Chapter 32 Zira's Resentment

It was late, even with the rain letting up Zira didn't want to go very far. Her group stopped in the Outlands. She found a hollowed out termite mound to use as a den for the cubs. Zira's friends looked to her for guidance. None of them knew what would lay ahead for them. For now Zira told them to look after the cubs and get some rest. But she herself headed out. She walked far away so no one could hear her. The skies were clearing. The first rains of the wet season were over. Zira looked up into the sky with malice at the stars…

"I hope you're all happy!" she screamed. "Especially you Mohatu! Look at what you have done! This is all your damn fault… I kept my promise! I never told a soul… But you still just couldn't let it go, could you?! If Scar had known what you did to me he would have torn you apart! All these years I've wondered why did you pick me? Was it because I was an orphan, with no one to care about me? Was it because I was from a pride that was far away, so no one would know you were screwing me? I was young enough to be your granddaughter! I was naïve! You said I could trust you. You said you would take me away from the pride that hated me, give me a better life. If only any of that had been true… You used me! And then when your body failed you, you blamed me for your impotence! Casting me aside, calling me worthless!

"I thought my world had ended. But I knew that you wouldn't dare tell anyone for shame that the Great King Mohatu was impotent and was no longer a worthy King. I had the power to ruin you! To question the legitimacy of your whole bloodline! But I didn't! No one else knew, so I thought I still had a chance to marry some Prince and live happily ever after… I didn't plan to fall in love with Taka. It was not some revenge on you! It… it just happened… But of course, you couldn't let your grandson have your leftovers! So you told him! But not the whole story. And what was I to say? Who would believe poor lowly Chipo, over the King of Pride Rock! Speaking out would have ruined me further. All would have condemned me, said it wasn't true. So I said nothing…

"You told Dejen to propose to me! You told me to marry him! You ruined my life, Taka's life, Adaeze's, Dejen's, everyone's! All so your selfish prick could have one last triumph, one last deflowering... Rendering me a lesser for your grandson, a Prince. How dare you?! How many more are out there that you fucking ruined?! How many bastard cubs do you have?!

"And the saddest thing of all is that Taka was just like you. He loved all that kinky shit the rogues learn from the older lionesses and he was better at it too! He only ever slept with two lionesses in his entire life! He would have been mine alone if you hadn't made him marry Adaeze! So for all your high morals and looking down on me, he saved himself for me, just let the sink in! He was so much better than you: a lion whore! Sleeping with every bitch you could get your paws on!

"I suppose it doesn't matter now… But I will still have my revenge! Your great-grandson will pay the price for your lechery! There will be no more golden kings to look down on those who would try to better themselves! To use and then abandon. I will make sure of that! Kovu will be the strongest lion this world has ever seen! And when he's ready, he will kill your precious bloodline of selfish kings once and for all! Scar deserved so much better than this! His legacy, not yours, will bring forth the future! Or at the very least destroy us all and end this terminal suffering you caused… For I am Zira now! Chipo is dead. No peace for the Great Kings as long as I live! Hate is the only thing I have left and you shall have it!"

Zira roared at the sky of endless stars, the legacy of Great Kings built on the backs of other's achievements. Zira was not weak. She was powerful and she would stop at nothing to avenge her King's death. The next day she would tell her lionesses her plan. They would follow her to the bitter end, for they too had been looked down on and wronged by the Great Kings. They would leave nothing but death and destruction in their wake, no mercy had ever been shown to them, so none would be shown to those who opposed them. A war was coming. The future of Pride Rock hung in the balance.

The price for treason would be death…
