Finn and I walk around the y'all fire pit to see Clarke and Lincoln getting off the horse. Clarke sees us and sprints toward us like a bat out of hell. She throws her arms around Finn and I look down and smile subtly.
"Oh my God," she whispers through sobs over and over.
"Hey princess I'm not dead either," I say jokingly.
She lets go of Finn and I can tell she's slightly embarrassed because her face burns bright red. She smiles warmly at me before running at me and throwing her arms around me. I grunt quietly as her momentum and impact slightly knocks the wind out of me, but I return the hug. Once we separate from our hug, Lincoln walks up to me and holds out my sword.
"Almost forgot this," he says smiling.
"Thanks," I say and we shake forearms.
"It's great to see you again buddy," I say.
He nods.
"I don't understand, how—" Clarke whispers in awe.
Lincoln takes off his mask and shows his face.
"Lincoln saved our lives. He killed one of his own people to do it," I answer.
Clarke walks up slowly to Lincoln.
"Signal fire? That was you?" Clarke asks.
"We needed a distraction," Lincoln answers not even looking at Clarke.
"I'd say it worked," Finn says.
"Well we weren't chased, so yeah," I reply.
"Not well enough," Lincoln says with dread.
"What's it mean?" Finn asks.
"It means Anya knows Clarke's not dead," Lincoln answers.
"We need to hurry," Lincoln follows up before whipping the horse which runs away.
"Let's hope they follow the horse," Lincoln says.
"What do we do now?!" Finn calls out.
"Now we run," Lincoln answers.
"Cmon," I say and we follow Lincoln.
We run for a while until we come across a cave.
"Where are we going?" Finn calls out,
"Someplace they won't follow," Lincoln answers.
We follow Lincoln who is running toward a mountain.
"Come on. It's right up here," Lincoln says.
"What is?" Finn asks.
"Just run," I say and we make it to come tunnel.
"Where does it lead?" Clarke asks out of breath.
"Everywhere. There's a tunnel to your camp. If we get through, we should make it there before Tristan," Lincoln says.
"Who is Tristan?" I ask.
"He's a general of our army. He's bloodthirsty and cruel," Lincoln says.
"I thought Anya was in charge," I say in disbelief.
"She was, but the commander sent Tristan to lead the attack and knowing him, he will leave no survivors," Lincoln replies.
We hear horses and turn around to see torches in the distance.
"Go. Go!" Lincoln says with urgency.
We run in the cave, but Lincoln hesitates and for the first time I see an expression on his face. Fear.
"Lincoln what are you doing?! Cmon!" I say.
He finally runs in behind us.
We run for a while. It's completely dark, but we just run straight. Eventually, we stop and Lincoln strikes a match and lights a torch.
"You were right. They didn't follow us," Finn says panting.
"Reapers use these tunnels. Tristan wouldn't risk running into them," Lincoln says looking around warily.
"What hell hell is a reaper?" Finn says suddenly freaked out.
"Pray you never find out," Lincoln says with fear in his voice.
"If your afraid of them, then it's probably something right out of hell," I say to Lincoln.
"Not far from that," Lincoln answers.
"We have to keep moving," Lincoln says, but grunts when he gets up.
I see an arrow sticking out of his back.
"Lincoln your hit!" Finn says.
"Let me take a look at that," Clarke requests as she moves to check the wound.
"I've fought battles with worse wounds than this," Lincoln says.
"We're not in a battle right now," Clarke says softly
Lincoln sighs and says "Yes we are."
"Well guess it's my turn to pull the arrow out," I say smirking.
"Robby," Clarke hisses angrily.
"Why are you helping us?" Clarke asks.
"This cant just be about Robby and Octavia," Finn says.
"He has a conscience. That's why," I say defending Lincoln.
"Fine. Don't tell us. Give me your knife," she says to Lincoln and he obliges.
"Heat up the blade," Clarke orders Finn and he moves to do so.
"Pull it out," Lincoln says to me.
"Ok," I say and yank the arrow out.
Lincoln hisses in pain.
"Sucks doesn't it," I say smirking and pat Lincoln's shoulder.
"You might want something to bite down on," Clarke says.
Lincoln scoffs.
"You people are so soft," Lincoln says shaking his head.
"If you don't learn to me more—" Clarke says then sticks the hot blade on his wound, cauterizing it.
"What my people are doing to yours is wrong," Lincoln says after Clarke finishes cauterizing his wound.
We continue to walk through the cave. Bats are flying around and it's becoming a maze.
"Yes," Lincoln whispers as his face lights up.
He opens the sketchbook Octavia returned when we said what we thought was goodbye.
"If you've never been here, how did you map it?" Finn asks.
"Spoils of war," Lincoln answers.
"Wait," I say as I start hearing cheers and hollers coming from another part of the cave.
Everyone stops and Lincoln puts his arm out to stop us from going further.
"What is that?" Clarke asks in fear.
Lincoln pauses and answers "reapers,"
"Guess our prayers weren't answered," I whisper as my blood runs cold.
Lincoln snatches the torch from my hand and extinguishes it quickly. We slowly walk toward the reapers.
"This can't be the only way. Check the map," Finn says.
"If you wanna get home before Tristan slaughters your people this is the only way," Lincoln says.
"I'm gonna kill him. Then the bitch Anya," I say as I start getting angry thinking about the grounders storming our camp and killing us all.
"Shut up," Finn whispers to me trying to get me to stay quiet and not because what I said was ridiculous.
I dig my fingernails into my palms.
"Even with my training, your no match for either of them. At least not yet," Lincoln says.
I sigh in frustration at how unmatched we are compared to the grounders. We peak our heads to see reapers running around and hacking some human body. They're whooping and hollering as the hack away at the body. Then they start doing eating the body which makes me gasp. They rip away the flesh with fingernails and teeth.
"Guys," Finn says.
Clarke and I turn our heads to look at him.
"The carts," Finn says.
We gaze at the carts which have plastic and bodies in them. We see legs and arms draped over the carts.
"What the hell is this?" Clarke says in horror.
"Cannibal grounders," I answer not exactly sure what this is.
All I know is that this is utterly horrifying.
We watch for a while trying to figure out what to do.
"So grounders that want our heads for no apparent reason and now crazy cannibal cavemen. What's worse than that?" I say hysterically.
"This is serious Robby," Clarke says.
"The mountain men," Lincoln answers.
"The tunnel on the right will lead you into the woods near your camp," Lincoln says pointing to a tunnel that the reapers are blocking.
He hands me the sketchbook to use as a map.
"Lincoln, your not about to do what I think your gonna," I say warningly.
"I'm gonna lead them away. Wait until the follow me. Then run," Lincoln says confirming my suspicion.
"They'll kill you we—" I start saying.
"I know my way out. Don't worry about me. Get back to her," Lincoln says cutting me off.
"Alright. Good luck and thank you," I say giving in.
"Worry about yourselves. Most of Tristan,s Rangers will be at your gate by nightfall. But he'll send riders ahead, scouts. All of you need to be gone before they arrive. Tell your people to flee east toward the sea. There is a clan that will take your people in and you will be safe. They are led by a woman named Luna, a friend. Tell her I sent you. If you get back and it's too late, then remember your training. Show no mercy," Lincoln says.
"I will," I say and we shake forearms.
"Give Octavia this. She has earned one also," Lincoln says giving me his sword.
"Thank you," Finn says.
"Just get Octavia and yourself out of there," Lincoln demands.
I nod and he stands up with a look of determination. He slits the throat of the reaper that was walking toward us. He then stops as the reapers go quiet and stare at Lincoln. The start chasing him while hooting and hollering and he takes off.
"We have to move, now," I say once they disappear.
"Alright let's go," Finn says quickly and we get up.
Clarke stops to examine the cart.
"Oh my God. Did you see that?" Clarke says in shock.
"Clarke, we need to keep moving," Finn says.
She lifts the tarp and I see a sight that makes me gasp. A man who is barely alive and complete skin and bones is reaching out and gasping for air. He looks like he's been through hell and he's knocking on death's door. I'm afraid the door will he answered very soon.
"Oh, my God. He's alive," Clarke gasps.
I hear someone growling and I turn to see a reaper foaming at the mouth as he heads for Clarke.
"Clarke, look out!" Finn says as he tries to fight off the reaper only to get thrown away. I draw my sword and charge the reaper. He begins slash wildly at me with his axe. I dodge the first two slashes. I drop and kick his knee and it bends backward. He acts like he doesn't even feel it and begins limping as his broken leg cracks and pops with nauseating sounds. I slash his throat and he chokes before falling dead on the floor.
"They're coming back," Clarke says as we hear the shouting again.
I walk up to the dying man.
"Yo gonplei ste odum," I say the stab him in the heart.
He goes quiet almost instantly and there is nearly no blood.
"Get up, get up," Clarke says to Finn who is slowly getting up.
"Finny, I'll drag you by your hair because we gotta go!" I say with a sense of urgency as the shouts grow closer.
We run like bats out of hell. I realize that we literally are running out of hell the more I think about it. We finally make it out and I've never been so happy to see the sun and the trees besides the day we landed. We take off toward our camp, but Finn stops.
"This doesn't look right," Finn says stopping.
"What the hell was that back there?" Clare says panting.
"It doesn't matter anymore. We need to get back and warn the others!" I say flipping furiously through the book.
"I swear the more we learn about this place, the less we know," Clarke says shaking her head.
"Maybe it's for the best," I say quickly.
Finn goes and kneels by the creek and washes the few droplets of blood off his hands from when I slashed the reaper's throat and the blood splattered all over him. I look down at mine which are covered in blood. Clarke crouches next to him and they're in the middle of a conversation. I decide to focus on getting us home. I hope Finn took my advice.
The only thing I hear is Finn saying "I love you... I'm in love with you."
I don't know how to respond so I don't. I act like I didn't hear it.
"You broke my heart," Clarke simply says in a broken voice.
Whatever she mutters next I don't hear.
"Whatever conversation this is, it can continue on the way out of camp with the others! We have to go now!" I say loudly.
They start getting up when a loud explosion rings in the direction of our camp.
"Oh shit," I say in shock.
"It came from the camp," Finn says.
"We're to late," Clarke says scared.
"If we follow the explosion then we can make it. Plus that was offense because the grounders don't know how to make bombs," I say.
We take off as fast as we can toward camp. As soon as we see the wall and the smoke coming from the dropship we run faster. I see Miller poking his head over the wall.
I hear him shout "wait! Hold your fire! It's Clarke, Robby, and Finn! Open the gate!"
The gate opens and we run in as fast as we can.
"Clarke, Robby, and Finn, they're back!" Someone shouts.
"Hey we heard an explosion what happened?" Clarke asks.
"Murphy happened," Bellamy answers.
"Jesus again?!" I shout.
"Thank God," Jasper says and hugs Clarke.
"Where have y'all been? Where's Monty?" Jasper asks worried.
"Monty's gone?" I ask.
Before I know it I'm nearly tackled to the ground in a hug. I see a familiar head of black hair burying her face into my shoulder. I smile and return the hug as tightly as possible.
"I thought you were dead. "Oh my God. Oh my God," Octavia repeats over and over.
"Hey, hey, hey, look at me. I'm right here," I say gently as I tilt her head to look at me.
She's breathing in shock. I grin at her. She stares into my eyes for a second before smashing her lips against mine and kissing me fiercely over and over.
"What the hell did we miss?" I ask after we break apart.
"We need to leave. Now. There's an army of grounders unlike anything we've ever seen coming for us right now. We need to pack everything we can and run," Finn announces to the crowd.
"Like hell we do. We knew this was coming," Bellamy replies.
"Bell, we're not prepared," Octavia says.
"And they're not here yet. We still have time to get ready. Besides, where would we go? Where would we be safer than behind these walls?" Bellamy replies.
"There's an ocean to the east. Lincoln said that clan would take us in. We'll be safe," I respond.
"You saw Lincoln?" Octavia asks me.
"Guess he wasn't ready to say goodby after all," I respond.
"You expect us to trust a grounder," Bellamy says bitterly.
"Lincoln's not just any grounder. He's our friend!" I respond.
"This is our home now! We built this from nothing with our bare hands! Our dead are buried behind that wall on this ground! Our ground! The grounders think they can take that away. They think that just because we came from the sky, we don't belong here! Well they have yet to learn one very important fact! We're on the ground now! Which means WE, ARE GROUNDERS!" Bellamy yells to everyone with strength and determination like I've never seen before.
"Yeah!" People start cheering.
"Grounders with guns!" Another guy says.
"Damn right!" Bellamy responds looking at the guy.
"I say let em come!" Bellamy says throwing his arms in the air.
"Bellamy's right! If we leave, we may never find a place as safe as this! And God knows in this world, we could be faced with something even worse tomorrow! But that doesn't change the simple fact that if we stay here, we will die tonight. So pack your things! Just take what you can carry, now!" Clarke yells.
I feel a bit insecure that I can't come up with a motivational speech myself.
"You heard her, let's move!" Is all I can say, but people listen so I guess that's something.
"Where did you see him?" Octavia asks me.
"He helped us escape from the grounders. Then he ran off," I say.
"Oh yeah. Curtesy of Lincoln," I say handing her the sword.
She looks at it in awe.
"Congrats Octavia kom Skaikru. You've earned the title of warrior," I say and wink as her as she grins excitedly at me.
"Still not as cool as mine, but it's something," I joke.
She playfully punches me in the shoulder. Then gets shocked when she sees that my sword has blood on it.
"Robby, what happened?" She asks worriedly.
I suddenly get scared that she'll think I'm a monster.
"I-I had to defend myself. That's why he trained me. He was gonna kill Clarke and F—" I start saying.
She just hugs me tightly. I hug back.
"Thank you," she whispers.
"For what?" I ask quizzically.
"Not dying and coming back to me," She says.
"You can't get rid of me that easily," I joke and kiss her forehead which makes her smile.
"Help me?!" A strained voice shouts.
I see Raven limping through the gate. She's bleeding profusely and barely conscious.
"Raven!" Finn and I shout.
"Murphy shot her," Jasper says as we rush to her.
"Son of a bitch, I'll kill him!" I shout in rage.
I'm gonna ring his neck the next time I see him I swear it.
Finn goes to pick her up.
"Get her onto the dropship," Clarke orders and Finn carries her away.
"Wait!" Bellamy says stopping me and Clarke.
"Leaving here is a mistake," he says to us.
"The decisions been made," Clarke replies
"Crowds make bad decisions! Just ask Murphy. Leaders do what they think is right," Bellamy replies.
"We are. Bellamy, this is how we save our people," I say looking him in the eye with determination.
