School started up a couple weeks ago and that's why I disappeared! I wrote this while procrastinating the shitton of homework I have. Ugh. Anyway, enjoy and let me know what you think!
"What does banal mean?"
"Like boring or bland."
"How do you know that?"
"Kelly told me."
"When? After you asked her to rate your make out session?"
Bobby came downstairs and heard the sound of something getting thrown followed by Sam crying out when it hit him.
"Dean stop throwing things at your brother," Bobby said, walking into the kitchen. He was surprised when he woke up this morning and Sam and Dean were already awake. The two were sitting at the table with books and papers everywhere. Dean was studying a calendar and Sam was obsessively scribbling in his notebook. "What do you two have planned for today?"
"Homework," Sam answered like usual.
"It's Saturday."
"Did you know that when you're out sick for a week everything happens? I have two essays, three tests, and ten pages of math."
"Sorry kid. I can call your teachers and see if we can get an extension."
"Dean already tried but it doesn't matter. The longer I wait, the farther behind I'll be anyway."
"So what are you doing?" Bobby asked, turning his attention to Dean.
"I'm trying to figure out when Sam's last menstrual cycle was."
Without any hesitation, Sam threw his calculator at Dean. Dean was smart enough to dodge it however.
"I was right! You are late!"
Sam bit his tongue to stop himself from saying the wrong thing in front of Bobby. Sam may have gotten very loose with his swear words lately but he wasn't about to say something in front of Bobby, even if Bobby didn't care. So instead he groaned dramatically and walked over to pick the calculator off the floor.
"How come you don't tell him to stop throwing shit at me?" Dean asked.
"Cause I know you threw it at him first."
"Hey Bobby, can I talk to you about something?" Dean asked suddenly, changing the tone in the room. Bobby looked at Sam.
"I know, I know, I'll go do my homework in our room," Sam said, already gathering some of his school supplies and leaving the room.
"Alright spill," Bobby said, sitting in the chair next to him.
"You were married once right?"
"Please tell me you are not thinking of marrying this Kelly girl."
"No I'm just trying to figure something out."
"Okay then. You already know the answer to that question kid, dontcha think?"
"Did you ever try to have kids?"
"Never got the chance. Why you askin so many questions?"
"I think Kelly lied to me. Something seems off here. It just feels like it all happened to fast."
"Ya know Dean this might be a good talk to have with your old man."
"Yeah cause that went so well the first time."
"He would be the one to know. He's on his way to town now passing through onto the next hunt."
"He is?"
"Yea he called me the other day after I got back."
"And you're just now telling us?"
"Didn't remember about it til now."
Dean rolled his eyes and went back to flipping through the calendar.
School started the last week of August. He didn't meet Kelly and start tutoring until the end of the first week of September. They went to the party around the end of September. That first week of October they went to the movies, which Kelly said she found out the was pregnant that same day. That already struck Dean as weird. Not that he had any personal knowledge, but that was only a few days. How could she have known that early? Then she got sick at the Halloween dance, which angered Dean because how dare she know a secret like that for almost a month and not tell him? And then when she swung by the house and finally told him on November 2nd of all days... And then around the second week of November was when Dean finally told Bobby and Dad and Kelly had an abortion.
So, what really happened?
Sam spread all his schoolwork across the floor. He finished one essay and half of his math and still had much left to do. He felt like his brain had given up and stopped working on him.
He decided to take a break and stare out the window for a few minutes. The sun hurt his eyes but it felt better than staring at the tiny font in his textbooks. Seriously, why so many tiny words on a page?
He took a deep breath and looked down. The boys' bedroom overlooked the front of the house and Sam could see the driveway from the window. He saw Kelly's car pull up and rolled his eyes. Dean went running out to greet her. Sam watched Kelly exit her car and open her arms to hug him and then saw Dean step back. Sam leaned against the window, heavily invested now. Whatever was about to go down was going to be good.
He watched Dean and Kelly stand outside talking for a few minutes. Sam gave anything to have super hearing or something so he could know what was happening.
They looked like they were fighting. Dean was throwing his hands around as he talked and Kelly was trying to get him to calm down. Something was eventually said that made the both of them stop. Dean walked back towards the house then turned around and shouted something back at her.
Kelly was crying. Dean was pissed.
Kelly got back in her car and drove off. Sam heard the front door slam shut as Dean came back in the house.
As he heard Dean running up the stairs, Sam threw himself on the floor where he was sitting and covered his lap with his homework.
"What's up?" he asked, trying to sound as casual as possible when Dean came into the room.
"Uh uh," Dean said, barely even able to get the sound out. Sam couldn't tell if he was just really angry or if he was trying not to break down in tears right there in front of him.
Dean grabbed his jacket from the closet and the car keys and ran back out of the room. Sam walked back over to the window and watched Dean get in the Impala and drive off.
"What the hell happened now?" Bobby asked, joining Sam at the window.
"I dunno."
