Hailey swung her legs back and forth out of pure boredom, waiting for Charles and Ellie.
Hailey was wearing a white and gold striped coat with snowflake patterns. She wore matching white leggings and tall light brown boots. She let her light brown hair fall on her shoulders.
"Hailey!" She heard her boyfriend's voice.
"Hi Charles!" Hailey piped up and waved to Charles and Ellie. "Hi Ellie! What took you guys so long?"
"Our train was late." Ellie answered.
"Sorry about that." Charles shrugged.
"That's fine, you couldn't help it." Hailey stood and approached her friends.
"Well, I'm going to swing by the shops. Wanna go on a shopping spree with me, Hailey?" Ellie asked.
"No, I can't. I'd steal everything I wanted."
"What did you expect me to do?"
Charles sighed. "Okay, first of all, both of you, stealing is bad, don't do that. Second of all, I had something planned to do with Hailey. Alone. I hope you don't mind, Ellie." He glanced at Ellie.
"That's okay. I'll try not to steal anything. Meet up here again at lunchtime, yeah?" Ellie nodded.
"Sounds alright. What about you, Hailey?" Charles asked.
Hailey nodded in agreement.
"Alright then! Ellie, have fun. Hailey, come with me."
"Oh, it's pretty here. Look how thick the ice is!" Hailey commented after seeing the lake surrounded by willow trees covered in snow.
"I know. You see that green flag over there?" Charles pointed to it.
"Yeah?"
"That means it's safe to ice skate." The pilot lifted two pairs of skate.
"Oh, you didn't have to!" Hailey blushed. "Plus, I don't even know how to skate."
"Well, I can teach you. Here."
"Come on, I won't let you fall!" Charles beckoned.
"I'm still scared." Hailey glanced down at the ice. "What if the ice breaks?"
"The ice isn't gonna break, professionals check the ice, and if they said it isn't gonna break, it isn't gonna break. Come on!"
Hailey sighed. "Alright." She gripped onto Charles' hands as he pulled her onto the ice.
"Slippery." Hailey commented.
"I know, you get used to it. You'll learn." Charles said, sliding and not seeming even a bit off balance. "Just gotta be quick enough."
"Quick? I want to go slow..." Hailey said.
"I know, but that's not how you do it." Charles told her. "Come on!"
He pushed off the ice, sliding across the frozen lake a little. Hailey nearly got knocked off balance and she flailed her left arm trying to regain balance then caught herself on Charles' arm.
"See? That wasn't so bad. You didn't fall."
"I almost did! It was terrifying!" Hailey slowly let go of her boyfriend's arm.
"But you didn't."
"True."
They kept ice skating for about another half hour before heading back to meet up with Ellie.
"Did you guys have fun?" Ellie asked.
"Yup!" Charles chirped.
Hailey nodded.
"Awesome. I got myself some good stuff. Lots of coats and candle. Even got you guys some stuff." Ellie told the two.
"Great."
"Alright, where do you guys wanna go for lunch?" Ellie changed the subject.
"I don't know." Charles glanced at Hailey.
Hailey shrugged.
"How about that café in the town square? We can get hot chocolate or coffee there. The hot chocolate there is really good though." Ellie suggested.
"Yeah, that... That sounds alright." Charles nodded in agreement.
"I told you it was amazing." Ellie said.
"Yeah!" Hailey nodded.
"I burnt my tongue."
"Don't drink stuff that's too hot. Chill out!" Ellie told him off.
"I know. It's just really good!" Charles said as Ellie slowly picked up her cup and drank the hot chocolatly liquid with marshmallows and whipped cream.
"You know, we should do this next year." Hailey said after moving the hot drink away from her lips.
"Definitely." Charles nodded.
They kept talking for awhile before leaving the café and returning home.
