Unholy Confessions
It was near midday when they came for him. Ezra and Sabine were enjoying their morning in the tower with their children when they heard familiar engines. Three X-Wings landed outside near the Gauntlet. Ezra stood to meet them. Sabine grabbed his hand, pleading with him not to go.
"Everything will be alright. I promise." He reached down and kissed her before going to the lift.
"Alright you three, go play in your room. Daddy and I will be right back." Sabine walked into her room and grabbed her jetpack. She walked out to the balcony and jumped off, slowing her decent before she hit the ground. It just so happened she landed next to Ezra.
"Well, I should have seen that coming."
"Yes love, you should have." Sabine took his hand, and they went to meet their uninvited guests. A larger transport landed behind the X-Wings.
A familiar face hopped out of one X-Wing, Luke Skywalker. "Sabine, Ezra. Its good to see you two again."
"It has been too long Luke." Sabine smiled. "Now, what could possibly warrant a surprise visit?"
"Him." Luke said staring at Ezra.
"Him?" She questioned, looking at Ezra who focused his eyes on the ground.
"Yes. I really don't want to have to do this. Ezra Wren-Bridger, you are under arrest for crimes against the New Republic." Luke tried to be stern, but Ezra was still his friend.
"No. I'm not letting you take him. He just got home after being a slave for 2 months. He won't go with you." Sabine was now steadily getting angrier.
"You don't understand Sab…"
"No. You don't understand. The Sith implanted horrible visions in his head leaving him no choice but to seek him out. All he wanted was to save me, but when the Sith wanted him to kill me, he turned back. He came back to me, to his family. So, no Luke, you will not take him from me."
Ezra stopped her and looked up. He sighed. "I have no desire to be away from my family again. If you wish to hold me to trial, then it shall be here on Lothal."
"Ezra, you and I both know why that wouldn't be justified." Luke tried to reason.
"Then you won't get me. I can just as easy go back to Mandalorian space. Since they are not apart of the New Republic, you can't get to me. Even if you try, all of Clan Wren will come after you." Ezra stared down the shorter man.
"We can't have the trial here Ezra. It would be bias in your favor." Luke tried one last time.
Ezra motioned for Sabine to turn around and go inside, which surprisingly she did without question. "Then this is the last you will see of me for a while. I wish you and Mara Jade luck with the temple and the Jedi." With that, Ezra turned and followed his wife inside. "Oh, and Luke. May the Force be with you."
Luke, not wanting anymore bloodshed, told his squad to pull out. He knew Ezra wasn't joking, and the Mandalorians would not turn over one of their own.
As the squadron pulled out. Sabine turned back to Ezra. "Did you mean it? When you said we would go back to Krownest for good."
"Yes. I am not leaving my family again. I know that your mother and father will protect us if the New Republic wants me to atone for my wrongs. Usually I would be against running from this, but I know Mon Mothma. She will have me executed for crimes against the New Republic. When in all actuality, those that I killed were defectors of the Empire that had no allegiance and carried valuable info." Ezra placed a hand on her shoulder. "I'm not going anywhere, my love." The couple walked into the tower, ready to call Clan Wren.
The New Republic
Luke landed on the landing pad outside the Jedi temple. He needed to talk with Leia about what to do with Ezra. Since he had made it clear he was going to go to Mandalorian space, he needed to see what Mothma and Leia wanted to do. Walking into the senate building, he found Mara talking to Leia. Mara was very large in the middle. Leia was also pretty big too. Both women very noticeably pregnant. Leia had gotten the news that she was having twins, a boy and a girl. Mara was having a boy.
Luke walked up to the duo and kissed his wife's cheek. "How are you two doing?"
"Well it is easy to have someone in your situation." Mara smiled.
"I'm having twice the weight added on. How are we in the same situation?" Leia laughed.
"Well anyway, I have to speak with you and Mon Mothma about Ezra Bridger." Luke said as he collected the two women and walked to Mon Mothma's office.
They knocked on the door and the guard let them in. As they walked into Mothma's office, she stood to greet them. "Ah, Master Skywalker, how are you?"
"Good, Chancellor. I'm are good." Luke responded.
"And Mara, how are you? Pregnancy can't be easy."
"He gets heavier every day." Mara complained.
"You're one to talk." Leia chimed in.
"Anyway, we are here to talk to you about Ezra Bridger." Luke started.
"Ah, yes, did you find him?" Mothma asked.
"Yes ma'am, I did. He was very clear about either the trial be held on Lothal, or he was going back to Mandalorian space. I don't think it would be wise to try and pursue him there. In fact, I don't think it is wise to pursue him at all." Luke tried to reason, knowing it was in vain.
"I think you are wrong, Master Skywalker. He is a dangerous criminal, and he must be brought to justice. Although I had the pleasure of knowing him during the early day of the rebellion, it is obvious his time away has made him a threat." Mothma retorted. She really wasn't keen on the idea of having Bridger around if he was a threat to the New Republic.
"Chancellor, if I may. I encountered Ezra and Sabine on Lothal. She was very protective of him. She even explained his reasons behind what happened. He was threatened by a Sith lord and did what he had to so he could protect his family." Luke tried to protest.
"It matters not the reasons. What does matter is that he killed Imperial defectors that could have been helpful to rooting out the last bits of Imperial remnants. Skywalker, as Chancellor, I order you to intercept Bridger and return him and his family here for trial. When he is found guilty, he and his wife will both be charged with treason and the children sent to the temple on Yavin. Good day." Mothma ordered and then strutted out the room leaving her audience stunned.
"Luke, you can't do this. Ezra and Sabine are our friends. We can't just turn them over to her." Mara, still stunned, said to her husband.
"I know Mara, but you heard her, I have no choice. We are apart of the New Republic and we have to do as she asks." Luke looked down and grimaced. "We have to go after Ezra."
I know I made Mon Mothma very mean. She's kinda like Tarkin if you think about it. I wanted to set myself up for future chapters and I think her having this personality is the easiest way. As always, reviews are appreciated. Good day to you, Tb out.
