"I hope it fits because at this point, I'm going to put on a t-shirt and call it a day." Mercedes mumbled as she felt the zipper go up, sighing in relief as Sam came from behind her, "Thank you."
"You look absolutely beautiful, even with you wearing sweats for the bottom."
"Thank you baby." Mercedes smiled as she leaned forward and kissed him, "I figured I'd at least look half way decent just to sit in the living room."
Sam chuckled once she turned around, sitting down on the edge of their bed as he watched her slide into her slippers.
Mercedes took a deep breath as she turned back around, walking over to him and wrapping her arms around his neck as she looked down, "Maybe this is a perfect time to tell you."
"Let me guess." A smile started to form on his lips, raising a brow, "You're pregnant."
Mercedes stared at him for a minute, face without any expression, curious, "What makes you say that?"
"You've been moody, extra hot at night, your beautiful face is puffier and you've been eating more than usual. Plus, you've never struggled so hard to get into clothes." He smirked when her expression changed in the slightest way that nobody else would've noticed. Her lips twitched just a smidge, indicating that he was right, "I truly know you so."
Mercedes pursed her lips as she moved her arms from around him, seeing that look on his face, "You're such a smug as..."
Sam silenced her with a smoldering kiss that screamed happiness once he stood up, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her closer to him.
"Why didn't you say anything earlier?" Mercedes asked once they pulled away from each other's mouths, smiling up at him as she stayed in his arms.
"Honestly, I didn't want to be wrong and end up sleeping on the couch."
"Oh wow, sometimes I hate when you're honest."
Sam smiled as a laugh left his mouth, swaying them from side to side to the non-existent music, "I know it's sooner than we planned, but I'm truly thrilled."
"I am too." She couldn't do anything but smile as she leaned up and kissed him, jokingly speaking, "To be completely honest, your aim deserves an award."
"You make it easy." He waggled his brows before laying his forehead against hers, "This is making me think about our very first dance."
"When you came back." Mercedes hummed out as she kept her arms locked around his neck, the memory of that night coming to her mind, "That was the night I truly wanted to risk it all. You were looking mighty good, Commander Evans."
Sam chuckled as pulled her closer, kissing the side of her neck, "And you, you were looking really, really sexy. Green on you just does something to me."
"You're going to make me late for my interview." She whispered as she tried pull away from him, whining when he wouldn't let go, "Come on, Sam. Cooperate for once, please."
"Fine." He mumbled as he reluctantly her go, watching as she grabbed her water with a smirk, sending his a wink before heading out the room. She loved teasing him at the wrong times. Hearing crying coming from the baby monitor, he too exited out of the room and headed across the hall, finding their son standing up, the crying coming to a halt as Sam made his way over to him, "What's wrong man?" He watched as he lifted his arms, prompting him to pick him up, smiling when he smiled. He kissed his forehead before heading out the nursery and downstairs to the kitchen, hearing a the bit of Mercedes' interview.
"How is quarantine going?"
"Quarantine is actually not that bad for me. Having two kids definitely keeps me going, especially with the two different ages, ten and ten months. We've been doing a lot of activities together and then we have our days where we just chill out, eat junk food and watch movies all day." Mercedes giggled as she looked at her, "And honestly, I'm truly learning more and more about everyone under my roof. Just when I thought I knew everything, I'm shocked to find out new things."
"Trust me, I've learned so much more about my husband too, it's unbelievable." The woman laughed, "Congratulations on your engagement. Tell us, did you have any plans for a wedding?"
"Sam and I definitely had plans to have an intimate wedding ceremony this year." Mercedes revealed with a smile and shrugged, "But COVID-19 had other plans and although it sucks, we're just extremely grateful that our kids, ourselves and both of our families are safe and healthy."
"Any tips on mental health during this time?"
"We're going through a really difficult transition and it's tough. Just know that you're not alone. Reach out to someone and if you can't with anyone around you, call the hotlines. Understand you do have options and not the one that results you into feeling like you have to end your precious life."
"Mercedes, thank you for taking time to talk to with me. It's always a pleasure and honor. I pray that you and your family continue to stay safe and healthy."
"Same to you, be well." She smiled before handing up the call, leaning back in the chair as she let out a deep breath, snorting when she heard her stomach growling.
Ishmael came into the room once she got finished, "Pops want to know what's for dinner tonight."
"Tell him whatever he makes because he's cooking."
Ishmael laughed before making his way over to her, wrapping his arms around her neck and laying his head on her shoulder, "I love you, Mom."
"I love you too, baby." She turned her head to look at him with a smile, pressing a kiss to his cheek as she rubbed his shoulder. The conversation about his birth mom did come back up in the future but Ishmael kept it it even shorter than he did years prior. He had no hatred, but it was hard to love someone who wasn't here and didn't stay here when she had a choice. His Dad didn't have that choice. He was fine with who he have and that was someone who loved him unconditionally, and didn't question taking on the responsibility of taking care of him. Why would anyone other than that deserve the privilege of being called his mother?
Mercedes sipped the lemonade from the straw as she on the couch in the family room, placing her hand on her stomach as the silence surrounded her. This time of day was her best time to think because both of her boys were down for their nap, and Sam was usually busy with work but today he was done early. She came out of her thoughts when she saw him coming in from taking a shower, the smell of the soap lingering once he sat beside her, prompting her to move closer to him, "That soap just smells so good. Best purchase ever."
Sam chuckled once she sniffed him, comically shaking his head, "This should be weird but for some reason, it's not."
Mercedes snorted as she sat her glass down on the table, "True love baby, true love."
Sam leaned over and kissed her gently, mumbling against her lips, "I know I say this almost every day, but I don't care, I'm so happy you're in my life."
Mercedes smiled at him as she rubbed his cheek, kissing him softy, "I'll never get tired of hearing it because I feel the same way."
Sam sighed in absolute content, "Soon you won't be outnumbered by the boys."
"You think it's a girl?"
"Most definitely." He responded with a smile as he placed his hand on her stomach as well, "I just have a feeling."
Mercedes smiled back at him before putting her head down on his shoulder, reaching to grab ahold of his free hand, "I love you so much."
"I love you even more."
"Can we join?"
Sam and Mercedes both smiled when they saw Ishmael coming in with Miles in his arms.
They broke apart and moved so Ishmael could sit in the middle, Miles moving instantly to Sam's arms once his brother sat down.
Sam lifted his son in his arms, the man's heart absolutely shattering in complete joy. A little him. He would never, ever trade him nor this moment for anything. He then looked at Ishmael. He was his bonus son, and he made a promise to LJ everyday as he prayed that he would be the best stand in he could be. He was far from perfect, but he was going to make sure that he did his best. Finally, Mercedes. God, he loved that woman. He met her eyes and watched as she smiled at him. Yep, he most definitely won in the best possible way at life.
The future vows that were said and granted tears from everyone summed up the love story and happy ending they both deserved. Mercedes ended up becoming more than his wife. She was his best friend. His forever carrying his last name just like their son, and just like their future children would. Wow. A smile crept on his face as he just stared at her. A smile that became so much more than a facial expression, but something that was there for the best reasons. A smile that became permanent, and not temporary.
I never thought that we would end up here. I mean, when you came into my life, I couldn't stand you. I wanted you gone, but the second that you did leave, it felt like a part of my heart was missing. You're so hard and stubborn, but you're also the sweetest, most loving man I have ever met and an even better father. I'm so glad that you're not only in my life, but Miles and Ishmael's as well. I love you so much and I'm glad that I get to spend forever with you.
I was honestly done with love, wanted nothing to do with it. You changed that and you changed me for the better. You made me want to be better, you made me want to love again. I thank you for never giving up on me when I know I deserved it. Thank you for being there for me through my PTSD, which isn't a walk in the part by any means. Most importantly, thank you for loving me for me. You're the most amazing woman, friend, mother, and lover. I'm glad that I will be able to soon call you my life-partner, my wife. I love you.
