Chapter 38: The Calm before the Storm
"Do I make myself clear?".
"Of course, Your Highness"
"Is there any other details I can give you?".
"I know I'm defending little Malina and Hell's favourite human, but you haven't told me what trouble they have gotten themselves into".
The devil sighed, rubbing her brow, her head faced to the floor. Finally she turned back around looking into her bathroom's mirror, the rose golden frame was immaculate, almost reflecting her appearance as well as the mirror itself. However, it did not show her a reflection.
Hell's best lawyer was staring back at her.
He was a thin demon of medium build and height, his short black hair was combed back into a quiff, he was currently cleaning the lenses of his thick black framed glasses while awaiting her response.
He was as far as demons go, a very attractive man, his chiseled jawline, jet black hair, blemish free face and seductive gaze all gave him an advantage, all used in order to trick and deceive his victims.
He was wearing a three piece black suit and red tie, he had a velvet red handkerchief tucked into his breast pocket on his lapel. He wore a crimson blazer, an antique platinum pocket watch was in it's pocket attached to a chain, the other end wrapped around one of the blazer's buttons. On his wrists there were silver cuffs in the shapes of diamonds like on a playing card.
He was one of the smartest of the demonic lawyers in Hell, he had been personally chosen for this assignment. His high IQ, quick thinking, efficient communication, analytical and people skills would serve him well, he was a foe that was not to be underestimated.
Dagon, Hell's best lawyer.
Dagon, the man who could talk himself out of a room with no doors.
Dagon, the demon who had worked in all sectors of the law both in Hell...
...and on Earth.
"They were mugged by three other humans, Malina snapped and murdered all of them in a brutal manner...like any demon would" the devil watched her demon place his glasses back onto his face. He then proceeded to withdraw a small comb from the inside of his suit's inner pocket. It was made of pure silver.
"Oh is that all? I'll have them home for dinner" Dagon smirked, combing his fringe upwards and to the right.
"That is not all Dagon" the devil crossed her arms.
She hated when she knew someone was smarter than her.
"Then please proceed, Your Highness" the demon continued to comb his hair, he was practicing changing into his human form, perfecting his disguise.
"I'll be honest, we have been quite reckless up here. We have not been discreet in the slightest, the usage of portals has caused the humans to become suspicious of us", the demon heard a knock on her bathroom door.
"I'm busy!" she shouted at the knock.
"Just thought I'd tell you the suits have left...finally" Judgement's voice came in response.
"Thank you High Prosecutor. There has most likely been multiple video recordings of his use of our portals, the detective, Sasha Burn seems particularly invested in unveiling the truth".
"Ah I see, not only are they being tried for murder, but I sense there is an ulterior motive at work. They will desperately try to squeeze him and Malina for that kind of information" the grey demon replied.
"Humans are naturally curious beings, they seek the truth desperately" his white eyes transformed to an emerald green, his black horns and tail disappearing too.
"I am inclined to agree, I don't think this will be a simple court case. I am unsure of what kind of evidence they will have" the devil staying more on topic.
"No worries Your Majesty, whatever we are up against, I shall bring them home" he pocketed his comb, smirking at his finalised outfit. "I remain undefeated in a court of law, I am honored to have been chosen" the grey demon now knelt before his Queen.
"You are lucky I didn't choose Lilith or Oni...or The Magician-" the devil stopped, sighing again, "but I need the best for this one, need I remind you of the consequences of failure?".
"I will not fail you. I will begin my infiltration immediately" the grey demon had his head facing the floor, his right fist over his heart.
"You are one of few demons who have been amoungst the humans for countless years, you know their laws inside and out, you have saved many Hell Priests from imprisonment and execution" the devil paused realising she was stating the obvious. "I know you won't let me down", the grey demon smirking at this compliment.
However, the Queen of Hell was not finished.
"But I must remind you; there are to be no human casualties at all! We cannot risk attracting the wrong type of attention". Lucifer brushed a strand of white hair out of her face, the Queen's hair was growing too long again. She would have to get it cut next time she visited Hell, she had been slightly neglecting her appearance recently.
But he loved her whatever she looked like.
"If it were up to me I'd send Judgement or Cerberus or even fucking Beelzebub in there to kill every last one of them" she grew angry simply at the fact she couldn't do this.
She wished it were that easy, she would love to hear their screams and the sound her heels would make as she sliced through their jugulars, the high prosecutor would make easy work of them, but she would save some for the devil to play with.
Lucifer shook herself from her bloodlust. She couldn't risk it.
"We cannot spill anymore human blood, even if it was an accident. That's an order".
"Of course, there will be no need for it. I imagine the man in the clouds is not too happy about human blood on demon hands". Dagon was right, the slaughter of three humans by a demon would not go unnoticed.
"I wouldn't be surprised if those winged bastards were already on their way down here" the devil turned her head away from the mirror, she glared into the corner of her bathroom.
"Rise Dagon" she said finally, looking back into the mirror after pondering while staring into space. The demon obeying.
"Permission to speak freely, Your Highness?" the grey demon interlocked his grey hands behind his back.
"Of course".
"Your demons will not play pretend forever. In my opinion, if this sequence of events doesn't expose our existence to humanity now, then it will only be a matter of time".
An ugly truth, it was only a matter of time before they slipped up again, in the end they would be discovered. Lucifer pushed this thought to the back of her head, this was not the time for doubts.
"Noted" he received a stern reply from the Mistress of Darkness.
"I'll take my leave then".
The devil nodded and placed her white gloved hand against the mirror, the surface became a semi-liquid yet it still clung to the wall, ripples flowed out from where she touched. As if a pebble was dropped into the surface of still pond.
As her own reflection reappeared again, she released her hand and the ripples ceased, the surface becoming a solid. The mirror now returned to it's original state, this was the easiest and most discreet form of communication with Hell, not many demons knew about this method.
The devil simply stared at her own reflection for a minute, the doubts lingering in her mind, becoming more potent the longer she looked at her own...stupid face.
Fuck.
"If he can't save them...then no one can".
BZZZZZZZZZZZZT
The Helltaker instantly rose from the concrete floor which he was sat upon, the man had been leaning against the hard grey wall lost in thought. He now approached his door and peered as much as he could through the bars towards the entrance of the detention centre.
"Oh here she comes, the woman of the hour" he drawled, his rage and anger now building again as he glared at his new nemesis. He wished he still had his sunglasses, he had forgotten to take a pair while he was being shoved into the back of a police car.
He had been missing the glasses Justice had given him, his mask.
"Shut the fuck up you perverted degenerate" the detective spat, she was followed by two normal uniformed officers. "You keep your mouth shut and this will all go smoothly" she chucked a set of keys to one of the officers. The man in question stepped towards Malina's cell and opened it.
"What's going on?" Malina asked, she was genuinely confused.
Were they letting them go?
"You two are being placed under house arrest until you stand trial" the detective decided to not speak too harshly to the demon. "You didn't think we were letting you go free were you?" she gave Malina a cruel smile.
The officer then went to the Helltaker's cell and put the keys in the door, but he didn't open it.
"Oh please give me an excuse this" the officer smiled, his right hand went down to his belt and he grabbed a small black square with metal prongs at one end. He clicked a button and the taser came to life, blue electricity sparking between the two prongs.
"Just open the fucking door, I'm too tired to resist" the Helltaker speaking truthfully this time. He just wanted to get away from this place...from them.
"Oh come on! It's been almost a year and I haven't used it once yet. I'm twitching for some action" the officer pleaded. All of the officers grinning at this exchange.
"Could always use it on yourself" he joked back, but the officer was now holding the live taser closer and closer to his cell door, taking a few steps forward. The Helltaker instinctively took a few paces backward so the weapon couldn't harm him.
"Did you not hear me you sadistic pig? I'll come willingly" he was out of reach of the taser, but still the officer advanced, stretching his arm at full length into the cell through the bars. Malina had just noticed that all of the three members of the law were all wearing an almost identical sadistic smile, as if they were being possessed.
Maybe they were just freaks like Zdrada.
"Leave him alone" Malina said defiantly, beginning to walk out of her cell.
"Yeah...not going to happen" the detective came over to the entrance of Malina's cell and shoved the demon hard. An unsuspecting Malina tripped and fell, landing on her back, her head taking the full force, hitting the concrete and splitting open.
Black demon blood was running across the cell, soaking the cold grey concrete floor.
"Actually I've changed my mind, let's have some fun with him boys".
"MALINA!" the Helltaker screamed upon hearing his demon being shoved, unaware of the injury she had sustained.
The man lunged forward and used the distraction of Malina hitting the floor to force the officer closest to taze himself. Grabbing his wrist and thrusting his hand under and back through the bars and towards his own chest
The officer's body fell limp and began writhing, still partially trapped on a horizontal bar in the door. The detective and the other officer were slow to react to this, both of them startled by the demon's black coloured blood.
"Why is her-" the detective was about to say, but now her fighting instincts kicked in, they were under attack.
In the time it had taken her to snap back to reality, the Helltaker had managed to open his own cell door pushing the first officer aside, he had put his hand through the bars turning the key all the way and was now on his way to attack the next officer with his fallen colleague's taser.
The huge man's lightning speed outstanded both his captors, he was now struggling to incapacitate the other officer while Sasha stood frozen, startled by the events that were rapidly unfolding.
He was trying to force the taser to make contact with the officer's body, the man holding the Helltaker's wrists at bay but was slowly losing the fight. The detective snapped and withdrew a telescopic baton from her hip and began thrashing the Helltaker's right arm with it.
As the pain overwhelmed the human, the adrenaline suddenly kicked in and soon the pain was a numb distant memory, replaced by hot fiery determination. As the detective began another swing he caught the baton with his right hand and ripped it out of her hand all in one fluid movement. He hit the exhausted officer in the shin with the baton, causing him to kneel, the man grunting in pain.
He hit the officer again over the head with the baton, this then caused the man to stop preventing the Helltaker's left arm from delivering fifty thousand volts into his neck. Just like his partner he collapsed to the ground in agony, seizuring all over the place.
This poor man still had a vice grip of the Helltaker's red tank-top, he hadn't been able to change from his workout gear when he was arrested, the man not letting go as he fell. He delivered another two blows with the baton to the officer's right hand to release his grasp.
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZT
The sound the door made when opened made him snap from his rage, an ear piercing alarm suddenly followed, klaxons blaring as red lights flashed throughout the corridor.
"WARNING RIOT CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS IN CELL BLOCK 2C, ALL PERSONAL PLEASE PROCEED TO THE DESIGNATED RESPONSE POSITIONS" a loud feminine automated voice rang out over the speakers.
The man's eyes moved off of the bodies of the incapacitated officers trying to find his enemy, knowing he was already too late to reach her. He looked to where the door alarm had sounded, hate was empowering him now.
Stood behind the thick metal door, the woman remained protected, glaring through the mesh at the angry Helltaker. She had pressed the panic button behind the door initiating riot procedures within the precinct.
Blinded by his rage, he walked past Malina's cell without thinking to check on her and came to stand on the other side of the thick door. He was practically foaming at the mouth with hatred, he wanted to hurt her. Make her pay, she is what started all of this.
The man decided more taunting was in order, he smiled at his enemy.
"Coward...didn't fancy your chances?".
"I have all the evidence I need now to put you away for a long time, nothing you do or say will change that" she smiled back.
"I have all the evidence I need, did you forget about your little cameras and microphones in here?".
"Ooh, whoops I guess I forgot" she feigned being worried. The Helltaker followed where her eyes were looking, she had glanced at the panel Amy had moved and sure enough, it had been removed in a much less graceful manner, ripped off.
The entire circuitry of the box was exposed, a red button had been pressed and small text was being displayed on a screen within the mess of electronics, it said 'RESET IN PROGRESS'.
"You won't get away with this, me and Malina are proof enough for police brutality".
But the detective wasn't listening to him anymore, she was looking behind her at the approaching reinforcements. The Helltaker's adrenaline fueled fury was now being replaced with panic, he would soon be beaten within an inch of his life.
A whole squadron of officers armed to the teeth with riot armour, thick plastic shields, small arms and batons were approaching, they had rubber bullets locked and loaded. Armed to tackle a small rebellion.
"Calling it a riot when it's just one man. I'm honored" he shouted before retreating, it had only just occurred to him that Malina hadn't spoken a word this entire time. He sprinted as fast as he could towards her cell, his heart breaking into a million pieces when he looked into it.
"GET IN THERE AND TAKE CONTROL!" he heard the detective command.
Laying on the floor unconscious, Malina was twitching, she had received a huge open wound on the back of her head, half of the cell's floor was soaked in her black blood. He wrenched open the cell door with such force that it smashed violently against the wall, leaving an indentation in the concrete.
He then proceeded to slam it shut, using the detective's baton as a wedge, jamming it under the door. All logic and reason had abandoned him now...he just wanted to protect her.
He now knelt next to his demon, knowing he was too late to help. Tears were forming as he saw how much pain she was in.
"Malina...what...what did they do to you" his voice was frail, breaking almost at every word. He grabbed the blue covers off of her bed and scrunching them up tightly using them as a makeshift bandage.
He gently lifted her head and placed one of the pillows underneath, trying to make her as comfortable as possible. He then began dabbing her wound with the covers, eventually applying pressure to it.
The demon was not responding to any of his questions, she was struggling to stay conscious, her breathing shallow and rapid. She too was crying, fighting to breathe and sob at the same time. Even worse, she was losing the ability to maintain her disguise. Her horns, her tail, her red eyes were rapidly appearing and disappearing.
"Just hang in there" he kept saying over and over, he was frozen, still in a kneeling position...frozen...in perpetual fear, the mere sight of Malina's suffering made him want to gag.
"Just hang in there" he whispered now, one hand applying pressure to her wound, the other holding tightly onto her limp hand.
"Just hang...in there".
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT
"MOVE! MOVE!" heavy footsteps came thundering down the corridor. The approaching horde would show no mercy.
"CELL 4 NOW!" a voice shouted, the footsteps were right outside.
"Malina just-"
"GET ON THE FUCKING GROUND NOW!" a voice shouted, heavily padded gloved hands were all over him. They had already opened his cell, tossing the baton aside. They were now ripping him away from his demon.
His precious Malina...
"MY STEP DAUGHTER NEEDS MEDICAL ATTENTION NO-"
"I SAID GET ON THE FUCKING GROUND NOW" a sharp kick was delivered to his chest as he knelt in corridor, trying to fight back but losing terribly. He was being forced to the floor.
"PLEASE- MY DAUGHTER" the Helltaker used what little air he had left to scream.
"HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK! HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK'".
The big man was now being beaten by multiple enforcers, one delivering kicks to his legs to make him collapse further, punches and batons were being directed at his face and arms, eventually one of the officers was on his back, his knee dug into the Helltaker's spine.
"GAAAAHHHHHGGGGG!" the fifty thousand volts finally came and the man's body now obeyed the orders barked at him, going limp and convulsing, he was now immobile, laying on his stomach. Now he could be restrained properly.
As all his nerve endings screamed at him, he could barely feel the familiar cold of handcuffs being placed on his wrists which were behind her back.
"M-m-m-m-m-m-y-y dau-" is all he could stutter as the assault continued, a female officer grabbing his hair and shoved his face hard against the concrete and keeping it there. The electrifying tingling sensation in his body was slowly subsiding but this was only replaced by the bombardment of hits from batons, boots and the butt of a gun.
"M-m-ma-l-in-a" when he could finally lift his head, he saw two people in riot gear standing over her, they were speaking into their shoulder radios. "G-e-et aw-a-" another hit silenced him, causing him to hiss in agony.
He looked up at an approaching figure, the cause of this fight was standing over him. During his last moments of consciousness he watched the all too familiar cruel smirk form and saw the detective raise her thick leather boot up above his head. It was the last thing he saw before the darkness took him.
"Goodnight".
"Something's wrong" Justice winced in pain, the demon clutching her head with those red gloved hands. She, Lucifer, Judgement, Azazel and Modeus were all sat within the lounge in silence, awaiting any news they could get. Surprisingly no had noticed how intensely Justice was concentrating.
"What? What's wrong?!" Lucifer was instantly stood and coming to the blind demon's side on the sofa, the other demons and angel following suit; gathering around her.
"I don't feel right. I- Azazel here-" Justice guided one of Azazel's hands to her temple, the pain becoming more severe now that she was connected to an angel. "Tell them what you see".
The Curious Angel was now also reacting as if pained, she initially flinched and took a step back, reluctant to maintain a connection. However she sucked it up and persisted, trying to make sense of all of the blurry images she could see. Azazel tried her hardest to concentrate but it was already overwhelming her.
"I see a corridor full of humans in strange black armour, they are gathered around something. There are two of them in a room nearby, is that blood?" she squeaked.
"There is so much screaming and shouting, so much pain, I-" the blind demon now guided Azazel's other hand, both of them struggling to carry the burden of this sight.
"Keep...looking" Justice gasped, she was becoming nauseous.
"There is the detective...I think" the angel fought down a scream. "I can see them moving...someone, it's him! He is surrounded by those humans!".
"Wait Azazel, what colour is the blood?" Judgement asking the important question, she was stood behind them, leaning on the back of sofa with her elbows.
"Gaah!" Azazel almost yelled, the strain of this vision was too much. She had to release herself from this agonising pain. Both herself and Justice were left panting, both of them sore from such a prolonged connection.
"Black" Azazel said finally, she had taken a step back and collapsed, now sitting on the floor with her legs to the side. "It was black blood".
"That means..." Modeus began.
"Malina..." Judgement finished, she watched her boss turn away from the family and cross her arms, not revealing her true emotions to anyone.
"We need to do something" she looked at the other demons in the room, even these simple words had already riled up the household. All of them were tired of waiting, they were tired of hiding.
"We can't.." the devil was the only one who was bottling up her rage at the moment.
"We HAVE to!" Judgement protested, "He and Malina could be in serious danger!".
"We can't..." Lucifer's voice trembled. Her arms were now at her side, the white gloves tightening into fists.
"We no longer have a choice..." the high prosecutor began walking out of the lounge, but she stopped upon seeing Zdrada at the entrance, leaning against the doorframe.
"Where are you going?" the usually tough and sadistic bitch of a demon did not have her usual mascara on, it had been cried away.
"To find our Helltaker and Malina" Judgement walked past her and was already beginning to summon a portal in the middle of the hallway.
"Then I'm coming with you" Zdrada was instantly at the grey demon's side, ready for anything. The white demon already transforming into her human form, the grey one remaining in her demon from until she had conjured the portal.
"Fine, we go in quietly and calmly, we do not kill ANYONE understand?" the older demon was laying down the ground rules, but while she spoke Zdrada noticed she was visibly struggling to manifest the portal.
"Sure...whatever, what's taking you so long?" Zdrada looked down at the prosecutor's grey hands, orange sparks were flickering off of her fingertips.
"Something's wrong, I can't use...any...of my powers" Judgement was speaking truthfully, she was trying to manifest her gauntlets, her chains...anything. "Wait" she turned and saw the devil still facing away from the family, looking out the window. Her fists were still clenched.
"This is your doing isn't it?!" she stormed into the lounge, raising her voice to almost shout. The High Prosecutor glared at the back of her boss's head, the devil was stood only a few feet away.
Pandemonica and Cerberus had now entered the downstairs, all of them sensing the imminent explosion in tensions.
"It is my doing" the devil spoke softly still not turning around.
"What the hell?! Why can't I use my powers?" Judgement bared her sharp teeth, it was never like her to protest or complain, she had sworn an oath never to disobey her Queen. The bitch demon came to the prosecutor's side, crossing her arms but remaining silent for now.
"I am...the goddamn Queen of Hell...you WILL listen to me" she didn't raise her voice to the prosecutor but everyone knew how menacing this could be, it was worse if she didn't shout.
"Oh I'm listening! Why do you refuse to help them?!".
"I do not 'refuse to'...I am going to help by proxy".
"By proxy? Speak English" Zdrada butting into the conversation.
The devil turned around finally and glared at her adopted daughter. Zdrada shrinking as this familiar scolding look lingered on her.
"We are going to do nothing! Because we cannot do anything! If we step one foot outside of this house they will know something is wrong, if we attack the police precinct and try and free them they will know!".
The devil took a step closer.
"I want revenge on these humans as much as you do! But rather than thinking with your fists you have to start thinking with your brains instead!" anger was now bubbling inside the devil's black blood.
"You two think you can just waltz in and rescue them? If you do that you will be condemning our chances of living here...of staying with him".
"Fuck off, that is bullshit! We need to-" Zdrada began.
"NO ZDRADA!" the devil took another step closer, her rage ever potent. "What we need to do is stay calm and wait for this to blow over" she released the tension in her shoulders and decided to inform them all of her plan. "For once, we cannot act...not this time..."
"Listen to me, all of you" she glanced around the room, speaking to all of her family. Her voice carrying authority that every demon would listen to. "I have employed one of Hell's best lawyers to help us, with his expertise we will be dealing with this the smart way; clean, calmly and without raising any suspicion".
"Fucking Dagon" Pandemonica hissed, bad memories began filling her head. "That spineless slimy toad, he makes my skin crawl".
"Who?" Azazel only knew the name of the twelve demons, thirteen if you counted Behemoth.
"An expert lawyer my dear, he is a special kind of trickster" Pandemonica instantly replied. "I don't think there is anyone more suited to this job, calling the weasel skilled would be a disservice, he is one of the best...despite his flaws".
"What's a weasel? Azazel asked another pointless question, to which she never received an answer.
"You think a fucking lawyer is going to save them?" Zdrada was still hostile even in defeat.
"Yes, I do" the devil composed herself. "It doesn't matter, you are not to interfere with my plan in any way" she firstly eyed Zdrada, but then looked into the white eyes of her prosecutor.
"That is a direct order" her eyes moved from Judgement's and then scanned the entire room, "To ALL of you!".
The room fell silent, everyone was suppressing their thoughts, afraid of the backlash that expressing them might bring. They all knew Lucifer was right. Beelzebub now finally joined the family, her gentle footsteps coming down the stairs. The Queen of Crimson unaware of the tension hanging in the air.
"What's going on?" she entered to see most demon's hanging their heads, looking at the floor. There was a strange smile on her face...but she quickly hid it.
"Where have you been?" Justice had finally recovered and sensed the final member of the harem, aside from Malina, entering the room. The Awesome Demon still didn't trust her...
"I was having a nap" Beelzebub spoke truthfully, "Did I miss anything?".
"No, nothing at all" Lucifer was quick to reply, she still knew Beelzebub would try and lay her hands on any information she could get.
"Well, did you just host a funeral? Why is everyone so gloom and doom?" Beelzebub read the room well.
"No- I just-" the devil struggled to think of a lie in time but she didn't need to in the end, she was interrupted.
A loud knocking came from the door...
The back door...
"YOU HAVE TAKEN IT TOO FAR THIS TIME DETECTIVE!" the Captain screamed at the woman, the officers outside his office not looking through the windows, avoiding wanting to receive any of the Captain's wrath.
"DO YOU KNOW THE PR NIGHTMARE YOU HAVE GOTTEN US INTO?" he continued his rant.
"Ca-" she barely said a word.
"YOU DO NOT GET THE PRIVILEGE OF DEFENDING YOURSELF!" the man was shouting so loudly that he was spitting with every word.
"YOU LEFT-" he had to calm down. "You left one prisoner with severe head trauma and called a FUCKING riot team to subdue the other, he is just one man Sasha!".
The detective stared blankly at her superior.
"Do you realise what kind of shitstorm we are going to be in? When the press find out, which they most certainly will...heads will roll for this one Sasha".
He realised that the detective was not herself, she seemed not to care about anything at the moment, not even her job's security.
"I saw what you did Sasha, the puddle of her blood on the cell floor is evident of your barbaric sadism. I know you sabotaged the audio and video equipment so that no evidence of this would come to light".
No response, not even a hint of regret.
"SASHA!" he slammed a clenched fist onto his desk, pencils, stationary and anything light enough was sent flying. "ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?!".
"Yes sir" but the detective remained in this trance, he could not break her from it, no matter how loud he shouted. She had seemingly been hypnotized like this for a while now. Her job must be consuming her he thought.
"It doesn't seem like it to me" Dean took off his glasses, grabbing his brow.
"Give me your badge and your gun" he said simply.
"Sir?" she finally sounded worried. For all the wrong reasons...
"You're unfit for duty, that much is clear" he placed his glasses back on his face.
"Sir?!" she couldn't believe her ears.
"Sasha, I'm not going to sugarcoat this, you're fired. You are no longer working the 'Helltaker case', who came up with that absurd name anyway?".
"You can't be serious?" she protested, not really putting up much of a defence for her actions.
"I am deadly serious, this precinct is fucked. You are a disgrace of a detective, I am ashamed to say you once worked in my precinct".
"I'll quit when the job's done" she countered trying to recover what was left of her pride. She would see this through...
Enough he thought.
"Officers" he pressed a black button and spoke into a microphone, his voice coming through the speakers outside his office. The Captain had expected two uniformed police officers to enter but instead, the two mysterious men in suits entered.
"Ah, Agent Martin, Agent Connor, you two will have to do" the Captain was definately surprised. "Escort former detective Sasha Burn off of the premises please".
He was even more surprised when the two agents locked the door to his office and drew the blinds to all of his windows. Something was definately amiss...
"What's going on here Agents?".
"Forgive us sir" Agent Martin said, both of them assuming a formal stance with their hands behind their back, both having neutral faces, no emotion what so ever.
"Forgive you fo-" the Captain fell forward against his desk, he began coughing, gasping for air. He grasped for something to support himself, grabbing onto the edges of the wooden desk. "Wha-" he wheezed.
Suddenly his coughing turned violent, spewing what at first looked like blood, but then it changed into an inky black liquid, the man coughing more and more of the liquid up. He tried placing his hand over his mouth, but this did little to stop the flow of this viscous black substance.
"Hel-" he begged, trying to get words out between coughs. "Please" he looked at both the detective and the two agents. Both of them staring at this transformation as if nothing was wrong.
Eventually his legs buckled and he collapsed onto the floor, his body twitching as he gagged, the man was drowning now, his lungs full of the black tar. The Captain eventually succumbed, being powerless to stop it. The other three witnesses simply watched the desk the Captain was behind, hearing the occasionally wet cough and gasp of air.
His body was done, as the oxygen left his lungs the darkness consumed him, an inky smile was on his face just before he passed. Those blues eyes rolled into the back of his head...
"Are you there?" Sasha asked nervously, knowing now that the higher being was in the room with them.
"Yes" the wet voice responded, yet the body did not rise.
"I wish there was another way" the detective sounded almost sad, but not quite.
"There was no other way. The transformation took longer than I anticipated, this form was...resistant".
The body of Captain Dean now stood, using the former Captain's desk as support. The man wiped away the black substance that had exploded from his mouth, nose and later his eyes. His eyes were a horrible white colour, looking like two polished pearls, no iris, no pupils, featureless.
"Has the arrest of the Helltaker and the demon been a success?" the being addressed the Agents rather than the detective.
"Yes, Mrs Burn here almost jeopardized our entire operation but we have successfully covered up the truth, owing to the man's past trauma for his sudden outburst" Agent Martin spoke.
"However, intel has gotten word a new lawyer has taken up their defence. One of America's top lawyers in fact, Damien Stonewall" the other agent followed up.
"Already? This is troubling news, our operation can not fail". The Captain's body walked around the desk, purposefully knocking over the Dean's family photo. It smashing as it hit the wooden floor.
"It will not, Your Lordship" the two Agents knelt in synchronisation, the detective stood frozen in the middle of the room at the foot of the desk.
"I am disappointed in you Sasha, you seemed full of...potential".
"Please, let me have another chance" she pleaded, aware that the Captain's corpse was slowly approaching.
"There is no room for second chances" he placed his cold hands on her head, the inky smile was still on his face. His glasses had been lost when the Captain fell. Now those dead pale eyes devoid of any colour pierced her soul.
"Rest now my child, we will be reunited, I will have you by my side when Judgement day comes...you will be saved" the being began draining the woman of her essence; the life force escaping her.
"Wai-" she pleaded as her very soul began it's departure from her body.
"We will be together... my child, we will tear down those pearly white gates".
Sasha's corpse now began to wither, the decomposition of her flesh speeding up rapidly, her skin thinned until there was nothing but ash. The Captain was practically holding a skeleton now.
"We will bend those savage beasts amoungst the hellscape to our will, nothing will stand in our way".
The Captain finished feeding, holding the detective's skull in his hand.
"We will meet again, my child".
He placed the skull on his desk, smiling at this newest addition. There was nothing left except her skull and ashes.
"Much more appropriate decor".
He went to sit behind the desk with his legs resting ontop of it.
"The acquisition of this vessel has been of assistance yes?".
"An excellent asset, the Captain maintains a great position of power here" Agent Connor did not look up as he spoke.
"Good".
A knock came from the Captain's door, a voice followed.
"Boss, everything alright? I heard something shatter. Also your wife is on the phone, you want me to-" a young officer was stood outside the door.
"Tell her I'll call her back, I'm a bit busy at the moment Manning" the normal Captain's voice replied.
"Yes sir".
After a brief silence, the evil voice returned.
"I must return now, you two will oversee the 'Helltaker case', whoever is assigned to it you will neutralise and replace with your own. This vessel will assist you in any way you see fit. I will tell you when to bring me more souls, this form is...unsustainable".
The being paused watching both men nodding in synchronisation.
"No matter what...you will not fail me".
The two suits were still kneeling, both still terrified to gaze upon their master.
"Yes, Your Lordship" they both spoke at the same time, their voices blending into one. The voice of mindless slaves.
"In two days time, the entire world will know that demons exist. That their worst nightmares exist" the evil smile grew, becoming ever present.
"In two days time, Judgement Day will be upon us...my reign will soon begin!".
"Ahhh god" the Helltaker groaned, holding his head. The man lay bruised and sore in the precinct's infirmary. His head was throbbing, his muscles ached, his right arm felt broken.
"Ah, you're finally awake!" he heard an unfamiliar voice call to him, he opened his eyes and looked at his surroundings. He was in a small room with two other people; a onsite medic and a man in an impressively smart suit.
"They really walloped ya hey?" the man spoke again, hoping to summon a response.
"Where am I?" he wasn't looking at the man, still adjusting to this new environment.
"You're in the 77th Precinct's onsite infirmary, the lovely nurse Miranda over there has been catering to you" he nodded at the woman who gave him an embarrassed look.
"I'm a medic not a nurse" she spat at the lawyer. The short woman was in her mid thirties, she had blonde hair and spoke with a grand British accent. The Helltaker gave her a once over before resting his head again.
"Whatever you are honey, I'd get beat up everyday just to have you look after me. I know I'd be in good hands" he winked at the lady.
"Creep" she scowled back, but she appreciated the compliment, admiring the charm of this man.
"Tough crowd huh?" he looked back at the Helltaker with a smile.
"Who are you and how long do I have to listen to you speak?" the Helltaker was rubbing his forehead, massaging the tensions that still remained.
"I'm Damien Stonewall, I'll be your lawyer in the upcoming trial. You'll be hearing my voice alot so get used to it chum" he offered his hand for the human to shake. The men shaking hands firmly.
"Hang on, THE Damien Stonewall? I've read about you in the newspaper quite frequently, the man who supposedly remains undefeated in a court of law?" the Helltaker was struggling to comprehend the reputation of the man that sat next to him. His mind was doing somersaults.
"The very same" Damien took off his expensive looking glasses to polish them with his red handkerchief.
"What the fuck are you doing here? I don't think I can afford you..." the Helltaker now decided to sit up and swivel his legs off of the thin metal bed. Miranda the 'medic' now came over and informed him of his injuries. Giving him a list of medicine to take regularly.
"Do not strain yourself, the bruising and swelling should subside in the next few days" she was referring to his right arm and back, the two parts of his body that had sustained the most damaged during his clash with the law.
There was immense bruising down his back and his arm had received a hairline fracture. He didn't care about how injured he was, he only-
Then it hit him.
"SHIT! Where is Malina?!" he almost jumped off of the bed, he was going to grab the nurse by the arms, but the lawyer stopped him from acting this way.
"Woah, Woah, slow down their champ. You have been out for a bit, Malina's safe don't you worry" he had stood in front of the nurse as to block her from being harmed. They didn't need another person to be used as evidence against them.
"No, you don't understand, my dau- my step-daughter had her head split open...she was bleeding bad!" the Helltaker was struggling to remain calm. "Where is she?!".
"I'll take you to her as soon as we are done here-" the man looked over at the nurse and then quickly glanced back at the human. "I've seen to it that she receives 'special' attention" he winked.
"Oh- Okay?" the Helltaker somewhat understanding the hidden message in his voice.
"Yes, let me tell you sunshine, we are going to mop the floor with them in court. We have you and your 'daughter' as evidence of police brutality and misconduct, illegal search of your property, the denial of your rights, I suspect fowl play is involved but I'll need further evidence before I can be certain" the demon rambled without breathing.
"I'll need to get my hands on your service record at some point, we will definately pull the veteran card, whatever their argument will be, they won't have substantial evidence compared to us. They merely have some blurry camera footage and some 'witnesses', alongside some-" the man coughed.
"Alongside some gory pictures and those claw marks in the next room...this will be a cake walk". The lawyer finally stopped to breathe.
The Helltaker was amazed at the skill of this lawyer, he hadn't even told him anything yet...
He hadn't even...told him anything...yet.
It had also just occurred to him that the man's skin was very similar to Judgement's and Behemoth's. At first the lighting within the infirmary had prompted him to assume that the man was of African American descent, but now as his eyes had adjusted he knew that his man wasn't all he seemed to be.
"How did you know about...all of that?"
"I've already compiled an argument with the available evidence, but let's say I had some help from our mutual friend" he winked again.
That could literally be anyone the Helltaker knew.
"Ah, alright sure?" the Helltaker was too battered and exhausted to deal with riddles and hidden messages. "Can we leave now? Take me to Malina".
"Of course, if you're sure you are well enough?" the lawyer helping steady the man as he started to walk.
"Yes, take me to her...now" he demanded, refusing the lawyer's help to stabalise himself. Teetering slightly due to the light headedness but soon regaining his balance, walking normally.
"Your wish is my command".
"Alright here are your possessions, One black Iphone X, one brown wallet with two credits cards, three twenty dollar bills, and one set of house keys" the chubby officer handed the plastic bag of possessions over to the Helltaker.
"You want a tip?" the Helltaker scowled at the man before grabbing his possessions off the counter-top, the officer behind the thick plastic screen ignored the Helltaker's insult.
"And here are your's" he reached down to retrieve the next bag of items. "A black smartphone of unknown make, we ran it through the system and we couldn't make heads or tails of it. Say, what make and model is it?" he asked.
"Just give me my fucking phone you asshat" Malina glared at the man, her sour gaze fresh, intimidating the unfortunate souls to make her acquaintance.
"Alright, fine. One black smartphone, six black bracelets and two packs of spearmint bubble gum" the office slid the bag across the counter.
"About damn time, let get out of this hell hole" she took the Helltaker by the hand and led him to the exit.
"Gentleman" Dagon nodded at the police officers and guards moving towards the double doors with the other two. The three of them walked out into the evening sunlight, all breathing a sigh of relief.
It had been a heartfelt reunion between the Helltaker and his demon, Malina had been treated in a special room on the side of the infirmary, a room that seemingly didn't exist before. The human had heard many officers exclaim that they had never seen this part of the precinct before...in truth it never had existed.
Dagon had actually manifested this special pocket dimension and had incorporated it into reality, his special team of undercover demons had been treating her head injury over the last hour. Thankfully, this room came with an automatic and almost instantaneous short-term amnesia for all humans.
As soon as anyone walked in they immediately forgot what they were doing and proceeded to leave. Damien allowed for the Helltaker to be unaffected by this, the two entering the room and receiving a warm smile from the Sour Demon. It was the first time they could actually interact with each other since their arrest.
Malina and the demon medics were practically undisturbed throughout the course of her treatment, the demons had her good as new within the hour. Once the Helltaker was satisfied, the two of them departed the infirmary.
Dagon covertly collapsed this pocket dimension and sent his team of demons back to Hell without anyone noticing. Not even the Helltaker noticed...until later...
However before they could leave, both of them were forcefully given a new temporary addition to their outfits.
Malina had received a bandage on the back of her head, covering a patch of her white hair that had to be cut away in order for the demons to seal her wound properly, but this wasn't the worst part. The two had been given black electronic monitors strapped to their ankles, devices used to impose a curfew while they were under house arrest.
Now he truly felt like a criminal.
"How long do we have to wear these again?" he had asked while the technician was applying it his ankle, he already applied Malina's.
"Until you're deemed innocent...or guilty" the man simply said. "Did they tell you how these work?".
"Funnily enough they seemed more focussed on breaking my bones" the Helltaker's dark humor was not received well. He realised this when Malina gave him a tired sour glare as if to say "Just shut up and let's go home".
"Tell us once more" he was exhausted and knew Malina was too.
"These will monitor your position twenty-four-seven, they will send a signal to local law enforcement if you are a certain distance away from the designated 'home' you have set up just now. It will also send a signal if it detects you are trying to remove it".
The ginger man finalisied the Helltaker's black ankle bracelet, it making a loud beeping noise before going silent.
"Oh and I think I heard them say you are under curfew, don't stay out after dark. Eight p.m to be specific" the man smiled at the two, oblivious of their hate towards everyone in this damn police station.
"Thanks I guess, come on let's get our shit and get out of here" the Helltaker said following Damien out of the room, Malina following the Helltaker.
"Have a nice day".
The technician's cheery voice made him feel sick.
"Alright, I'll call a taxi" the Helltaker said when they were finally outside of the huge precinct, at the foot of the stone staircase. The man turned on his phone and checked his wallet to make sure everything was still there.
"Already called one, I'd like to see my client get home safely and in comfort" Dagon smiled at both the human and the demon.
"Really? Thank you Damien...I don't know what to say" he was dumbfounded, where and how did Amy find this guy?
"Of course Jason, but I prefer to travel in style, this ride isn't just for you" the demon checked his smart watch and looked down the street.
When the demon looked back at his two clients, he noticed Malina was looking at him strangely. He already knew what was on her mind, simply by the look she was giving him.
"Is there something on my face? You wouldn't let me walk around a police station looking like a messy simpleton would you my dear?" he smirked at the lesser demon.
"I know you from somewhere, don't I?" the curious demon was struggling to remember, a wave of Déjà vu flowed over her. This only gave the Helltaker more evidence to fuel his suspicions about the man.
"Potentially, you might have seen me on TV a few times, I've helped out some powerful people in my life" the man brushed a slight speck of dust off of his shoulder, a humble brag.
"No, from somewhere else, you're-" Malina began.
"A nobody quite frankly" he cut her off with a familiar devilish smirk, "Ah here he comes". Where have I see this douche before? The cogs in Malina's tired brain turned slowly, trying her best to summon the knowledge from her past.
The evening sun was in their eyes as they waited, the orange autumnal light blinding them. Malina was using the Helltaker's body to block the sunlight, standing close to him, the human hadn't even realised the demon's hand was holding onto his right pinky finger.
She looked quite pale, something he hadn't failed to noticed. However, his mind was preoccupied with the questions and worries that were now consuming him.
"Damien, before we go any further, I don't think I can afford your services. I would love to have one of America's best lawyers defending me, who wouldn't. But an army pension only goes so far" the Helltaker had meant to say this earlier to the man but he was sidetracked by the question of Malina's whereabouts.
"Ah, the matter of cost again. How would you react when I say that you won't be paying me?" the man looked at his watch again, he was growing impatient.
"Wait, then who is?" the man's mind was swimming, so many questions, no answers. Damien was not being helpful.
A silver Mercedes E Class came to a stop in front of them, the 2020 model; the newest model. A beautiful car indeed.
"Please, I will explain all on the way back home" he opened the back right door for Malina, the demon instantly climbing in. However the Helltaker remained frozen, he was unsure, he didn't trust this. Who the hell was this guy?!
"You better" the human reluctantly climbing in after Malina.
"Oh you humans" the demon smiled quickly before closing the door.
"Wha-" is all the Helltaker could say before the door was slammed in his face.
Dagon sat in the passenger seat and turned to look at the driver.
"You're late Dawkins, you know I hate lateness!" the lawyer said to his driver.
"It's rush hour, evening traffic, I apologise for the way society is organised sir" the well spoken man replied. Another British asshole.
"Ah I was only joking, no need to make excuses my friend. Drive if you would be so kind" the lawyer began adjusting the car's satnav.
As his eyes grew heavy, he saw the man punching in the address of the demonic household. His household.
How...did...he k-
"Of course sir" the car began moving away from the precinct, they were finally away from that accursed place.
The grey demon eventually looked behind his seat and was about to begin answering the questions he and Malina had been building.
But that was not the case; when he turned, he saw the human and Malina were already fast asleep as they were speeding down the road, the smaller demon sat in the middle of seat cuddling into the man's torso, his arm around her body.
"Well, I guess I'll save the details till later".
"We're here folks, we have plenty of work to do before I'll allow you to rest again!" the demon's loud voice caused the Helltaker to jump awake, the man unaware of where he was before coming back to his senses. Oh for fuck sake...it wasn't a dream. It wasn't anywhere close to sleep, it was a even a power nap, it was a few beautiful seconds of rest before coming back to reality. He felt even more tired now.
Malina hadn't awoken, she simply clung to him tighter as he jolted awake. The demon looked at the two of them, sympathising slightly for how mentally tired they must have been.
"I'll give you two a moment, don't mind Dawkins here, he is a trustworthy man" Dagon exited the car. "I will call for you later Dawkins."
"Very good sir".
"I'll see you two inside" he shut the car door.
The man groaned, rubbing his brow. The three of them sitting in silence for a minute before anyone spoke, the Helltaker resting his neck on the headrest for brief second. He was sore, he hurt all over, it hurt to sit down, the bruises on his back would make the next few weeks unbearable. Eventually he gently shook Malina awake, the demon refusing to at first.
"Malina" he whispered, "It's alright, we are home now". The man turning to look at his home, he had never been so happy to see the house in his life.
"We better be" she mumbled, he could hear how tired she was. The demon slowly moved away from his warm embrace, as much as she didn't want to. When he turned back to look at her, he noticed again how pale she was.
"How are you feeling?" he asked, taking the seat-belts off of both himself and his demon. He put the back of his hand against her forehead, her skin was quite hot, a thin layer of sweat made contact with his fingers.
He hoped she wasn't coming down with a fever, that would be an entirely new problem; a head wound and a possible fever? Poor girl must be feeling so uncomfortable right about now. Could demons get ill?
"Tired, hungry, thirsty, they didn't give us anything to eat or drink" she rubbed the back of her head where her bandage was. "Try not to itch it" he smiled a genuine but exhausted smile, he took her hand away from her head and held it in both of his hands.
Malina blushed at this gesture which only made her feel more uncomfortably hot and ill, she was mentally fatigued.
"We will get something to eat when we are inside, I am famished too. How's that head feeling?" he gestured to her bandage.
"Hurts bad, sore...I know it isn't going to go away for a while. And it's ruined my hair" she was close to tears, more upset at how stupid she looked rather than how much it hurt.
"I'm sorry, the hair will grow back..." rage was building him in again, the lingering guilt would not allow him to move on. He wasn't there to protect her.
"I should have been there to stop it from happening".
"You were there dumbass" she wiped the tears out of her eyes before they fell. "I held back, I really did- if you weren't there I-...I...would have killed...everyone".
"I know, I wish you had now, would of saved us some much hassle" he smirked at her, receiving an evil smirk back.
"But we- we will get our revenge" his smirk turning into a weak smile, he had momentarily forgotten that Dawkins was still silently listening to them, wishing murder on members of the law.
"We better, I wish that woman was dead" the demon's smirk was fading, but her bloodlust was not.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
If only she knew.
"Come on, I'll get us some food and then we will hear what this rich bastard of a lawyer has to say...no offense Dawkins".
"None taken sir, have a pleasant day".
The two left the Mercedes and the man fumbled to opened the front door with his set of keys. The car departing his driveway almost instantly.
"Wait how did he-" he thought aloud as he opened the white door, questioning the lawyer's whereabouts. There stood in front of him, the grey lawyer was now in his true form, his demon form. The smug, demeaning smile was directed at the human as he entered, on his right there was a more pleasant sight.
A tired and stressed Lucifer was giving the Helltaker a warm smile, knowing all along that he would be alright. She was wearing her usual CEO attire except that the black suit jacket was absent, Lucifer was only wearing the red shirt, untucked, the black tie loose. He gave a quick smile and nod to his partner before turning his attention to the lawyer.
"I fucking knew it" he glared at the man, he was noticeably shorter than the devil. His spiked black horns were curled like a ram's instead of being straight and pointed upwards, the Helltaker had never seen anything like it, usually using his own demons as a reference. He looked properly...demonic.
The devil's lawyer now showed his true face; the grey demon flashed his white eyes over to the human. His dark tail protruding from his black suit pants, remaining motionless.
"And I knew you knew, looks like you are smarter than every other meat bag out there" he smiled flashing his sharp teeth before turning back to look at Lucifer, the glare on her face evident that she disliked this insult towards her Helltaker.
"Forgive me, Your Highness. I speak only in jest" he instantly apologised, the devil giving him a scolding look.
"Watch your tongue Dagon" she hissed, her mood instantly changing to relief as the Helltaker and Malina stepped into the house, the human closing the door behind them. The devil first came over to give her demon a hug. "They're back!" she called to the rest of the household before she did so.
"Malina I'm so glad yo- wait what is this? Wha- what did they do to YOU!" the devil had brought Malina into a hug and now she had her hands resting on the bandage on the back of her head.
"It's nothing- just a scratch" the demon watched her sister and the rest of the family approaching. She felt warm inside, not just from the fever symptoms. "Do we have anything to eat?" her stomach making a loud groaning sound.
"Hey Malinka!" her sister joining the hug, Zdrada was followed by Azazel, Modeus, Pandemonica, Justice, and Cerberus who all came to greet the demon. All of them expressing their concerns asking all the questions they had. Judgement and Beelzebub were strangely absent.
Before they could distract him and while they were distracted by Malina's injury the Helltaker took the lawyer aggressively by the arm and lead him outside, through the kitchen and onto the gravel backyard.
"What ever is the matter?!" the demon was not comfortable being man-handled, slightly panicking. "Where are we going?!".
"We are just going to have a little chat...you and I" the man was in no mood for games or riddles, he wanted answers.
The devil watched the man escort her lawyer outside, thinking better of it than going after them. He probably has alot of questions she thought.
"Where is he?" Beelzebub came a second too late, the demon hearing the family welcoming Malina and Helltaker back.
"He's gone outside for some air, I hope he comes back with my lawyer...in one piece" the devil smirked, it hadn't been the greeting she had wanted but she knew he would be like this; confused and angry.
"Let him be, he needs to vent" she had said to her demons, "Come on let's get you some food dear" she now spoke to her adopted daughter, leading Malina to the kitchen, the rest of the family following.
"About fucking time, someone grab me a bottle".
"No more bullshit Damien or Dagar, whatever the fuck your name is. Tell me who you are!" the human shouted at the smaller grey demon.
"Alright, alright! I'll tell you" the demon was never a fighter, he would rather use his words rather than his fists. The demon straightened his suit with his one free hand.
"I am a demon f-"
"Yeah, tell me something I don't know!".
"I am Dagon the Second, Hell's best lawyer, fourth in America according to Best Lawyers Business Edition" he smirked at this brag about his own reputation. The man loved hearing people sing his praise.
"Keep talking...as much as I don't want you to".
"Lucifer has employed me to guarantee your innocence in court within two days time, both she and I want to see that your little harem arrangement here remains permanent and undisturbed" he spoke truthfully.
"So Amy didn't send for you?" the Helltaker knew that wasn't true from the very beginning.
"Who is Amy?" Dagon asked, a confused look on his face.
"I asked my friend in the force for another lawyer, I thought she had called you in...I knew it was too good to be true" the Helltaker had been maintaining a firm grip on the lawyer's arm but now he had released him. The grey demon again straightening parts of outfit, removing any creases.
"How did you arrange 'special help' for Malina? How did no one notice she was a demon?" he bombarded the grey demon with another question.
"I was able to manifest a special pocket dimension that merged onto the infirmary, a few demons disguised as medics and bob's your uncle. It came with a deterrent don't worry; makes humans lose their memory temporarily" he was ready for the Helltaker's question this time.
"How was I abl-" the human began.
"I made an exception for you" Dagon finished his thought off.
"But wait, surely the riot control saw Malina slip and transform back into a demon as she was bleeding- I saw them standing over her, talking into their radios" this tainted, blurry memory that only happened a few hours ago was painful to conjure, coming back to him so soon was just as agonising
"Nothing a simple touch of selective amnesia can't fix, you worry too much. I promise you; everything has been concealed in a harmless manner, you have my word" Dagon spoke truthfully, even faking a smile.
At last the tensions that had been building were released from within the human's mind and body, for the first time today he relaxed.
"I'm sorry for the interrogation, I'm not sorry" the Helltaker turned around and grabbed his brow. Sighing intensely, he was very embarrassed by how he had been acting today. This day has been a fucking nightmare...it couldn't get any worse he thought.
Right?
...
. . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
"No need to apologise, an ally of Lucifer is an ally of mine, I am at your command" the lawyer said through gritted teeth.
"Then why all the secrecy earlier? Why the charade when we first met?".
"My friend, do you know nothing about hiding in plain sight? I've been informed of the fragility of your situation, we need absolute secrecy at this moment" the lawyer crossed his arms. "I couldn't reveal anything related to my true identity and occupation to you in a fucking police station could I?" the demon was right.
"I- you are one of America's best lawyers, yet you are a demon..." he couldn't believe it, Lucy had been lying to him about the positions of power demons had on the surface. Were there more like Dagon?
"Jesus, this- this changes everything. There are demons hidden amoungst us aren't there? Frighteningly more than I thought?" he wanted an honest answer rather than the sugarcoated lies he you would usually get from his demons.
"More than you can imagine, but of course I cannot reveal such a sensitive secret without the authorisation of the Queen herself" the demon finally looked at his surroundings. He gazed at the view of the ocean, then up at the big house, taking a guess at how many bedrooms and bathrooms it has.
"Nice place human, I was imagining much worse" he took a step away from the house to gain a better look at beach below, glancing over a small metal railing.
"Yeah, yeah sure buddy" the Helltaker honestly had enough of today, he just wanted to rest.
He would receive none yet.
"So what's next? What's our plan?" he called to Dagon, he wanted to keep his lawyer focussed rather than having him admire his home. The human stretched briefly but stopped due to how painful his arm and back were, both still throbbed despite the medicine he took earlier. This was going to take some getting used to; pain whenever he sat down or used his arm.
"Over the next two days we will be practicing your's and Malina's performance, we will be shaping you into the purest, innocent souls" the lawyer walked back and stood next to the Helltaker, both of them now poised to return back into the house. The demon smiled at the human, checking his smart watch again. "We have much work to do!" he said enthusiastically.
"Performance...ha. Well, with 'Hell's best lawyer' how could we lose?" he replied sarcastically. The human turned around, going to open the back door, Dagon was closely following him back into the house.
"That's the spirit! Once we have gathered all the evidence we need I can form a game plan. We will definately need one for what I believe they will throw at u-" the demon was cut short as he narrowly avoided being crushed by the human's huge body.
All of a sudden the back door flung open and it hit the Helltaker badly in the side of his head, he had been turning his head to the side to listen to Dagon. As the human was about to reach for the handle the small white door had been kicked open violently, the human was going to be first one to re-enter his house, but instead received a face full of door.
He stumbled backwards on the stone steps and almost fell back onto his lawyer, the smaller demon equally as confused.
"What th-" the human was dazed, trying to maintain his balance, unaware of the new attacker approaching.
"You fucking scumbag, I knew you had been having your way with them up here!" a swift kick was delivered to his chest and it sent him flying backwards onto the gravel, hitting his head badly. Dagon luckily had moved out of the way, stepping to the side.
The Helltaker reeled from his meeting with the floor and finally looked up to see his attacker, it was a friend.
"Behemoth! Stop this at once!" Judgement was instantly inbetween the two, using her body to block him from launching any more attacks.
"Gah- what's going on?!" the Helltaker was already concussed, still dazed and stunned from the first attack, he was not expecting this...at all. Looking up off of the floor, he gave puzzled glances to the two demons.
"You are a sick man, you've been taking advantage of them! Judgement told me!" the man tried to reach the Helltaker but Judgement prevented him from doing so, shoving him backwards...hard. The huge man stumbling backwards hitting the door, almost falling through it before regaining his balance, readying to attack again.
"He hasn't been taking advantage of anyone!" Judgement was almost screaming. "How many times have I told you...WE WERE ALL HERE WILLINGLY!" she exploded. The Helltaker was now kneeling, trying to stand. His head throbbed, it was even worse than before, blood tricking down the back of his neck.
"Behemoth..." he took a breath of fresh air, exhaling quickly, dabbing the back of his head, looking down at the small amount of blood on his fingers. "Fuck off...honestly I have been having one hell of a day. I can't be bothered to deal with your jealousy right now".
"You fucking piece of shit, you think I'm jealous of you?!" the giant bulldozer of a man now violently shoved his friend to the side, lunging for the human after. Judgement was originally holding back, she didn't want to hurt her friend but this push had caught her off-guard and had caused her to end up on the gravel too. She too hitting her head, but not on the gravel, on the metal weights.
The Helltaker quick stepped backwards, making sure to maintain a distance between himself and the giant demon. He wasn't going to win this one, that was for sure. He was already injured, he wouldn't be able to take much more.
"Isn't it obvious? I've seen the way you have been looking at Judgement, is someone in love?" he taunted, knowing now that rage was overwhelming both of them.
"FUCK YOU!" the demon again lunged towards him, the giant's speed surprising everyone he fought, his hulking frame shouldn't allow him to move so fast. Dagon simply stood frozen, idle, he could not do anything to help. Fear and self-preservation kicked in.
This time the Helltaker ducked to avoid a punch that would have more than certainly broken his nose. The demon however had anticipated this dodge and delivered a quick knee to his chest, knocking the wind out of him.
The human was again dazed, his body crumpling in on itself before Behemoth's grey fists came down on the back of his shoulders sending him to the floor. Then grabbing him by the skin of his neck and the back of his red tank-top he lifted the human up just to throw his body a small distance nearer to the cliffside. The Helltaker rolling slightly before coming to a stop and laying on his back.
The demon saw red, he was out for blood, human blood. He could easily destroy him if he wanted, for now he would only punish...just like the High Prosecutor.
"You are disgusting, I thought this harem was strange when I first heard about it. Now I know you have been fucking each and every one of them. ABUSING THEM!" Behemoth wasn't even sweating, he slowly came over to the injured Helltaker. Locking onto his prey.
"That's not true" the Helltaker spat blood after speaking, he heard rapidly approaching footsteps crunching the gravel, anticipating another blow from Behemoth. However none came, he looked up and saw Judgement screamingly wildly tackling the huge demon to floor, her strength equal to his.
"STOP THIS NOW!" she pinned her colleague using her strong thighs and keeping his wrists in place.
The High Prosecutor had regained her abilities again and now manifested four white chains to wrap around his body, trapping his arms tightly to his chest, keeping him immobile. She didn't want to do this.
"Judgement please, I don't want to hurt you" the huge demon pleaded, but he was soaking up the burning pain the chains were inflicting upon him. He didn't feel anything, he was hurting in a different way...
"I DON'T WANT TO HURT YOU EITHER, BUT YOU ARE MAKING THIS VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME!" she was still using all of her might to keep the demon pinned, he was struggling with all his might to break free. She tightened the chains, the demon not flinching as this searing pain intensified.
She delivered a flurry of punches with her petite grey hands, bludgeoning him rapidly, trying her best to subdue this giant brute, it having little effect. All it did was cause a slight nosebleed. She realised this and stopped, keeping her fist raised slightly away from his face. The demon decided to hold off from manifesting her gauntlets...for now.
"Don't make me do this" her normal soft voice returned, the maniacal shrieking stopping for just a moment. Receiving no reply Judgement turned back to look at the house, why hadn't anyone else come outside yet? Hadn't they heard the commotion? The High Prosecutor knew she couldn't restrain Behemoth by herself...without killing him.
Her gaze then went to the Helltaker who was still laying on the gravel, trying to sit himself up but being unable to do so, his right arm faltering whenever he used it to support himself, his back would not listen to him. He was in pure agony. Judgement's stomach churned upon seeing him injured again, he had just been in a coma for Christ sake! She felt physically ill, the man had endured so much already, now someone was trying to kill him...again.
"Hey...are you-" the demon's voice broke but she wasn't speaking for long.
The Devil's Right Hand...Lucifer's Iron Fist...Judgement was hurt...badly.
She let her guard down...something a Prosecutor should NEVER do...
She was brought incredibly close to unconsciousness; as she had looked over at him, Behemoth was the one to take advantage of her during this moment of weakness. Judgement had left him enough room to allow him to slam his forehead into Judgement's brow. His horn also grazing her forehead terribly, a huge gouge on the grey flesh opened, black demon blood poured down her face.
Again Behemoth had inflicted a broken nose...and worse upon Judgement, the same maneuver he had used in Hell.
The demon was sent flying off of her friend, Judgement had tried to stand but fell backwards instead, her head crashing against the surface of pebbles again, black blood gushing from her nose, mouth and forehead.
Behemoth clenched his muscles and threw his arms to the side, the pure size of his biceps, triceps and pectorals caused the white chains to snap, the objects demanifesting after they were destroyed.
"I'm sorry J" he went from laying, to kneeling and then stood in a matter of seconds, spitting on the ground before looking over sadly at his injured friend.
"Gahhh-" the prosecutor gasped weakly as she was left seeing stars, she wasn't able to comprehend the fact that her friend would hurt her in such a way. Her nose was broken into a deformed, hideous angle, her own blood flooding her mouth and dribbling down her chest.
Now the male demon's white eyes focussed on the human, the man still reeling from the first flurry of attacks. The Helltaker watched as the demon approached, but he did not flee.
"Finished beating up your girlfriend?" he smirked, red blood coating his teeth and lips.
"Get up" the demon grabbed him by his collarbone, lifting the man up by one hand, helping him stand, just to strike him in his ribs.
For the fourth time today, the wind was knocked out of him, he was left struggling for breath.
"Judgement told me...she told me what you did that night when she was drunk" jealousy dripping off of his every word.
The Helltaker chose not to reply, simply trying his best to jab the demon with an upper-cut to the face. It successfully landed, but had little effect on the superior being, the demon not reacting in the slightest.
The human received the same attack, causing him to bite his tongue...badly. Practically collapsing backwards again, falling onto his ass.
"She told me what you did with Malina- what a sick, sick thing to do. You treat her like your daughter?" the demon delivered a kick to the Helltaker's head, this attack rendering him partially unconscious. He lay prone on the gravel, his eyes barely open to see his attacker stood over him.
"You're not even going to defend yourself" another kick was delivered to his ribs, Behemoth almost felt bad when he heard the crack. The two were now close to the edge of the cliff, next to the rusted railing that overlooked the sea. Zdrada's favourite smoking spot.
He could hear the rolling waves below his home, the inviting sound of the sea, the ambience that would put him to sleep both at night...and now.
"Judgement, stay down!" he heard Behemoth walked back over to High Prosecutor, the Helltaker didn't hear what happened next. It didn't sound pleasant.
"Please, I just- I just need to teach him a lesson-".
"I'm going to FUCKING KILL YOU!" he heard his immortal avatar of pain scream. His mind was swimming...yet despite her screams, only one thought remained now...the same thought that he dreaded for eternity. Praying it would never enter his mind.
Well...looks like this is it...
"Behemoth" he decided to try and speak out in defiance through his broken teeth. His voice was rasp, the man wheezing as he choked on his own blood and saliva, again he spat onto the floor.
"Leav- leave her out of this".
Silence.
He couldn't see where his attacker was. The Helltaker's eyes would not open, when they did he only saw the pebbles of the gravel surface.
"It's just you...an- and me", again he spat.
"That's right" the heavy footsteps were approaching again, he could tell by the way the feet sounded like they were sinking into the gravel.
"So, what are you going to do-" the Helltaker coughed, he was trying to speak without any blood interrupting him...and he was struggling incredibly. "-kill me?".
"I don't want to kill you..." the Helltaker actually sensed regret and sadness on the demon's voice, something he could use to his advantage.
He lifted his head off the gravel and looked directly in the white eyes of his attacker. Behemoth was still in his grey tanktop from this morning, the man hadn't changed from his workout gear either, how many days, weeks had he been waiting in Hell?
"What? Not man enough to finish the job?" the wheezy taunt and smirk stabbed deep into Behemoth's psyche.
For a moment Behemoth remained silent, the anger and the hate consuming him. Swallowing him whole.
"Get the fuck up" he repeated once more, again lifting the Helltaker's limp body up with one hand grasping firmly onto his neck, a show of the demon's immense strength.
But before Behemoth could attack again, he dropped the human back onto the gravel, the man not having the strength to support himself. His mind, body and soul had been exhausted today, now he was accepting his fate, but it did not come.
He opened his eyes and watched as the High Prosecutor clung to the giant demon's back, taking large chunks out of him, his grey flesh being flayed with her gauntlets, the man screaming in agony. Their battle raged on as the Helltaker went in and out of consciousness, trying his best to stand. To fight.
Judgement needs you! his mind screamed, but his body would not listen.
"YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD!" a war-cry shook his eardrums, the sounds of gravel being churned and thrown around his backyard. Judgement was partially steering Behemoth as she tore his upper body apart, he was scrambling to grab a hold of the warrior on top of him.
The giant then crashed against the fragile railing, staggering away from it as Judgement fought to maintain her hold on his back. This impact caused the single metal pole to be crushed, snapping in two, the rusted metal having no structural integrity. Half of the railing fell away while the other jagged half remained pointed outwards.
"JUDGEMENT, GAHH- STOP!" the large grey demon was staggering about the place, trying his best to wrench the High Prosecutor off of his back.
At the very last moment, the Helltaker was on his side looking at the end of the fight, able to keep his eyes open for just long enough.
Judgement was aiming for his vital organs, ripping and tearing at his neck and face, horribly deforming the once immaculate grey demon's muscular body. However, as Judgement was winning, Behemoth finally got a hold of her, grabbing her by the shoulder and throwing her off of his back.
The demon was thrown with such force that she became impaled on what remained of the railing, the sharp metal going straight through her stomach. Once it was inside of her, she thrashed violently in a panic to escape, causing the pole to snap off of it's supports that were embedded in the ground. Shocked and profusely bleeding the demon gripped the pipe within her, trying her best to remove it.
However, she would have been fine if she hadn't allowed her emotions to cloud her final seconds of judgement, as she looked one last time at the Helltaker's limp body the two making eye contact. She had lost.
Her balance became unsteady, her eyes unmoving, those grey legs buckling.
She...had...lost.
Judgement tried again steadying herself, but it was too late...she stumbled backwards, falling off of the cliffside entirely. A shear drop to the rocky surface below.
The High Prosecutor disappeared from sight...

. . .
. . . . . . . . . .
His heart shattered...again...
The second time today.
"Judgement..." he muttered, burying his face into the gravel.
God no...This wasn't happening...This was all just a bad dream...
"I- I what, we were just-" he heard Behemoth say. The demon was applying pressure to his wounds, he too was losing blood terribly fast.
The footsteps were staggering back over to him.
"THIS WAS YOUR FAULT" the giant grey hands were on him again.
Well, looks like this is it...
"YOU DID THIS, YOU-" although he couldn't see, he could hear the panic in Behemoth's voice, the irrational judgement coming into play.
Both of the giant hands were now around his throat, the demon's strength would soon crush his windpipe and suffocate him, he was surprised that Behemoth didn't just snap his neck.
He could feel his legs searching for support, struggling to find the ground, dangling hopelessly, the demon had lifted him completely into the air, a height of more than seven feet.
"B-b-be-be-he-mo-t-" he managed to get out as the last of his oxygen escaped him.
"WHAT?!" the demon screamed with rage and fury, the same fury in Judgement's eyes.
...
The same fury he imagined were in Justice's eyes during her battle with Beelzebub.
. . . .
The same fury he knew were in Zdrada's eyes when she defeated her sister in the arena time...after...time.
. . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . .
The same fury he knew...was hidden...deep within...Lucifer
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . .
. . . .
The...same...fury...he..had...when-

When...

"I'll...se-se-see..yo-you in H-ell".
