A MockingJay Story Part 1 Chapter 7
Katniss visited District 12 again. Her filming crew recorded the wreckage and images of what was left with Katniss standing over it. They took a break, eating their lunch by a river. Katniss started singing Hanging Tree is a soft yet pretty voice. Cressida filmed it to use for their propos.
Meanwhile in 5, there was a major riot. A dam was destroyed, knocking out the electricity across the nation. The capitol has to use generators to maintain any electricity.
Peeta was on screen again that evening during dinner in 13. He said the same thing, urging the rebels to stop. Beetee finally managed to hijack the footage on screen, not just across the districts, but all in the Capitol. It was only for a few moments, but Peeta saw it. He saw Katniss in 12. He was his home destroyed. He heard her voice.
"Katniss?" He asked.
Caesar tried to get Peeta back on track, but Peeta kept stumbling in his words. After a pause, he blurted that they capitol was planning an attack on 13, to obliterate them. Peeta was pulled off the screen, leaving the people in 13 speechless and scared.
President Coin ordered an evacuation down to the deep underground shelters. A loud alarm went off around the bunker.
Most residents went to the bunker immediately, without taking anything of theirs. When Katniss made it down there, she realized they were missing someone. Two someone's.
"Where's Prim?" She asked her mom.
"I haven't seen her." She said.
"I can't find Clara." Liam said.
"I bet Prim went back for her cat." Shay said. "Clara might have gone to help."
"Or for her stuff." Liam said. "Her toy or that book"
Katniss already dashed out of the safely room.
"Wait-" Her mom said.
A countdown went off with the alarm. There were only a few minutes left before the doors would shut, locking anyone else out who wasn't in the room.
"There's no time." Liam stressed.
"Let me find her." Finnick said.
"Why you?" Liam asked.
"I'm faster." He said, as if it was obvious. He ran out of the room before Liam could make another step out.
Katniss found Prim after running up several flights of stairs with her chubby cat in her arms.
Finnick ran past them.
"Still no sign of Clara?" Katniss asked.
"No. She might be hiding in her room." Finnick said.
Prim looked over to him. "Check my room too. And the common room."
Finnick nodded and ran up the stairs.
Katniss and Prim rushes down the stairs. The timer counted down. Three minutes left.
Finnick ran down the hallway, stumbling into Clara's room. It was empty. He ducked under the bed. Nothing.
He checked down the hall in the common room. He opened the cabinets and found her holding her knees.
"Clara." He said. He picked her up and carried out for her room as he ran down the hallway.
As he ran down the arias with her, she said "I thought the alarm meant the bad people were here."
"The bad people are everywhere," he said quietly.
Clara Journal Entry 4
We sat in the shelter for hours. It was so boring. This place usually is boring but this was very boring. Liam held me the whole time, not letting me do anywhere. Katniss and Prim played with the cat. It was funny. The cat is so cute. We stayed in that bunker forever. I felt like a whole day. I didn't have a good book to read or this journal to write in. I left it upstairs. I had to. But Prim did play would you rather with me and I spy. I like her games.
Gale and Liam left to retrieve the tributes taken by the capitol (well, not Enobaria, but the rest). Shay hugged Liam before he left, telling him "Be safe. Don't do anything stupid."
"I know." Liam said. "I'm doing this to bring Violet home. For me. For Clara. I should be the face she sees when she's rescued."
"It's been months. I can't believe we might actually see them again tomorrow." Shay said.
"10 months and 12 days." Liam said. "We're going to bring them all home-or here with us."
Shay giggled and smiled at him.
President Snow knew what Katniss or 13 was up to. He knew they were trying to retrieve their friends. In a video chat with Katniss, he told her and then left the chat, leaving Katniss to fear the worst.
Shay, Finnick, and Katniss waited outside the hospital room, linked to the hovercraft roof landing for hours. Having no idea if their friends or loved ones were alive, they were helpless. Anguish filled their bodies like an illness. Finnick threw up in a garbage pail. Shay sat between them, with tears down her cheeks. She quietly held Katniss and Finnick's hand. They let her, not pulling away, until the morning came.
