Good news I'm going to be employed again, this brings me great joy, but it also means I have to do real life stuff. I hope it doesn't ruin my muse for writing, it shouldn't though, but we'll see. I enjoy this story too much to let it go unfinished. Anyways enjoy the chapter. And Happy Thanksgiving for all who celebrate.
Jane had gotten back to their house first, she had a thought and decided to wait on the porch until Maura arrived. Maura showed up moments later and she walked to the front door.
"May I ask why you are standing outside? Did you forget your key? It wouldn't be the first time that's happened," Maura spoke and Jane shook her head.
"Nope, I have my key, I was just thinking I never carried you through the threshold since we got back, and maybe not doing so has brought us bad luck."
"I see, I never took you as superstitious though," she grinned in amusement.
"I'm usually not, but it seems as though it might be true, it's been nothing but bad news since we've gotten back," Jane opened the door before picking Maura up. "Shall we?" she asked as Maura wrapped her arms around Jane's neck.
"Of course," Maura held on as Jane walked through the door, closing the door with her foot, carrying her to the couch before laying her down.
"See, I feel lucky already," Jane winked, looking down at her wife before pressing soft kisses against her jawline. Maura closed her eyes enjoying the feel of Jane's lips on her skin, she could forget about real life for a while and just enjoy this moment with the love of her life.
Her legs wrapped around Jane's waist as the taller woman rolled her hips against hers. "Mhm, I feel like our luck is turning around too," she whispered, holding back a groan. Maura felt Jane's hand roam up her inner thigh, as she cupped her through her panties. Chills ran up her spine at Jane's gentle touch. Maura relaxed against Jane, closing her eyes as she felt Jane's thumb stroke her entrance, she tilted her head back groaning softly.
Jane pulled away a moment just to look at her wife, she looked so relaxed and turned on at the same time. "You're so beautiful Maura."
"So I've been told," she licked her lips, tangling her fingers in Jane's hair, pulling her down so their lips moved together. Maura pulled Jane as close as she possibly could, she felt Jane enter her slick folds with two fingers. "Shit," she groaned, feeling Jane pump her fingers gently inside her.
Jane continued her movement of her fingers, enjoying the sounds coming from Maura, she started to move her fingers a little harder adding a third almost sending Maura over the edge in that moment. "God I love you so much," she continued with her fingers, kissing Maura's warm skin.
"I-Jane I'm so close," she closed her eyes moaning at how amazing Jane could make her feel. She groaned out moments later as an orgasm took over her entire body. "Shit," she gripped onto Jane's arms as the movement of her fingers slow down letting Maura finish riding out her orgasm.
Jane slowly pulled her fingers from Maura, licking off the juices left on them. "I'll never get over the taste of Maura."
"Well, I for one, think I need to return the favor," Maura sat up fixing the bottom of her dress.
"Maybe you can return the favor later," Jane ran a hand through her hair, nodding at Cailin who just entered the kitchen. Maura frowned and looked in the direction Jane was looking.
"Yeah, of course. But later we'll have the kids back," Maura pointed out.
"Well, you can return the favor some point in the possible near future," Jane got up from the couch, "Or the far future."
"Or just return the damn favor once I leave," Cailin spoke from the kitchen a smile on her face.
"You know she makes a very valid point," Jane smirked, "But unfortunately I have to go back to work," she adjusted herself. "I think I need some coffee, want to join me Maura?"
"Yeah, in a moment," Maura looked at Jane and Jane knew why she would be a minute. Jane nodded and went into the kitchen.
"Hey kid, how you holding up?" she asked the girl as she poured herself and Maura some coffee.
"I... I've been holding up alright, as good as I can be considering..." Cailin shrugged. "How did it go at the lawyer's today?"
"Well we went through Camille's will and signed some papers to be the twins' legal guardians before they get approved someone is going to have to check in to see if our home is fit enough to raise two children. And I mean it is Maura's house so they aren't going to find anything wrong with it. Everything just seems so surreal at this point."
"Yeah, definitely. I should get back to the guest house."
"We can chat some no need to rush out, Maura and I can continue our stuff another time," Jane drank her coffee. "I'm just taking a short break from work."
"I'll say, just maybe next time you girls can keep it in the bedroom, especially when you have a guest with access and clear view to the living room?" Cailin eyed Jane with a smirk.
"Yeah, we'll keep that in mind," Maura smiled warmly joining the conversation as Jane handed her her own cup of coffee. "So what have you been doing today?"
"Oh well, just organizing the guest house, I hope you don't mind me not having a time I plan to leave."
"Take all of the time you need, there's no rush," Maura nudged Jane who nodded along.
"What she said." Jane looked at the time. "I need to head back to work, got an important case I should get back to," she finished off her coffee before standing up. She gave Maura a kiss and Cailin a side hug before leaving out the door. Once she got out on the porch she ran into Tommy.
"You in a hurry there Jane?" he asked and she looked at him.
"What are you doing here?" Jane asked in return.
"Cailin needed some help with the plumbing in the guest house, figured it would be cheaper than calling someone to do it when I'm pretty good at it and I don't charge for family," Tommy shrugged.
Jane crossed her arms, "Any other reason for you being here? I know you, always having other intentions."
"I honestly don't know what you're insinuating, I'm just being helpful in her time of need. That's all."
"If you say so, she's hurting a lot right now and just doesn't need any more confusion and heartbreak in her life. The last thing we need is to lose more family."
"I know Jane, and I know how much Camille meant to you I wish more than anything she could come back into this world. She really was like the sister you never had," Tommy rested his hand on Jane's shoulder. "I'm just glad that she got her justice."
"Yeah, me too, but it still just sucks, you know?"
"I know that it does, but you will always have a part of her in your life, don't forget that."
"I don't think I could possibly forget that. I need to get back to work. Happy plumbing," Jane gave him a hug before heading to her car.
Tommy sighed and went inside the house, "Hey, Plumber man is here." Cailin and Maura stopped their conversation as they heard Tommy's voice. "Hey, hope I wasn't interrupting anything."
"Not exactly no," Cailin glanced at Maura for a moment.
"I'll just go get started then," Tommy gave them a look before heading out towards the guest house.
"Did he seem to be acting weird to you?" Cailin asked her sister.
"No, he seems like the normal Tommy to me. Anyways I should go see if the twins want to come home. I'm sure Angela and Korsak could use a break. Are you going to be okay here alone or did you want to tag along?"
"I think I should supervise to make sure he stays out of trouble," Cailin sipped at her drink.
Maura finished up her coffee and nodded, "That sounds like a good idea, but you stay out of trouble yourself."
"Of course I can handle myself a Rizzoli, it's in our genetics I think," the younger girl reassured Maura before heading out to the guest house.
"Sometimes I really worry about her," Maura sighed, and got ready to leave back to Angela's.
Tommy was in the bathroom fixing the plumbing underneath the sink, it was leaking as was the bathtub faucet and shower head. He was focused on his work as he heard Cailin come in. He took his head out of the cabinet and glanced up at her. "This piping down here is really rusted. I think I'm going to have to order some new pipes and then there's some water buildup behind the shower wall. I think the whole bathroom is going to need some remodeling."
Cailin frowned as he explained what was wrong, "So what you're saying is I won't be able to use this bathroom."
"Unfortunately yeah. Good thing I caught it when I did, if the pipes burst it would really be a mess. Lydia already had to stay at my place when her apartment got flooded."
"Yeah, I figured since there's a mister fix it man in the family might as well call him first."
Tommy stood up and wiped his hands on his pants, "Mind if I borrow your computer to look at how much all this is going to cost."
"Shouldn't you consult Maura on this? It is her guest house after all."
"I wouldn't mind getting a few ideas to run it by her."
Cailin shrugged, "Yeah, you finish whatever you need to do here and I'll get the computer set up. Did you want me to bring you anything to eat or drink?"
"Nah, I'm good, thanks for offering."
She nodded and went to get her computer up and running, "There really does seem to be something bothering him," she gave her head a shake as she thought to herself. Cailin honestly didn't know why she cared so much, she had thought it over a lot last night and she didn't think her and Tommy were a good fit right now, and she didn't want to keep him hanging on with hope of something happening. Cailin knew that he would be disappointed, but he would understand, hopefully.
When Cailin started the computer up and went on the internet to go on the hardware store, Tommy sat down beside her, she looked up at him. "So I shut the water valve off in the bathroom and just remember to not use it until I get it all fixed up."
"Well, sharing a bathroom with two kids and will be a delight. You know I never had to share a bathroom before."
"That's good, growing up with one bathroom was a nightmare at our house. Especially when we got older, there was one year when Jane spent the longest time in the bathroom, I wasn't sure who she was trying to impress. She didn't really include me in her personal life, but she expects me to include her. She makes no sense like that sometimes."
"I didn't think she let anybody into her personal life, I mean, this is Jane we're talking about. She hardly opened up I heard until Maura came into her life. And well you have a past and I'm sure she's concerned about letting you in completely. But that's just my opinion, from what I gathered," she explained, trying not to offend him, but it didn't completely work.
"Everyone always has something bad to say about me. Not being trustworthy is usually the main excuse," he ran a hand through his hair.
"I think you're trustworthy, just misunderstood to some people, but that's what happens. You mess up in the past and then it haunts you forever," she frowned, sliding over her laptop so it was in front of him. "People never seem to forget the bad stuff, it just sucks."
Tommy nodded, "You don't have to tell me, I've been living through it for 29 years." He sighed before getting silent, pulling out his pad of paper to write down any information he needed from the computer.
They sat in silence while he got his work done, "Are you sure you wouldn't like something to eat or drink? I can make you a sandwich."
He shook his head, "No, I'll be fine. I ate before I came here."
Cailin stood up, "Okay, but you're missing out, I make one hell of a sandwich," she went to the kitchen inside and made herself a sandwich.
Tommy kept on writing down prices, his mind trailing to their conversation they just had. "I have no clue what I'm doing." He put down his pen and leaned back in the chair, glancing at Chad near his feet. "You're lucky, you know that? You don't have all these conflicting feelings, who knew I could be so confused. You can hide away in your shell and what shell do I have? I try to act like nothing is bothering me, but it doesn't seem to work, there's a lot of things that bothers me."
Tommy didn't realize when Cailin came back inside the guest house, "Hey, are you okay?" she asked concerned and Tommy looked up.
"Shit. How much did you hear?"
"Just that a lot of things bother you. You know I confide in that damn tortoise too, he's a very good listener, and he doesn't judge, he's just there," she tore her sandwich in half. "I really rather not eat alone Tommy," she handed it to him and he decided to take it.
"Thanks," he sighed, taking a bite.
"So if you don't mind me asking, what's bothering you, besides the fact that people find you untrustworthy?" Cailin asked and he shrugged.
"I'm just, I'm confused."
"Confused on what?"
"Whatever this is I'm feeling, I don't know how to explain it and it's just bothering me," he put the sandwich down on the plate.
"I definitely know that feeling, I've been doing a lot of thinking last night about stuff, and well I'm not exactly sure how to begin to explain it."
Tommy glanced at her, "It has to do with us, right?"
Cailin nodded, "Yeah, it sort of does. I just it's a real hard time right now. Things are more complicated then they were when Camille was still alive, I wish they didn't have to be, but it just is."
He rested his hand on hers, "I get what you mean, we started doing what we were doing, and then this turn of events happened and you're more aware on how much you miss her. Conflicted on what you're feeling."
"I miss her like crazy and I don't want you to feel like you have to compete for my affections, but that's what I feel like this all is. I feel like if I give myself a chance to be happy I'll always be thinking of the what ifs and if it's all too soon and it's just going to destroy me," she pulled her hand away from Tommy's. "I don't want to feel like this anymore. The guilt continues to eat at me."
Tommy knew what she was getting at, it stung like hell but he understood her completely.
"This isn't easy for me to say Tommy, believe me, but I just feel like me and you... it shouldn't happen right now or anytime soon, or maybe even not at all," Cailin tensed up, waiting for his reaction.
He just sat with his hands in his lap, "I- okay."
"Is that all you're going to say?"
"I just, what am I supposed to say," he asked, sitting up straighter in his chair.
"I don't know, that you're sorry I'm feeling this way, that you want me to do what makes me happy?"
Tommy shrugged his shoulders, "I do want you to do what makes you happy, I told you that before remember? Whatever you want to do I'll respect your wishes. Doesn't mean I'm necessarily thrilled about the whole thing, just another thing I have to deal with. Everything is tough right now and none of us knows when it will get any easier."
Cailin frowned, "I know I hurt you Tommy, please don't let this ruin our friendship. I already lost Camille, I don't want to lose you too."
"You're not going to lose me," he slid her laptop back to her. "I'm all done with the numbers and looking at the different things Maura might like for the remodel. Whenever she comes home let her know we can talk about it over the phone or I could come back for dinner."
"Tommy, are you going to be alright?" she asked and he gave her a small nod.
"Rizzolis can handle anything, I'll be fine, are you going to be okay?"
Cailin shook her head, "I don't think I'm ever going to fully be okay, but that feeling could change eventually. I... I'll walk you to your car," she closed her laptop and put her hands in her pockets. Would anything ever be easy? was all she could think in that moment, hoping that this didn't destroy Tommy, this whole thing with Camille had already left her completely destroyed.
Jane was at the warehouse where Agent Dean was killed, trying to see if she could find any evidence on who else was in the warehouse that night.
Frost was looking around the spot where Jane said Maura and Crowe were standing. "Jane, I don't see anything, don't you think the Feds would have swept this place clean if they were framing Maura."
"Frost, we need evidence, I made a promise to Maura and I refuse to let her down. Wouldn't be good on me to break a promise to my wife, now keep on looking," Jane shook her head, looking at where she was standing. "Plus they didn't clean very well if his blood is still here," she groaned. "Who the hell else wanted to have you dead?" she kneeled down, glancing over towards Frost. "Any luck?"
Frost shook his head, "I'm sorry Jane, but I'm not seeing anything."
"Maybe we should widen the perimeter of where to look. There has to be some sort of evidence."
He sighed, looking at his partner, she was stressing herself over this and he didn't like how the Feds were messing with her and Maura. "You know Jane, it's going to be alright."
Jane looked up at him and Frost instantly regretted his words. "And just how do you know?"
"Because it will, they won't revoke Maura's medical license, she's the best damn medical examiner in the whole US. I have faith in it Jane."
"Well, I do too but it's impossible to get any answers. I am not going to let her down, I refuse to do so, I'll tear down this whole city if I have to to get my job done," Jane told him.
"Um Jane... did you hear that?" Frost asked, stopping Jane from her rant.
She stood up, "Heard what?"
"It sounded like a car door closing, I think someone is here. You don't think it's the Feds, do you?"
"I surely hope not," Jane looked around. "We definitely don't need them here."
Frost sighed, stopping in his tracks, "Wait Jane, over there," he whispered, pointing to a shadowed figure that entered the warehouse. "BPD, who are you?" Frost asked, and then the shadow figure bolted.
Jane groaned, "I really didn't want to run today," she frowned, rushing after the figure. Frost running in the other direction so they could have the person cornered. The figure ended up stumbling over there own feet, and Frost grabbed the person by the jacket. Jane came up behind them. "What are you doing in a crime scene?" she asked, a little out of breath.
Frost frowned at the woman in the jacket, "You better answer her, and take the damn hood off."
The woman did as she was told, "You know you didn't have to chase me."
Jane recognized the voice of the woman, almost right away, it was Gabriel's ex fiancee Jasmine Fischer, the woman who put both Frost and Maura in the hospital. "What the hell are you doing out of jail?"
"Gabriel Dean bailed me out a few weeks ago, and I killed the bastard," Jasmine shook her head. "Your welcome by the way, that female of yours wasn't going to do it, so I did and boy does that make me feel so relieved."
Frost and Jane looked at each other, "I think we just helped save Maura's license," Frost smiled at Jane, "What are we going to do with her though?"
"Take her back to the precinct, I want the confession on tape."
That talk between Tommy and Cailin left me destroyed feeling for the both of them, but it felt realistic to me at least on the way it was done. And that huge development on the killing of Agent Douchebag Dean case.
