If he got there in time, Edward could step out just as noon arrived, while the sun shone brightly in the sky.
He ran.
Edward didn't want to fly there, even thought it would probably be faster. He needed to move, to feel. He needed to release his pent up anger at the world. So as he ran through forests and towns, moving so fast he was a blur to anyone he passed, he let himself feel. He felt the pain, the anguish. He felt the yearning to be reunited with Bella. He felt the rage.
Once he reached a dense forest, Edward grasped a tree and ripped it away from the ground, throwing it into another. He kicked, he punched, he screamed.
He screamed so much, yelling at the universe, shouting about the unfairness of it all. He even begged at times, for someone to say it wasn't real, that his love was still alive. But he knew it was futile. She really was gone. She would never again go to him, so he must go to her.
He once heard someone say that suicidal people are just angels who want to go home. That was true. His Bella was an angel, a gift sent to him, someone he didn't deserve. She would undoubtedly go to Heaven, whereas he, Edward, a monster, was much more likely to go to Hell.
But Hell couldn't be any worse than what he was going through now.
Edward finally reached Italy. He ran at human speed past the stone walls, searching for the clock tower where he would reveal himself. It was twenty to noon; he would have to wait a while, before the time was right.
"Edward."
He stopped and turned. Standing there, amongst the crowd, were Felix and Jane.
"Aro will be interested to hear you're here. Come with us," Felix said. It was an order, not a request.
Edward followed, knowing he had to choice. He was lead into an antechamber, down a few halls, and into the throne room, where Aro, Marcus and Caius sat.
"Edward Cullen!" Aro exclaimed. "What a pleasure it is to see you. May I ask why you have come to us?"
"My love has died. Please. Kill me," Edward said quietly, sinking to his knees before the three Kings.
"Your love has died?" Aro asked, walking towards Edward, taking his hands in his own.
A minutes later, he released Edward's hand.
"Edward, are you sure you won't join our guard? I plead you to reconsider. The thought of killing a son of my dear friend Carlisle⦠I prefer to not dwell on it."
"I won't join. Please. I can't live without her," Edward begged, knowing it was in vain.
Marcus gazed at Edward for a moment, speculating.
"Perhaps, Aro, it would be kinder to kill him, no matter how horrendous the idea is. The loss of a mate is a loss no one can recover from. It would be cruel to force him to continue in life," he said.
For a moment, Edward had hope. Marcus, after all, knew how it felt to lose a mate.
"Certainly not, Marcus! You are proof that a vampire can survive without their mate. I am sure Edward here is capable of doing the same. Hopefully in our army."
"I will never join you," Edward said, again.
Aro shook his head. "Felix, please escort Edward out." As soon as the door shut behind the door vampires, Aro sat back down again. "Such a waste."
Edward made his way to the clock tower, pushing his way through the throng of humans. He had not fed for months, but the delicious scent of human blood did not affect him whatsoever. The desire for Bella trumped all.
Some small part of his mind registered Alice's voice, screaming at him not to do this. But nothing she said could stop him. His mind was made up. Alice knew that.
Dong.
First chime. It was almost noon.
Dong.
He took one step towards the light.
Dong.
The first two buttons of his shirt were undone.
Dong.
Then next two buttons.
Dong.
The last few.
Dong.
He began to slid the shirt over his shoulders.
Dong.
He could see Alice running towards him, screaming, pushing her way through the crowd.
Dong.
The shirt fell behind him.
Dong.
Another step forward.
Dong.
He closed his eyes.
Dong.
One more step.
Dong.
He was in the light, the sun rays causing him to sparkle. It was exactly noon. The twelve chimes had gone by- the last chimes he would ever hear. There were gasps of shock, screams, shouts. Edward ignored it.
He was only dimly aware of two vampires grasping his arms, dragging him back inside, away from the light and the prying eyes of the humans, who were gathering at the clock tower. Again, he was dragged to the throne room. Aro stood there, waiting, eyes blazing.
"Such a waste," the King said.
Edward collapsed in front of Aro, who put his hands either side of Edward's head. Then he turned.
The head came off, the body falling limply. Edward was dead.
His last thought was: 'I'm coming, Bella.'
It'll probably 11pm as I post this and I've been neglecting a geography presentation that I've barely started, due first period tomorrow. As much as I'm enjoying writing this story, I should probably try to get that done first. So there's a good chance that I'll be updating this story in the early hours of the morning (around 2 or 3), if I can stay up that long.Well, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and the story. Things will probably get a bit messy in the next chapter
