Silver Beast: Positive Direction

(Backtrack: Sunday - May 17th, Port Hardy, BC - 4 months, 9 days and 7 hours remaining)

It was two days after the full moon when the Higurashi's officially moved into the reservation. Thankfully it had fallen on a weekend giving them ample of time to unpack and resettle. Thanks to Chief Mattaki's army of workers and Sesshomaru's connections with the SSFC they were able to move as quickly and as quietly as possible. They even came up with a valid excuse for the apartment complex office attendants so they could leave early without drawing unwanted attention from their neighbors and more importantly the police. Now that they were safely on the reservation the local authorities couldn't touch them. They could still request a search warrant of sorts but without a valid case they would be denied. Besides, the reservation had their own police and policies. They didn't need Chief Davidson or his gaggle of minions to maintain law and order on the rez.

The only time they could be confronted besides a search warrant was off of reservation property. It gave the Higurashi's a sense of security and peace of mind knowing they were being taken care of. They now had the protection of the Kwakiutl people and the reservation had their seer magic. It was a win, win situation for both parties. To the Higurashi's amusement, both Inuyasha and Koga helped Kagome unpack her room. It was a miracle her things hadn't been ripped to shreds between the two of them. It was definitely going to be interesting to see how this love triangle played out. Were it not for Chief Mattaki there to keep the peace, blood might have been shed in their tiny town house. Since Mrs. Higurashi acquired a new job, she would only be able to pick them up from school. Only problem was there weren't any bus stops near the reservation to take them each morning. Thankfully Inuyasha offered to pick Sota and Kagome up everyday.

Koga had offered for them to go with Ginta and Hakkaku in his truck but she politely declined. His truck could only hold three and squeezing another two was not only tight but unsafe. Besides, she was dating Inuyasha. It wouldn't be proper for her to ride with Koga. Koga to her annoyance continued to deny the fact that she was courting Inuyasha. He just waved off her excuse saying she was right about needing to get to school safely. Inuyasha was nothing more than an errand boy in his mind. After all, her safety was most important. Beside Koga being a blind fool her closeness with Inuyasha had not gone unnoticed by the other students at school. Everyone was shocked to see her step out of the passenger seat of his red Toyota Supra the following Monday. It was obvious by the way he opened the door for her and slung his arm around her shoulders as they entered the building that they were dating.

Eri, Yuka and Ayumi were on her the instant Inuyasha kissed her goodbye at her locker. They bombarded her with half a million questions, which she answered mostly with the truth. She'd told them they hit it off at the "wedding" the previous weekend while they'd been partying it up at Tama High's prom. They had a lot in common and have been seeing each other ever since. Hojo of course was devastated at the news. Kagome felt bad that his feelings had been hurt but she was more relieved that he finally realized she wasn't interested in him anymore than a friend. Things after that were relatively normal. The only thing keeping Kagome awake in class was the knowledge that the reservation would be having their own prom in a few days. She couldn't wait to dance with Inuyasha and to show off her new dress. Koga of course assumed he was going with her so when he'd asked what tie to wear. She'd told him to wear blue.

She wasn't sure how he'd take the news when he found out that Sango had lined him up on a blind date with Ayame. Apparently the shewolf was still head over heels in love with him and very excited to see him. She just hoped this match up wouldn't be a mistake. Hoping to get her point across that she wasn't interested in him she made sure Inuyasha would wear either a matching pink or red tie. With a black suit and white shirt he'd look perfectly with her Japanese cherry blossom dress. She couldn't wait to see what color he chose. Having made plans with Sango to get ready together for prom she made sure her room was clean and prepped. It had been years since she'd had a friend stay the night. She'd never had a serious girl friend like Sango before. Having her spend the night where they could do makeovers, watch romance movies and play video games with face masks and painted toenails was the most fun she'd had in years.

Her favorite memory was talking for hours with Sango about Inuyasha and Miroku. It felt nice having someone other than her mother to unload her worries to. Seeing how Sango has known Inuyasha most of her life she was able to help Kagome understand Inuyasha a little better. By the following evening Kagome felt ready for her date with Inuyasha. Thanks to her mother and Sango's help she was able to have her hair, nails and makeup done to perfection. Once she had her dress and heals on she looked like a high fashion Japanese runway model. Sango was just as spectacular with her baby pink and black tulle ball gown. With her black gloves, black lace bodice and little pink flower on her belt she looked like a Parisian princess. All that was missing to complete their looks were their dates. Since Kagome lived on the reservation now it wasn't necessary for the boys to come pick them up.

Just after the sun had set Sota equally dressed to impress in a white suit and green tie made the quick five-minute walk to the grand hall for dinner. To Kagome's relief it appeared the red headed wolf had already found Koga and was keeping him busy by catching up on lost time. There was no doubt in her mind that he and Ayame were destined to be together. One, they were both wolf demons and made an attractive pair. Two, the way they talked to each other was like an old married couple and their personalities complimented each other nicely. Plus, she could tell they absolutely adored one another, even if Koga might not fully realize it just yet. He just needed a good kick in the head to see what was right in front of him. She could sense that Ayame was on the cusp of adulthood like she was. Hopefully his eyes would be opened to the truth very soon. Not wanting to distract him from Ayame's undivided attention she and Sango sought out some seating on the far side of the dinner tables. They were starting to worry that the boys would be late when they saw Miroku walk through the doors.

"Where's Inuyasha?" Kagome asked as Miroku greeted Sango with a kiss to the cheek. "I thought you guys were getting ready together?"

"We were but he had to do some errands for his brother in town earlier. He messaged me a little bit ago. He should be here soon." Miroku said as he looked Sango up and down in approval. "Sango my love, you look magnificent."

"Really?" Sango blushed as she noticed the love and adoration reflecting in his warm violet eyes.

"Truly." Miroku smiled as he kissed her on the cheek once again. "You've outshined all of my expectations."

"I couldn't have done it without Kagome's help." Sango said as she tried to hide her smile. "She helped me decide over facetime."

"You picked out the dress. I just told you which one I liked best out of the options you showed me." Kagome chuckled.

"Still, it helped a lot." Sango smiled as she picked up the flower corsage off of the table. "May I?"

"Of course." Miroku smiled as he stepped forward so she could pin the flower to his lapel. Not wanting to let the opportunity slip past him, he wrapped his hands around her tiny waist and nuzzled into her temple. "You smell just as wonderful as you look my dear."

"Alright Romeo… calm down." Sango giggled as she swatted his chest playfully. "Let's eat before our dinners get cold."

"You guys go ahead and start without me." Kagome said as she got out of her seat to head towards the entrance. "I'm going to wait for Inuyasha outside."

"You sure you don't want to sit down? I don't mind waiting for him." Miroku asked as he helped Sango into her seat.

"No, I'm good." Kagome waved. "Thanks for asking though."

"That was sweet of you to offer." Sango said as Miroku slipped on her wrist corsage.

"I live to serve my dear. Anything you need just ask and it will be granted." Miroku said, making Sango roll her eyes.

"Anything huh?" Sango smirked as she leaned towards him making his eyebrows lift. "What if I asked you not to touch my butt for the next 12 hours?"

"Hahaha… stop being such a tease Sango." Miroku laughed before taking a sip of his drink.

"I was being serious." Sango frowned as she began to cut into the slice of chicken breast on her plate.

"So was I." Miroku answered with a straight face.
