Chapter 33: What the Fuck?
Watching Shikara use him as a distraction and then cut those men down without hesitation was something Itachi never thought he would witness from her. He wouldn't let her see the shock that he felt as she took her target's head and made her way slowly to the exit. And as she gave him a sideways glance and a smirk of pure evil...he realized that she was slowly being possessed by the darkness inside her. He had to figure out how to stop her but he was already preparing for his own mission...to capture the Kyuubi. Itachi knew he had to complete that mission first and then he would figure out what to do with her.
...
I made my way to the apartment and changed into my shinobi outfit and wrapped Shuji's head in my bloody clothes, then placed it in a separate bag. I would turn it in to the bounty station and get as far away as possible.
As soon as I was ready I bolted out. It took me a few hours to get to the station and once again I saw the men in their long black coats with red clouds. They were coming out as I was going in.
"Well, well...look who it is." The silver haired man said.
I paused, looking up at him. He was in my way. "Excuse me." My voice was flat. He stepped aside and let me through. Him and his companion eyed me as I went.
"I'd like to show her pain." I heard that man's voice say behind me. It sent a shiver up my spine. Oddly it wasn't of fear...it was excitement. My inner darker self begged for him to try. I had recognized them from the bingo books before and his threat gave me an itch to challenge him...just not today.
When I turned in the head of Shuji and received my massive payout, the examiner looked me in the eyes. "It may be wise for you to slow down for a while, Angel."
"Oh?" His statement peeked my curiosity. "Why is that?"
"You're attracting too much attention to yourself. Unwanted attention."
I smirked. "I'll take note of your advice." I said before turning away to leave. I could feel his eyes on me and it should have made me take his warning seriously...but I didn't. It was like all my fear had been erased.
The following day I found myself rummaging through my bag, looking for something that I kept to remind me of who I am...or at least who I thought I was. A sigh left my lips, realizing that it was left at the apartment in Tanzaku Town. Being in a rush to complete the assassination on Shuji made me forget my snowflake hair pin that Itachi and Sasuke gave me years ago. I would have to retrieve it but I had to be careful and disguise myself. I made quite the scene when I was there and there were a lot of people who would recognize my real face...
When I finally arrived in Tanzaku, I used a transformation jutsu to disguise myself as an attractive young woman, wearing a short, strapless, violet romper with black heels, my hair was now straight and black and my eyes were a dark grey. I should have picked something else because I was drawing more attention than I was comfortable with. I entered the apartment. It had been untouched. I had thought that I'd be hunted down but maybe Shuji's death, along with his lackeys and idiot offspring was taken as a blessing.
I went to the dresser and opened the drawer where I expected to see the hair pin but instead there was a note.
Shikara,
Lose something? If you wish to see it again, come find me.
-I
My face dropped as I stared at the note. Damn it, ...Itachi... I pondered on whether or not this was now a lost cause. Why would I go search for him to give me something he gave as a gift in the first place!? Wait...what was he doing in my apartment? My eyes narrowed. He's definitely up to something.
I walked out into the road and decided to have a look around. As I came around a corner, a small rock randomly crossed my path. I looked up and it was a blur from there...
When I came to I was in a hallway with a white haired man, known as Jariya - the toad sage, a young blonde kid and Itachi holding Sasuke against a wall with his freaky companion holding Jariya back from interfering.
What...the...fuck...? Did Itachi use his genjutsu on me!? I didn't even want to know what happened in the time frame that I had no control of myself, I was just glad that my disguise somehow held up even when I passed out. I was hardly able to stand while everyone was distracted and attempted to make my escape. I wasn't about to make a surprise appearance here. Oh god...was I drinking? There was a heavy alcohol taste in my mouth and my breath reeked of it. I almost tumbled down the stairs and when I got outside I had to use the wall as support. I looked up in time to hear an explosion, black fire and Itachi with the other guy make their escape.
Seriously? What the hell is going on? Did he hurt Sasu-kun? I felt a drunken rage coming on, thinking about what I saw and decided to go after Itachi. I'm going to give that jerk a piece of my mind!
I kept myself hidden when they finally came to a stop to rest. They were talking about something so this was my chance! I got the drop in on Itachi and pinned him down, straddling his stomach and holding a kunai to his throat. For the first time he actually looked surprised.
"Woah! Isn't that the girl you used your genjutsu on, Itachi?" I heard sharky say.
Itachi's eyes never left mine while I bent down closer. "If I ever see you lay a hand on Sasu-kun again and before he's ready for a fair fight, I'll end this myself." I growled at him. Suddenly the drunken state I was in worsened and Itachi easily threw me off. My disguise came to an end and my true identity was revealed. Shit, I'm wasted. I was barely able to take hold of a nearby tree before I would fall.
"How...interesting..." said shark man.
Itachi stood up, his surprised expression turned very cold. "What are you doing here?"
He looked like he was ready to kill me and a shiver ran up my spine. I courageously held out my hand after steadying myself. "I want it back."
Shark man was taking turns glancing between the two of us in confusion. "Itachi, who is she?"
"She's...a pain..." Itachi replied before standing fully and taking a few steps towards me. He took my hair pin out of the pocket under his coat and held it up. "Why do you want this?"
I glared at him. "It..." my expression softened as I thought about my next words. "It reminds me of who I am...and who I want to be."
Itachi was looking into my eyes, still with a cold expression. "Who do you want to be?"
I was having trouble standing upright. How much did I drink? I refocused after sliding down and sitting on my knees. "I...just want to be me...again."
Itachi turned to sharky. "Kisame...I will catch up with you...I have to deal with her...alone."
Kisame gave a look...a permiscuous look and I slurred a retort, "Don't get anneh ideas, big boyee."
Kisame chuckled before turning away to leave. "If you need help putting her out of her misery, let me know."
Itachi waited a few moments before walking a few steps closer and crouching down before me. My vision was blurred so I was squinting at him, both hands planted on the ground to keep myself from falling over.
"Sersly, did yew relly use gejusu on meh?" I knew I sounded pathetic and my face was all red.
A slight smirk appeared across Itachi's lips. "Did you have fun?"
I tried to glare at him. I couldn't tell if it was successful because my face was numb. "I fink I drunk a whole bear... I men...bar..." I shook my head as if it would help. It didn't.
The amusement on his face deepened. "Payback is a pain, isn't it?" His eyes narrowed. "I'm sure you won't think about using me as a distraction again after this."
The annoyance I felt helped me sober up a little. "You're cold, Itachi. Very, very cold. And rude. I didn't use genjutsu on you."
Itachi leaned a little closer, "So...how do you intend to end this yourself, hm?" His cocky attitude was riding on my nerves. "You're so drunk, if I had any interest in killing you, I could have."
"Hurt Sasu-kun again and you'll find out." My confidence was fake and Itachi saw through it.
He stood and tossed the hairpin on the ground in front of me with another annoying smirk. "Come find me when you're sober." He turned away and disappeared into the forest.
