The beginning of this chapter kind of explained what happened after Maura blacked out, from Jane's point of view of things. Thanks for your reviews and here's the next chapter, enjoy!
Jane hated how Maura ended up in the hospital, when Lydia called Jane she was very surprised. Lydia didn't say much but Jane and Korsak drove to her house like she directed them. As Jane watched her wife sleep after only being up for a little bit. She recalled what happened over an hour again.
Jane arrived to the cemetery with Korsak, she frowned not seeing Maura's car anywhere in sight. Jane already tried calling Maura's cell phone twice more. "Where the hell is she Vincent?" Jane rubbed at the palm of her hands, dialing her mother's number, she picked up right away. "Ma, is Maura home yet? I can't seem to find her at the cemetery."
"No sweetie, I'm sorry she's not home. You and Vince will find her I'm sure of it. Keep me updated."
"Yeah Ma, thanks," she shut her phone almost tossing it out the window when the phone rang, she looked at the I.D. and it was an unlisted number she answered it. "Rizzoli!"
"Jane it-it's Lydia... som-something happened... I-I already calls the cops to my house as soon as it happened. She was trying to protect me and he got to her... but-but I-I stopped him..." she sobbed onto the phone.
"Woah, hold up, what's going on?" Jane pressed the speaker phone button so Korsak could listen in.
"Just come to my house, it-it's important," she rambled off her address as Korsak typed it into his GPS and he started the car and headed into that direction as fast as he could. "I-I'm sorry, s-she shouldn't have come inside... I called the ambulance... they haven't come yet..."
"Is Maura alright, is she okay?"
"I-I think so, she still has a pulse. It looked like he tried to strangle her."
"Who?" Jane shouted at Lydia. "Who hurt her?"
"I-it was Frank, I-I'm sorry I thought he could change, that he wanted to get help... I thought I could help him..."
"What was Frank doing there? What did you do Lydia?" Jane's heart was racing at this point.
"Ju-just hurry, please?" Lydia cried before hanging up the phone.
"For fuck's sake!" Jane slammed down her phone onto the center console. "How long until we get there?"
"Five minutes."
"Well drive faster Vince!" she stated irritated, and scared. Korsak just nodded, picking up speed. It was the longest five minutes of Jane's life, when Korsak pulled up to Lydia's drive, they seen Maura's car and two squad cars. Jane opened the door and stepped out.
"Jane, wait for me, don't you want your wheelchair?" Korsak asked, coming to link his arm with hers.
"I just need to get to my wife," Jane grumbled, holding onto Korsak's arm as they made it to the front door, slow enough so Jane didn't falter but fast enough so she didn't take too long to see her wife.
There was a police officer at the front door. "Jane Rizzoli and Vince Korsak, I presume?" he asked and Jane nodded.
"Sargeant Detective Rizzoli-Isles actually," she spoke in a tone and he stepped to the side to let her in. Lydia was talking to an officer, trying to hold back her tears, Jane squatted down next to Maura, stroking her undamaged cheek. "Maura sweetie, I'm here, it's Jane..." she felt her pulse, and sighed in relief, being able to feel something. She looked up at Korsak, "Go get my wheelchair, and get her to the car, I'll be right there." She looked over at Lydia and focused her attention to the body on the floor, it was Frank lying there, in a small pool of blood. Korsak glanced at the body as well before going to retrieve the wheelchair.
When the officer got done talking to Lydia he turned to Jane. "We're going to have to take Lydia in for further questioning."
"Can I talk to her for a moment first?" she eyed the man and then the shook up blonde.
The officer nodded, "Yeah, the M.E. should be on it's way soon for the body," he gave Jane a nod before he exited with the other officer.
Lydia wiped her eyes, and Jane noticed the girl's bloody hands, "I-I'm so sorry Jane, I didn't... I didn't want..."
"How exactly did it happen?" she asked the girl completely ignoring Frank's body on the ground.
"I-I was getting my bag to pack things, I should have just left with Maura and got my things later. I came down and he had a knife and there was blood coming from Maura's face, she looked pale and she ended up on the ground after I released Frank's grip from around her neck and struggled to get the knife away from him. I ended up stabbing him in the abdomen when he went down really easy, I thought he was just messing with me to get me all worked up... he clutched his chest and I tried to stop the bleeding but it was too late... I didn't know what to do," Lydia got out with a shaky tone. "I think he had a stroke or something? I can't be too sure." She looked over at Maura on the floor just as Korsak came back with the wheelchair helping the unconscious woman into it.
"You should go with the officers now Lydia," Jane sighed, shaking her head at Korsak. "I really can't believe this shit Korsak. I have so many more questions."
Korsak nodded, "I know you probably do, I know you didn't like the man much, but I'm sorry for whatever loss you're feeling."
Jane shrugged, looking down at her dead birth father, "I don't think I feel anything, Maura's life was in danger Lydia tried to protect her. Let's get Maura to the hospital," she slowly walked out of the house, Korsak following behind her with Maura in the wheelchair.
Jane's recollection of the events were cut off by Frankie entering the room. "Hey Jane, how's Maura holding up?"
"She's just resting now," she sighed. "I don't even know why Maura was with Lydia today. I don't even know how I'm feeling, when I looked down at Pop's body, I felt nothing but relief, relief that he was gone... but what kind of person does that make me? I hated him but he still gave birth to us. Ma doesn't know yet, does she?"
"No, she doesn't," Frankie sighed, "Frost is with her and the twins at home, all she knows is that Maura got hurt. Tommy's out in the waiting room, he hasn't said anything yet. Korsak is sitting with him," Frankie pulled a chair beside Jane. "I'm not even sure how I feel, or how Tommy is feeling, it worries me, he looked up to Frank more than either of us. He probably believes just like Lydia that he could have been helped."
"Maura said the way he looked at her reminded her of Hoyt, I can't even begin to picture Pop like that. Able to have so much anger to want to try and kill someone. That's not the kind of man Frank was, at least I never believed he could go as far to wanting someone dead. Lydia believes he died of a stroke instead of her stabbing him. All I know is that Maura is safe, we are all safe for whatever evil was running through his head."
"We do our best to try and serve and protect Jane, Lydia seems to have been trying to be protecting Maura, neither of us know why Maura was with Lydia, but I'm sure after Maura gets some rest she'll let us know," Frankie rested a hand on Jane's shoulder. "We're going to be okay I think Jane..."
Jane nodded, "Don't you think we're going to be too fine? Too okay with what happened, Frank died and it doesn't concern me that he's gone, it concerns me more of how I don't seem to care about him not being here."
"He was already dead to us for months now Jane, I think what we are feeling is perfectly normal. We both didn't like him being out of jail, we were going to try and get him to go back. Things just ended differently, plus if he died of a stroke it was just nature taking it's course right?" Frankie shrugged. "He harmed Maura and he got what he deserved. You didn't feel any sorrow for the man who killed Camille, right?"
"No I was glad that fucker was gone, upset that Paddy got to him first."
"Just think of him as someone we don't know then, you would be okay with anyone dying if they hurt someone you loved, you see my point?" Frankie looked at her sister. "He was just a stranger to us, a person who got what was coming to them."
"You know it freaks me out you talking like this."
"I'm just being honest, the monster is gone and it's alright if we don't feel sadness. You'll be fine, there's absolutely nothing wrong with feeling relief," Frankie got up from the chair. "Did you want some coffee or something?" he asked wanting to change the subject.
Jane nodded, "Yeah, that would be nice, thanks for offering," she spoke softly and he left the room. "Oh Maura... he's right but it feels wrong to feel nothing, I'm sure you would see it my way, possibly, you tend to see the good in people, but I guess how good could he have had in him if he reminded you of Hoyt. There was no good in that man," she rubbed at her hands. "I'm kind of worried about how Tommy is going to react to all of this, I think everyone else will feel relieved, Ma did tell me that she told him that she hopes he burns in hell when he contacted her once he gotten out of jail. I should have known it would have ended like this. Evil gets what they deserve in the end," she ran her fingers through Maura's hair. "I'm glad that you're safe, this could have ended much differently. I wouldn't be able to recover if anything happened to you. In any situation I would always be glad it was him and not you."
"Hey can I come in?" Jane jumped hearing Crowe's voice she turned to him and nodded.
"Why are you here exactly?"
"Figured I'd update you, the on call medical examiner was able to do Frank's autopsy already. He determined that the cause of death was heart failure, he caused too much strain trying to hurt Maura and then when Lydia stabbed him he went into cardiac arrest. Even though his heart probably already was on the fritz while he was alone with Maura," Crowe spoke softly. "Are you going to be alright Jane?" he asked resting a hand on her shoulder.
"Yeah Maura's alive, that makes me feel okay. I am still trying to believe that any of this happened, that any of this is real. Why am I feeling conflicted of how I should be feeling? And why am I even opening up to you?" Jane turned her attention back into Maura. "I hated Frank why am I upset that I don't feel anything about his death?"
"I can't even begin to tell you Jane, I am sorry it happened, even if you don't think I should be sorry I am. He harmed Maura but he was your father it can be quite confusing."
"It all makes sense why Maura was pissed at me shooting Paddy that one time, even after all the shit he's done he is still her father, just like Frank was mine..." Jane sighed. "I can't believe he tried to kill Maura. She didn't do anything to him, all she wanted to do was to be a good person. Help where she felt she needed to be, even if it was the wrong place to be at. He loved Maura for me so why would he try to hurt her, hurt me by hurting her. I just don't understand. Why does everyone want to hurt Maura? She does nothing to anyone she just wants to help," Jane wiped her eyes. "There's so much good in her and it always comes to bite her in the ass," she really didn't want to cry in front of Crowe but she didn't care, all the emotions she felt today just came crashing down. "And now I'm fucking crying in front of you."
Crowe sat down next to her and rubbed her back, "Hey it's going to be alright. It's okay to cry in front of me."
"Yeah so you can just mock me later. I know you Crowe."
"Give me more credit than that. Plus I told Frankie I wouldn't tease you anymore."
Jane rolled her eyes, "Of course since Frankie asked you'll do it. You'd do anything to get in his graces, is that your plan, suck up to him until you get your dick sucked? I can't believe I just said that, that's gross Frankie is going nowhere near your..."
"Jane!" Frankie shouted as he walked into the room, "You know people can hear you right? The door is wide open."
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"You really think I'd be sucking his..." he stopped himself for a moment. "And if anyone should get on his knees it's Crowe."
"That's so disgusting," Jane groaned, as Frankie handed Jane her coffee.
"At least you stopped crying in front of me since you were so concerned about it," Crowe got up from the chair. "I should get going, see you around Rizzolis."
"Wait I'll walk you to your car," Frankie followed him out of the room, causing Jane to groan. "May I even ask why you and Jane were talking about... what you guys were talking about?"
"She just believes I am only listening to your wishes to stop teasing her because there's something in it for me. In her mind it's because I want you to, you know..."
Frankie shrugged, "I already did though."
"Oh so that's why you want to walk me to my car? Can't get enough of me Frankie, " Crowe smirked and Frankie hit him in the arm.
"Just for that, walk to your car your damn self. I'll just see you later," Frankie leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Goodnight Crowe."
"Goodnight Frankie, just remember my door is always open."
"Yeah and apparently so are your pants," he rolled his eyes and watched as Crowe left. Frankie didn't realize that Korsak and Tommy were watching his interaction.
"Frankie that was gross to witness," Tommy shook his head.
"Yeah and you're so innocent? Don't think I don't know what you and Frost do alone."
"Yeah but at least we keep our dirty activities private. I knew Frost smiling too damn much would give it away. But at least you're happy that's the best thing."
Frankie nodded, "You know what you're right, I am happy with what me and Crowe do together."
"So you two finally a thing then?" Korsak asked.
"Not exactly. I mean I'm getting used to the idea but it's still too soon for me to want to be in a relationship."
"Yeah because why need a relationship label when you're getting pleased anyways?" Tommy responded.
"Aren't you two dating again yet? What's taking so long?" Korsak asked the youngest Rizzoli.
"Frost like my brother here wants to be sure it's what he wants before we become boyfriends again. I mean it's alright though, just spending time with him again has been pretty great."
"Yeah I bet it is, thanks for being able to take care of him, I know he's really happy with you," Frankie admits, "Plus being with Crowe honestly isn't the worst thing," he sipped at his coffee. "I wonder if he left the parking lot yet," he spoke more towards himself as he left the waiting room and headed towards the elevator.
"Sometimes I worry about Frankie," Tommy shook his head. "I think I'm going to head out too, go check on Ma and Frost. You tell Jane I said goodnight."
"Are you sure you're going to be okay? I know you cared a lot about Frank."
"He abandoned me for a woman, then he hurts said woman and tries to hurt Maura. Good riddance right?" Tommy shrugged and left the waiting room, leaving Korsak by himself.
Jane came out of Maura's room and slowly walked over to Korsak, "Hey, did you want to come stay in the room with me and Maura? She's just sleeping but I could really use the company. Where'd Tommy go?"
"He went home to your house to keep Frost and Angela company. It's nice to see you back on your feet Jane," he smiled warmly at her. "Feeling better?"
Jane shrugged, "Yeah I guess that I am, physically I feel great but I still feel like I can't stand for a long amount of time. Emotionally I have no idea, I've been in a funk all day and this just put the icing on the cake. Who knows how long this is gong to last. But please join me, I should probably rest my legs."
Korsak got up from the chair and went in Maura's room with Jane, they both sat down. Just as they did Maura shifted slightly, yawning for a moment before she started to cough. Jane moved to stand up and rub her back. "Hey, hey you're going to be okay, right?"
Maura nodded and grabbed the water sitting on the tray next to her bed and took a sip, "My throat feels really dry."
"He left some pretty bad bruises on your neck, I swear if he wasn't dead I would kill him myself," Jane wiped her eyes, tears threatening to fall, she didn't like seeing Maura in pain and even Jane was still experiencing pain, she had been up more than she probably should have been.
"Are you going to be alright Jane?" Maura asked her wife in concern.
"I-I honestly don't know Maura..." Jane plopped down in the chair beside Maura's bed. "My emotions are all over the damn place today, I was even crying in front of Crowe. You know my emotions are fucked up when that happens," she ran her hands over her face. "Why on God's green Earth were you even doing with Lydia today?"
Maura sighed glancing at Korsak for a moment, "I know you probably just got in here to see me, but maybe Jane and I could speak..."
Korsak nodded, "Say no more. I'll be outside if you two need anything," he got up and left, closing the door behind him.
"I went to the cafe to get something to eat because it was almost close to dinner and I thought you'd be upset knowing I got too distracted to eat. Lydia entrusted me with a secret, something that was concerning to her. She thought she was pregnant..." Maura paused once Jane interrupted her.
"Lydia... is... pregnant?"
"No, she thought she was, she was scared I could tell and I went with her to a doctor because I told her she shouldn't completely trust one of those pregnancy test you pee on. When we discovered she wasn't pregnant I was taking her home, she wasn't giving me very good directions, when I got my GPS out and realized we were going in the opposite direction of her house I knew that she was avoiding something. She was scared Frank would get angry with her about not being pregnant, she promised him he could help out if she was. I went with her because she requested I walk her up to the door. So when we got to the house I heard Frank in the house, he didn't sound very pleasant, he seemed fine when he realized I was there..." Maura paused to drink some water, frowning when she emptied her glass. "But then when I told her to tell him about the baby, she did and he got really angry, real fast. He tried to shove me out of the house, I was kind of scared, Lydia insisted I go home so did Frank, he slammed the door in my face, I was going to go to my car to leave, but I heard a sound, Frank slapped Lydia and I heard her scream so I went back inside. Lydia was on the ground, I went to check on her and that was when Frank yanked me up and pressed me against the wall. Lydia stepped inbetween me and him. Lydia told me she would get some things and she left me alone with Frank." Maura sighed, "Jane, I need more water..."
Jane nodded, getting up to go retrieve some from the bathroom sink, "Here you go Maura," she handed her the glass, and Maura drank some more. "Why would she leave you alone with Frank knowing he already tried to hurt you?"
Maura shrugged, "I'm not sure. I know we should have just left then and there, then things would have been alright. Anyways Frank got mad I was trying to take Lydia away from him, then he said what if he took me away from you. And that if I told you what he did to Lydia I would regret it. So I told him I didn't like being threatened, I tried to be brave and stand tall telling him I'd rather wait outside for Lydia. He said he wasn't scared of me, Lydia or you." Maura stopped, her eyes filling with tears, Jane reached out and took Maura's hand. "He touched my cheek and made me really uncomfortable, said you couldn't do anything about it in your condition, then his hand wrapped around my neck. I tried to pull away from him but he just... he tightened his grip and I tried not to freak out because I'd only lose oxygen faster. I tried to use my keys to stab him, but he heard them and he noticed the swiss army knife you put on my key ring so if I needed it if I ever feel threatened. The look he had when he looked at the blade, Jane I was sure more than anything that I was going to die... that he would kill me. He said he couldn't see how someone could slice someone, he mentioned how Hoyt hurt you and that he sees now the excitement it could bring." Maura squeezed Jane's hand tightly. "I remember him cutting into my cheek, then panic set in and I lost control of my breathing, the last thing I seen was Lydia yanking him off of me before there was darkness." Maura sobbed, and Jane climbed into bed next to her and pulled her close. "Jane I know it's not how you want to remember your father, knowing what he was capable of doing."
"Hey, someone who decides to hurt you is no father of mine, I cut Frank out of my life on purpose, and knowing what he was capable of, hearing it from your side of things, how scared you felt in his presense. I'm glad that fucker is dead, I felt bad for not caring that he is dead, but now I honestly don't see why I did."
Maura nodded, "It's okay if you felt conflicted on how you should feel, there's no one way to cope with a loss, even if he turned out to be not such a nice person, he was still your birth father. It's a very confusing time."
Jane kissed the top of Maura's head, "We don't have to feel scared anymore, I don't have to always wonder what he's up to, what evil things he's planning. I hate what he did to you, hate how I can't even confront him, I'd give him a piece of my mind."
"I know you would sweetie, but maybe try not to think about how angry he makes you feel," Maura looked up at Jane. "It's causing you to tighten your grip on me."
Jane's face fell and she pulled away slightly, "Shit Maura, I'm sorry I didn't... I didn't mean to..."
"I know you didn't Jane," she placed a hand on Jane's face. "You never mean to hurt me, that's not you," she pressed her lips softly against Jane's for only a moment. "I love you Jane Rizzoli-Isles."
"That's Sargeant Detective Rizzoli-Isles to you," Jane smiled and Maura gave her a shove.
"Would you stop it with that already?"
"What I might as well say it as much as I can before I turn into this police academy, life coach instructor person."
Maura smiled, squirming slightly in excitement, "So that's what you decided then? To switch careers?"
"Yeah, don't look too excited though Maura."
"Why not? It's quite exciting that you want to do something different, you'll still make a change in people's lives. You're broadening your horizon on careers, and I just know you're going to do well at anything you do," Maura kissed Jane again. "I should be excited right?"
Jane nodded, "I guess you're right babe, you're cute as shit when you're excited. I much rather you be excited then scared or hurt, we seem to always make each other feel better, don't we?" Jane moved to straddle Maura's waist.
"Jane, what are you doing?" Maura laughed, as Jane kissed at her jaw.
"Cheering you up. Is that okay? You said it yourself, you should be excited and I know just what to do to make you really excited," she kissed at her neck, kissing at the bruises, before pulling away, running her fingers against Maura's pulse. "Your heartbeat seems to be quite elevated, eyes dilated, arousal seems to be the verdict. Je te trouve belle."
"Why must you start speaking French?" Maura bit her bottom lip, "We're in the hospital Jane, I don't think this is proper etiquette."
"Je t'aime," Jane whispered before pulling Maura into a kiss, rolling her hips down against hers, Maura groaned, closing her eyes.
"Jane..." she whispered, as Jane's lips left hers, nipping at her pulse point. "I thought we weren't going to do anything to harm your..."
"I'm fine, I walked from Lydia's driveway to her house just to see if you were okay. Do you trust me?"
"Jane I'm sure you already know the answer to that."
"Come on Maura, answer the question, do you trust me?" Jane looked at her face, pushing the hair out of her eyes, looking at her wife so lovingly.
"I trust you with my life Jane, I trust you with my entire being."
"Then trust me while I do this, trust that I am okay," Jane slipped her hand slowly up Maura's thigh, underneath the cover. "I'm feeling pretty invincible right now."
"I'm pretty sure hospitals have cameras, Jane," she breathed out, licking her lips.
"You know, this conversation is turning out to be a huge mood killer. I thought you'd be glad I feel good enough to want you right in this moment."
Maura nodded, "I am glad you are able to arouse me, I still believe we should be careful. Plus the doctor never cleared you for sexual activities."
Jane dropped her head and sighed, "Okay," she pouted, as she rolled off of Maura's waist and went to go sit on the floor, crossing her legs and closing her eyes.
"Jane, what are you doing?"
"I'm doing what you did that other day, you would think you would know someone was meditating when you see them do it."
"You never meditate Jane, I'm impressed," Maura looked at her wife in amusement. "But you do realize even though this is a hospital, it isn't exactly the most sanitary of places to sit. There is a lot of foot traffic in a hospital in a single day, so many people tracking in germs and who knows what you're contracting sitting down there."
Jane couldn't help but roll her eyes, "Someone seems to enjoy being a mood killer today," Jane got up from the floor wiping her hands on her pants, before attempting to get back in bed with Maura.
Maura shook her head, "Don't even think about it Jane, you need to go wash your hands, you just got floor germs mixed with the germs on your hands."
"But Maura..." Jane whined, heading into the bathroom, stomping her feet lightly.
"You can keep the attitude in the bathroom along with the germs. I don't think someone who wants to be a mother should be acting like a child," Maura told Jane, all in a teasing tone.
"Well I'm glad that you're feeling well enough to be making jokes," Jane came back from the bathroom moments later, an amused smile on her face.
"You're quite entertaining, my lovely wife, you have permission to rejoin me in the bed."
"I think I'll just keep my dirty ass out of your bed, and keep those floor germs to myself," Jane sat back down in her chair, leaning back against it.
"I love you Jane, you and all your shenanigans," Maura smiled brightly at her.
"I love you too Maura, you and all your smart assery," Jane smirked, resting her hands on her stomach, just admiring her wife, she looked much happier than she did earlier in the evening, and Jane would do absolutely everything she could to keep that smile on her face.
Sad and upsetting chapter ended up on a good note. Rizzles needs their happy moments. Frank is gone, now you know what happened. Frankie seems to be handling Frank's death pretty well, Jane was struggling for a moment until she heard Maura explain what happened to her, and Tommy, well... nobody ever really knows how he feels.
Oh and to answer your question anon, Angela is about 54/55 in this, yes she's pregnant, but sometimes it can happen, but that's also why she's having complications because of her age. if that's what you were wondering about :)
