3rd Person P.O.V.
Harley tossed and turned in his sleep, eyebrows furrowed. He was sweating up a storm, grabbing onto the sheets and holding them tight in his fist. He thrashed around, sitting up quickly and trying to breathe.
The blond was terrified, stumbling blindly to the bathroom. He splashed cold water on his face, arms shaking. He took a deep breath, opening his eyes to look at his reflection. It was dark in the bathroom, but there was enough light for Harley to see a horrible, awful monster staring back at him. He let out a cry, clapping a hand over his mouth and sliding down against the cabinet.
How could he have done this? He loved Peter...
Peter yawned, stretching. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes, getting out of bed and heading downstairs in his pajamas, without a care in the world. Breakfast was already sitting on the table, Steve's cheesy scrambled eggs and thick slices of bacon adorning each plate.
"Mornin', Peter." The brunette looked up, smiling sleepily.
"Good morning." He grabbed a plate, sitting down and shoveling the food into his mouth. "Thanks Mr Rogers!" Steve shook his head, smiling.
"Kid, call me Steve. But you're welcome." Peter put the plate in the sink, running off to find Harley. The southern boy was still in his room, and Peter grinned, knocking loudly.
"If you don't respond in three seconds I'm coming in!" He sang, counting down before opening the door. "Harls!" Peter ran, jumping on the blond with a cheerful laugh.
"Hi, Peter..." Harley sighed. The smaller boy frowned. Harley usually called him "darlin'."
"What's wrong?" Peter got off of him, sitting next to his boyfriend. Harley refused to make eye contact, looking down at his lap.
"We need to talk."
"Yeah, sure, what's up?"
"I think we should break up." Peter's eyes widened. He hadn't been sure what to expect, but this certainly wasn't it.
"Wha-" he sputtered, shaking his head. "What? You're serious?" The brunette could feel his heart shatter into a million pieces.
"I'm serious." Harley still wouldn't look up. He didn't want to see the hurt on Peter's face, and he didn't want to show his own pain. The smaller boy stood up, hands balled into tight fists.
"Fine," he spat, holding back tears. "I guess I'll just leave you alone then. Goodbye, Harley." And with that final statement, Peter was gone, slamming Harley's door shut behind him. The blond let out a shaky breath, reminding himself that this was for the best. He was doing this for Peter.
Because Harley could never forgive himself if he actually did hurt Peter. He would do whatever it took to not hurt the smaller boy, even if that meant hurting himself in the process.
Peter paced around his room, letting out an angry cry and slamming his fist into the wall. It wasn't fair! Peter hadn't done anything wrong- at least, he hadn't thought he did...
He flopped down onto his bed, sighing. Why did this have to happen? Peter loved Harley... and he thought Harley loved him back. Apparently he was wrong.
It had been nearly a week since the breakup. Peter and Harley were both miserable, Peter was more angry and bitter, while Harley was on the sadder side. Everyone hated seeing them like this. It was obvious they missed each other, both boys wearing the other's hoodies.
"What do you think happened?" Steve questioned, speaking quietly. Both teens were sitting at the table, at opposite ends, refusing to look up.
"I don't know. They were so in love before..." Tony shook his head. "I'm going to ask Nat." He got up, heading to the training area, where he knew the spy would be honing her skills. He didn't see her at first, stepping backward in surprise when she dropped down in front of him.
"Yes?" She raised an eyebrow. Tony looked up in shock, pointing and sputtering incomprehensibly. "Tony."
"Uh... right, sorry. I came to ask if you knew why Harley and Peter broke up? They seemed so happy together, and it was so sudden..." Nat nodded.
"Neither of them have said anything to me about it. They've both been really... distant," she observed, frowning. "Clearly neither of them are over it. I assume you noticed that Peter's been wearing Harley's hoodie for nearly five days now? And Harley, he's wearing Peter's hoodies too, but at least he's been changing."
"I just don't know what to do! I had never seen two people more in love than them," Tony sighed, holding a hand to his head. Nat sighed.
"You can't do anything. It's not your business to mess with," she reminded. "You have to let them work it out on their own."
Peter balled his hand into a fist, knocking on Harley's door roughly. The southern boy opened the door, quickly moving out of Peter's way as the brunette stormed in angrily, webbing the door shut. Harley was nervous, unsure of what was going on.
"What are you doing?" He questioned, eyeing the smaller boy cautiously. Peter turned around swiftly, looking absolutely furious.
"Why. Why!? What was it? Was I not good enough for you? Did I do something wrong?" The hurt was clear in the brunette's voice, shining through the anger. "You broke up with me for no reason! You- you just left me!" He cried.
"Peter-"
"NO! I- I thought you loved me..." Peter turned away, hiding his face from Harley. "After everything... I trusted you, Harley. I told you about everything, no matter what. I was always honest with you!" He was shaking, wet hot tears making their way down his face.
"I know... it's... it's complicated." Peter scoffed, shaking his head.
"Yeah? What? What was so complicated!?" He let the tears fall, refusing to acknowledge them. His voice dropped to a heartbroken whisper. "You- you said we would fight through every hard time... that we would do it all together..." he sniffed, shaking his head with a bitter smile. "Remember that, asshole? Or is that 'complicated' too?" Harley stood there for a moment, completely silent. He fell to his knees, holding his shaky hands up in front of him. He squeezed his eyes shut, letting out a sob.
"I- I'M SORRY!" Harley cried. "I'm so, so sorry..." Peter was wide eyed, unsure of what to do.
"Harley." The blond looked up, blinking away tears. "Tell me why." Peter was struggling to keep his composure, feeling a heat behind his eyes.
"I had a nightmare..." Peter furrowed his eyebrows, scoffing.
"Seriously? A nightmare? That's not a reason, Harley." He shook his head, looking away. "Yknow, I thought that you were going to be honest with me, especially after all that... I guess I thought wrong." Harley shook his head frantically, lunging to grab Peter's hand.
"NO! It's the truth!" He insisted.
"Fine. Then what happened?" Harley took a shaky breath, letting go of Peter's hand to hug his chest.
"I hurt you..." he shuddered, closing his eyes. "I hurt you really bad. And you, you were screaming and begging me not to, but I couldn't stop. I-I couldn't control myself! And- and..." he took a large, heaving breath. "I can't let that happen to you. I don't want to hurt you..."
"What makes you think you would hurt me?" Peter wondered, frowning.
"I- I don't think I would, but..." Harley grimaced. "I didn't think he would ever hurt me..." Peter narrowed his eyes.
"Who's 'he?'"
"My ex," Harley muttered. Peter's expression softened.
"He hurt you?" The southern boy nodded miserably, looking down. Peter adjusted his web shooters, stretching and rolling his shoulders. "What's his name?"
"You don't- no, Peter, please don't get involved!" Harley cried, lunging to grab Peter's ankle.
"You don't want me to-"
"No, please," he insisted. "Don't." Peter sighed, pulling his web shooters off and sitting down on the bed.
"Ok, Harls." Harley got up from the floor, sitting next to Peter. "For the record, I wasn't going to kill him or anything. Just... a warning."
"Mhm. And would that warning include hurting him?" Peter nodded sheepishly. "That's not going to solve anything."
"I guess." They sat in silence for a few moments, air heavy. Peter was the first to break the silence.
"I'm sorry," he apologized, looking up at Harley. "For yelling at you. I didn't know..." The blond nodded, offering a grim smile.
"I'm sorry too, I should've told you." Peter sighed, leaning his head on Harley's shoulder.
"Are we good?" He questioned. Harley let out a soft chuckle, resting his head on top of Peter's.
"Yeah. Would you like to un-break up?" the smaller boy laughed, wrapping his arms around Harley.
"Un-break up," he giggled. "Yeah, Harls, that would be nice."
Another happy ending... hmm... kinda sus
Requests?
