Will You Be My Husband
...
It's quite unusual for Dr. Salunkhe to see his assistant like this – smiling mischievously to herself and lost in her own thoughts. Although he hasn't asked her, he's pretty sure it has something – no, everything – to do with that boyfriend of hers.
Just as he's about to approach her, the said boyfriend presents himself in the lab, followed by his best friend.
"Tarika, kya hua? Kyu bulaya mujhe?," asks Abhijeet in his usual sweet voice which he dons every time he meets her in the lab.
When she gets up from her seat, Abhijeet notices she has a strange smile playing on her lips – something he has rarely seen before. Without wasting a moment, she comes straight to the point. The next thing she says has an earth-shattering impact on all the three gentlemen standing in the lab.
"Will you be my husband, Abhijeet?," whispers Tarika in a teasing tone, her mischievous eyes piercing straight into the senior inspector's dark ones – which as an immediate reflex, widen to literally twice their normal size. While his jaw settles nicely on the floor, his voice refuses to leave his throat.
Daya, on the other hand, has to grab the nearest table to stop himself from falling down. His reaction is somewhat similar to that of Abhijeet – minus the butterflies dancing in the heart.
Dr. Salunkhe drops the test-tube he's holding, the sound of which goes unheard by all of them. However, he's the first one to recover from the shock. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!," he demands, fuming in anger and barging over to the couple to stand between them.
Meanwhile, poor Abhijeet is still trying to find his voice. "Ky- k- wh- ma- ka," he attempts to speak, not even bothering to hide the blush rising on his face.
Daya is still trying to process what just happened, and takes turns in looking at each of them in shock.
In all this, Tarika still has that wicked grin plastered on her face as she repeats herself. "Bolo na! Will you be my husband?"
After a silence of ten seconds, Abhijeet violently shakes his head to ensure he's not dreaming – well, dreams like this have become an occasional visitor for him, subconsciously as well as consciously – but no, he is in reality and his beloved ladylove has indeed asked him a question which he has been so desperately dying to ask her himself. But not in such circumstances, definitely.
Once he's regained a part of his senses back, he pulls her in a corner – of course, with Dr. Salunkhe following them closely and refusing to leave them alone.
"Ye-ye k-kya bol rahi ho, Tarika? Humne b-baat k-kaha ki hai is baare me abhi?," he fumbles, his crimson face radiating in the lab. Never before has he known what it is to have his heart flutter so wildly.
The forensic doctor is in no mood to let go, even while her senior is watching them, ready to pull his precious-implants out of his head. "Ab tum to puchne wale ho nahi! Isliye maine socha ki main hi puch leti hu!," she says with a teasing smirk, and once again, Abhijeet is unable to get the words out of his mouth.
Now, Daya has joined Dr. Salunkhe in watching them. Only Daya has a smug grin on his face, unlike Dr. Salunkhe who is literally muttering some expletives under his breath. "Ye kya chal raha hai!!," yells the forensic expert. He's about to give a solid scolding to the couple when ACP Pradyuman enters in.
"Arre Abhijeet! Tarika! Tum dono abhi tak yahi ho? Jaldi jao, tum dono ko shaadi karni hai!," instructs the assistant commissioner, and all the three gentlemen's heads spring in his direction.
"Pradyuman! Ye kya ho raha hai?," demands Dr. Salunkhe, his hands on his hips.
"Si-sir sh-shaadi? Hu-hum dono?," mumbles Abhijeet, still not able to understand how in the world is his senior involved in this.
"Haan, wo hotel Blue Diamond me puchtach karne ke liye tum dono ko pati-patni banke jaana hoga. Tum bureau me the nahi, is liye maine Tarika ko directly phone karke bata diya," says ACP Pradyuman clearing the confusion – and the reason for Tarika's behaviour.
Dr. Salunkhe is the first one to sigh in relief, while Abhijeet simply smiles, silently crushing his disappointment. Daya and Tarika try hard to suppress their laughter. Daya is about to come up with a teasing statement, when ACP Pradyuman's voice booms around. "Jaldi karo! Niklo abhi!," he says.
"Y-yes sir!," says Abhijeet while gathering himself.
"All the best, Abhijeet!," says Daya to his best friend, and adds with a naughty glint in his eyes. "… aur Bhabhi ji!," he chortles, only to be cut by Dr. Salunkhe's bellowing scream. "DAYAAA! BHABHI NAHI HAI WO TUMHARI!!!"
ACP Pradyuman shuts his ears, screwing his eyes shut, as a thoroughly blushing Abhijeet leads Tarika out of the lab.
