Here we go again.
Immediately she saw nothing. But then she saw something move down below and she saw him. He was here...
Smiling down at him she signalled that she would be just a minute, and he waved his hand with a flourish and bowed. She moved away from the curtain shook her head and giggled. That man really did make her so deliriously happy. Tying her robe securely she pulled back the curtains slightly and opened one of her double windows. Resting her arms on the windowsill, she leaned out and raised a suspicious eyebrow.
"But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?" Anthony exclaimed traumatically.
Edith let out a throaty chuckle and rolled her eyes. "And to what do I owe the pleasure?".
He let out a brief laugh before continuing his traumatic speech. "She speaks: O, speak again, bright angel! He paused.
Interrupting his dramatic intermission, "Are you quite finished? Only I fear that if you continue with your perfectly marvellous rendition of Act 2 Scene 2 of Romeos infamous balcony scene, you will not only have myself as your captive audience".
Letting out another small laugh, he rocked forward and backward on his feet before finally settling with his hands behind his back, and just like that his entire demeanour changed. Edith took a moment to really look at Anthony and then realised that he was still dressed in his tails from the previous evening. She was just about to question this when he managed to gather his thoughts and cleared his throat.
"Ermm I… I was umm … wondering. If we could perhaps talk for a moment", Anthony managed to put into words.
Looking around somewhat sarcastically and raising her eyebrows, "Are we not doing that right now".
"Aha, yes. How clever of you. No, I…ummm. Was wondering if we could talk... down here".
In that moment her heart dropped to her stomach. Her smile faltered and she started to grow worried. "Goodness I don't think I like the sound of that at all" she murmured to herself.
"Yes, alright. But you will have to wait a little bit I am afraid. I am not entirely sure if you are aware of this considering your attire but it is at best four o'clock in the morning and until fairly recently I was asleep. So you will have to bear with me whilst I dress". He just couldn't stay there, outside her window, he will be noticed she thought. With her heart beating loud enough for her to hear it ringing in her ears, she told him she would meet him at the Folly in 15 minutes.
Briefly nodding "Oh thank you. Thank you my sweet one, I shall make my way there now".
With her brow thoroughly creased she slowly backed away from the now closed window. But kept her gaze on the tall figure making his way across the long green. What on earth was that all about. Raising her right hand to her head and scrunching her hair, she twirled around and tried to think. Edith located some appropriate clothing and quickly dressed for her early morning discussion with her betrothed. Perching herself on the edge of her chair she sat at the dressing table and promptly arranged her hair in a manner that was more becoming that it had previously. Edith could feel her nerves getting the better of her and started to shake. She did not feel good at all. What on earth is this all about she thought. Stepping away from her dressing table, she put her coat on and glanced at her floor length mirror. Yes that will do I suppose, and now all I have to do is make my way outside without bumping into another soul.
Thankfully Edith was able to make her away across the gallery, descend the grand staircase and walk down the lobby undetected. As she stood outside the front door she took a moment to compose herself. She lowered her head, pulled the collar of her coat up, closed her eyes and took a long steady breathe. Trying her best to steady her nerves she opened her eyes and looked towards the folly. And there in the distance her Anthony was waiting for her. Taking another deep breathe she pushed off and started her journey. This was most definitely was not expected.
Sorry not sorry for yet again leaving you in suspense.
