Ash was on his way to Mauville City, more specifically, just south of Mauville. Supposedly a strong electrical field was underneath the cycling road, and Professor Birch had asked Ashley to check it out, and see what kind of Pokemon gathered there as a result, or resulting in it. After a bit of searching, Ash had found it, what looked like a small garage was where the signal was strongest. "Okay, Dragonite let's go in for a landing down there." Ash said pointing to the island.
"What in the? A door, what's a door doing down here?" Ash said approaching a garage door. "Huh, a sign. New Mauville, why is this place called New Mauville. Come on Pikachu, let's call Professor Birch." Ash said heading back out of the small room.
"So, a locked door, and New Mauville. I'll look into it, in the meantime take a look around Mauville City proper." Professor Birch said over the phone. "Well Pikachu, I guess we have some time to look around." Ash said, somewhat annoyed. "Might as well see if there are any challengers." Ash said, pulling out his phone. 3 hours and nothing, no trainers, no update, just Mauville. "What do I have to do for some fun around here?" Ash asked as he and Pikachu turned another corner.
"Cleffa use Hurricane!"
"Azurill use Flamethrower!"
Ash was shocked. Those Pokémon shouldn't know those moves, but a battle was a battle. He ran to where it was to only find some little kids playing pretend. Ash couldn't help but smile. Their enthusiasm reminded him so much of himself when he was that young. "Woah! Is that a real Pikachu!" A little boy shouted running up to Ash. "Uhh, yeah." Ash said, a bit stunned not sure how to respond. "Could, could you maybe show us a real battle?" He asked. "I'd love too, but you can't battle no one." Ash said sadly knowing just how true it was. "Well, then how about a battle against yourself?" The little boy asked. "I guess that could work." Ash said looking into his bag. Dragonite, no he needed that to get back just in case. Mudkip was too new. Lileep couldn't keep up with Pikachu. Farfetch'd? Ash couldn't see any reason why that wouldn't be a good matchup. A close enough fight to keep it calm, but enough to be exciting. "Farfetch'd I choose you!" Ash said, sending out his Pokemon.
"Pikachu use Iron Tail!"
"Farfetch'd use Leaf Blade!"
The two attacks collided as the kids watched in awe.
"Pikachu use Quick Attack!"
"Farfetch'd parry with a Slash attack!"
Pikachu flew back readying it's electricity.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
"Farfetch'd stick your leek into the ground!"
Ash was taking a shot with that tactic, but was surprised it worked. Most of the electricity was absorbed into the ground. As the kids were in awe, Ash's phone went off. "Ashley, I have a lead. Go and see Wattson the gym leader, he should be able to help you get into New Mauville." Professor Birch said over the phone. "Copy that Professor, I'm on my way." Ash said over the phone. After saying goodbye to the kids, Ash, Pikachu, and Farfetch'd ran off to meet with Wattson.
"I will grant you access to New Mauville, if you can show me you can handle yourself in a fight!" Wattson said with a chuckle. "Come on out Manectric!" "Farfetch'd let's do this!" Ash said calling Farfetch'd forward.
"Manectric use Bite!"
"Farfetch'd use Brutal Swing!"
Manectric was flung away quickly by Farfeth'd's leek.
"Manectric use Discharge!"
"Farfetch'd stick your leek into the ground."
The trick worked just like earlier dissipating most of the electricity into the ground.
"Now Farfetch'd hit him with a Leaf Blade!" Ash commanded.
Farfetch'd's leek hit Manectric square as it went down.
"Well as promised, here's a key to get into New Mauville, just be careful down there." Wattson said, handing Ash a key card. "Come on guys, let's go." Ash said running back towards the southern exit to the city.
"It looks like there's a large amount of electric type Pokemon in here. They seem to be peaceful right now, and not strong enough to have caused the field." Ash said to himself. "Come on Pikachu let's look further in." Ash said heading forwards. The further they went in the calmer the Pokémon seemed to become, even normally aggressive Pokémon like Electrodes paid little to no mind to the trainer. "This is really weird, I wonder why they'd be so calm?" Ash asked Pikachu. Only to find his old friend in a similarly calm state. "Seriously, what is going on here." Ash said, picking up Pikachu. It wasn't like they were drained of energy, just calm. "Let's go talk with Wattson, maybe he has an idea." Ash said heading back out.
"Ahh, so they're peaceful, you say. Well it's possible they're feeding off the generators down there." Wattson said with a chuckle. "So, should we stop them?" Ash asked curiously. "I don't see any harm in it for now, I'll keep an eye on the power levels and if it gets to be too dangerous I'll go in and shut it off." Wattson said reassuringly. "Well, that was an uneventful mission." Ash said glumly as Wattson had left. "Well I suppose we should head back and give our report." Ash said, while sending out Dragonite.
