"Well, my doctor says he or she is going to be on the smaller side," Kensi said, rubbing her surprisingly small 7 month baby bump. "But I'm not sure I believe her. One of my friend's baby was supposed to be 6 pounds and it ended up being 8."
"Did I ever tell you about when I had Martin?" Roberta asked as she cleared a tray of glasses.
"Was it a difficult birth?" Sam responded, leaning against the bar comfortably. Callen gave him an incredulous look while Kensi shook her head adamantly. Sam either didn't notice or didn't care.
"Oh, you wouldn't believe it! He was huge, 10 pounds, 3 ounces."
"That is big," Sam said sympathetically. Roberta nodded, clearly enjoying Sam's attention.
"I was in labor with him for 35 hours and when it was over I looked-"
"Oh, mom, no," Deeks interrupted, hearing the tail end as he came in from the back. "No one wants to hear my birth story." Kenos smiled at him gratefully.
"Sam does." Roberta gestured to Sam who was still looking relaxed but ever so slightly apprehensive.
"Yeah, but that's because he's drunk," Deeks said.
"I am not," Sam responded mildly, taking another sip of beer.
"Uh-huh." Deeks walked around the bar to stand next to Kensi, resting his hand on her lower back.
"And don't even get me started on when he crowned," Roberta continued.
"I spend way too much time with you guys," Callen said with a sigh, apparently resigned to his fate.
"Roberta…" Sam started,looking vaguely nauseous.
"I needed 15 stitches and you should have seen the blood," Roberta barreled on.
"Ok, I don't need to hear this again," Deeks said as Kensi visibly blanched.
"15 stitches," she repeated. Roberta nodded.
"And big babies run in our family."
"I think I need to leave," Kensi said, gripping Deeks' hand as she slipped off her barstool.
"Oh honey, I didn't mean to worry you," Roberta said. "You'll be fine. And once they hop you up on pain killers, you don't feel a thing."
"Thanks, Mom." Deeks squeezed Kensi's shoulder, trailing behind her to the kitchen.
"I guess it's a good think I didn't mention the episiotomy." Sam groaned and said,
"I'm not nearly drunk enough for this."
"And I definitely need to find a new place to live," Callen commented, passing Sam a full bottle of scotch.
I figured that since Eric and Sarah's babies were both large, Kensi and Deeks' could be as well. Incidentally, my sister was told she'd have a small baby and he ended up being over 8 pounds.
