"We may have to bring the Mastiff's to a vet soon."
Kira's statement made Mencheres pause next to her, both of them situated in the garden with Justice perched in his lap. Turning to her, one of his brows raised as concern clouded his eyes. "Why?"
Instead of answering vocally, she gently carded through Justice's fur and pulled a tiny bug off of her. Handing it over, she watched as Mencheres scowled down at the flea. "I noticed one or two on the others but where's there's a few of them, there's soon to be a lot. I'd prefer to get it under control before it becomes an actual infestation."
He didn't argue, instead calling over one of the older Mastiff's to lay in his lap so he could examine his fur. After a moment, he shook his head. "It appears it's too late for that, there are bites covering his skin."
Looking over Mencheres's shoulder, she winced in sympathy at the many tiny red circles along his stomach. Stroking it gently, she sighed. "Poor baby. We're definitely going to need to get them to a vet."
Not wanting to waste a moment, Mencheres stood while offering his hand down to her. "I'll have one phoned now along with an exterminator. They haven't left the premises in months, thus the fleas must have come from something here. If we want to be rid of them it is important to get all of them."
Kira nodded, taking his hand as they moved toward the house with both dogs following them. "I'll research what kind of things we can get for repellant from now on, I heard that Mastiff's are prone to allergies and it wouldn't surprise me if they're already reacting to the bites. I don't want them hurting in the future because they picked up a few hitch hikers."
Mencheres left a kiss on her temple, "Good idea, tell me what you find after I return. I will bring a vet here within the day, there are too many Mastiff's to feasibly bring all of them to veterinary office."
She hadn't thought of that, but it made sense. After a final kiss, he set off with a determined gate to his walk. Turning her attention to the dogs now staring at her imploringly, she focused on her own task. "Alright you two, let's see what we can find."
It was a few days later when Mencheres went in search of Kira, her absence throughout the past few days confusing him. The few times he'd seen her she'd been running off somewhere, though she didn't stay long enough for him to ask about her sudden business.
Thankfully the vet had given the Mastiffs a flea medicine that appeared to be working, the previous angry red spots disappearing as if they were never there. With that worry gone, Mencheres was free to focus on his wife's odd behavior lately.
As far as he was aware there shouldn't have been anything to cause it, but there was an easy way to find out what was occupying her mind. He would ask her, just as soon as he'd found her that was…
Having checked nearly every other room in the house, he made his way toward the garden. Sure enough, after he turned the corner he saw her sitting amongst the Mastiffs who were all vying for her lap.
Chuckling, he ordered them to move, which they did with obvious reluctance. Once he came closer he noticed something different. Pausing, he knelt to examine the sweater Justice was wearing. Glancing over to Kira, he questioned. "Did you buy this? It's quite well made. We could get some for the others, since Justice is obviously enjoying it."
Kira ducked her head, to his confusion. "Actually I didn't buy it anywhere. I made it."
Taking another look at the sweater, Mencheres smiled. "You're quite skilled at this, I couldn't even tell it was homemade."
If she'd still been human she would've flushed, as it stood she gave him a sheepish smile. "Thanks, I was actually thinking of making more. Maybe ones that match for each of them?"
He only had to imagine it for a moment before he nodded in agreement. "That would be acceptable." He paused to stand and offer her a hand up. "Shall we head inside? I'll have someone bring more of any material you need."
Kira grinned, happily following as the Mastiffs trotted behind them. "I actually have a few designs picked out, I'll show you when we get inside…"
It only took her a week to complete all the sweaters, with an additional one thrown in at the last minute. She couldn't wait to hear what Mencheres thought, she knew that he could buy anything he wanted but had he ever had someone make him something? She doubted it.
As if in response to her thoughts, her husband breezed through the doors to their home. The second he noticed her, he opened his arms for their customary greeting. Once she pulled back, fighting the urge to sink into him every second as she did, she tugged him toward their room where the surprise awaited him.
"I have something to show you!" Mencheres followed without complaint, happy to see his dark lady so joyous. He already knew what she was pulling him toward was the sweaters but anything that made her this excited was perfectly fine by him.
However once they reached the room he saw something completely unexpected. All the Mastiffs were gathered around the bed, the matching red sweaters looking charming on them but what held his attention was the human shaped one lying on the bed.
Moving to pick it up, pausing briefly to pat each of the dog's heads, he held it up to his torso experimentally. She'd managed to make it perfectly to his size.
Turning to her, he noted the nerves practically oozing off her. Smiling to relieve her of them, he tugged her into a kiss of gratitude. "Thank you, I adore this and will try it on post haste."
As he changed his shirt for the sweater, he marveled at how form fitting it was. Generally he chose slightly looser clothes due to comfort, but the fabric was so unbelievably soft that he found himself purposefully brushing his hands down the sides.
"It's very comfortable, quite possibly one of my favorite pieces of clothing."
Kira relaxed, happy to hear he enjoyed it so much. "I wasn't sure if you'd like it since you can have anything you want made for you. I'm glad you do though."
He paused to bend her backwards in a kiss, "I could, but this is more precious than anything that can be bought. It was made by my beloved wife for me specifically. I will be sure to wear it whenever we go out."
Before she could tell him that he didn't have to wear it all the time, he scooped her legs out from under her and dropped her onto the bed. "Now, how about I show my appreciation for this wonderful gift?"
As he shooed the disappointed Mastiffs out, she decided to tell him that later. If he wanted to show his appreciation it would be rude to interrupt him after all…
