Chapter 34
Make Your Choice
Amahy's POV
Brother was terrified and so was I. Whatever it was, it needed to be left alone. Of course, Yuna couldn't do that. Brother ordered us to give it back.
"It's a little late for that isn't it?" Paine asked.
"No, he's right. I don't give a damn who we give it to but we're giving it back!" I said.
Brother nodded. The only problem was deciding who to give it to. The Youth League, or New Yevon.
"What do you think Amahy?"
I took a deep breath.
"I never cared for Yevon, but I don't trust the Youth League either. But they would be the lesser of two evils." I said.
I would never trust anything with Yevon in it's name.
"Then we go to the Youth League." Yuna said.
Brother took off immediately. He was very eager to get rid of that sphere, as was I. Wherever that Machina was, I hoped it stayed there and no one ever used it. It was hidden for a reason. I didn't want my son living in fear that something like Vegnagun was out there. He knew about Machina if course, but he would never know about this one.
"Amahy."
I looked up at Rikku.
"We're making a pit stop in Luca."
I nodded.
I didn't like going to Luca anymore. It reminded me too much of my reunion with Auron fout years ago. I went to the café with Authion to get him something to eat.
"Hey there. Wanna grab a cold one with me."
I knew that voice! I turned around and looked at Bickson. He was the captain of the Luca Goers, and a complete asshat. He squinted.
"You look familiar."
"I should hope so Bickson." I snarled.
His eyes widened.
"You?!"
"Yes me." I said coolly.
"So where are your Aurochs? Staying home to spare themselves?" he laughed.
Normally I wouldn't result to violence in front of my son, but he hit a nerve. I sent him flying back with a punch and he crashed into some tables. I took my son and we left.
"Hey! Who do you think you are?!"
Bickson followed me out of the café. I sighed and pushed Authion to the side.
"If you have something to say, say it. I haven't the patience for you."
"You can't just go around hitting people like me!"
Authion glared at him.
"Don't talk to my mamma like that!"
He laughed at him.
"Oh! Looks like we have ourselves a little warrior!" he teased.
If there was one thing I wouldn't tolerate, it was someone teasing my son. I walked forward and lifted him off the ground.
"How dare you! That's my son and I will not tolerate anyone teasing him! Especially not the likes of you! He is Auron's son! He deserves respect. I could care less what you say to me, but if you insult my son again….I'll make sure you remember me next time! Is that in any way unclear?" I asked.
He shook his head and I threw him against a wall. I looked at Authion. He looked a little scared.
"Why didn't daddy come to help?"
I opened my mouth but found no way to answer.
"Amahy?! Are you alright?!" Yuna asked.
"I'm fine Yuna. I just had some old ghosts to deal with."
Paine looked at Bickson and smirked.
"Annoying ones I see." she said.
I nodded and Authion took my hand.
"When I grow up I wanna be strong like you." he said.
I smiled and laughed a little.
"You're already strong, son."
He smiled and jumped happily. I smiled at his happiness... but I knew he would keep questioning me about his father. And I knew the time was fast approaching where I would have to tell him the truth. I dreaded that moment more than anything. We went back to the Celsius and went straight to the Youth League Headquarters. They were all very happy to see us.
"Well, someone's glad we don't like Yevon."
We were taken inside where we once again met Nooj.
"Did you watch it?"
"Huh?" Rikku asked.
"The sphere." Nooj said.
"Oh well….you see….I uh….hahaha."
"Of course we did." I said.
"Oh boy."
"Forget." Nooj advised.
"I cannot." Yuna said.
"Yuna, don't let him push you around." Paine said.
I slowly looked at her. I knew she knew him somehow.
"Some advice: the machina you saw was the colossus Vegnagun. It has overwhelming destructive power and it must not be touched. Yet those New Yevon fools think that they can control it."
"Yeah sure they can." I muttered.
Nooj looked at me and I looked away.
"The Youth League will do whatever it can to be sure Vegnagun cannot be used. You shouldn't get involved."
As I looked at him, there was something off.
"You don't plan on using it yourself?"
He looked at me.
"No of course not."
"Tell me…Who was the man I saw in the sphere?" Yuna asked.
"I cannot say." he answered.
"I see."
Authion came running in with Buddy.
"Mommy the bad lady came back!"
I frowned and picked him up.
"Bad lady?"
"You have a child?" Nooj asked.
I nodded curtly and Authion smiled and held out his hand.
"Authion son of Auron!" he said.
Nooj's eyes went wide. I pulled Authion back. I didn't want him near Nooj. There was something very strange about him.
"Gullwings we're leaving!" Buddy said.
We left and found that Leblanc had stolen the sphere half from the Zanarkand ruins.
"Whose on top now Dullwings? It'll be a thousand years before you can take on the mighty Leblanc!"
I covered my son's ears.
"When I get a hold of her I swear I'm going to rip that tattoo right off her chest!" I hissed.
"She got us." Paine said.
"Oh poopie." Yuna said.
I snorted and Authion laughed.
"Yuna! Don't talk like that!" Rikku said.
"I'm just copying you!"
I rolled my eyes.
"That's nice. And?"
"We're gonna take it back! No one messes with us!"
Authion jumped up and down excitedly.
"Yeah!"
Paine and I looked at each other.
"And what about Vegnagun?" I asked.
She looked down. She suddenly shook her head and had a determined look on her face.
"We're forgetting who we are! We're sphere hunters! The Gullwings!"
I smiled and Authion made a tough pose. I nodded and leaned against Paine. Brother came out.
"That's right! We steal back what is stolen. It is the law of the sphere hunter! Now we go to Chateau Leblanc! We attack in the name of honor!"
"….get our hineys kicked in the name of honor." Shinra said.
"What about the funny dressed people?" Authion said.
Yuna smiled.
"Maybe we could sneak in in disguise?" Yuna suggested.
Authion nodded.
"That's it! Yuna you are brilliant!"
Authion scowled and kicked his shin.
"It was my idea!"
"Oh right, right! Authion you are brilliant!"
I smiled and shook my head.
"So we have to fly around till we find Leblanc's gang-"
Paine looked at me and I covered Authion's ears.
"Beat them up and steal their uniforms. Three of them."
We all nodded and I sent Authion off to play with Brother. I loved my son so much, he was happy and had a sunny disposition. His smile was contagious and he was so strong.
