Mrs. Kwalski was getting ready for the first day of school since the War for Earth. School had largely been canceled since the end of the war. What with summer vacation pretty much canceled by the massive alien invasion.
She was not looking forward to what she assumed were teenagers, specifically ones that we're going to complain endlessly about the upcoming school year and have issues that the previous autumn off didn't help them overcome.
The first bell rang, and to her surprise. Her students actually looked happy as they milled into her classroom. "Well... good morning everyone?" Mrs. Kwalski said, understandably confused.
Then one of her favorite students, Beatrice Flynn came up to her with an apple in hand. "Good morning Mrs. Kwalski." The robotic teenager placed the apple on Mrs. Kwalski's desk.
"Bea, why is everyone so... not mopey?" Mrs. Kwalski asked.
"I might have invited the class to a New Year's Eve party... and it might have been almost identical to the kind that my dad throws every year," Beatrice said cutely.
"Oh yeah, the one where the party is inside of a giant New Years' Eve ball... it's a pity that the alien invaders literally whipped New York City off the map during the invasion. Tearing down every building, filling in every hole in the ground they could find, " Mrs. Kwalski lamented. "I'm just glad to get back to steady work instead of doing every menial job in Danville after the war."
"Yeah... it was more than a little weird seeing you at Slushy Dawg," Beatrice said.
Mrs. Kwalski then noticed her newest students. One in particular caught her eye. "Uh... Beatrice, are you aware that-"
"Yes, that's my... twin brother Beauregard," Beatrice said quietly. "Look it's a long story about him. But I promise I'll tell you later."
"What?" Mrs. Kwalski asked. "Oh, I was actually talking about the girl with him."
"That's Persephone," Beatrice said. "Her family moved to Danville after the war... and she and Bo have been dating since at least October... and did so before Daniel and I went steady."
"Well, it's about time kiddo. I could tell that you had a crush on Daniel and Mathew for months." Mrs. Kwalski said.
"Excuse me?" Beatrice asked.
"Well... there's a betting pool going on in the teacher's lounge." Mrs. Kwalski explained. "Mainly things like students getting together."
Beatrice just looked bewildered by this explanation. "Of course there is."

"-Thankfully we had enough paper towels to clean up the mess." Persephone was telling everyone what she had done over the weekend over lunch. Everyone present, namely Beatrice and Daniel were disgusted with the story.
"I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a baby could hold that much vomit," Beauregard said. "I mean I was there, I scanned little Marco. There's no way he could eat that much in the first place."
"I think the takeaway should be that one should never feed a baby that much chocolate," Daniel said.
"I can attest to that... Bethany was quite the handful as a baby." Beatrice said in disgust. "Seriously, what were you two thinking giving sweats to a baby?"
"Honestly, we spent an entire day listening to that little meatbags-" Persephone elbowed Beurergard in the chest. "-the little guys shrieking that our judgment was clouded."
Beatrice stood up, followed by Daniel backing out in his wheelchair. "Nothing personal, but I lost my appetite from that long, meandering story," Daniel said as he and Beatrice left the table with their food behind.
"Someone was disgusted by that story, what were the chances?" Beauregard said.
"Yeah... you were right. Probably wouldn't have helped if I didn't go into detail about the following diaper change." Persephone then gave Beauregard a ten-dollar bill. "I'm just happy that you didn't say 'I told you so'."
"I'm still obligated and permitted to say it if the mood strikes me," Beauregard said with a playful smile on his face.
"Oh, Bo, you weirdo," Persephone said as she gave Beurergard a light peck on the cheek.
"Just be glad you didn't bet against Mathew, seriously no matter what bets you make with him. He somehow wins." Beauregard said. "Seriously, I've lost at least two-hundred and fifty bucks to him. Never make a bet with that guy ever."

At the end of the day, Beatrice and Daniel met up with Beauregard and Persephone. "You know, I forgot how exhausting school could be," Beatrice said as she stretched her limbs.
"So why do you guys come to school anyway?" Persephone asked.
"That was all Beatrice," Daniel spoke up. "For ten years she tried to get into-"
"You wanted to hang out with a bunch of teenagers?!" Persephone said in surprise.
"I've spent pretty much my whole life wanting to be Human, and live a relatively normal life," Beatrice said blankly.
"Wait... you mean to tell me you've been a teenager for ten years?" Persephone said in surprise.
"Yes, a design flaw that father only recently phased out after the War for Earth," Beauregard said. "And even that took a lot of poking and prodding, just to get him to consider letting us, age properly."
"You know, the more I learn about your dad... the less awesome he seems," Persephone said.
"Phineas Flynn is a great man," Beauregard said defensively. "But... at the end of the day he is just a man."
"Yeah," Beatrice agreed. "He isn't perfect, but he's done great things for everyone."
"I'm sorry, it's just that saying that out loud sounds incredibly obvious," Persephone said.
"We had a lot on our plate during that decade," Beatrice said. "Not the least of which being the Unification War and the aftermath... but I'm getting ahead of myself. The point is I didn't even think to ask about aging until around when I started coming to this school."

"So how was your first day back at school?" Isabella asked as her robot offspring returned home.
"It was pretty calm actually, nobody was hurt, nothing weird happened during science class. The only noteworthy thing was Persephone telling a gross story." Beatrice said.
"And your first day Bo?" Isabella asked.
"It went better than expected, I honestly thought that my senses were going to be under constant assault, and being badgered by the students," Beauregard said.
"And you complained all weekend about school being terrible," Isabella said.
"No, I was complaining about helping Persephone babysitting her youngest brother," Beauregard said. "I did voice my complaints and concerns about attending High School... but that was nothing compared to-"
"Lalalala! I don't want to hear about it again!" Beatrice said as she plugged her ears and ran downstairs.
