Azula had heard what happened through the grapevine. It was confirmed later when she ran into Jet. He had that smug look pleased with what little he accomplished. The next morning she didn't take her time. She couldn't wait to greet Mai.
"So when will we hear wedding bells?" Azula said as she walked into the room. Her smile faded as she studied the scene. Ty Lee sat on a bed covered in clothes, and Mai stood as two servants packed what she instructed.
"Wait, what's going on?"
"I'm leaving." Mai stated, "And as far as wedding bells, you would have to ask Katara."
"What?!" Azula screamed.
"Azula, can you calm your energy. This is the last thing Mai needs."
"But, but what happened? Everything was made easy for you. He said he loved you. What did you do wrong."
Mai scowled and stiffened her arms at her side. "Nothing! I did nothing wron-"
"Exactly! I should have known. You never do anything. You always leave it up to Ty Lee and me to fix your romance."
"I never asked you to."
"You never had to. You are so pathetic. You lack action yet cried for help when it came to Zuzu."
"Azula," Ty Lee snapped.
"Never mind. You there, stop this packing. I want you to put everything back while we go get my brother and end this foolishness.
"No," Mai ordered. "Keep packing. I'm not staying here another minute."
"Oh, yes, you are. The entire universe knows you and Zuzu belong with each other. It's time for you to stop relying on the universe and put in a little work. Fight for him, damn it!"
"I did!" A tear rolled down Mai's face, and Ty Lee grew angrier at Azula.
"Will you just stop it, and go away, Azula. You're not helping."
"I fought for him the best way I knew how, and even though he loves me, he loves her. He loves her more."
"Well, fight hardened."
"Azula!"
"What? I don't believe in giving up, you know that."
"You don't care. You just want me as a pawn. Well, I'm done playing."
"That's not true. Yes, I don't want a peasant in the family, but I truly believe you belong together. This tribe girl has come and spoiled what is written in the stars."
"Exactly, so let it be." Ty Lee added.
Azula squinted her eyes at her, "Are you really taking your advice from this traitor?"
"I am not-"
"Think about it, Mai. Ty Lee is team Katara. You should have seen her before you came."
"I am on no one's side when it comes to this. Mai and Katara are both my friends."
"You can't be friends with the enemy, Ty Lee! So stupid. It's either Mai or Katara."
"No, I am for both of their happiness."
Azula rolled her eyes, "See, you can't trust her."
"Enough!" Mai blurted, "I can't take it anymore. I'm leaving, and that's that. I don't want to fight for a man who doesn't love me like I love him. I don't even want to see him today, especially knowing he went to her last night. He was with her last night touching her how he once touched me."
"Mai I…"
"No, Azula. If you can't be a true friend and support my decision, then get out."
Azula looked between the girls glaring. "Fine. Once again, I'm off to save the Fire Nation on my own."
Azula marched down the halls to the chamber where Jet slept. She barged in, and he sat up from where he lay swords in hand. Jet could never sleep peacefully here.
"Get up, you idiot!"
"What the-"
"While you were sleeping, the peasant girlfriend of yours was getting her freak on with my brother!"
Jet shook his head, not understanding what in the world the princess was saying. "Wait, what? What do you mean?"
"Last night," she spoke slowly this time, "while you laid snugged and alone in this bed, your whore of a girlfriend was fucking my brother. You and Mai had one job, and you failed!"
Jet was enraged, how could Katara do this? He was Fire Nation. The son of the man who had ordered the kill on her mother. Jet came to his feet, "I need to speak with her."
"Go right ahead. After the night they had, they probably are fast asleep in each other's arms."
Jet grew angrier and swung, braking the vase on the nightstand. "I'm going to kill him."
Azula smiled. "Now that's an idea."
Jet looked to her surprised she would go so far then remembered that these people weren't human but monsters. "Alright, what's the plan?"
