Chapter 89:

The Mysterious Trainer

Well, it was time to head back to the Fight Area to take on Palmer.

Route 230 is just a sea route with a big island in the middle. The island itself was rocky but had a patch of tall grass on it, unlike last time which had the house on it with the man still trapped there. Being such a short route, I knew that I could make it back to the Fight Area by the end of the day, meaning that I could take on the Battle Tower tomorrow.

I sailed across the sea on Empoleon and got off at the island. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and my spirits were high. Well, why wouldn't they be? Usually, I'd say that my biggest match yet was coming up, but after what I've been through, I wasn't sure about that.

What I was sure about was how excited I was to see Barry and Master on the small island, giving it their all in training.

"Heracross, Megahorn!" Barry shouted, as Heracross kept trying to thrust its horn as hard as it could. It looked stronger than ever before.

"That's not its full potential" Master said, somewhat harshly. "But keep at it, you're doing well." He noticed me. Even though his eyes were hidden under a cotton hood, he could still see me. "Barry, you may have a break. Your friend is here."

Barry ran up to me, exhausted. That would be scientifically impossible for him; he's always so full of energy that the thought of him getting tired was hard to comprehend.

"Lucas, this guy is working me hard!" he yelled, sweat dripping down his face. Heracross was also panting wildly. "You're doing your best Heracross, don't worry." Barry stroked his horn.

Master walked over, the back of his hood dragging on the floor. "Break over. Back to training. We need to work on Staraptor's Steel Wing now."

Barry sighed. "Are you kidding me? That was only…" He looked at his Pokétch. "15 seconds!" He walked back over, arms dangling beneath him. He recalled Heracross and sent out Staraptor. "Use Steel Wing."

I sat down and watched. I had encountered a lot on interesting people on my journey, but no one quite like this. He really liked pushing Barry to his limit. I know you should give it your all, but limits should be respected to.

"Hey" I said. "Barry has a lot on his mind right now. Maybe you should let him have more a breather."

"Are you telling me how to do my job?" he snarled.

Nervously, I whimpered "Yes. If I'm being… brutally honest."

Master turned around, back to me. "You're the Champion of the Sinnoh region. YOU don't need any training like this. Barry on the other hand needs this training if he is to ever hold a good position as Tower Tycoon. Go away, we're busy."

Offended, I turned away and started walking back to the sea.

"Hey!" Barry shouted. "There is no reason to talk to my friend like that."

"JUST KEEP AT IT!" he shouted, as Barry moaned.

I didn't want to leave; I just sat on the edge of the island thinking about what had gone down. I had been turned away by whoever this was, whilst he was putting a lot more pressure on someone who already has something quite big coming up.

I looked to the opposite side of me to where the Battle Tower was, well, towering over the trees. I had to awkwardly adjust my eyesight as to not lock hood with Master, I didn't like him.

I swerved my head back the other way to see a black speed boat coming towards us. I got up and got out my binoculars, and my jaw dropped when I saw a few Team Rocket Grunts, as well as Mars and Jupiter, on it.

"Guys…" I said. "We have company."

"Don't interrupt us!" Master shouted, before seeing what I was pointing out. "Team Rocket" he said.

The boat stopped on the island. "That's him!" Mars shouted, pointing at us.

"Oh is it now?" one of the Rocket Grunts said. All the Grunts came out of the boat, along with Mars and Jupiter.

"That Heatran could only keep us occupied for so long" Jupiter said.

"Why must you always get in our way?!" Mars said, pulling her hair in frustration. If we kept aggravating her this way, she might go bald.

"We're surrounded" Barry said, as the Grunts kept us in a circle. "Master, help us!"

Master just stood there.

"Well, screw you then!" I said. "If you won't help us, then I'll fight alongside Barry! I've been a better mentor to him in an hour than you have over the entire course of your training with him!"

"Just take them down" he said grumpily.

A Rocket Grunt M came up to me.

"Wanna rough it kid?" he asked.

"Go Mamoswine!" I yelled.

"I choose Victreebel!" the Grunt replied. Out came a long, yellow Pokémon with two green leaves attached to it and a circular mouth.

"Mamoswine, give it a dose of Ice Shard!" Mamoswine shot a chink of ice at Victreebel. A lot was done to it.

"Victreebel, Razor Leaf!" Victreebel shot multiple sharp leaves at Mamoswine. Being a Ground Type. Mamoswine had a lot of damage done to it.

"Ice Shard again!" Mamoswine once again shot ice at Victreebel, giving me the victory.

"We can't take all these down by ourselves!" I shouted at Master.

Barry had just finished taking down a Grunt on his end, when in the distance, we saw another speed boat. However, this one was white. I put on my binoculars to see the Frontier Brains.

"We have company!" Barry shouted.

"But this one's good!" I assured him.

The boat pulled over to the island and all five Tycoons plus Caitlin came out.

"Darlings, we're here to help!"

"I hope these rentals don't get too damaged."

"Caitlin, it might be time to use that Psychic power too good use."

"Let's see what Type of match we can come up with."

Palmer ran over to Master. "Who do you think you are? This isn't training! This is tiring out my son!"

Master didn't say a word. "I'm doing all I can…"

"I think you've done too much!" Barry said. "Help us!"

"I'm… not sure."

"Please!" I said, tears in my eyes.

Master put his right hand on his hood. "Then… I guess now is the time…"

With that, he pulled it off. The hunch on his back was revealed to be a Pikachu. The Trainer? He had black hair, a red shirt and a red cap. I was in the presence of a Trainer as Legendary as Dialga and Palkia themselves.

"Red?" I muttered.

"Sorry for the harshness!" Red told Barry, his mood changed from seriousness to sort of cocky but forgiving. "Just needed to keep some kind of facade up, and I'm not talking about the move."

"Crikes" Jupiter said. For the first time ever, I could see that her, as well as Mars, were scared. Even when Cyrus was at his absolute maddest, they seemed to keep their cool.

"Charizard!" Red yelled, sending out the giant orange Pokémon. It roared and spat a Flamethrower into the sky "Well come on you lot, help out! I can't do it myself can I."

From everyone's sides they sent out Ludicolo, Houndoom, Electivire, Gengar and Dragonite.

I recalled Mamoswine and sent out Empoleon as all the Grunts sent out many Pokémon from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh. Mars and Jupiter sent out Skuntank and Purugly.

"This is against what we're supposed to do, but we can't let them go down" Barry said. "Staraptor, Brave Bird!" Staraptor flew at high speed into many of the Grunts, knocking them into the sea.

"Empoleon use Hydro Pump!" I shouted. Empoleon shot a deluge of water at Team Rocket's boat, blowing it up. "They can't retreat, someone call Looker."

Palmer got out his phone and continued to talk, all whilst battling another Grunt and he's Drapion. With one swift Dragon Rush, the Grunt was knocked into the water. "Looker, we have a situation."

I then turned my head to Mars and Jupiter. "As for you two…" I sent out everyone. "You're not going anywhere!" I had them cornered. They had almost fell into the ocean, but I wasn't going to let them. "You want to fight me? Go ahead, but you're dealing with the Champion. The Champion who beat Cyrus and foiled your operations. I have friends if you want to battle, so take your pick, and don't even think about turning to Charon. He won't help."

Mars and Jupiter stopped for a minute. "We've had it with you! Purugly, use Slash!" Mars sent out her Purugly which came charging at me with its claws, when suddenly, it was blasted by a Thunderbolt from Red.

"No you don't!" Red shouted.

Barry had Heracross with its powered up Megahorn launch the last Rocket Grunt into the ocean. Police boats were arriving to scoop them all up.

"End of the line" I told them.

The mess had been cleared up when we got back to the Fight Area. Looker put Jupiter and Mars in cuffs and put them in a helicopter.

"Think you could make a return aye?" Barry told them.

Mars and Jupiter gave us an evil stare, but with a hint of sadness.

"Why can't you just let us succeed?!" Mars shouted as the helicopter door closed. The propellers span round quickly as it flew into the air, then flew off into the distance.

"So Barry, your Master was the Red this whole time" I said. "Red, I'm sorry for my rudeness early.

I actually got to shake the hand of Red himself, former Champion of the Indigo Plateau in Kanto. "No, I should be sorry for mine. I pushed your friend too hard. I knew this was going to happen so I needed to keep my cover as someone I wasn't."

Palmer walked over. "So Red, if you have the time, would you like to watch the Battle Tower match?"

Red nodded. "Of course, but do you have an extra ticket? I have a friend."

Now who else could possibly be with him?

"Hey, am I too late?" A man in brown cargo shorts and a black jacket ran over. He had orange spiky hair. "Red, you really don't like to wait around let me tell ya."

It was Blue, once Red's rival and now the best of friends. He's also Professor Oak's grandson. He had a large blue Pokémon with him that had a brown shell and two grey cannons coming out of it.

"So, this is Sinnoh's Champion aye? Slightly older than I was when I became the king let me tell ya." He looked up at the Battle Tower. "I wish Kanto had a Battle Frontier. I know Johto had one built recently, but I can't help but be a little bit jel."

So, this would be some my audience. The Brains, Barry, and now the former Champions of the Indigo.
