KIDS
Those people watched him from a distance and at first only seemed to trust him because his parents allowed him into the family. Freya would prepare the strawberries and Sid would talk colloquially with him and them. Then the atmosphere relaxed, when the children tired of being quiet began to play. Freya gave a bowl of strawberries to a not so young boy, his name was Guz, to take to Shadow and engage in some interaction-a child's tenderness touches everyone-she thought. Adults and teenagers sat around the table and tried to penetrate the silent seriousness of the guest. Guz arrived, left the bowl in a corner and shyly approached it to him. Until they looked at each other Shadow didn't know it was for him.-Hello.-he said to the child.-Hello.-he replied by retreating.-Eat.-Shadow requested him but the boy ran out and hugged his dad. His father was a wolf, his mother was a chicken and the boy was a little grey wolf.-I didn't mean to scare him, I'm sorry.-said Shadow. Sid replied-You're a new face, it's normal that he still doesn't trust you.-the boy pulled his face out of his father's torso and shouted-They're for you!-Then he hid his face again. He made his great-grandfather laugh. A very small girl who barely said a couple of words approached him because she wanted to eat from the bowl. She said to Shadow-Eat, eat.-looked at Sid as if he did not know what to do with the child.-You can give her a piece in her mouth to suck on.-he said-Don't worry, her mum will give her some.-You have to give her like this.-the little girl's older sister took a strawberry from the bowl and put it in her mouth. Then the mother gave the older child a bib to place on the younger one, she was carrying a baby in her arms, when she approached the children and Shadow the baby looked into Shadow's eyes and burst into tears. Shadow knew full well the fierce impression he was making on others.-I´m sorry, Shadow.-said the mom-He's just upset.-Another older boy jumped on the site and told Shadow:-He's my little brother, he's sick!-I see. I hope he gets better soon.-Yes, me too, because I don't want him to die like my other little brother.-said the child, the adults remained silent, the mother turned around and rocked the baby in her arms, the father stood up too and went to comfort her and the baby-That´s sad-answered Shadow-I also had a sister who died and I loved her very much. Her name was Maria.-Was she also sick?-Yes, but she didn't die from her illness, she died because some bad men sho... took her away.-And she never came back?-No.-said Shadow. The boy started jumping like a spring completely forgotten of the conversation and his irreverence reminded him of how Sonic took things.
Guz sat on one side of Shadow and on the other side was the older girl with her little sister in her arms feeding her. The two of them were drawing from his strawberries even though each had their own portion. Other children were playing around, running around, sneaking under the table and stomping on Shadow's feets. One leaned on his arm, another cut himself with his thorns and cried. The little baby that once cried was now clutching its mother's teat just a step away from falling asleep. The teenagers ended up gloating over the harsh and heroic image of the family's new friend, in part reminding them of their grandfather's undaunted temper.
When it was time to leave, and after several attempts to get the children off his back, Shadow spoke to Sid alone:-I plan to live in the village.-Are you serious? Excellent. People will be delighted. Choose the place you like best, you have the right. Maybe you prefer something more secluded.-I don't know yet.-Take a good look. The area is a paradise, anywhere is good.-Sid spoke to him about the best spots and terrains.-Look at the mounds where you can build.-Build?-A house, man.-A house?-said Shadow in awe.-I never had a house.-It's time, hedgehog. We put together a group of people in town and when you say we start the construction. Sonic and company can also help.-He asked him if he had a place to stay for the time being and Shadow, so as not to disturb him, said yes. He thought about it, a house in the village was a huge step and change in his reclusive life. He thanked him for opening the doors to his family and left.
The day was coming to an end. Shadow was wondering about his pup. He walked like everyone else, instead of sliding or teleporting, to Sonic's house.
