A/N Hey just a heads up for my writing schedule. I don't plan on uploading on weekends, aside from short little interludes like this one. These interludes won't really factor into the main story at all, they're just brief asides that'll serve as backstory for certain characters. And to answer a question I'm sure some of you may have: No, the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy aren't going to make an appearance in the main story, just everybody's favorite trash panda, sorry.
Rocket stood facing the exit ramp on the Milano, waiting for the rest of the Guardians, and Kara, to join him. They'd just finished a job for some schmuck on Xandar, rescuing his daughter from pirates.
They'd dropped the girl off fifteen minutes ago, but decided to stick around to buy some supplies before setting off again. Kara was the first to join him. He was always happy to see her, though he'd only recently admitted as much. She was constantly going off on her own, taking trips back to Earth and who knows where else, before briefly joining up with the Guardians. She smiled at him as she approached, a sweet, loving glance that caused him to blush before turning around.
It wasn't long before the rest of the Guardians arrived, and they exited the ship, deciding to split up to hit the most shops. Drax accompanied Rocket, who was carrying groot in his pot.
The day was mostly uneventful, Rocket didn't see anything that really caught his gaze, until he spotted something in the corner of his eye. He turned, and spotted a bright silver necklace, with a flawless sapphire, suspended in a teardrop shape.
Rocket flinched as Drax spoke from behind him. "It is beautiful. It would be a worthy gift."
Rocket turned around and waved a hand dismissively. "The flark are you talking about? You know Kara doesn't care about jewelry or that kind of stuff."
"It is the thought that counts." Drax retorted.
"What kind of crap is that!" Rocket spat. "By that logic, I could hand her a clump of dirt."
Groot spoke up. "I am Groot." He squeaked.
"Maybe I won't." Rocket scoffed glaring at the twig, before turning to watch the large man walk off, making sure he wasn't looking before Rocket looked at the necklace again. "Oh flark me."
Hours later, the Guardians reconvened at the Milano, carrying varying amounts of food, ammo, and other supplies. Rocket shifted uneasily when he spotted Kara approaching.
"Hey." Rocket said, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.
Kara smiled, before making a mocking face at him. "Hey." She said, teasing him and his unusually casual greeting.
Rocket snorted and shook his head smiling. "Dick." Kara snickered and laughed at his response, bringing a hand to her face in a futile attempt to hide her smile and stifle her laughter.. God she's so cute when she laughs. Rocket thought to himself as he smiled. Kara quickly regained her composure, and cleared her throat.
"So, did you and Drax find anything interesting while you were out?"
Rocket shifted, feeling the weight in one of his pouches, before nodding, feeling suddenly bashful. "Uh yeah- yeah I found something, uh just a sec." Rocket felt his face heat up as he began to blush. Flark he must look stupid. Rocket quickly opened the pouch, and retrieved the black box inside, before showing it to Kara, who's cheery demeanor immediately changed upon seeing it.
"Oh, Rocket." She said slowly, staring at the box. Rocket's blush got even worse, and he shifted his focus, looking past Kara rather than at her, as he opened the box, revealing the necklace inside. After several moments of silence, he nervously looked at Kara. Her mouth was ever so slightly open in surprise, before her features shifted, and she smiled that breathtaking smile of hers. "Rocket, it's beautiful." She said, as she knelt, and leaned forward, bringing her neck very close to Rocket. His face was mere inches from her neck, and he began to feel slightly light headed as he inhaled the sweet vanilla scent of her fur.
"Rocket?" Kara said sweetly after several moments passed.
Rocket shook himself out of his stupor. "Wh-what?"
"Aren't you going to put it on?" Kara said.
"Oh y-yeah, yeah sorry." Rocket's blush got even worse, his whole face must have looked like a tomato. Rocket gingerly pulled the necklace out from its casing, and placed the box back in his pocket. He noticed the nervous tremor in his hands as he moved to put the necklace on.
"Rocket, I meant on me." Kara said, fighting back the urge to laugh.
Rocket froze. Fucking. Idiot. "Oh right, sorry." Rocket leaned forward, his snout brushing the fur on Kara's neck as he moved to put the necklace on her. His hands trembled as he placed the bead inside the slot and slid it back, securing it. He stepped back, his heart feeling like it would explode out of his chest.
Kara leaned back, and adjusted the necklace so it sat comfortably against her chest, resting between her breasts. She smiled at Rocket, and brought a hand to her chest, framing the sapphire between her claws.
"So, how do I look?" She asked, slowly weaving her upper body back and forth.
It was then, that after several close calls, Rocket's brain completely stopped working. He fumbled over his tongue, trying to find the right words to say, and devolved completely into a nervous wreck. Kara chuckled lightly again. "Speechless I see. I must look pretty good then." She said, as she cupped Rocket's head between her hands, stopping him. He flinched slightly as he felt her touch, but quickly relaxed, and melted into her. He brought his hands up, and gingerly wrapped his fingers around two of her massive claws. "Thank you Rocket, I love it." She said, as she leaned forward and kissed his forehead. "I'm sorry I didn't get you anything."
Rocket purred. "That's okay. This is fine." He said, as he stroked his head against her hand. "I love you Kara."
