AN - A few of you have commented on Kol's use of 'STBSIL' to refer to Caroline. In my head, I'm pronouncing it 'stibcil.' Just thought it might make the flow of it easier to read. Enjoy!

Chapter 32

The sun was just beginning to set when Kol sped into the sitting room where the rest of his family was relaxing with Caroline and Bonnie. Klaus and Caroline were sitting together with Bonnie on one couch; Klaus had his sketch pad propped up on one leg with his left arm stretched out across the back of the couch towards Caroline. He was playing with the end of some of her curls while she was looking through one of the grimoires with Bonnie. Elijah and Rebekah were on the opposite couch in the same positions as earlier in the afternoon.

"You snapped my neck!" Kol accused Klaus as he entered the room.

Klaus didn't even look up from his drawing. "See, Love? I told you he would be fine before it was time for the seance."

"You knew?" Kol looked to Caroline.

Caroline responded to Klaus as she kept her eyes on the old book. "Yeah, yeah; you're the 'all knowing hybrid,' blah, blah."

"Hello?" Kol yelled, trying to get anyone's attention. "Elijah, aren't you going to lecture them for killing me?"

Elijah held up one finger for a second before turning the page in the book he was reading. He looked at Kol in surprise. "Why would I? You're alive."

"Elijah! I've been dead since we got back from Bonnie's house." Kol whined.

"Well, you're not right now." Elijah said simply, before going back to his book.

Kol turned to Bonnie, almost desperate. "Darling, surely you have something to say? You hate it when Niklaus is violent. You even told us we had to behave when we were at your house." His expression turned smug as he remembered that bit of information, positive that the little witch would stick it to his brother.

Bonnie looked up at him and blinked. "Oh hey, how was your nap?"

"My nap?!" Kol's jaw dropped.

"Yeah," Bonnie nodded, trying to stay serious. "Klaus said you were feeling a little cranky, so you probably needed the rest."

"I wasn't the cranky one! He was! He's the one that snapped my neck!" He emphasized the last three words, hoping to prove a point.

Rebekah sighed as she looked over the top of her phone at him. "Kol, you sound like one of the girls from the squad when Caroline told her that she couldn't be at the top of the pyramid. Maybe you should enroll in high school…"

Kol let out a huge huff before whooshing out of the room and up the stairs. Everyone finally looked up from what they were doing and smiled at each other.

"Is this what it feels like to be him when he purposely annoys one of us?" Elijah wondered aloud. "If it is, I can actually understand why he does it sometimes…"

They all started laughing, which only increased in volume when they heard Kol shout down the stairs "I can hear you, you know!"

Rebekah spoke in a normal voice. "That's kind of the point."

They all heard Kol's bedroom door slam.

"Well, that was fun." Caroline smiled before looking back to the book in her lap.

"We should do it more often." Rebekah agreed.

"Maybe we should wait until after the seance to do it again." Bonnie added thoughtfully. "I do actually kind of need his help for that."

They all nodded in agreement.

Kol finally reappeared about an hour later. He walked into the room with his arms crossed over his chest with a sulky look on his face.

"Well, I'm here." He said as he plopped into an armchair. Klaus got up and fixed his little brother a drink. Kol nodded as he accepted the glass. "That's more like it."

"Don't push it." Klaus muttered, "Bonnie requested that we try to be nice to you so that you would help with the seance."

That caused Kol to perk up. "You did, Darling? I knew you liked me." Bonnie rolled her eyes, but everyone was very aware of the fact that she didn't contradict him. This fact only seemed to cheer Kol up even more. "So let's get this little ghost radio show on the road! I'll fetch the candles." With that he practically skipped out of the room.

"Good going, Bon," Rebekah glowered at her. "Now his ego is almost as big as Nik's."

"I don't have a big ego." Klaus' head shot up as he glared at his sister.

"Uhh… Yeah, ya do." Caroline rolled her eyes at him.

He leaned into her so he could whisper in her ear low enough that none of the others could hear. "You, of all people, should know that my ego is big for a reason…"

Caroline blushed, but stayed silent.

"I'm back!" Kol said as he came back into the room, setting the candles down on the coffee table in front of Bonnie. He sat on the floor and patted the spot next to him, looking at her expectantly. She joined him and motioned for Caroline to follow. Caroline and Rebekah both moved onto the floor.

"Alright, Darling, go on and light the candles." Kol instructed after he arranged them into a circle on the table.

Bonnie muttered under her breath as she focused on the candles and they all lit instantly.

"Don't we have to turn the lights off?" Caroline asked. "That's what we did the first time when we contacted Emily."

Kol rolled his eyes at her. "Been watching a lot of scary movies lately, STBSIL?"

"No." Caroline shot back.

Bonnie smiled at her, "Just Ghost Adventures and Dead Files, right?"

"Those are legitimate paranormal experiments!" Caroline defended.

"Ladies," Kol said stiffly, doing a very good impression of Elijah. He pretended to fix his invisible shirt cuffs and collar. "We have serious business to attend to."

All three girls chuckled and even Klaus smirked, eyeing his older brother who merely rolled his eyes.

"Now," Kol said in his normal voice. "Place your grandmother's watch in the center of the circle of candles." Bonnie did so as Kol continued. "We all have to join hands." He extended hit to Bonnie and Rebekah. The rest of them took each others' hands as Klaus moved to the floor with the others. Elijah grimaced as he lowered himself to the ground and took his sister's hand.

Kol nodded as he looked around to make sure they were all holding hands, but rolled his eyes at Elijah's face. "Your suit will be fine, Elijah. Grow up."

Everyone smiled slightly at the role reversal.

"We need to keep holding hands until the seance is complete. If we break the circle, we will lose the connection with Sheila." They all nodded as he explained. Kol turned to focus on Bonnie again. "You are the one that has to reach out to her. It will help if you think of a positive memory that the two of you had together. You can also use my energy to make the link to the Other Side stronger."

Bonnie took a deep breath as she closed her eyes.

"Wait!" Caroline blurted out, her eyes worriedly trained on her friend. "The last time we did this, Emily was able to possess Bonnie. I know Grams wouldn't ever do that, but what if something else comes through and uses her?"

Kol shook his head. "It doesn't work that way, STBSIL. Bonnie has to accept the connection to whoever she is reaching out to. Emily must have taken advantage of the fact that she was a new witch and didn't have much experience. The most Sheila will do is use Bonnie as a conduit to talk through. We'll be able to ask Sheila's spirit questions directly; Bonnie will be conscious for all of it, and she can even ask questions too. It sounds odd, I know." He looked back to Bonnie, "Are you ready, Darling?"

She nodded and closed her eyes again.

"Focus on your positive memory and call out to her using her full name." Kol instructed softly.

Bonnie took a deep breath, "Sheila Bennett. I call to you to speak with us. I need your help. We need your help." The room was silent as everyone waited for something to happen. "Please, Grams. I need you." Bonnie whispered.

Bonnie's eyes immediately snapped open. "Oh dear child, what have you gotten yourself into now?" Sheila Bennett's voice came out of Bonnie's mouth.

"Grams? Are you alright?" Bonnie asked. Caroline had to admit that it was really strange to see Bonnie ask 'herself' a question.

"Yes, Bonnie, I'm fine. It's you that I'm worried about." Sheila's voice spoke. "What did I tell you about getting involved in vampires' problems?"

Caroline squirmed in her spot on the floor slightly; Grams wasn't alive when she had turned into a vampire. "No, Caroline, not you, sweet girl. You've been Bonnie's friend since the cradle; you two will always stick together through everything." Grams smiled over at her, which made Caroline's heart fill with emotion. Sheila had always called her 'sweet girl.' It was nice to know that she wasn't upset with her; that Sheila didn't reject her.

Sheila's voice continued. "I'm talking about getting involved with this family, Bonnie. What are you thinking?"

Bonnie looked down before looking around at the Mikaelsons. "They're my friends too, Grams. They've been helping me and Caroline a lot lately. Elijah has been nothing but respectful to us; and Klaus has been surprisingly great with… everything. He and Caroline are so right together. Rebekah has become one of our best friends, and Kol has been helping me with my magic, Grams… like you were before you - before everything. I… I trust them."

They all sat in silence as they waited for Sheila to respond.

"Grams?" Bonnie asked, her voice cracking. "Are you still there?"

"I'm here, my girl." Sheila's voice spoke. "What do you need my help with?"

Bonnie breathed a small sigh of relief. "Their brother, Grams, Henrik. He was killed by werewolves back when he was just a little kid. He was a practicing witch at that time; he had been practicing for about four years before he died. The Originals have contacted witches on the other side before to try to find out if he was there, but no one could find him. We recently had an encounter with Ester, the Original Witch, and she said something that made us think that Henrik was there, but hidden. Would you maybe know anything about him?"

"I've heard the stories about the Original family before." Sheila's voice came through Bonnie. "You wouldn't believe how many folks over here love to gossip about you all. I know of Ester, and even a few stories of Henrik."

"Do you think it's possible that Ester pulled him to the Other Side when she died?" Rebekah blurted out.

Bonnie looked over at Rebekah with a thoughtful expression, one that Caroline had seen on Miss Sheila's face dozens of times growing up. "Your mother was a very powerful witch." Grams said. "I've never heard of anything like that before, but if anyone was capable of that kind of magic, it would have been her. You all think that she is hiding him here somehow?"

They all nodded, and Elijah answered. "We do Ms. Bennett. When our mother recently died again, she said something about seeing Henrik on the Other Side. We think that she is keeping him hidden and has been doing so over the centuries so that whenever we have been in contact with a witch on the Other Side, they are unable to locate him."

Bonnie's head nodded, as Sheila's voice spoke. "There are ways of concealing things here. I suppose you all would like me to look into it for you?"

"If you'd be willing to, we'd very much appreciate it." Rebekah spoke, her eyes trained on Bonnie. "Henrik was just a little boy. He shouldn't be suffering under our mother and father any longer. Whatever you can do, Miss Sheila, we would be forever in your debt."

Bonnie stared at Rebekah for a long moment. "You speak truly and from your heart, young lady." Sheila said. "I'll gather my ancestors and see what we can find. Ayanna knew Ester quite well, she may know a trick or two. Give me a week; contact me again in seven days."

Klaus spoke for the first time. "Thank you." His voice was thick with emotion. "Henrik was better than all of us combined. As my sister said, we are forever in your debt, Ms. Bennett." Caroline squeezed his hand, trying to offer any form of comfort to him that she could.

Bonnie nodded before flicking her eyes to Caroline and back to him. "You be good to my sweet girl; if I hear one word against you, it won't be pretty. And keep in mind, I hear everything over here." She eyed him shrewdly before addressing Caroline. "Keep him in line, Caroline. You've been doing well so far with him."

Kol laughed at that, but quickly stopped when Bonnie turned her stare on him. "And you, keep your hands off my granddaughter. As for her magical training, if you ever let her go near anything involving dark magic you'll wish you were daggered and in a coffin."

Kol nodded seriously. "I promise, ma'am." He hesitated before adding. "Also, I'm a really big fan of yours. You're everything the modern witches talk about these days. I would love to be able to sit down and have a chat with you sometime about all of the things you were able to -"

"Kol!" Elijah scolded.

Kol looked torn. "Right, sorry. One thing at a time. Thank you for being willing to help my family."

Bonnie nodded. "We'll talk in a week."

Bonnie's eyes closed, but her lips kept moving every so often as if she was mouthing different words.

Suddenly Bonnie was standing in the Mikaelson living room watching herself sitting in a circle with the others. She looked around in confusion and saw her Grams standing to her right.

"Grams!" She rushed forward, enveloping the older woman in a hug. "How are we doing this?"

"I wanted to have a second to speak with only you." Sheila pulled back, smiling.

"Are you upset with me for getting mixed up in vampire business?" Bonnie asked, looking slightly guilty.

"Dear girl," Sheila said, taking Bonnie's hands in hers. "I could never be upset with you. You are becoming such a good person and witch. I'm proud of all that you are. You've done right by cutting ties with the elder Salvatore; he's trouble. Them, however," Sheila's eyes moved to the Mikaelsons who were all looking at the Bonnie that was sitting in the circle in concern, but still kept their hands joined. "They seem to be changing. I've seen some of what they were capable of while I've been over here, and it wasn't good. Yet the people I just spoke with in that circle hardly seem like those that I've been seeing snippets of over the past year. I believe that you and Caroline are partly responsible for that. As much as the thought of you two getting tangled up with them sets my teeth on edge, I can also recognize that you're good for them. And I have an inkling that they might just be good for you two too." Her eyes lingered on Klaus and then Kol.

"Thank you, Grams." Bonnie said sincerely. "I thought I saw something in them when Caroline and I came here for the truce and that feeling has just increased in the past month. But hearing you confirm it means everything to me. God, I miss you so much."

"I'm still with you everyday, Bonnie." Sheila said, squeezing their joined hands. "I'm guiding you and helping you through as best I can from over here."

"Yeah," Bonnie muttered, her eyes darting to Kol quickly. "Someone recently said that same thing to me." She cleared her throat. "Do you really think you might be able to find their brother? Is it even possible to bring him back if you do?"

Sheila sighed. "I'm going to try my hardest, my dear. And if I find him and he truly did pass before his time, there is a chance that you will be able to bring him back to them. That chance only gets better if he was never meant to be here, on the Other Side."

"Thank you, Grams. Just thank you." Bonnie whispered, pulling her grandma in for another hug. "I love you."

"I love you too, Bonnie." Sheila spoke softly. "It's time for you to go back now."

Bonnie's eyes snapped open, and she was sitting on the floor in the circle with everyone else. Kol's hand was squeezing hers repeatedly as he called her name. Caroline was using their joined hands to jostle her shoulder in an effort to get her to wake up.

"I'm okay; everything is fine." Bonnie spoke.

"What was that? Were you still in the trance thing?" Caroline asked, worry filling her eyes.

"I was talking with Grams. She wanted to have a few moments just with me." Bonnie smiled slightly.

"Are we okay to stop holding hands now?" Rebekah asked. "Kol wouldn't let us let go just in case it hurt you or your grams."

"Yes." Bonnie nodded. "Everything is fine now."

Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief as they released each others' hands.

Caroline immediately pulled Bonnie into a hug. "Don't you dare scare me like that ever again, Bonnie Bennett!"

"Too tight, Care." Bonnie gasped out.

"Oh, sorry." Caroline loosened her arms sheepishly, but didn't release her friend. "Are you really okay?" She whispered.

"Yeah." Bonnie nodded against her friend's shoulder. "I really am." She pulled back and looked at the Original siblings. "Grams said that if she can find Henrik and he passed away before it was his time, there's a definite possibility of me being able to bring him back to you guys. She said that chance only increases if Ester really did pull him to the Other Side and he wasn't meant to be there."

Rebekah launched herself at the young witch. "Thank you." She said, tears streaming down her face. "Just the idea of seeing Henrik again is the best thing I've heard in a very long time."

"I promise, Bekah." Bonnie said rubbing the Original's back. "If there's a way to bring him back to you guys, I'm going to make it happen."

Caroline looked over at Klaus, who had been strangely quiet during most of the seance. She tilted her head at him and he stood up, extending his hand to her. She looked to Bonnie quickly, who nodded. She took Klaus' hand and let him lead her out into the gardens.

"Are you okay?" She asked him as they walked along a lit up path.

"Honestly?" He sighed. "I don't know. I mean, what if he hates me, Caroline?"

"Henrik?" She asked in confusion. At his look of guilt, she stopped walking and turned to face him. "I thought we talked about this, Nik. What happened with the wolves is in no way, shape or form your fault. It was a horrible, tragic accident that you couldn't have stopped. You told me yourself that you tried to catch him and fight off the wolves, but it was too late. It's not as though you sat back and did nothing. You do not need to feel guilty for this. You told me that Henrik and I were really similar; I would never blame you for something like that, Nik, and from everything that I've heard about that little boy, he won't either."

Klaus nodded as he, once again, saw the truth in her eyes. "I know, Love. I'm trying to remember that, I really am. It's just hard to do after constantly thinking the opposite for over a thousand years."

"Yeah, well, you didn't have me for over a thousand years." Caroline said firmly. "What happened to Henrik was not your fault. We're going to get him back, and he's going to tell you that himself."

He pulled her to him in a crushing hug. "What did I ever do to deserve you?" He murmured into her hair.

"Just lucky, I guess." She replied. "Do you want me to write you little messages about how you are a good person and that Henrik's situation wasn't your fault? Because I can; I'll do that. For you." She tilted her head up to smile at him.

He chuckled softly. "No, Love. I'm going to keep your words in mind and look forward to seeing my youngest brother again."
