Chapter 77 [Later that Afternoon—Kent Farm]
Clark opened his eyes. Chill's stabbing had subsided somewhat. His arms and legs didn't feel as heavy. He felt something wet across his forehead. "Wh…at?"
"Clark! You're awake!" Lana rushed to his bedside. "Mrs. Crane!"
"Aye, Lana. I see that. Thank you." Katrina walked back into the room. She looked him over. "Greetings, Mr. Kent. It is quite a relief to see you awake." She peeled off the cloth on his forehead.
"What happened?" He sat up with effort in the bed.
"The good news is your soul and spirit are fine. Dr. Dubois could not find any physical issues. Miss Lang informed me of the telepathic connection you share with Jennifer Dubois. I believe that is the source. Her situation improves and so is your condition." Katrina frowned. "I shall have to speak to the others about this matter. If they can affect several people through their actions against one, we are in grave danger."
"You lie back down, Clark. Dr. Dubois and your Mom have already emailed Mr. Reynolds. You're out for the next two days. He has agreed." Lana gently pushed him back down with her hands onto his back.
"Sorry about the scene this morning." He narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean Professor Dubois had it? What was this?"
IT WAS A MAGICAL ATTACK, KAL-EL. HER BODY WAS FINE. HER SPIRIT AND LIFE ENERGY WERE DIMMED, WHEN SHE FELT PAIN, SO DID YOU THROUGH YOUR TELEPATHY. Jor-El pointed out. THANK YOU, LANA LANG, FOR YOUR DIRECTIVE. AND YOU, HUMAN, THANK YOU.
Uh sure. You're welcome. Lana kept her eyes on Clark.
Katrina raised an eyebrow. "A telepathic voice from nowhere? What wonder is this?"
Clark shook his head. "He's the ghost of my birth father, Jor-El. He communicates like that. So…you're a doctor?"
Katrina shrugged. "Not exactly in your definition. I'm a healer and a priestess."
"Priestess?" Clark asked.
SHE IS A WITCH, KAL-EL.
Clark's eyes went wide. He stiffened. "And what are you doing?"
"Mr. Kent, I am a practitioner of the white arts. My coven was a force for good. I am helping your soul and spirit to rebalance itself." Katrina held up a steaming cup. "This is herbal tea. It will help you to relax."
Clark took the cup. He sniffed at its contents and made a face.
DRINK IT, KAL-EL.
"Drink it, Clark. She's helped you this far," Lana urged.
"Fine." Clark gulped the tea down so as to get past the taste as quickly as possible. He set the cup down on the nightstand. Drowsiness weighed down on his eyelids. Within two more heartbeats, he was sound asleep.
"How long will he be asleep with that?" Lana considered the cup.
"He should sleep until tomorrow morning. The rest will allow body and spirit to regain its strength. You both need to control that sensitivity. Perhaps that spirit can help?" Katrina deduced.
THAT IS MY INTENTION. I WISH FOR JARA, LANA LANG AND KAL-EL TO LEARN SUCH THINGS, Jor-El chimed in.
"We will." Lana promised. "Come on. Let's tell his parents." She led Katrina out of the room and closed the door behind themselves. They went downstairs where Angie talked with Jonathan and Martha. "Clark's back to sleep."
"But he did wake up?" Martha asked.
"He did indeed. We spoke for a few minutes. I believe the worst is over. He will still require rest," Katrina declared.
"I'll second that." Angie concurred. "Thank you, Katrina. I know Ichabod must be worried."
"He is concerned, Angela. Still we must be vigilant. He and I wished to help our friend, Jennifer. The boy, Clark, is important as well." Katrina sat down. "I gave him some herbal tea to help him sleep. He should wake up in the morning."
"Is she a doctor, Angie? I mean…" Jonathan started.
"Jonathan, she's a natural healer and well trained much as my sister-in-law and daughter were. I trust her when it comes to such things. Jenny's recovering. Clark will feel better. Somehow he felt her pain," Angie assessed.
"I told them that the telepathy is more harmful than good," he insisted.
Jonathan, I'm a telepath too. Angie drank from her coffee. A pointed look burned into his eyes.
"You did that?" Lana gasped.
"I sure did. Dave and I both can. We've learned how to deal with it. Clark and you will have to do the same with your gifts," Angie explained.
"We're about to eat. Mrs. Crane, would you care to join us? We're about to have ham and potatoes," Martha invited.
"I believe I shall. Then can I get a ride in your horseless carriage?" Katrina accepted.
"Be glad to. Thank you." Lana agreed.
Jonathan got up and walked out of the room. Gratitude kept him quiet. Still Prejudice burned at him…
