Amdiriel looked around as Rohal rode onward slowly along the path of the forest. The wind was light and the sun was shining through the trees. Amdiriel looked down, seeing she was in a dark blue dress, her black hood on her head, the elves around her all walking in silence in the same direction.

Amdiriel could feel her heart sink, knowing she was heading toward the port, to a boat to take her to the Grey Heaven, never to return. Suddenly a child, a young boy caught her eye. He ran through the trees as the scene around her had changed. The boy ran into the arms of a man, who was looking over a balcony, a woman standing beside him. The man smiled and picked up the boy and giving him a kiss. The man then passes the small boy to the woman who then placed a kiss on the cheek of the little one. The man then placed a kiss on the woman's lips as they then turned to look back out over the balcony.

Amdiriel could feel her heartbreak, she recognized the man, the man she loved, the man she lost, the man who should be king. The woman standing beside him was herself and in her arms would have been their son, around his neck the token she had given to Aragorn when she pledged herself to him. Amdiriel could feel a tear fall down her cheek as the scene in front of her added just like her hope did that day when everything fell apart.

"Lady Amdiriel." said a voice. Amdiriel turned to find one of the guides standing before Rohal. "We must not delay." He told her. Amdiriel was about to continue on but the doubt that she thought she had been rid of had returned. If she left would she regret it? Had she suffered enough? According to her uncle, yes. Could she endure more if she had to? Yes. Would she regret and wonder what could have been if she left? Yes and now she knew that.

"Take us back, Rohal." she whispered to her horse who then neighed and turned back to Rivendell. "My Lady!" called out the guide but Amdiriel did not turn back. She rode forward with new determination, she would stay and she would endure if that even meant that there was a glimmer of hope that she could have a happy ending.

Amdiriel rode hard all the way to Rivendell, not stopping until she found where her uncle sat, reading which was out on one of the porches that overlooked the garden. Immediately, Amdiriel descended her stead and ran across the grass, unclasping her cloak, letting it fall to the ground as she ascended the stairs. "Tell me what you have seen." Amdiriel demanded. Elrond rose to his feet in shock. "Amdi." he said as he stood at the top of the stairs. "You have the gift of foresight. What did you see?" Amdiriel tired again. Elrond could see the hope in his niece's eyes, he hated to say what he saw but he felt like he had to in order to protect her.

"I looked into your future and I saw death." he told her as he stared down at her. "But there is also life." She challenged. Elrond knew there was so he guilty turned away. Amdiriel picked up her dress as she climbed the stairs. "You saw there was a child. You saw my son. You saw me and Aragorn's son." She stated, knowing that he did.

Elrond stood with his back still turned to her as he rested against the rail and sighed "That future is almost gone." He told her. "But it is not lost." She replied. Elrond seated himself in the chair he was once sitting in. "Nothing is certain." He stated. Amdiriel knelt beside her uncle who still refused to look at her. "Some things are certain." She whispered to him and then raised her hand to cup his cheek and turn his head so Elrond would look at her. "You and mother always said that I was the hope to help end this war. That must have been certain for you to say that. I know that you are doing this to help protect me. I know that you promised her that you would." Amdiriel referred to her mother. "But she would not run, not now, not ever. She would stay and fight till the last breath and so will I because if I leave them now, I will regret it forever." Amdiriel told him. "Amdi-" Elrond tried to argue but she cut him off. "There is nothing that you could say or do that could change my mind nor is there a ship that could bear me across the sea. Promise me, uncle. Promise me, that no matter what happens, whether I am there or not. When the time comes you will reforge the swords and go to him, tell him to reclaim the throne. Promise me you will, when the time is right." She begged him. Elrond let a tear slip down his face. "I promise." he whispered to her before he wrapped Amdiriel in his arms.

The scene around Amdiriel suddenly changed as she spun around. She could hear the scream of war as she found herself in the courtyard of Minas Tirith. The sky was filled with smoke and ash, causing her throat to burn. Amdiriel spun around as she heard the sharp screech of the Nazgul. Amdiriel raised her sword as she stood before the Witch King of Agmar. "You have failed." He told her as he stepped aside to see Aragorn and Faramir behind him, both bleeding out. She could feel her heart drop but rage coursed through her veins. With a war cry, Amdiriel went to charge for the king but instead, she shot up from her slumber, dagger in hand. "My Lady?" Asked the soldier who had peeked his head in to wake her. "I apologize my lady but King Theoden requests your presence." He told her. Amdiriel let out a deep breath and nodded to the soldier. "Thank you." she whispered. Amdiriel swung her legs so her feet touched the ground as she took a moment to try and gather her breathing. Only then did she realize that she was covered in sweat and figured she needed to change.

In the tent over Aragorn was experiencing a similar event. He slept on his side, his dagger next to his head, put there out of habit. His mind far in a dream soon turned into a nightmare. He had been holding Amdiriel in his arms when suddenly she disappeared and he found himself staring at an entrance formed by skulls. The scene then changed again to Amdiriel lying in the ground, blood pouring from the wound on her stomach. He tried to get to her as he called out her name but he could not speak nor move. Soon the blood began to fill her mouth and a small drop of blood slipped out the side. "Aragorn, please." He could hear Amdiriel whisper right before she shut her eyes, a tear falling down her cheek as she did. Aragorn could feel his heartbreak into pieces as he knew the love of his life would never open her eyes again. He then reached for his Evenstar necklace but he watched as it fell from his neck and onto the floor, watching as it shattered into a million pieces as it did.

Aragorn immediately awakes from his dream as he sits up, he draws his dagger at the ready. "Sir?" asks the soldier who stood at the entrance of the tent. Aragorn takes a breath before he looks at the man who then says "King Theoden awaits you, my lord." before leaving the ranger to take a moment to calm himself.

Aragorn walked out of his tent and was about to continue on but stopped when he stood in front of Amdiriel's. He peeked inside for a moment to see if she was alright and if she too had been summoned. He found his answer when he found her looking through her clothes. He figured Theden had summoned both of them. He was just glad she was alright and alive. He watched her for a second more before he continued on to Theoden's tent, following two steps behind the soldier who had woken him.

As they approached the tent, the soldier stepped aside and opened it for Aragorn who then nodded to him in thanks before entering. Aragorn then saw Theoden standing talking to two hooded figures who were sitting on chairs. Theoden looked at Aragorn, to the hooded figure and then to Aragorn. "I take my leave." he told him before walking up to him. He looks at Aragorn for a moment before he proceeded to leave the tent, with Aragorn's eyes following in concern as he left. Aragorn turns back to the hooded figures watching as they stood and then turned while removing their hoods, revealing it to be Lord Elrond and one of his sons, Elladan. Immediately, Aragorn bows to the elf lord. "My Lord Elrond. Elladan" he greeted with his head bowed low.

"We come on behalf of all who we love. Years ago, I promised Amdiriel's mother that if anything were to happen to her, I would protect her until the time had come for her to join sides with the man that would bring her back to Gondor. As hard as it may be for me to accept protecting her is no longer my duty but yours. The witch-king will be there Aragorn and you and I both know that he looks to end her as she does him. Even if she doesn't he looks to destroy her because of her love for you and your love for her. The power of Mordor grows as the light of the Evenstar fails. I fear the Shadow is upon us Aragorn. The end has come." Elrond told him but Aragorn's belief refused to be swayed.

"It will not be our end but his." Aragorn said sternly just as Amdiriel entered the tent. "Uncle? Elladan?" she asked almost in disbelief as she ran into the arms of her uncle causing a small smile to come across the elf lord's lips as he held his niece close. They pulled apart after a few moments and then hugged her cousin tightly. "Where is Elrohir?" she asked. "He scouts ahead to assure a clear ride to Gondor. I am to join him when we are finished here." Elladan replied.

"What is it?" Amdiriel asked as she recognized the look of worry and despair in her uncle's and cousin's eyes as she took a step back to stand next to Aragorn. "What's wrong?"

"I fear your ride to war tomorrow but not to victory." he replied causing the couple to look at him questioningly. "Sauron's armies march on Minas Tirith, this you know. But in secret, he sends another force, which will attack, from the river. A fleet of Corsair ships sails from the South. They will be in the city in two days. You're outnumbered, my children. You need more men."

Amdiriel shook her head in disbelief, trying to find some type of solution. "There are none." Aragorn replied. "There are those who dwell in the mountain." Elrond whispered. As the words left the elf lord's lips a gust of wind blew not only through the tent but the entire camp, sending a chill through all the men including the man and woman that stood in the tent as an image of the face of the ghost they had seen earlier that day came to their thoughts.

"Murderers, traitors." Amdiriel told her uncle. "You would call upon them to fight?" Aragorn asked almost in disbelief as he continued "They believe in nothing. They answer to no one."

Amdiriel saw the determination come to both of her family members' eyes as Elrond spoke with a new determination. "They will answer to the king and queen of Gondor." Elrond said causing both he and his son to pull out swords from under their cloaks, holding them out in front of them in their hands. The couple immediately recognizing the blades as they felt their hearts pounding in their chests. "Anduril." Elrond stated followed by his son. "and Anduriel." Elladan said as he held out the second sword, both swords wrapped in black elven belts. "The Flames of the West forged through the shards of Narsil and Narsiel." Elrond said as he and Elladan stepped forward, now presenting the two swords in front of them.

Amdiriel and Aragorn both took a step forward, stunned at the gift that was being presented to them. Both looking down at the blades in front of them for a moment, reaching taking a deep breath, knowing the moment they accepted the weapons they accept their position as ruler of Gondor. The two then looked at each other, searching for an answer, finding it in the other's eyes. A tiny smile overcame Amdiriel's lips as Aragorn gave her a small nod. The two then turned back to the elf in from of them, carefully grabbing the weapons. "Sauron would not have forgotten the sword of Elendil and his queen." Amdiriel said softly as she admired the sword, now in her hand. Amdiriel and Aragorn both raised their hands to wrap them around the handle but hesitated for a moment. Then taking a deep breath when they knew they were ready and drew the swords from their scabbard, raising them before their face. The silver blades sparkled in the light of the torched around them.

"The blades that were broken shall return to Minas Tirith..." Aragorn said staring at his new weapon before looking to the women next to him. "Together." he said, bringing a small smile to everyone's face but all turned serious once again when Elrond spoke again.

"The man and woman who can wield the power of these swords can summon to them an army more deadly than any that walks this earth. Put aside the Rangers. Become who you were both born to be. Take the Dimholt road." he told them. Each of them took a deep breath then looked to each other, knowing what they had to do.

"We give our hope to men." Elrond told them, his features softening as did his voice. "But we keep none for ourselves." replied Aragorn. The two then sighed and sheathed their swords.

"Are you to leave us?" Amdiriel asked. Elladan nodded "We are. As should you. There is not a moment to waste." "We will see you out then." Aragorn said and opened the tent for them. One by one they exited the tent and made the way to the horses. Amdiriel let her hands flutter over the mane of Elladan's horse who let out a content noise, causing Amdiriel to smile before she turned to her cousin. "Are you to fight in Gondor?" She asked. Elladan smiled at her. "Elrohir and I intend to see the end of this war. We all have fought for too long to leave it now and not see the end." He told her. "Thank you." Amdiriel told him. "This war will end and we will all be there to see it." He reassured her. "Give your brother my love and if you see Faramir before I do, tell him I love him and I'm coming." "I will and we will try not to kill all the Orcs until you get there." Elladan joked as he hugged her. "You know how much offense I will take if you do. I think a duel may be in order." Amdireil joked back. "I will see you soon." said the elf before he moved to bid a farewell to Aragorn. Lord Elrond taking his son's place in front of her.

"Take grave care, dear one. There are more trials ahead of you." Elrond said. "Faramir?" Amdiriel asked softly as if she was scared f what the answer may be. "His injury was fatal but he lives. His fate is now in his own hands, he has to choose to continue on or to give in. Just as you had to." Elrond told her. Amdiriel nodded sadly. "I return to Rivendell to help protect the city should the battle go ill but I do not believe this will be our last meeting, dear one." Elrond then let his hand cup the side of Amdiriel's face "You have so much of your mother in you. Even now she lives in you as does Boromir and Haldir and all who have come before you. I am so proud of you and I know they would be too." "Thank you, Uncle...for everything." Amdiriel replied. A small smile came across the elf lord's face. "Always." He then pressed a kiss to Amdiriel's forehead and muttered "I love you, dear one." Amdiriel wrapped her uncle in a hug. "I love you too and will miss you." "As will I but be brave. The quest ahead is not over." He told her as he pulled away. Amdiriel and Aragorn then bowed to the two elves as they pulled their hoods over their head and mounted their horses.

With one more short nod and knowing look, the elves rode away into the dark as Amdiriel and Aragorn watched them go. Aragorn slipped his hand into Amdiriel's lacing their fingers together. Amdiriel looked up into the grey eyes she loved. Nothing needed to be said, both knew what they had to do. So hand in hand they went to prepare their things.

Elrond rode to the edge of the camp, watching as his son would go to join his brother to aid Rohan and Gondor. He looked once more at the cliff where he knew Aragorn and Amdiriel were preparing their things for what they needed to do. Elrond knew there was nothing more he could do for them, it was now their time to fight and grow as it had been his and Amdiriel's mother long ago. It was now their turn to fight against evil and hopefully, they would be the ones to end it. But as Elrond rode into the night he ould not help but pray to Eru that all his children would come home to him alive.
