Chapter Two
I look at the calendar in front of me and smile as I think of the things that have happened in the year since Bella nearly left us. I bought the house the day that it became available. Alice and I went to the realtor who was selling it and told him what we were looking for; he told us about his listing coming the next day. We looked at it and agreed to the sale the next day to give me time to get the cash together. Our lawyer and financial man, Jason Jenks, had a cashier's check by noon the next day and I signed the paperwork. By 12:10 PM on April 3rd, I was a homeowner.
Jasper, Emmett, and I made use of our vampire strengths and made the house a home. With Bella's help, which she did not realize she was giving, she decorated nearly every inch of the space. I had a full range of my man cave, which was the garage and a barn. Otherwise, I was more than happy to let her decorate everything. Even if it was purple and pink. She only wanted pink in Sadie's room. Princess theme for our little princess.
Emmett and Rosalie's house was next on the renovation list, and theirs took the least amount of time. Keeping a rustic feel to the house made the difference, but they got it upgraded with appliances and weather insulation.
Jasper and Alice's house was a mess. She kept changing her mind as to what she wanted, and we finally had to let her know enough was enough. She eventually agreed with us and stopped looking at future home looks.
With Carlisle being human, we assisted in making the house more human-friendly since once Esme was human they would be trying for kids. The reservation was happy with the new non-vampire doctor and gave him a position in the Quileute Health Center, which our family helped in donating money for it. There was a plaque dedicating the building to the honor of Jacob Ephraim Black, the chief that watches over the tribe from his spot in the heavens.
Carlisle told us what happened that made him change back to human. He suggested that we only do it if we really wanted it.
At some point, he got some of Bella's blood in his eyes. There was something in the blood that made him human.
Many vampires who wanted to go back to being human tried it with other human blood, including donated blood, and it worked. It worked best ironically with donated wolf blood. Many of the Quileute wolves took time out of their busy schedules to donate blood to the cause.
There was an unspoken rule that if a vampire came to the area, they were not to be killed on site. It seems word got around. Even to Voultura, Italy.
Marcus came with several guards and wanted to be human. Marcus did not want his life to end, just be different. Not unchanging. And someday die and hopefully be with his love after a thousand or more years without her. With his change back, it was deemed to be well received.
Several former vampires opted to stay in the area because it was easier. With Charlie being Chief of Police, he was able to make sure all the new fake IDs weren't discovered.
Jenks became more wealthy than he will ever know what to do. He eventually had to hire someone to help him and he hired a former vampire named Garrett, who ended up being mated to Kate Denali. Because Garrett could not remember his human last name, he opted to take hers.
If nothing else, it was a blessing. I am days away from my planned change back and I am excited beyond reason. I am the last of my family to change back. I wanted my Love to be home when I did it and she is finally coming home from the rehab center.
No matter the pain, it will be worth it to be with my Bella and the family we will make.
