The Davis Women
Chapter 6
Author's Note : Thank you. As Sam's birthday party continues without her. She comes to grips with her past colliding with her present. I really loved this chapter. Review!
Sam shut the door to her bedroom and began to pace. Her mind flooding with memories. She wraps her arms around herself attempting to shield herself from the emotional weight knocking the wind out of her.
"Sunbeam you wait for me here. I have some things i need to secure before we can start this new life. I'll come back for you when i'm done." Rebecca stated.
"You promise.?" A young ten year old asked.
"Yes. I pinky promise. You sit still and not talk to strangers." Rebecca replied. As she leaned over kissing the top of her daughter's head. As she turned and got into the awaiting car. That drove off minutes later.
Sam wrapped her arms around herself. Waiting on that bench for hours. It got later. Colder. And darker.
Sam clutched the sun necklace around her neck.
"Momma!" She yelled into the sky. As tears fell from her eyes.
Sam got off the bench and started to walk. She soon realized her mom wasn't coming back for her. She had to find a place to stay. She was afraid of the dark. Especially when she was alone.
Sam felt the tears falling from her eyes and she quickly wiped them.
Feeling a hand go on her shoulder caused her to jump.
"Sammie. I'm sorry that she just showed up here. I never imagined she would do such a thing. I'm sure by the time we get back downstairs she won't be there." Brooke stated.
"It isn't you're fault mom. You didn't send her here. Rebecca knew today was my birthday and planned this surprise visit. I won't let her ruin this day." Sam replied.
This ball of guilt grew in Brooke's stomach.
"Rebecca has been writing you letters for weeks. I never opened the envelopes. I shredded them. Only because i didn't know what to make of these letters and i questioned her motive then and now."
"I was trying to protect you. I hope you can understand that." Brooke proclaimed.
"I get it. You were being a mom. I can't fault for that. I probably would of thrown the letters away without reading them. I should get back down there. I have a birthday party to celebrate." Sam said.
"We could end it early if you don't want to deal with anymore people tonight." Brooke suggested.
"No you went through all this trouble and planning. I want to celebrate." Sam stated.
Brooke pulled her girl into a hug.
Sam hugged her back. When the two pulled apart. The teenager left the bedroom with her head held high and a smile on her face.
The remainder of the evening. Went off without an error in sight. You couldn't tell anything was wrong with Sam.
Her only request was to go for a drive with friends.
Which Brooke agreed too. Rebecca was gone by the time the two came back downstairs.
Brooke was focused on cleaning up.
Lucas had come back to the party awhile ago and was now helping her clean up.
When the two eventually finished.
Lucas poured a glass of wine for himself and Brooke.
He brought it into the living room. And sat down beside her on the living room chair.
Brooke clutched the glass tightly. Took a long sip then sighed deeply.
"Something on you're mind.?" Lucas questioned.
"Sam's bio mom just showed up here. Expecting to reconnect and talk to the daughter she abandoned when she was 10. She rightly stated that she's Sam's mom and i'm not. There was no need to shield Sam from her."
"There was so much i wanted to say in response. But the reality is. I'm not Sam's mother in a official sense. I always planned to make it official but life just got in the way." Brooke admitted.
Lucas leaned over putting his hand on hers.
"You are not allowed to beat yourself up about this. I won't let you do it. You gave Sam what she needed. Love. Home. A family."
"That woman is a stranger to her. You have no reason to feel intimidated with you're place in that girl's life."
"You save people Brooke Davis. Angie. Sam. Me. It's who you are." Lucas proclaimed.
"It's in these moments that i wonder if raising Sam on my own was the right decision. Would things of been different if she had a father around. Would i be more secure in my parenting. Knowing i wasn't in it alone.?" Brooke questioned. Finishing her wine.
