It required complete concentration any hesitation could cost you, so you had be a finesse with your choice and acute with your thoughts. Bishop's eyes carefully studied you, trying to see any sort of cracks upon your emotionless face. There was none, he smirked quietly with pride. Of course he would, you'd nearly perfected illegible expressions. Splinter was your first teacher, then April, and lastly Bishop. Who nearly drilled it in you, it was imperative you master. And this right here what you were doing, with what you where holding fanned in your hand; five of them the same small rectangle size with different numbers and symbols of four, you would get this.
You had too!
Steady eyes you whip them up to Bishop's for a moment then back to what you held, a smile was itching to crack through, but you resisted. That would give you away. Debating which one of the five rectangles you'd choose for this next turn, decide.
"I've chosen," you clear your voice, "and...do you have a king?"
Bishop glanced at his cards, "No. Go fish."
No!
Not again, defeated you draw a card and to your dismay, it was not a match. Which was what you needed to catch up with Bishop, who had six pairs already to your three. Nevertheless, you were determined to win.
"Do you have a 2?" He asked.
You did and stubbornly hand it over, grimily watching his collect grow. Playing games like this wasn't something you hadn't tho if the Bishop knew but was surprised when he did, then again he has been living for an extended period. So he was bound to pick it up. Still, you amazed and pleased he played games, something you grew to enjoy. Playing with the others, it was one of the first things you where taught, Kirby taught and since then it held a special place within you. Filling you elated warmth as it did now, you couldn't help to smile. It spread across your lips no matter how hard you tried to hide it behind your cards.
Bishop saw it and smiled to himself. He was glad things were now better, just a few months ago you didn't want anything to do with him until you came wanting to understand your powers a little better and your history. It was to be strictly informative and nothing else, he understood and was just glad you came. He gave you what was asked all the information you needed and the understanding, he watched you grow and cultivate the power and abilities to your liking. You frighten at first he saw it, what you began to do, but you pushed through. Both stubbornly and determinately, eventually get it down and making some of it second nature.
All throughout Bishop, on the side, watched with proud silence at your excelling. His own creation growing, what more could a father want? At that moment affection from you, that came later and it was simply through a game of cards. Like this.
"Twos? Do you have any twos?" You asked drawing him back.
He looked at his cards and gave it to you. The triumphant smile you produced melted his Utrom heart. How he longed he waited to see and experience that from you, of course, you've done it many times before this, during your training every time you nailed something down. He remembered the first time you did it, the room lite up and he felt himself ten times taller than any human man. And when you actually for the first time smiled, smiled at him the world brighten beyond any sun. From that smile, you gave him that no longer held anger or malic or any negative emotion he could think of, it was one any father wanted from their child. After many years he finally had it and treasured it beyond anything. Even now, though your appearance was a tad older from what happened, your smile hadn't changed.
"Father! Father!" you call, waving a hand before him getting his attention from where ever his thoughts drifted off to, "Are you alright?"
He took a moment before responding, "Yes. Is it my turn?"
You open to say something when suddenly feel a...unfamiliar shift..no rift..no something you couldn't fully explain except it was foreign yet familiar. Distantly. Enter the nexus. Closing your eyes for a moment see the void and within seconds small lights of assorted colors appeared like millions of stars some scattered across vastly, others clustered together. Those familiar to you, bring them close. Red, blue, purple, orange, the guys, there was nothing out of place you could see or sense. Not even with April's or Karai's, with anyone's you knew. Still staying in the area leave them be, notice a small crack in the nexus. Bring it over, curious as to how this happened reach a finger out and softly touch. Become blinded by a flash of light.
"Auora! Aurora!" Bishop called shaking you lightly, holding you in his arms worriedly. There came no response from you, he wasn't sure why you suddenly passed out after you entered the nexus. That only happened a few times with you when you first tried it, now it was second nature to you. So for it to suddenly happen..."Aurora!"
This time it worked, your eyes slowly open and you returned. A relief for Bishop. "My head.."you wince a little sitting up slowly with Bishop's help. Lightly you touch your forehead wince again, the pain was sharp but it faded. Thankfully.
"Are you alright? What happened?" Bishop asked helping you stand, looking you over carefully. For any sign of discomfort, you might try to conceal. But he saw none.
You took a moment to respond, trying to gather your words and what you saw or...felt to make sense. "...Yes. I-I'm alright," you said, though your tone contradicted the uncertain look you wore. "Actually no. I believe I am not. Something...something has seemed to enter. What it is...I am not fully sure what it could be. Though its auras read similar to a degree. I...I am not quite sure what to make of this, father."
He could see it written on your face, as your thoughts searched for some form of explanation that might explain this. Though you couldn't produce one. No matter how many times you factor things in and out and crunched the numbers. The data and probability didn't even match up. You even included the probability it might be Renet, but it wasn't her.
Frustrated, you knew the way you could get to the bottom of this. Looking at the unfinished game of Go Fish, your heart fell, not from the fact you losing but because-
Bishop placed a hand on your shoulder, you look at him, he smiled understanding. You give a thankful one back with an apologetic look. "We shall finish when you return." he tells you warmly,
"Thank you," you hug him, he returns the embrace tenfold.
"Be safe."
"I will," you assure him breaking the hug and leave. As Bishop watches proudly.
