Frankie and Tom Tom left the clubhouse at Shark's call and went to the garage.
Gabby's SUV had taken quite a few bullets, more than one through the front grill. It was gonna take a lot of work to fix it. Tom Tom pulled Gabby's briefcase out and went through it, looking for a folder marked Jason. It would have been helpful if she had given Shark his last name, as that was the way the files her labeled, but he knew how a concussion could scramble your brain.
He found the right one and called Vin, listing off all the information Gabby had on the boy.
Vin, Hammer, and Lance in the van, drove across town to check on little Jason. They left Tony in charge of the clubhouse, knowing Frankie and Tom Tom would be back shortly.
They pulled up outside the little boy's house and saw nothing amiss. They sent Lance, sans cut, to the front door to ring the bell.
"Hey, are you Jason?" Lance asked the boy. The middle schooler nodded his head.
"You're a biker, aren't you?" Lance nodded his head.
"Listen, you told your counselor, Miss Gabby, about the man that wanted you to deal drugs for him outside of the school. Right?"
Jason nodded his head.
"Well, that man got very angry, and he hurt Miss Gabby. We want to bring you and your family over to our place to make sure you don't get hurt too. Is that okay?"
"Is she hurt bad?" He asked.
"Yeah, buddy. She's hurt pretty bad. And she's very worried about you. Are you home alone right now?"
"Yeah…my mom works till 11. And my dad…is…in Miss Gabby's place."
"Okay, do you have the number for your mom at work? Or her cell number? So we can call her and tell her where you are?"
Jason nodded his head and pulled out a phone with a cracked screen. Lance opened it up and found the number for his mom. "Okay, I'm gonna call your mom, and tell her what is going on. I want you to grab a change of clothes, and come out and drive back with me, okay?
"Okay. I'm I in trouble?"
"NO." Lance assured him. "No, not at all. Gabby feels so so so bad that this has happened. She really wants us to make sure you're okay."
"Hey Tig?" Mitch popped his head in the hospital room. "Hey Gabby, how you doing?" He asked when he saw she was awake.
"I've been better."
"I bet." He squeezed her foot affectionately and turned to Tig. "Vin called. They picked up Jason, he's fine. They called his mom, and that was…an interesting conversation. She's getting off work in 30, I'm gonna escort her to the clubhouse. Just in case, and to be with Jason. Lexi talked to the boy, got some more information out of him. We have a couple of spots to hit to look for these guys. They need one of you to go with."
"I'll go." Shark walked in the room and set down the coffee he had fetched for the group. "I need to see this through."
"Shark…" Gabby warned him.
"He nearly killed you Gabby. He…he shot you. He crushed your head in. He broke your ribs. He isn't getting away with anything less then what he did to you." Shark said in a dark voice.
Gabby nodded her head and leaned back again onto her pillow. Enforcer Shark was coming out. No more happy go lucky, kid loving, goofy Shark. This Shark was the man Happy trained. The man that would be called on to kill her attacker. She felt guilty she was the reason he would kill. And she prayed to God he wouldn't get caught.
The club wasn't aware of just how many men this new dealer might have working for him. But considering he took it upon himself to attack Gabby, it didn't seem like he had many people to do his dirty work.
Shark, Vin, and Mitch split off in one direction and Frankie, Bull and Hammer went in the other. It was Frankie's crew that found the men, holding up in a RV in a parking lot of a crumbling warehouse. They scored big. The dealer, his muscle, the same man as before, and the kitchen. Small time operation, no wonder they were using kids to push their product.
Frankie and Hammer took the men to the landscaping building they had in the middle of nowhere and left Bull to drive the RV out somewhere safe and blow it.
Shark, Vin and Mitch stormed in the building shortly after the first crew had unloaded the men.
Shark stormed over to the dealer that had attacked Gabby and threw a fist hard into his stomach, sending him from kneeling on the floor to laying down.
"Shark!" Vin called and Shark backed off just a step.
"Frankie, did they say anything on the way here?" Vin asked his VP.
"Dealer wouldn't say a word. His muscle man over there was begging for mercy. Probably get more out of him."
Vin nodded his head.
"Hammer, stay with him," Vin nodded towards the dealer. "We're gonna take the easy target first."
"Pres." Shark said in a dark voice.
"He's all yours Shark. AFTER we make sure they're it."
The muscle man, Genny, was more than cooperative. He told the crew everything, the house they were staying in, who they bought the equipment from, where the dealer had come from. He confessed to being the one to shoot at Gabby and confirmed the dealer, Davey, had done the beating. And most importantly, he named all the kids the two of them had hired, and assured them there was no one else out there.
Vin felt good about the information. The man was terrified, pissed himself terrified, and all Shark had had to do was slice his knife down the man's cheek to…show him how sharp it was.
Frankie whispered over to him that they didn't have to kill him. Vin thought it over as he listened to the man rattle on. He wasn't a fan of the killing. But last time they had taken out a leader and left men behind, their president had been killed. Vin looked at the anger in Shark's eyes. And had a better idea.
"Drag him over." Vin nodded towards the other room with Davey the dealer. Frankie knew where he was going with this and helped drag the man to a good vantage point.
"Alright, Shark." Vin nodded towards the bound man next to Hammer. "Show him what we do to men who hit women."
Shark nodded his head once and pulled his gun. He shot Davey in the arm, the same as had been done to Gabby. The man fell over again and Shark proceeded to kick him over and over and over while the man cried out. When he stopped moving, Shark bent down and untied the man. He slapped his face to make him come to and held his hand out. He snapped his wrist backwards, causing a horrible cracking sound.
Vin nodded at Hammer who grabbed Shark and gave him a deep stare. He nodded towards Vin.
"Genny. Look at me." Vin bent over to get into the man's face. "You see what we do to men who break our rules?"
Genny nodded profusely. "I'll leave. I've got family in LA. I'll leave. I won't come back. Please man, I won't come back, I told you everything." He begged.
"Mitch, take Hammer, drop our cooperative friend off at the bus stop. Make sure he gets on one headed to LA."
Hammer and Mitch nodded and each took an arm of the crying man, dragging him out to the van.
"You want to wait outside, brother?" Vin asked Frankie.
Frankie nodded his head and walked out of the room.
"All right son, finish him." Vin gave Shark permission.
Shark got down low and whispered into the man's ear. "You beat the woman I love unconscious. You bashed her skull in, you broke her ribs, you snapped her wrist. Do you like how that feels? Do you like it you sick bastard?"
Davey shook his head no vigorously. Shark nodded his head and grabbed the man's hair. He bashed his skull in, over and over and over against the concrete floor. He didn't stop, not even after the man went still, not until Vin dragged him off.
Shark went home to shower off the blood. Vin was letting everyone else go. Bull and Lance were taking care of the body. He wanted to throw on fresh clothes and go back to the hospital, but he laid down in his towel after his shower and drifted off immediately. His adrenalin finally crashing.
When he woke, it was too late. He had a text from Tig saying Gabby had been released. He threw on clothes and raced to her house.
Lexi and Becky were there when he got there. Lexi was coming up from the basement with a basket of clean clothes and Becky was in the kitchen cooking Gabby's marinated chicken. He walked in the kitchen to get an update from Becky, but saw Tig in the family room.
"How is she?" He asked his brother.
"She's alright, glad to be home. Becky helped her get cleaned up and dressed, but that just exhausted her so she's in bed."
"What about Matthew, he get upset when he saw her?"
"He laid with her a while till she fell asleep. He's in the den now, playing video games. I ah…I tried to call Kristen, but she didn't pick up."
Shark nodded his head and sat on the recliner. He pulled out his phone and sent Kristen a text to call him as soon as possible. Her mom had just gotten home from the hospital.
"Everyone go home…from the clubhouse?"
"Yeah, didn't make Matthew go to school, he wanted to ride with Gabby home from the hospital."
"I meant to be there myself. Crashed hard when I got home."
"It happens. It's all good now."
"It's not all good. Gabby's hurt. Bad. It's serious." Shark dragged a hand down his face. He was ready for his first beer of the day.
"Shark…" Tig sighed. "She's gonna be okay. None of us saw this happening."
"Yeah." He ran his palms over his jeans and got up, grabbed a beer from the kitchen, and sat down again. Tig gave him a concerned look. "You call her boss?"
"Yeah, but I mean…she already knew Gabby was taken to the hospital."
Shark nodded his head and took the first long sip of his beer.
"It's a little early for that, brother." Tig spoke up.
Shark looked over at him and back down at his bottle. "It's been a hell of a last 24 hours Tig, cut me some slack."
Tig nodded his head. Vin had come by the hospital early, before Gabby had woken up, and told Tig what went down.
"I'm gonna go check on her." Shark got back up and left his empty bottle on the end table.
"If she's not asleep she can take another pain killer. They're in her bathroom." Tig yelled after him.
Shark peeked in Gabby's room and saw she was awake and on her phone. "Hey Gabs." He greeted her, and came and sat down on the bed.
"Hey, you look rough." Gabby picked up her uninjured hand and ran it down his cheek.
"Not as bad as you. You're 3 shades of purple." He reciprocated and pushed her wild hair behind her ears.
"Yeah, I don't mind the bruises so much. But ribs make it so I can't get comfortable, and this damn cast!" She raised it up and let it fall back to the bed.
"6 weeks. It was a bad break."
"I thought it was a clean break."
"Yeah, cleanly split into 2 pieces." Shark said, aggravated. He put his hand on top of her cast. "God, Gabby. When I saw you in that hospital bed…" He paused and looked down at their hands together. "I was so fucking scared Gabby."
"I'm okay, Shark. Really. I promise."
"What he did to you…"
"I honestly only remember about half of it." She tried to make him feel better.
"How are the ribs?" He asked.
"Very sore. He stomped on them pretty good. I even have some boot tread in my bruises."
Shark swore and pulled up her pajama top. He swore again when he saw the very clear boot print shaped bruise on her upper stomach. He ran a hand over it gently.
"Damn it, Gabby. Damn it." He bent over, resting his forehead lightly on the hand over her bruises.
Gabby stroked her good hand through his hair. "I'm okay Shark. I'm okay."
Shark sat down on his side of the plexi glass and waited for Casper to show up. Even if Casper had wanted to see his wife, she was in no shape to come to the prison. She couldn't even make it down the stairs on her own yet.
Casper sat down and grabbed the phone on his side. Shark was a bit slower.
"Tell me about the outside world, brother." Casper said right away, looking for some entertainment.
"Casper…brother…I ah, I need to tell you something. Something really serious." Shark started.
Casper furrowed his brow. "What?"
"It's Gabby, she ah…she gave us some info on a dealer that needed a talking to and we thought we handled it. But we didn't."
"Did it blow back at someone?"
"Yeah…at Gabby." Shark finally admitted.
Casper sat, silently starring at Shark.
"He beat her up pretty bad. Shot her in the arm, broke some ribs, bruised her kidney, snapped her wrist, gave her a major concussion."
Casper continued to sit silently.
"She's gonna be okay. She's home now."
"Good…" Casper paused. "I guess now she knows what I go through in here."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Shark snapped.
"I go through hell in here. I'm all alone in here man, no backup. Do you know who I have to work for to stay on at least somebody's good side. I get the shit beat out of me all the time."
"She Got Shot." Shark said trying to whisper and yell at the same time.
Casper shrugged his shoulders.
"FUCK YOU MAN." Shark yelled and slammed the phone down.
"Hey Shark, can I ask you something?" Matthew asked him later that night. The house had emptied out of friends and family. Shark was bunking in the den, his idea.
"Of course." Shark said absently, sipping a beer.
"What really happened to my mom?"
Shark's head snapped to the side to look at the teenage boy. He really was growing up, no more sweeping club shit under the rug for him.
"Your mom's gonna be okay." Shark assured him.
"I know, everyone keeps telling me that. But what HAPPENED to her. I know it wasn't a car wreck. Vin wouldn't have pulled everyone in the club house for a car wreck."
Shit. "Your mom was in a wreck. The other driver left her on the road, hurt. When we found out, we didn't know if it was an attack or just an accident. Vin was being overly cautious."
"Who was the other kid you brought in? I never saw him before."
"Umm…just someone Vin wanted brought in. His mom came too, after work. You were in the dorms by then."
"Shark. I didn't sleep in the dorms. I stayed on the couch all night. I saw all the guys coming and going all night. You're still lying to me. I want the truth."
Shark sighed. "Alright. That kid, was approached by a drug dealer. He told your mom about it. She told us about it. We gave the guy a talking to. Told him we don't allow dealers to employ or deal to kids. He got mad. He…figured out your mom was the one that told us. He went after her. He left her on the road. We really didn't know what happened till she woke up. But he's gone now. He's not gonna hurt anyone again. Not you, not your mom."
"Did you kill him?" Matthew asked in a serious tone.
Shark stared at him intently. "Your mom would never want us to kill a man for her, even if he hurt her." Shark chose his words carefully.
Matthew bowed his head, studying the carpet of the family room. He rubbed his hands together and got up. He nodded at Shark, an oddly grown up gesture, and went upstairs to check on his mom.
