Sunny glanced between her toothbrush and Katsuki's, sat in the little pot on the edge of the sink, side by side. It would have been cute if his wasn't smashed and flattened.
She grabbed it to carry into the bedroom with her, rounding on the blond as he lounged in her bed, one arm behind his head while the other held his phone up lazily, propped on his bare stomach as he scrolled through it.
"Suki, I'm throwing this away," She stated, marching straight across him towards the bedroom bin.
"Hah?" He was watching something on his phone, uninterested in her.
"Your toothbrush? What did it do to you to make you hate it so much?" She held it up for a brief moment before dropping it into the small, pink bin.
Bakugo barely looked her way, "I don't know what you're talking about. But you better have a spare."
"I do, under the sink," Sunny made her way towards the bed, clambering over Katsuki to get to her side. Although, she paused midway to plant a quick kiss on his forehead, even if it did make him grimace. She smacked his phone out his hand out of spite.
"Are you watching Tik Tok?" She asked excitedly.
"No," He snapped in response, grabbing his phone and closing the app before dropping it on the nightstand.
"I can't believe you were watching them without me. Will you follow me on it? I have 12 followers now!"
"No." He rolled over, flattening her in the process, but she was quick to loop her arms under his and start lightly dragging her nails up and down his bare back, shuffling her legs so his hips fell between her thighs. He groaned in approval, setting his chin over her shoulder as she began to purr. He was crushing her a little, but he was also boiling hot, so she was okay with it. It was like having a big, heavy, warm weighted blanket with a comforting heartbeat. She rubbed her cheek on his shoulder.
"Are you nervous for the exams?" She asked after a few moments.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because why would I be? I'll fucking pass with full marks."
"Oh, okay." She kissed across his shoulder, but he abruptly propped himself up onto his elbows to scowl down at her.
"Hah? You doubting me or something?" He snapped defensively and Sunny stopped purring, cocking her head to the side.
She blinked up at him, "Of course not."
"Why the 'oh' then?"
"That wasn't an 'oh' it was an 'oh, okay'."
Bakugo glared at her for a few more seconds, scrutinising her, before flopping back down with a 'tsk'.
"Goodness, you're such a typical Aries."
"Never say that to me again."
"So aggressive."
"Stop it." He sat up again, "Also, did I tell you to stop stroking my back?"
Sunny rolled her eyes and started her petting again, and Katsuki once again settled back against her, grumbling to himself.
"You're such a baby," Sunny muttered, "Classic Aries, so bossy."
"You didn't even know what a star-sign was until last week so shut your trap."
Sunny just hummed and trilled, gently nibbling at his shoulder.
"What about you anyway?" He asked her quietly after a few more minutes had ticked by. Sunny continued running her fingers over his back, and she pecked light kisses across his shoulder before answering.
"What about me what?"
"Are you nervous?"
Sunny shrugged as best she could around Bakugo laying on her, "Not really."
Katsuki huffed loudly at that, making Sunny frown.
"What?" She asked.
"Of course, you're not," He muttered, a little bitterly, "why would you be? You've got a decent quirk."
"And you don't?"
"And I told you I wasn't nervous, damn it!"
Feeling Bakugo grow stiff and tetchy, Sunny started purring again. She stopped her hands and instead slipped them further around the blonds back, pulling him into a tight hug. He huffed about it but didn't make a move to push away.
"Boy, society really did a number on you, huh?" She murmured against his skin.
"What are you talking about?"
"You're so hung up on your quirk, and everyone else's for that matter." Sunny pulled away a little then, turning her head to face Bakugo. His head was turned too, pressed against the pillow over her shoulder and looking right at her. Practically nose to nose, Sunny was able to rub hers against his, "If I was quirkless, would you still date me?"
Bakugo glared at her then, "If you were quirkless we would have never met."
Sunny shrugged, "You don't know that, we might have done. Answer the question."
"Tsk," Katsuki shuffled, avoiding eye contact, "I don't know."
Sunny's gaze softened. She wasn't mad about that, she actually found it really sad. She reached up to brush her fingers through his hair, still slightly damp from the shower she had been taking earlier that he had crashed, "You're more than just a flashy quirk to me," She told him, "so much more. I never thought I'd need someone the same way I need you," She smiled at him then, earnestly, because honestly she never thought she'd need anyone, ever. But she was okay with needing Katsuki, she liked needing him.
He caught her gaze again and scowled at her, "You're so lame."
Sunny's small smile split into a grin, "I hope one day you look past quirks too. There's far more to people than them," Then her smile faltered, "I was actually quite shocked to find society the way it is. Maybe it was because I was out of it for so long that I realised, but I couldn't believe that people are valued based on their quirks, although not officially, but in so many ways they are. I want you to know how much you're worth beyond your quirk. It isn't everything, you know." She paused chewing on her lip, "When I first met you, I knew I liked you – not like, like liked, but you smelt really nice, and I had no idea what your quirk was." She smiled again, "You're so, so precious to me, Katsuki."
Bakugo was still scowling at her. He sniffed and then turned his face in the other direction.
The conversation was over, but just as Sunny reached over to turn the bedside light off, she felt Bakugo curl up behind her. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back closely into his chest and burying his face into the nape of her neck.
If she didn't know any better, she would have said his cheeks were wet against her skin.
Sadly, Monday rolled around far too quickly, and with it, the practical exam came.
"Hey, kid."
Sunny turned, a big, cheesy grin slipping onto her face when she spotted Aizawa heading towards her. Immediately she stopped fiddling with the clips on her boots and went bouncing up to him, only for the teacher to hold his palm out and smack it against her forehead to stop her from coming any closer.
However, the hand on her forehead dropped to gently hold her chin, tilting it up high to meet Sunny's gaze with his.
"Whatever happens out there, just do your best."
Sunny blinked at him, grin faltering, and she cocked her head questioningly.
"I will," She replied assertively, "I promise, whatever makes you proud."
Aizawa's expression remained completely blank, and without skipping a beat he replied, "I'm already proud of you."
His hand dropped from her face then, and without another word he stepped away from her, heading towards the examination building where they would get their brief.
Guilt curdled in Sunny's stomach then. She still hadn't told him about the incident at the train station. It's not like she was trying to hide it from him or anything, the subject had never... come up.
But she would tell him. She wanted to. She just wasn't sure how.
They soon all found out what they were in store for with their exam. They were being split up into teams and pitted off against their teachers. Sunny nearly cackled when it was brought up that Bakugo would be paired off with Midoriya, although she abruptly swallowed her own tongue when she was told she was with Momo versus Aizawa.
Oh, no.
She had never practiced with Yaoyorozu, not really, anyway. Their quirks were entirely different, worlds apart and although Sunny admired and loved Momo to the moon and back, she had absolutely no idea as to how they were going to do this.
Not that she was much of a thinker, anyway.
Plus, they were up against Aizawa.
Tact was not Sunny's strong suit, and with Eraser Head literally rivalling her technique and fighting style, she was really stuck between a rock and a hard place. She was a close combat fighter, so she had to get close enough to Aizawa to hit him, to which he would just use his quirk and render her slow and lumpy. She could always start purring, although Momo might get caught in that too, and if Aizawa was quick enough he could activate his quirk anyway on her.
Damn it.
She really wasn't very good at this sort of thing.
"I like your new costume," Momo's sweet voice caught Sunny's attention, and she was so deep in her thoughts it almost made her jump. Her tail puffed up a little, but she was quick to pack it back down.
"Oh? Oh!" She keened, grinning brightly, "Thank you!"
Maybe she should have worn it a few times before taking the exam, break it in a little. Bakugo had told her to wear her boots around the house to get used to them, but she had ignored him and now she was regretting that. At the time, she'd just thought he was being a bit of a pervert. But now she realised just how much she had underestimated how different they were from her tights. They were glossy black, thigh-high with a thick, chunky, hot pink sole that could totally crush a cock or two, but she was walking a bit like a penguin.
The rest of the suit was pretty neat though. Instead of a stretchy material offering no support or protection, her clever little Hatsume had designed a costume made out of strips of a reinforced leather-like material. Some straps were matte black, while some were reflective, designed to catch an opponent's eye and startle them, making it difficult to track her when she moved quickly. The strips wrapped around her body, moving like a second layer of muscle to give her total freedom of movement while offering significantly more protection. Although it was a little stiff, it would warm up and become more breathable. When she twisted, it twisted with her. It was a bodysuit, cut high on her hips so she could swing her legs and use her new boots to their full potential. It came down over her arms to wrap around her hands, where her hot pink knuckle dusters sat neatly, spiked and matching her helmet.
Katsuki had taken one look at her and told her that now she definitely looked like a sex toy, although he had been grinning the whole time, so she took it as a compliment. Besides, this whole concept was his idea anyway, at least the boots and the helmet were, the strappy costume idea was Izuku's, and Hatsume had taken that bull by the horns and ran with it.
"So, erm..." Momo spoke again, quieter still and it made Sunny stop walking as she led the way through an alley. She wasn't really sure where they were going, but Yaoyorozu seemed to be content with following her. "What's your plan?"
Sunny's eyes bugged out, "My plan?! I was relying on you!"
"Me?!" Momo looked uncomfortable, "You were relying on me?! I couldn't possibly! You're the one who knows what they're doing here. This is way out of my depth."
Sunny scratched behind her ear nervously, "Alright, so, maybe, can you make something to help us find him? We need to find him before he finds us. Maybe then I could lull him long enough with my purring for us to tie him up? He just needs to be immobile and not be able to see me, and then you can sneak on in and tie him up."
Momo looked as unsure as Sunny felt.
Simple enough though, right?
What could possibly go wrong?
A lot. Apparently. As Sunny went flying through a window only minutes later. She heard Momo shout after her, but with her quirk deactivated from wherever Aizawa had now hopped off to, she was really struggling to see and hear.
And walk, apparently.
She took one step and nearly keeled straight back over.
These boots are really heavy.
She dragged the tip of her shoe and fell over it straight away, falling flat on her face because her arms didn't automatically swing out to catch her.
"Ouch..."
So, this is what it felt like not to have cat-like reflexes? Boy, it was really hard.
She staggered up again, limping towards the fake house's front door and pulling it open like a civilised person.
"Momo?!" She called out loudly, "Creati?!"
No response.
She hobbled on, falling down the three porch steps because she suddenly had no depth perception and ended up on the floor again.
"This is bullshit!" She swung her arms and legs around furiously, like an angry toddler, "Eraserhead, kiss my—WAH!"
Suddenly something wrapped itself around her, pulling her tightly and securing her legs and arms together. Next thing she knew, she was being hoisted into the air.
From the observation room, Bakugo smacked his forehead against the metal railing in front of them, "She's such a fucking idiot!"
"I can't believe how much she's struggling without her quirk," Uraraka commented.
Midoriya nodded in agreement, "She can't even move without it."
They all watched as Sunny was slung over a telephone wire, still flailing and screaming in what seemed to be a variety of languages.
"Why did they pair her with Mr Aizawa anyway?" Midoriya continued, turning towards Recovery Girl who stood just off to the side, watching also. The older woman had already explained the thoughts behind most of the pairings, but Sugawara and Aizawa? They both knew each other on a personal level, that could almost be an unfair advantage for Sunny. Plus, their fighting styles were so similar. "Aren't they close?"
"Exactly," Bakugo's voice filled the place of Recovery Girl opening her mouth, and Midoriya turned to the blond with large, questioning eyes. Katsuki's gaze was still fixated to the screen, despite the fact it had switched to Yaoyorozu running about now, "she's fucking soft on him. And their fighting styles are too similar, it's not a case of fire and ice, this is fire and fire. She's a fucking moron and doesn't realise you can't just keep adding more fire."
Midoriya's eyes went impossibly wide, "She needs to change her tactic."
"Yeah, and she won't. Because she's an idiot."
"Sunny!"
Sunny tried to spin around upon hearing her friend's voice, "Momo!" She wiggled, "Go, leave without me! You can still make it to the exit!"
Yaoyorozu stared in disbelief, "You were just shouting my name!"
"I know! Sorry, I got confused." She wailed, "I'm stuck!"
"You have claws, Suga!"
Sunny paused, "Oh," In one, swift movement, she unsheathed her claws and ripped open Aizawa's scarf. She fell like a dead weight, making Momo shriek and dart forward but Sunny twisted before she hit the ground, landing gracefully on her feet with a spring of her knees, "right! That was fun!" She grinned hands on hips.
But Momo already had other objectives. She was looking around them, "He's not using his quirk," She muttered.
"What?"
"If he was, you would have landed on your head."
"Oh."
Momo turned back to Sunny, fingers under her chin in thought and she peered down at her, "So, what's the plan?"
Sunny gawked at her, "It's your turn for a plan! Mine didn't work out!" She huffed, folding her arms over her chest, "Clearly, you're much better with this than me, I'm following you from now on."
"W-What?"
"You've got an idea, right?" Sunny peered over at Momo, "You always have a plan, you're the smartest person I know!" She then reached up and grabbed the ravenette by the shoulders, shaking her harshly, "Think!"
Pop, pop, pop.
Sunny's eyes scanned the rooftops around her, crouched low but keeping pace with Yaoyorozu on the floor.
Pop, pop, pop.
She was purring softly, not enough to be heard and distracting for Momo, who had a pair of newly created earplugs hanging around her neck. But it was too soon to wear them just yet, otherwise, she wouldn't be able to hear Sunny if she needed her.
Pop, pop, pop.
The only sound was that of Momo'a quirk. Cute little Russian dolls springing from her body and leaving a trail behind her.
Their plan was set in motion, all they needed was the last piece.
Sunny paused, it was quiet. Both she and Momo made eye contact for a split second before Sunny was springing into action. She darted, moving low and quickly, she was still purring, which meant either that Aizawa was concentrating specifically on Yaoyorozu or he hadn't seen her yet.
Momo was on the ground, putting her part of the plan into motion. She created a contraption Sunny had never seen before, looking like a big spoon on a springboard.
"Now, Sunny!"
Sunny immediately upped her purring. Momo must have spotted Aizawa before she had, but he came swinging into view within moments, just as her purr shot through the street they had been trotting down.
It all happened so quickly after that, Sunny had almost forgotten who exhilarating it felt to be on top of the world like that.
Eraserhead turned just as Sunny came towards him, claws out in a pounce when his eyes locked with hers. And just as quickly as the excitement came, it evaporated. Dread filled her without warning, and she retracted her claws immediately with a sharp intake of air, pupils blowing wide. She dodged him, shooting off to the side to avoid any further contact. She bobbed around him instead, still purring to keep him tame, but suddenly she had the overwhelming urge to cry.
She didn't want to hurt him.
She had come so close to it, too. She could have hurt him.
"Stay focused!" Momo yelled, "This is just an exam!"
Right.
"Whatever happens out there, just do your best."
She could do that, she could make Aizawa proud, even more proud than he already was.
Sunny watched Eraserhead struggle with his footing, eyes barely focusing. Her purr brought them enough time for Momo to finish her plan, swinging her contraction into motion. Aizawa must have clocked onto what was happening because he turned back to Yaoyorozu.
Sunny missed Momo's stumble with the leaver, she had already ricocheted off to the side to avoid being caught in the other girl's creation too. The whole point of this plan was to overwhelm Aizawa, keep him spinning and guessing as to who was going to land the attack. They needed to buy time, that was the key, time between Aizawa activating his quirk or getting to them first.
The sling broke, sending Momo's version of Eraserhead's scarf flying through the air. Aizawa couldn't dodge fast enough with Sunny's purr making him sluggish, and the creation snapped around his body.
"I can't believe we pulled that off," Momo breathed as they exited the exam grounds, she looked a little wide-eyed and dazed, and she ignored Sunny as the small girl bounded around her.
"We?!" Sunny positively shrieked, making Momo wince, "You did that! I couldn't have done anything without you! Hell, I would have just been hanging about still!" She grinned brightly, bouncing up to Momo and pulling her in a hug, "Thank you!"
"You're welcome," Momo patted at Sunny's back nervously, although she was gone as quickly as she came, bouncing up and down again, hopping in circles around the ravenette.
Earplugs. That's what Momo had used. Ear plugs and a decoy. It was awesome.
"Oh, man, you should have seen yourself!" She continued to gush, "You're so clever! I wish I was as much as a quick thinker as you!"
Momo was blushing, "Well, I didn't really-"
"-And you made that-that thingy!" Sunny mimicked the catapult-like contraption Momo had made for them, "That's amazing!" Sunny was right up in Momo's face then, "You're amazing!"
"I-" Yaoyorozu began, but she was cut off when Bakugo came stomping into view towards them.
"Oi!" He shouted, gesturing at Sunny who immediately span towards him. She grinned brightly and bounded his way.
"Did you see us, Suki?" She gushed some more, "Did you see Momo? Did you see how good she was-"
"Yeah, I fucking saw, saw you swinging around like an old man's ballsack, being useless as fuck."
Sunny stopped dead in her tracks and pouted, but Bakugo closed the distance between them and flicked her on the forehead. He then grabbed her jaw between his finger and thumb and tilted her head to plant a quick, chaste kiss on her lips.
"Well done for passing though," He muttered so only the pair of them could hear, "I'm proud of you."
Sunny's pout split into a shit-eating grin, and she swung her arms around his neck so suddenly he nearly toppled backwards when her feet left the ground, "Do I get to have a dessert after my dinner later? Because I've been so good." She bit his cheek in excitement.
Bakugo rolled his eyes but scooped his arms under her legs to hoist her up.
"You two seem close," Momo commented, slowly edging closer. She peered at Sunny knowingly. "I hope you're being safe." She added pointedly.
Both Sunny and Katsuki gagged loudly in unison.
"Well, I did walk in on him in the bathroom yesterday," Sunny grinned.
"You didn't walk in on me, you fucking fleabag. You picked the lock and stood in the doorway before walking off!"
"I don't like shut doors!"
"I was having a piss, Sugawara!"
Momo's face paled, "Forget I said anything," She grumbled, sidestepping the pair who were now hissing at each other.
That was until a buzzer in the distance went off.
"Is it your go?" Sunny asked.
Bakugo clicked his teeth, "Yeah."
Reaching down, Sunny placed a lingering kiss on the blonds lips, "Good luck, not that you'll need it, obviously.
"Tsk, obviously."
