Chapter 48

.

President Odonnell talked with the ambassador about possible travel into this "other world."

.

Odonnell: Is it possible, to enter this other world and return?

Ambassador: It's unclear. Lucci and the others have the power to travel betweem worlds, but they have been unable to get into this world. We had hoped to be able to rescue some of our loved ones from this damnation. But, something has always blocked them from entering this world. Perhaps Carpathia and Evil have their own wizards blocking our attempts.

Odonnell: But what if myself and Carpathia came to some sort of understanding?

Ambassador: It is possible, assuming he keeps his word. But there's no guarantee that we could get our own people back. We suspect that Evil has already sent people to your country, John Smith says your serial killers are aliens.

Odonnell: We have no proof that those killings weren't done my native born americans. Anyway, I'd like to send some of my people before any official talks. I want an accurate report of what this world is like, not simply what they want me to see.

Ambassador: I see the logic, but it's a hell of a thing to ask someone to do.

Odonnell: Trust me I know. That's always been the part of the job I hated the most. Asking young soldiers to go into a dangerous situation, knowing they won't all come back. I wish I could go myself.

Ambassador: Perhaps you can. Time was princes would dress up as peasants, get a real look at their kindgdom.

Odonnell: I'd be recognized.

Ambassador: Lucci could make you younger, look different, temporarily. What about during the period between Christmas and the new year?

Odonnell: Maybe, it could work. I could use the 25th amendment to temporarily make Bartlett president, and everyone might assume I'm just taking a few days of rest. At my age there would be speculations about my health, but I'm okay with that. Tell Lucci I want him to take me, just the two of us.

Ambassador: Okay then.
