It hurt... Everything hurt so badly. Her head hurt. Her body ached. Her heart filled with sorrow.

Clementine didn't know how long she had been there, sobbing brokenly on that cold, hard ground.

It seemed it had been long enough for her tears to stop flowing. In fact, despite her sadness, she had no tears left to cry. She was absolutely exhausted; it made her wish that everything was just a dream.

She wished so desperately that she could just wake up. That she could just wake up and hear a soothing voice say, "It was just a dream". A dream... No... A nightmare. An awful nightmare that she couldn't awaken from.

Maybe all of her life experiences over the past few years had just been part of a nightmare. A nightmare she was struggling to wake from.

Maybe she would wake up one day to a warm and protective embrace. She would hear the voice of her former guardian say, "It's just a bad dream, sweet-pea". She would feel his protective arms around her, shielding her from the evil of the world. A feeling the girl long for ever so much.

She was sleeping, she told herself, and she would wake up soon.

Maybe that was the reason that she struggled to sleep, the child thought. You can't sleep if you're already sleeping.

She wanted to believe that. But she knew that wasn't the case. She was wide awake and well aware that everything that had happened today was real. Everyone they had lost today, it really happened and she couldn't deny it. She had to live with all that she had been through, and seen, and loss. It hurt because the girl believed that she didn't even deserve to live.

She had lost two people who she deeply cared for, all thanks to Lilly. And she couldn't even kill the woman. She missed her change to stop a dangerous woman from destroying more lives. And she couldn't forgive herself for that.

The child forced her little body to her feet, wiping her tear streaked cheeks.

She looked to the gates of Richmond; hearing gunfire die down. Were Molly and the others really dead? Was it worth going back into those walls, just to see all the destruction? She didn't know. But her feet began moving on their own, propelling her forward as she tried to hold onto a small hope that some of her friends had survived. They had fought so hard to keep everyone safe. It couldn't have been for nothing.

The child trudged through the gates of Richmond, feeling sickened by the sight of bodies littering the ground. However, to her relieve none of the bodies were of those she loved.

The girl continued walking but flinched when someone grabbed her. She screamed and tried to struggle away, but heard a familiar voice say, "Clementine, stop. It's me."

"M-Molly?" The child gasped.

"Yeah, kiddo. Are you okay?" Molly asked the girl

Clementine couldn't bring herself to respond. But her actions spoke the words that were lost in her, as she threw herself into her guardian's arms. "S-She said you were dead!" The child whimpered. "Sh-She said..." The girl choked on sobs as she clung to her guardian.

"She lied, Clem. I'm okay. I'm okay, kiddo." Molly said, returning the girl's embrace.

"Kenny's dead! Fir-First Omid, now Kenny! Gi-Gill's hurt and- I- I don't know where everyone else is..." Clementine stammered. The child was hysterical, drawing in quick breaths as she cried.

"Clem...Calm down... just breathe..." Molly said. "You have to breathe, kid."

"I- I can't!" The girl said.

Molly frowned keeping the distraught child close, the girl was clearly in bad shape. Molly tried to comfort the girl, to help her calm down.

It took a while for the hysterical girl to be able to breathe normally again, without choking on sobs.

The girl eased her grip on her guardian.

"You okay, Clem?" Molly asked, though she already knew the answer. Her girl wasn't okay.

"No…" Clementine mumbled.

"It's gonna be okay, kiddo…"

"No, it's not… Look around us, nothing is going to be okay!" The child said.

"We're okay… And we're gonna get through this… Just like we always do…" Molly said.

Clementine didn't respond, she just lowered her head.

"Come on, Clem. Let's find the others…" Molly said.

"…Okay…" Clementine took the woman's hand and allowed her to lead her forward.

"Javi! Did you find them?" Tripp asked as he spotted Javier approaching.

"I… I did…" Javier answered.

"Well, how come I only see your nephew, where's your brother?" Conrad asked.

"I… He… David didn't make it." Javier sadly responded.

"Wh-What?" Conrad stuttered.

"God… Javi, I am so sorry…" Tripp said. "What happened?"

Gabe answered before Javier could. "He got bit… I could've helped him… I—"

"Gabe, no… It wasn't your fault, bud. Don't do that to yourself… I don't want you to carry around any guilt." Javier said.

Gabe lowered his head and said, "But I… I haven't done anything to help this whole time."

"That's not true, Gabe. You're always helpful." Javier said.

"You're just saying that…" Gabe said.

"No, bud. I really mean it. I'm proud of you. And I know David was too…" Javier said. "Don't blame yourself for anything. None of that was your fault."

"I… I guess…" Gabe muttered.

"We should see if we can find everyone else… They might have headed back to the hospital by now. I say we head there and find out." Tripp said.

"Yeah. That sounds like a plan." Javier said.

"Alright then. Let's get a move on." Tripp said.

Javier and Conrad nodded.

The group started walking, as they did, they noticed Gabe was silently trudging behind them.

"Come on, kid. Keep up." Tripp called back.

Gabe didn't respond.

Javier sighed a bit, his heart aching for the boy. He slowed down to walk at the boy's pace. He placed a comforting hand on his nephew's shoulder and said, "It's gonna be okay, bud…"

Gabe only kept quiet.

"We're gonna be okay…" He wanted to convince himself to believe his own words, just as much as he wanted to convince his nephew to do so.

"Clementine, Molly!" Vince sighed in relief when he noticed the two approaching.

"Are you guys okay?" Ava asked, looking concerned.

Clementine didn't bother to respond.

"Is she… alright?" Ava asked.

"It's been a shitty day for everyone…" Molly simply replied.

"Yeah… It has…" Vince said. "A real shitty day."

"Well at least we're alive… Even though… a lot of lives were lost today…" Jesus said.

"Too many lives were lost today…" Ava sighed.

"Kenny's dead…" Clementine suddenly announced.

"Wh-What?" Vince gasped.

"I-I saw him… He turned… I…" The child's voice cracked as she spoke. "I could've killed Lilly… if I wasn't so stupid. I should've killed her."

"Clem, stop." Molly said.

"I should have—"

"Shh…" Molly pulled the child into another hug, trying to calm her.

"Look, we should head back to the bunker… Were you out here alone, Clem?" Ava asked the girl.

"No… But everyone got split up…" The child's gaze fell to the ground as she muttered, "They're probably dead…"

"Hey, don't say that, Clem." Vince said.

"It's true…" The girl said.

"No, it's not…" Molly sighed.

Clementine just frowned, having mixed thoughts.

"We should look for the others… Then we'll head back to the bunker."

The group nodded in agreement.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Javier, Tripp, Conrad, and Gabe were all surprised to see the building was partially destroyed.

"Wh-What the fuck happened?" Tripp gasped.

"I don't know but it looks bad…" Conrad said.

"No shit! We gotta do something! Eleanor's in there!" Tripp exclaimed.

"So are Kate and Mari!" Javier said. "And everyone else."

"Fuck, fuck, fuck! We gotta do something! We gotta find a way inside." Tripp said.

"H-How do we know they're not already dead?" Gabe asked.

Tripp shot him a glare. "They're not dead, don't say that shit, kid."

Gabe frowned. "But—"

"They were in a bunker, bunkers are secure! They gotta be okay!" Tripp said. "They have to be."

"I- I hope so…" Gabe said.

"Just… find a way inside." Tripp huffed.

They all nodded and began searching around the remains of the building for a way inside. They spent several minutes attempting to find a way inside the hospital, before finally succeeding after spotting a hole in the wall which they broke more in order to fit through.

The upper level was practically destroyed including the entrance.

The group began to make their way through the hallway- if it could even be called that anymore.

"Please be okay…" Javier mumbled, hoping that Kate and Mariana were safe. That all of their people were safe.

They all hoped their people would be okay.

"Holy shit… What the fuck happened to him…?" Vince gasped as they spotted Kenny's corpse on the ground. They noticed the various stab wounds on his body and the bullet hole through his head.

"I- I told you… I told you he was dead…" Clementine shakily mumbled.

"Fuck… Clem, don't look…" Molly said.

"I already saw him…" Clementine whispered.

"Well, you don't need to see anymore." Molly said.

"I-I saw him turn… One of Lilly's people shot him…" Clementine said. "Lilly killed him… I know she did."

"He… He could be an asshole, but he didn't deserve this." Ava frowned at the sight.

"No one deserves this…" Jesus said.

"First Omid, now Kenny… Damn it…" Vince huffed.

"We just gotta find the others and make sure they're okay…" Molly said.

The others knew she was right. With some hesitation they group proceeded on, searching for the others.

Bodies littered the ground; geeks roamed the streets. Smoke polluted the air as fires burnt buildings. Several buildings had been destroyed, supplies had been looted and destroyed as well.

A town and its population had been wiped out in a heartbeat.

Vince couldn't help but be reminded of the destruction Wellington had faced.

"How did it come to this…?" Ava muttered. "I never expected people I knew to be involved in… in something like this."

"I guess you didn't know them as well as you thought you did." Molly said.

"I guess not…" Ava frowned. "Fuck… I can't believe this happened…"

"Come on, let's keep moving." Molly urged.

The group continued searching for the others for a while but eventually decided to try looking at the hospital, hoping they had gone back there.

Upon reaching the hospital they were all shocked by its condition. The group became even more disheartened.

"Holy shit, what the fuck happened here?" Vince inquired.

"I don't know… But… we need to find the others." Molly said.

"There's a way inside." Clementine said, pointing to the hole in the wall.

"Good eye, kid." Molly said.

The group carefully approached the hole and made their way into the building one by one. They cautiously walked down the hall and headed towards the bunker that was in the basement.

They could hear voices as they approached the bunker, which they quickly recognized.

As they got closer, they noticed Javier, Conrad, Tripp, and Gabe trying to get into the bunker.

The cover of the bunker had been destroyed, most likely by some kind of bomb and blocks of rubble had crashed down in the bunker, making it impossible to get out.

"You guys, thank God you're alive!" Conrad said.

"Yeah, it's good to see you too." Molly replied.

"The others are trapped in there." Javier explained.

"We'll get them out." Molly said.

Ava rose a brow upon seeing Javier, wondering why David hadn't come with him. He wasn't the type to sit around and let other people work. It seemed out of character for him to stay put in the bunker. Regardless, she kept her thoughts to herself.

The group began to work on clearing away rubble and debris to help free anyone who was trapped inside. They could only hope everyone was okay.

As they cleared more of the debris, they could hear crying from inside, most likely from AJ and Genevieve.

They eventually managed to make enough open space to free the others.

As they came into view the guards aimed weapons in their direction.

"Take it easy. We're here to help." Vince said.

"They're with us." Eleanor said.

"Jesus?" One of the guards looked to him for confirmation that things were okay.

"They're fine. They're good people…" Jesus reassured.

"Alright then…" One of the guards said, motioning for the others to lower their weapons. The other guards obliged and lowered their guns.

They were relieved to see their group was safe, but they needed to get out of the bunker.

Clementine made her way over to Gill with some hesitation. "I-Is he okay?" She asked Randy and Patricia.

"He's gonna be fine, sweetie. He'll be fine." Patricia said.

Clementine looked to Eleanor for reassurance.

"She's right. He's gonna be just fine." Eleanor said.

Clementine sighed in relief. "Thank God…"

"What about Luke?" Molly asked.

"He's… not looking so good…" Eleanor admitted with a sigh.

"Fuck…" Molly sighed as well.

"I'm doing my best with him." Eleanor said.

"Well, you'll have to do your best somewhere else. We need to get out of this place, right now." Ava said.

"Wh-Where's Kenny?" Sarita asked, looking concerned as she didn't see him.

"And my daddy… Where is he?" Mariana asked.

Gabe frowned and tried to break the news to the girl. "M-Mari… I… Dad—"

"Look, we'll explain everything later, this building is falling apart. It's not safe to stay here." Molly spoke up.

"But- But I need to know where Kenny is… Is he okay…?" Sarita questioned.

There was a silence the Clementine broke it.

"He-He's dead…" Clementine said, fighting tears. "I'm so sorry, Sarita."

"He's…. what?" Sarita's eyes widened in horror at the child's words. "H-He's WHAT?"

Clementine flinched, but readied to repeat herself. "He's—"

"No- NO! He can't be gone! He can't be dead!" Sarita cried in horror.

"I'm so sorry…" Clementine said, feeling guilt grip at her heart.

"We have to move. It's not safe in here." Ava said.

"Well it's not safe out there either. There's a war going on." Christa grumbled.

"The gunshots stopped." Eleanor pointed out.

"For now. That doesn't mean it's over." Christa retorted.

"Well, we can't stay here. This place is falling apart. Unless you people want to be buried alive. We have to leave." Ava said.

"We can find another safe spot. We'll be fine." Molly assured the group.

"...Fine. Let's go..." Christa said.

"How- How could this happen? W-Why did this happen?" Sarita sobbed out, devastated by the news she heard.

"Sarita, I know you're upset. You have every right to be. You're grieving and your feelings are completely valid." Shel said. "But we can't stay here. We have to get moving… For AJ's sake."

Sarita gave a nod of understanding, through her broken sobs.

AJ began whimpering a bit and then started crying along with her.

"How about I take the baby…?" Kate offered.

"N-No." Sarita quickly shook her head.

"You're upset… I just… I think someone else should take him for a bit and calm him down." Kate said.

Sarita still refused.

"That might actually be a good idea." Shel said.

Sarita took a step away from them. "No. I- I got him."

Shel frowned; the woman was in a full defensive mode. "Are you sure? I can—"

"I can hold him…" Clementine spoke up.

"Are you sure, kiddo?" Molly looked to the girl.

"Yeah…" Clementine nodded. "I can hold him."

To everyone's surprise Sarita gave a hesitant nod. "…Okay…" Sarita gave in. She trusted the little girl to hold him more than anyone else right now.

Clementine held her arms out and Sarita gently placed the boy in her grip. The young girl rocked him a bit, and AJ immediately ceased crying to the other's surprise.

"He-He really likes you…" Sarita said, brushing tears away, though more just continued to flow.

"I'm glad… Hey there, Goofball…" Clementine smiled at the baby.

"Come on everyone. Let's get a move on." Molly said.

The group started to make their way out of the bunker and down the hall, helping along their injured members. They exited the hospital through the hole in the wall, everyone feeling anxious the whole way.

Upon getting outside they searched around for any threats. Things were quiet for the most part. They noticed a few geeks roaming around a bit away from them, but the gunfire had definitely stopped.

"We should handle the geeks. We can't take any risk. We've lost enough people today…" Molly said.

The others nodded.

Molly, Vince, Jesus, and some of the guards went to deal with the undead creatures, while the others stayed a safe distance back.

Clementine rocked AJ in her arms, still hearing Sarita's soft cries. The child felt horrible for her. And for Christa, and Javier's family. They had lost too many people, and losing people never got easier. It was awful.

AJ looked up to the girl, gently cooing in her arms.

"I'm sorry about Kenny, Goofball… He… He deserved better…" Clementine frowned. "You've lost a lot of people too… You deserve better… But you're gonna be okay, I promise."

As she held little AJ, she couldn't help but wonder how things would have been if she had had her baby. Would it have been a girl or a boy? Would it have been friends with AJ and Genevieve. Would it… grow up to be like Carver…?

She quickly shook that last thought away, telling herself she never would have let that happen.

She knew a pregnancy would have been hard on her body, and that she was young to become a mother, but part of her wished that she had gotten to meet her baby, to hold her baby, to have someone to love her forever…

"Clementine, can we talk…?" Randy's voice pulled the girl out of her thoughts.

The girl flinched a bit from his sudden question. Not knowing what to expect, Clementine looked to him, with a guilty expression. "I- I'm sorry about Gill… I know you're mad, but—"

"No… I… None of that was your fault… I just reacted how I did in the heat of the moment, and I should have never treated you like that. You didn't do anything wrong."

"Yes, I did… If I had handed myself over… None of this would have happened. This is my fault. It's all my fault." Clementine said.

"Hey, don't do that to yourself, Clementine. None of this is your fault. Don't put this on you." Shel piped up.

"But…It's my fault…" The child murmured.

Shel shook her head, "No, Clem. It's not."

"Look, kid… I just… I wanted to apologize to you. I was way out of line. I know you were worried about Gill, and… I had no right to say what I did." Randy said.

"What exactly did you say to her?" Christa asked.

Randy paused, "I—"

"Wh-What? Th-That can't be true! Daddy has to come back…!" Mariana's little voice suddenly exclaimed.

"I'm sorry, Mari… I wish it wasn't true… I wish he would come back." Gabe said, fighting his own tears as Mariana cried over their father.

Kate frowned and went to comfort the young girl.

Clementine bit her lip feeling awful once again. She couldn't help but wonder why this had happened.

It wasn't long before the others finished dealing with the undead and made their ways over.

"What do we do now?" Eleanor asked.

"Maybe it's time to quit this place." Vince said.

"No… We don't have to do that." Molly said.

"Are you kidding? Take a look around you. This place is fucked. There's no way we can stay here." Tripp said.

The fighting was over, any survivors of Lilly's group had retreated to their strongholds, at Lilly's order. But the damage was done. And it was devastating.

"We can… I know it looks bad, but this place isn't worth giving up on. It'll take a lot of work, but we can try to rebuild this place. It was a home to a lot of people, and it can still be a home if we make it work." Molly said.

"A lot of work is an understatement. It'll take forever to rebuild this place." Conrad said.

"But we can do it… If we all work together." Shel said.

"We could try…" Molly said.

"We have kids though. They need shelter." Christa huffed. "Most of these buildings are destroyed."

"Most, but not all." Jesus said.

"I don't see a place in livable condition." Christa argued.

"We'll make it livable." Molly said. "We can't just leave. Where else would we go?"

No one responded. They didn't know where else to go.

"It's better to rebuild this place than to try to start over somewhere else. Besides, if we leave this town, there's no guarantee that we'll find shelter for the kids." Molly said.

"I guess that's true." Shel said.

"Yeah… you make a good point…" Vince sighed.

"Can we talk about this somewhere else? I don't feel comfortable being out in the open like this." Christa huffed.

The others agreed, Molly looked to the guards and asked, "Is there anywhere you can think of to bring everyone?"

One of the guards gave a nod. "We have a church, towards the back of town. It should be safe there…"

"Hopefully those assholes didn't get to it." Vince muttered.

With the next destination chosen, the group proceeded towards the church, hoping that it would be safe there.

Upon reaching the building the group felt some of their worries alleviated as they noticed the place was still in keen condition.

They made their way into the building and before long they got settled in.

Randy gently placed Gill on one of the pews to rest and the adults gathered around to talk, beside Javier and Kate who were occupied with comforting Gabe and Mariana.

Everyone was examined for wounds, by Eleanor and other medics.

Eleanor hummed as she checked Clementine over. "You said you hit your head...?"

"Uh-huh... When I was driving..." Clementine said.

"I hope you weren't under the influence." Eleanor tried to crack a joke.

The girl looked confused at her attempt.

"Just... Nevermind... Bad joke." Eleanor said. "So... Are you feeling okay?"

"I feel dead inside..." Clementine said.

"Physically, I mean..." Eleanor said.

"Yeah... I'm fine..." Clementine replied.

"Does she seem fine?" Molly asked, knowing her girl would claim she was okay even if she wasn't.

"She should be... I would say she has a mild concussion, but she should be okay..." Eleanor said. "You might have a headache for a bit."

"I'm starting to get used to pain..." Clementine responded.

"You shouldn't have to get used to that." Molly said.

Clementine sighed, not responding. Instead she asked, "Is Luke going to be okay...?"

"I... I can't really answer that... But I promise you, I'll do my best." Eleanor said.

"If you can't answer my question, please don't make any promises." Clementine said. "Promises are always broken..."

Molly and Eleanor were taken aback by her words.

But the young girl stood and walked off.

Molly sighed, "I'm sorry about her..."

"It's fine... She's been through a lot..." Eleanor said.

"Yeah... We all have." Molly said.

"She'll be okay..." Eleanor said.

"I know..."

"Just try not to worry much." Eleanor said, then walked off to converse with Tripp.

Molly looked over to Clementine who was gently holding AJ, deciding to give the girl space for now.

Clementine sighed, rocking AJ in her arms, as she was still holding the child. "It's been a bad day, Goofball. A really bad day…"

AJ gave a tiny yawn, resting his head against the young girl's shoulder.

"You're sleepy, bud?" Clementine asked. "Hopefully you can sleep the day off. I don't think anyone else will be able to sleep tonight…"

"Cl-Clem?" A sudden voice grabbed her attention.

"Gill?" Clementine perked up upon hearing her friend's voice, she noticed the boy approaching her and was happy to see he was up and moving. "A-Are you okay?"

"Y-Yeah… It just hurts a little. And I'm tired…" Gill said. "Are you okay? I was worried about you."

Clementine didn't say a word she just hugged the boy, while still holding little AJ.

Gill returned the hug. "I'm glad you're okay…"

"I am too." Clementine said.

AJ whimpered a bit and Clementine broke the hug.

"Sorry... he's tired..." She began rocking him, which immediately calmed him down.

"You're good with him." Gill commented.

"Thanks... I've never really held babies before. I was an only child." Clementine said.

"Well, you're doing a good job. At least I think so." Gill said.

Clementine smiled at that. "Thanks, Gill."

Silence fell over the two. Clementine continued to rock AJ as the baby started to drift off.

Clementine looked to AJ's little face and suddenly sighed.

"You okay?" Gill asked.

"Yeah... Yeah I'm fine... I just..." She paused hesitating to speak.

Gill didn't push her.

"I almost had one..."

"What?" Gill questioned.

"A baby..." Clementine explained. "I almost had one."

Gill's jaw nearly dropped; eyes widen with shock. "You... You almost had a baby? What do you mean, Clem?"

"I was pregnant." Clementine said.

"P-Pregnant... but you're just a kid..." Gill stammered in shock.

"It was after we escaped from Howe's. I kept getting sick, but I didn't know why..." Clementine explained. "I told you about the bad people at Howe's… how they hurt me…"

"Y-Yeah… You told me…"

"When we got away from that place, and I got sick… the others were worried. Molly gave me a test… A pregnancy test, and she told me it was negative." Clementine explained.

"Negative… So that means you weren't—"

"She didn't tell the truth…" Clementine said. "She told me I wasn't pregnant, but I was… Her and Jane… They… gave me something, to make me have… have an abortion… So, my baby died…"

Gill felt his heart ache. "Oh my gosh… Clem… I- I had no idea that you went through all that…"

"I know… I didn't tell anyone for a reason… It's not the most pleasant thing to talk about… But then again, a lot of things in my past aren't pleasant to talk about…" Clementine said.

"I'm sorry, Clem…" Gill said.

"It makes me sad… sometimes, when I think about it… But maybe one day, when I'm older, I'll actually have one…"

"Much older, right?"

"Yeah…" Clementine nodded than muttered, "Someone to love me forever."

Gill sighed and took a seat beside his friend, wrapping a comforting around her shoulders.

Meanwhile, many of the adults had gathered around to discuss their plans. Everyone was still on edge but having some idea of what to do would help to ease the tension.

"We lost our leaders, what are we going to do?" One of the guards said.

"Do we need a leader?" Conrad asked.

"The structure helped our people to feel more comfortable." Tripp said.

"We could have multiple leaders, instead of just an individual leader." Molly suggested.

"That's a good idea… But who's willing to take on that role?" Jesus asked.

"I think Molly should do it… She's capable." Ava said.

"Yeah, she's gotten us out of a lot of situations before." Shel said.

Molly sighed, "I guess, I'm down. Since I'm the one pushing to stay in Richmond anyway."

"That's one leader." Vince said.

"I think you'd make a good one, Vince." Shel suggested.

"What?" Vince was taken aback.

"I think you could handle leadership; you always did a lot to support every group we've been with." Shel said.

"Yeah… I second that." Becca said.

"I don't know." Vince was hesitant.

"You can handle it." Molly urged.

Vince gave in. "Alright then…"

"Leader number two has been named." Ava said.

"What about you, Ava?" Molly asked.

Ava paused and then sighed. "I'd have to refuse… I've always been better with things behind the scenes… But… David… I think he was a good leader… Maybe it runs in the family… You have a good heart Javier; I think you could do some good things…"

"Me?" Javier was surprised. "Are you sure about that?"

"Yeah, you don't give yourself enough credit. You kept your family together for so long, kept them alive. Only a real leader could do that…" Ava said. "David would be proud."

"Kate…?" Javier looked to her, wondering what her thoughts were.

"Go ahead… I think you can do it." Kate said.

Javier nodded. "…Okay…"

"We had four leaders in our group… I think four should be enough…" Ava said.

"One more then." Molly said. "Tripp, you ran a town before…"

"I did… But you saw how things ended up… I don't know if I can do that again. Now so soon…" Tripp said. "I think I'm gonna stick to the sidelines."

"Understood…" Molly said.

"What about you, Jesus?" Javier asked.

"Huh? Oh… As much as I appreciate the offer, I can't accept it…" Jesus said.

"Why's that?" Molly asked him.

"I have people, friends that are out there… And no plans on stay too long… I can help you folks start rebuilding, but after that… I'll be moving on." Jesus said.

"We understand, Jesus…" Molly said. "Anyone else wants to volunteer?"

Silence filled the air.

Vince soon spoke, "How about Shel?"

"Wh-What?" Shel was surprise, despite having put him on the spot earlier.

"You'd be great as a leader, Shel." Becca said.

"I… don't know…" Shel said.

"I think it'd be nice to have you on board." Molly said. "I could use your help to keep us leveled."

Shel sighed, not speaking for a while.

The others looked to her expectantly.

"…Okay…" Shel finally said.

The others were glad to hear this.

"Well, I'm glad that's set." Molly said.

The group felt comfortable with their decision on leaders, knowing they were a group of people that wouldn't clash among each other, and they would have everyone's best interest in mind.

"We're gonna rebuild the place. And it's gonna take so much work, but we can handle it." Molly said.

The others nodded in agreement.

"It's been a long day… Let's just try to take the rest of the day easy…" Ava said.

"If only…" Vince mumbled.

"…I should check in on Clem." Molly stood and started to walk away.

Randy however stood and followed her. "Molly, wait… I'm sure your girl already talked to you… but I wanted to apologize… for what I said to her."

"What?"

"I wanted to apologize—"

"What did you say to her?" Molly asked.

"She... She didn't tell you?" Randy was surprised.

"She didn't tell me anything about you." Molly said. "What did you do to my girl…?"

"I…" Randy paused, lowering his gaze.

"What did you do to her?" Molly inquired, "Tell me. Now."

"I just… said some harsh things that I shouldn't have said. I regret it. It was heat of the moment, Gill was injured and I—"

"…I get it… Look, my girl didn't say anything to me, so that means she probably forgives you. But if you say something wrong to her ever again, I won't let you off scot-free. That little girl's been through enough." Molly said.

"I know she's gone through hell…" Randy said.

"Way more than you could imagine. And I don't need anyone putting her through more." Molly said.

"I won't." Randy said.

"Good…" With that, Molly went to check in on Clementine.

As she approached, she noticed Clementine rocking a sleeping AJ while Gill sat beside her.

"Hey there, you two... how are you doing?" Molly asked the kids.

"Okay... I guess." Clementine said.

"What about you Gill? Feeling any better?" Molly asked the boy.

"Yeah. I'm fine..." Gill replied.

"That's good." Molly noticed things felt a bit awkward with the two kids. And the silence didn't help much.

"Uh...How's AJ?" Molly asked Clementine.

"He's good. He's just sleeping." Clementine said.

"Cool. Cool. Do you want someone else to take the baby?" Molly asked.

"No... I got him." Clementine declined.

"You sure?" Molly asked.

Clementine nodded. "Uh-huh..."

"Alright, Clem... I just wanted to check in on you." Molly said.

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me." Clementine said.

"I always worry about you." Molly told the girl.

"I know... but you shouldn't." Clementine replied.

"Hey, it's my job to worry about you, kiddo." Molly said.

"Like it would have been my job to worry about my baby..." Clementine muttered under her breath.

"What...?" Molly asked, not having heard her clearly.

"Nothing..." Clementine quickly said.

"Clem… I can read you like a book. I know something's wrong…" Molly said. "Talk to me, kid…"

Clementine was silent, averting her gaze. Molly couldn't help but feel concerned.

"Clem…"

"I don't want to talk." Clementine said.

"I think we should though…" Molly replied.

Clementine frowned and went back to being silent.

"I- I should give you two some space." Gill said.

"Gill…" Clementine frowned, not wanting him to go.

"I think you should talk to her, Clem." Gill said.

"But…" Clementine trailed off and then sighed. "…Okay…"

Gill gave her a small smile as if to reassure her that she would be okay.

Clementine returned the smile.

The boy then walked off, leaving Molly, Clementine, and little, sleeping, AJ.

"Alright, kiddo. What's on your mind?" Molly asked her.

When Clementine didn't say anything, Molly had to fight the urge to groan in frustration.

"Talk to me, kid. I can't help you if you don't talk to me. Are you pissed at me?" Molly asked.

"Maybe… A little." Clementine admitted.

"Okay… We're getting somewhere…" Molly said. "Why are you pissed at me, Clem?"

"Why did you make me… have an a-abortion?" Clementine asked her.

"I... You weren't ready to have a baby, Clem."

"Why couldn't I make the choice?! I wanted my baby!" Clementine exclaimed, but tried her best to calm herself as AJ whimpered a bit.

"You're a child, Clem… You couldn't make that decision… You weren't ready for a baby." Molly said.

Clementine shushed AJ, rocking him. She muttered out, "…I wanted to be a mom."

"You're still a kid, Clementine…"

"I wanted to love someone." Clementine said.

"You still can. Everyone can be loved." Molly said.

"I wanted someone to love me..." Clementine continued.

"You are loved, kiddo. You know that." Molly said. "So many people love you."

Clementine was quiet for a while, then muttered, "…I'm sorry for being angry..."

"I'm sorry too." Molly said. "We're going to be okay, alright…"

"…Yeah… Okay…"

As day shifted into night, the group ate bowls of canned food, and then did their best to settle down.

The group did their best to try to get some sleep. But it was a struggle. Everyone was tensed and on edge after the earlier attack. No one was sleeping that night. Not after what they had been through.

Eventually some of the group members fell asleep, though many of them remained awake, lost in thought. Javier and Kate were among the people who were having trouble sleeping.

Kate could tell Javier was bothered by everything that had happened. "Javi… If you're feeling any guilt... Bury it. I mean it. Don't let it eat you up inside."

"He was my brother, Kate- my blood. He was my responsibility, and I failed." Javier said.

"You didn't fail anyone… You did the best you could." Kate said.

"I guess…"

"Well, I know…" Kate said.

Silent fell over them for a while.

"You know, usually, the quiet scares me." Kate said.

"What about now?" Javier said.

"There's a lot of work to be done. A herd of walkers could come through… Anything could happen… Still, though, I feel more calm here than...than I ever did in an old van on streets with no streetlights. We earned this, Javi. We earned feeling calm in the quiet. And... we're going to have a family soon. A baby... A fresh start. I think it'd be good for us." Kate said.

"Yeah... I'm just worried about the kids... Mari and Gabe... they've been through so much." Javier said back.

"They'll be okay... We'll be here for them. Just like always." Kate said.

"I know… I just… They deserve better…" Javier sighed. "They've been through so much hell…"

"They're gonna be okay. We'll make sure of that."

"Yeah…" Javier sighed. "…I… I'm gonna step outside for a bit. I need some air..."

Kate didn't protest, she knew he was going through a lot.

Javier stands and walked towards the front door of the church. When he opens the door and steps outside, he is a bit surprised to see Conrad sitting on the church steps, reading from a book.

"And yet death was not something you could ignore. It had its weight. It seemed to her she had better not form the practice of ignoring death. If she tried it, death would find a way to answer back- it would take another of her loved ones, to remind her to respect it."

"Hey…" Javier greets. "What's that you're reading?"

Conrad looked to him and answers, "Oh, some old book Francine always tried to get me to read. Cowboys and shit like that. Told her it wasn't my style. She would insist, though. Huh! And I'd insist right back otherwise."

"Hmm, maybe I'll give it a read, if you don't mind." Javier said.

"Not at all. Once I'm done anyway." Conrad said.

"Thanks." Javier said.

"No problem." Conrad replied.

A brief silence fell over them.

"…Long day huh?" Conrad spoke.

"Too long..."

"Maybe you should turn in for the night." Conrad suggested.

Javier shook his head. "I don't think I'll be getting any sleep if I do."

"Yeah... I don't think any of us will be..." Conrad agreed with a sigh.

A brief silence fell then Javier spoke, "Conrad…"

"Hmm?"

"…About Francine."

Conrad stopped him before he could finish. "She's in a better place. I know that. That's what matters."

"...Right..."

"Same with your brother." Conrad said.

Javier sounded unsure. "I want to believe that..."

"You don't have to. Just don't blame yourself for anything." Conrad said.

Javier didn't respond.

"I'm gonna turn in for the night." Conrad closed his book. "See you later."

"See you..." Javier said.

Conrad retreated inside, leaving Javier to his thoughts.

Javier sighed, trying to shake away any guilt he felt. But it was so much easier said than done.

Eleanor stayed up throughout the night, monitoring Luke's condition. The woman went from having mild concern, to growing more anxious with each hour that passed. Luke seemed to be getting worse. And he had a fever that wouldn't go down. A clear sign of infection.

When morning came, and Luke's fever had not gone down, Eleanor was even more concerned.

Molly and some of the others set out to clear the town of geeks. After several hours at work, they returned to the church.

The woman couldn't help but jump when Molly spoke, having not noticed the other woman approach.

"How's he doing?" Molly asked.

"Not good... He has a really high fever. Possibly an infection and I've done my best to tend to the wound but... things don't look good for him." Eleanor informed the other woman.

"Fuck..."

"Yeah…" Eleanor sighed. "You know… Clem's not taking things well. She... she's having a hard time."

"What?"

"She was sitting with Luke for a while, asked if he was okay. I was honest and told her, I didn't know if he would be. After that she just went to sit out back, haven't seen her for a good while." Eleanor said.

"Damn it... I'll go check on her." Molly said.

"Yeah. You do that." Eleanor nodded.

Molly nodded and headed outside to check in on Clementine. When she got to the back of the church, she noticed the young girl sitting on the steps, staring into the distance. "Clem? Are you okay? How long have you been out here?"

"I don't know… I lost track of time…" Clementine answered.

"Where's AJ?" Molly asked.

"Sarita has him. She wanted to hold him." Clementine said.

"Oh… Well… What are you doing out here, kiddo?" Molly asked the girl.

"I'm… Just thinking…." Clementine replied.

"About what?"

"About how life can be so unfair." Was the girl's response.

"Clem…"

"Luke's not gonna make it, is he?" Clementine asked.

"Why do you say that?" Molly said.

"Because I can just tell… He doesn't look good… He's gonna die, isn't he…?" Clementine asked.

"Don't say that, Clem… Eleanor can fix him up." Molly said, trying to be hopeful.

"Eleanor's a doctor, not a miracle worker… Some people can't be saved… Like Kenny, and Omid… And David…" Clementine said.

Molly sighed at the child's word. "Hey, I can't promise you that Luke's gonna be okay… but let's just try to stay positive and hope for the best, okay?"

"…Okay…"

"That's my girl. Come on, let's head back inside." Molly said.

Clementine didn't protest to Molly's words. She simply allowed her guardian to lead her inside the church.

Hours seemed to past and Luke's condition wasn't making an improvement. Everyone was on edge. And worried he would turn.

Tension filled the area, as they tried their best not to panic.

It wasn't until nightfall when Luke's eyes finally fluttered open, a pained groan escaping his lips as he tried his best to sit up.

"Take it easy. You're in bad shape." Eleanor said.

"Wh-Where's Clem? And... And Sarah?" Luke weakly questioned.

"They're eating dinner with the rest of the group. I can get them for you." Eleanor said.

Luke nodded. "Please..."

Eleanor gave a nod. "Just sit tight. Try not to move around much."

"Okay..." Luke breathed out.

Eleanor then walked off to find the young girls.

When she spotted them, she spoke, "Clem, Sarah... Luke wants to speak with you."

"What about?" Molly asked.

"I don't know..." Eleanor said.

"Well, considering this is all his fault. I don't think that's a good idea." Christa huffed.

"He's not doing well." Eleanor reminded. "Whatever he says could be his last words."

The group exchanged looks at this, moods dropping more. Even though Luke had screw up, he didn't deserve this.

"I want to talk to him." Clementine said.

"M-Me too." Sarah said.

"Alright girls… You can talk to him." Molly said.

Molly and Eleanor escorted the girls to where Luke was laying on one of the pews, pale as a ghost and sick looking.

"L-Luke…" Sarah frowned, seeing his condition.

"Clem, Sarah… I… I just… wanted to see you two…" Luke said. "I wanted to talk to you…"

"We're here…" Clementine said. "What's wrong?"

"I wanted to apologize." Luke said.

"Apologize?" Sarah asked.

"Yeah…" Luke said.

"Apologize for what?" Sarah questioned.

"For everything… I never meant for anything of this to happen…" Luke said. "Things had been…. They had been going so well… back at the cabin…"

Sarah lowered her head at the thought of the cabin. Almost everyone from their former group was gone, including her own father.

"I wish it could have stayed that way…" Luke said.

"I- I do too… I miss my dad… I miss everyone…" Sarah said.

"I'm so sorry, for what happened to Carlos, Sarah." Luke said. "I… I wished I could've helped, I- I wish I could have done something. Carlos didn't deserve to die… And you… you shouldn't have to be without your father."

Sarah whimpered a bit, fighting back tears.

"And Clem, I… I'm sorry for always bringing trouble your way. I've put you in some shitty situations. You went through things a kid should never have to go through… and I could've prevented it… If I wasn't so blind and trusting…You wouldn't have had to suffer through any of the hell you faced. We should've just… took off. We shouldn't have stayed at the lodge… Or… at least, you and Molly could have gotten away… I had no intentions of dragging you into our shit…"

Clementine bit her lip, not knowing how to respond to this.

"I never thought things would come to this… I feel like a piece of shit. I've been the cause of so many problems. I know you might not forgive me, but it's all I can give… for whatever it may be worth, I'm sorry…" Luke said.

Clementine sighed, "I… I can't forgive you for all you've done… But… thank you… for the apology…"

Luke simply nodded in response. "Thanks for listening."

"Yeah…" Clementine muttered.

"You should get some more rest. You've been through a lot…" Eleanor said.

"We all have." Luke said.

"True, but you're still hurt… Try to rest…" Eleanor said.

Luke nodded in agreement. "I'll try…"

"Good…" Eleanor said.

Clementine and Sarah walked away, leaving Luke to rest.

"You're gonna be okay." Molly said to Luke.

"I want to believe that…" Luke muttered in response.

"You will be." Molly replied.

Luke stayed silent but spoke just before Molly could walk off. "Molly… I'm sorry…"

Molly paused, looking over her should at him. "I know…" Was her response before walking off to check on the girls and leaving a guilt-ridden Luke to his own thoughts.

Another day had passed, and Luke wasn't doing any better.

At the time when he had first gotten hurt, he was not considered to be fatally injured, but now he continued to get worse. And it became apparent that the damage he sustained was more several than anyone had expected.

Luke was clinging to life and fading quickly.

Two more days went by before he finally succumbed to his injuries, despite Eleanor's desperate attempts to save him.

There were tears when he passed, from Sarah and Clementine.

The mood was glum among everyone in the church. They had just lost another person, who deserved so much better.

Life really was unfair.

Over the next few days, they group gathered the bodies of the people killed during the attack. And they had a large funeral for the fallen.

They buried their loved ones and burnt the others.

Many tears have been shed by all who were in attendance as they grieved and mourned the loss of their loved ones.

Jesus led the funeral for them, honoring the fallen, speaking words on how this may hurt but they would heal.

It was hard to believe healing would be possible after what they had been through.

Very few people spoke words during the service.

It was silent of words, only the broken sobs of the broken people could be heard through the town.

A town that was ruined by a woman filled with rage. A town that was destroyed because of selfish wishes and desires. A town that once sheltered and homed the innocent people they were currently honoring. A town that shouldn't have been targeted.

This attack had left a scar in Richmond and all of the people there. It had left a mark that none of them would ever forget. No matter how much they may have wanted to forget.

After the funeral they were saddened and distraught by the traumatic events they had endured.

They were saddened by each other's sadness.

Their pain, even time couldn't heal, but they had to move forward. And they had a long road ahead of them.

Days went by and the group began rebuilding the town. They spend their days cleaning out homes and working to fix the damage, and their nights trying to sleep, still on edge from the attack.

As the days progressed and became weeks, the reconstruction of Richmond progressed as well. establishing rules to keep everyone safe. The group continued rebuilding and settling back into a state of somewhat normality, for what was deemed normal in the world they lived it.

As time went on families were able to return to their once wrecked homes and once again have a roof over their head.

The people adjusted to their life in Richmond, with their new leaders.

Molly and the others set in new rules, and much like everywhere they went, Clementine quickly took up responsibility, doing her best to help her guardian.

Jesus decided the time was good as any for him to move on. He knew with the leaders they now had the people of Richmond would be okay...

"Alright folks... I think it's time for me to hit the road." Jesus told the group members.

"You're really heading out?" Javier asked.

"Yes, indeed. I think we've put an end to the raiding. Glad we got it settled. And it looks like building this place is going well. Gotta move on." Jesus said.

"We lost a lot. We may have helped fix things, but... There was a cost to it all." Javier sighed.

"There usually is...unfortunately..." Jesus said.

"We appreciate all your help Jesus. And if you ever change your mind, there's always a place for you here." Shel said.

"Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I won't forget you folks. Promise to take care of yourselves. And each other." Jesus said.

"We will." Vince said.

"That's good... I think good things can be done here. These people have good leaders to look up to. Just don't let that power corrupt you." Jesus said. "Second chances are in short supply these days. That's what this place can be, if you let it. Trust me, though, life within walls is a hell of a lot different than life on the road. Don't take shortcuts. You gotta do the right thing. Always. Good days, and especially bad. Change is in the air here. You can lead that change the right way... or the wrong way. Give these people hope for tomorrow... God knows this town could use it."

Clementine hummed letting his words sink in.

Jesus noticed how she had been intently listening to him. He spoke, "I'm sure you'll help keep these folks in check?"

Clementine was a bit surprised when he addressed her, but the child nodded. "I'll do my best."

"That's exactly what a good leader does. Don't ever forget to do your best." Jesus said.

"I... don't think I'd make a good leader..." Clementine said.

"Nonsense. You have to qualities of a good leader. I'm sure everyone would appreciate your wisdom." Jesus said.

Clementine gave a small smile at that. "Thank you..."

"Alright... you all take care. I mean that... you're good people... meeting good people is rare." Jesus said.

"Too rare." Molly said.

Jesus nodded.

"Take care of yourself, Jesus." Molly said.

"Will do." Jesus replied.

After bidding goodbyes, Jesus headed off. Leaving behind his best wishes, and hope for the town to see brighter days.

Weeks continued to drift by and Jesus insinuation that Clementine would become a leader seemed to come true. As Kate's pregnancy progressed, Javier's told a temporary step back from leadership, focusing on making sure Kate was okay.

He made the suggestion the Clementine fill in for him, shocking many people. However, Javier, Molly and the other group members were confident that the young girl could handle it.

And with their urging Clementine agreed, becoming Molly's second in command alongside Ava, despite the girl's young age.

But with the responsibility, came pressure. And with the pressure came worry. Tricky questions gripped the girl's mind, keeping her pondering during the day and wide-eyed at night.

Young Clementine couldn't stop thinking about Jesus's words.

"Don't let that power corrupt you..."

Though things were going well, the girl couldn't help but think about what ifs. She was fearful of what might happen in the future.

Did power really corrupt people? Had that been what happened with Carver? Had he been different before...

Would having power change the people she loved in a bad way?

The thoughts of that possibility left the girl feeling any overwhelming amount of terror.

Unable to keep her feelings to herself, Clementine finally decided to voice her concerns to Molly. She needed some reassurance that they would handle things, that they would do things the right way…

"Molly, can we talk about something?"

"Of course, kiddo." Molly said. "Is everything okay?"

"I… I'm just worried…" Clementine told her.

"About what?"

"I just… keep thinking about Howe's…" Clementine said.

Molly frowned at that. "What about Howe's?"

"About… How Carver was… I keep wondering how he got that way… Bonnie and the others said he wasn't always like that… I don't know if that's true, but…I know I don't want to become like him." Clementine said.

"Hey, you would never become like Carver…" Molly said. "No one here would be like him."

"Power makes people do scary things… It makes people corrupt." Clementine said.

"Only if people allow it to corrupt them." Molly said.

Clementine furrowed her brows but waited for her to continue.

"Power can make people do scary things, if they let it… But power is a privilege. And… it shouldn't be used to exert control over people." Molly said.

"But isn't that what a leader does…? They… take control…" Clementine said.

"A leader is a guide. People are still in control of their own choices and lives." Molly said. "The thing is… power doesn't really change a person. It reveals a person's true self."

"Their true self?"

"Exactly. How a person handles power depends on who they were before they had it. They shouldn't dramatically change from how they were before." Molly said.

"But people change all the time. This world forces people to change." Clementine said.

"People adapt… And they do change, in different ways, but they choose how they change. Power doesn't change people; people choose to change." Molly said. "A leader has to be self-aware. There's a saying that goes... "Control is not leadership; management is not leadership; leadership is leadership." Leadership is much more than having power over people. It's being able to guide and direct them. A great leader is someone who inspires others to follow in their example. Carver wasn't a good leader… He was self-absorbed. He lost himself. That won't happen with us."

"I really hope not…" Clementine said.

"We've been through so much, and no matter what, we always have made it through, haven't we?" Molly said.

"Yeah..."

"And we're going to be fine. I swear to you, kiddo. We'll be just fine." Molly reassured her.

"Okay... I... I believe you." Clementine said.

"Good."

Clementine felt a bit reassured, after speaking with Molly. She just needed to shut out "what ifs", to forget about Carver, and believe that they would be just fine.

Weeks begin to shift into months, and they had made good progress with the restoration of the town. The violence that had been poured upon them was over. It was now a time for healing, a time to rebuild homes and families.

They managed to restock food and supplies, by sending out hunting parties and making runs to other towns to gather any necessities.

They would back and forth between towns, building up the town more and more.

Eventually they had readied enough homes for people to move out of the church.

Clementine was glad that things seemed to be going well.

During her free time Clementine would hang out with her friends.

However, during her hangouts she noticed quickly that the Gabe and Gill still did not get along, only this time, she knew why. She knew they both had feelings for her, but she was still confused on her own feelings.

She had already expressed her confusion to them and had thought they would be okay with it. They had been understanding at first, but now… it seemed things were changing for the worse. And it wasn't long before things came crashing to a head and the two friends ending up in a full-blown fight. Things had escalated from a playful teasing, to name calling, and finally fist being thrown.

Clementine was torn at what to do. She had never wanted any of this to happen. She just wanted everyone to get along.

After some advice seeking, Molly suggested she talk to both boy, and Clementine did just that.

Upon confronting them about their fight, Gill became apologetic immediately. Gabe, however, claimed he was not in the wrong.

After several days filled with awkwardness, Clementine finally came to terms with what she had to do. With reluctance, the girl approached Gabe and informed him in a straightforward manner that she wanted to talk.

"There's nothing to talk about…" Gabe huffed.

"Gabe, please… Just listen to me…" Clementine pleaded. "Please…"

"Why, Clem?" So, you can tell me, that you don't like me…?" Gabe scoffed. "Yeah, I know that already…"

"That's not what I'm trying to do…" Clementine said.

"Are you sure? Because it feels like you're just trying to throw it in my face that you don't like me." Gabe said.

"That's not true. Gabe, I do like you. As a friend. And I just want you to understand and respect that." Clementine said. "We've both been through a lot, and I think instead of focusing on me... you should take time to grieve... And if you need me. I will always be here for you. As a friend."

"But... not more than that..." Gabe huffed.

"...I'm sorry..."

Gabe sighed, realizing he was being harsh. "No... I am... I shouldn't be pushing you... You're right we both lost a lot... we should take time to grieve... And I'm glad you're here for me... as a friend."

Clementine gave a tiny smile.

"But Clem... If you ever change your mind... don't hesitate to tell me..." Gabe said. "I... Won't push you anymore."

Clementine was relieved to hear that. It felt like a weight had been lifted off of her. "Thank you..."

Gabe simply nodded in response. Although his feelings for her were strong, he would settle for friendship. It was better than not having her around at all.

"And... swear to me something..." Clementine said.

"What?"

"No more fighting with Gill. Please."

Gabe paused at those words.

"Please." Clementine repeated.

Gabe bit back a sigh. "I swear.

"Good. Thank you, Gabe."

Gabe nodded. But only for her sake would he try to be pleasant...

When things had settled down again, Clementine went back to hanging out with her friends. She began spending more and more time with Gill in particular as Gabe seemed to pull away a bit.

It bothered her at first, but she knew he needed time.

She was glad that Gill was so understanding and patient with her.

Clementine smile as she held Gill's hand, as they boy walked her back home. "Thanks for hanging out with me today."

"I like hanging out with you." Gill said.

"I'm glad." Clementine said. "I like hanging out with you too."

"I miss seeing each other everyday. Like when we were in the church." Gill said.

"Yeah... I miss it too." Clementine said. After a brief pause, she said, "…I should get inside. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah. Tomorrow."

Clementine turned to head inside only for Gill to once again take her hand.

"Clem, wait,"

"What is it-?"

Before she could get another word out the girl suddenly felt lips against hers and gasped, mix feelings flooding through her as she pulled back. "I- I have to go!" She stammered; face completely flushed.

She rushed inside the little home she and Molly shared and slammed the door. The girl took a few deep breaths heart pounding. Gill had just kissed her. And… And she had liked it... She had moved away fast, but she couldn't deny that she had actually enjoyed the kiss. Was there something wrong with her? Was she a whore for liking the kiss?

She felt so confused in that moment. She didn't know what to do.

The girl avoided Gill for the next few days, still unsure of her own feelings. She knew Gill was hurt by her behavior, but she couldn't help it. She felt so nervous around him suddenly.

The girl finally decided to go to the one person who always offered her advice. Molly.

"I- I don't know what to do… H-He kissed me… A-And I-"

"He kissed you?" Molly asked.

"Y-Yes…" Clementine nodded.

"Really?"

"R-Really… Bu-But that's not the worse part!" The girl stressed.

"Worse part?"

"He-He kissed me, and- and—" Clementine took a breath, face flushing. "And… I… I liked it…"

Molly was surprised to hear the child admit that. "You liked it?"

"Uh-huh..."

"It sounds to me like you like him." Molly said.

"I- I don't know... I think I might..." Clementine replied.

"And it's okay to like someone. So, what's the problem?" Molly asked.

"The problem is, I don't know what to do about him." Clementine said.

"What do you mean?" Molly asked.

"About Gill what should I do about him?" Clementine said. "I'm not ready for that... kissing... that stuff makes me nervous."

"Maybe you should tell him… You're both still you… You're only thirteen…" Molly said.

"Tell him?" Clementine asked.

"Yeah." Molly said.

"But what if... what if he gets upset?" Clementine asked.

"I doubt he will... but if he does, he does. It's your life and you should do what makes you happy." Molly said.

"I guess so…" Clementine said.

"Well it's something to think about, kiddo." Molly said..

"Yeah… " Clementine said. "…Molly… thanks for always listening to me."

"Anytime, kid. Anytime."

The next day Clementine decided to take her guardian's advice and speak with Gill.

She was nervous when she saw the boy but still spoke to him. "Gill, can we talk…?"

"Of course… I figured you didn't want to talk to me anymore…" Gill said.

"No… I do… I'm sorry if I've been… weird lately." Clementine sighed.

"I'm sorry if I made things weird…" Gill said.

"You don't have to be sorry for anything…" Clementine sighed. "Gill… you… You are one of my closest friends. In fact, I think you are my closest friend. My best friend. I trust you almost more than anyone else… Well, beside Molly… It's always been hard for me to trust people, but… I really trust you… Which is why, I hope you can understand how I'm feeling when I say… I'm not ready for that stuff… I'm not ready for kissing, or anything like that… I just want to be friends… And I hope you want that too… Because I really care about you, Gill."

"I get it…" Gill said.

"Y-You do…?"

"Yeah… And… I'm not gonna to push you into anything… I like you, Clem… You know that… But… I'll wait, until you know what you want. Maybe one day… we could be together… Or maybe we'll just always be friends. No matter what, as long as you're in my life. I'm happy." Gill said.

Clementine smiled at that, feeling her heart warm. She hugged the boy suddenly. "Thank you, Gill…"

Gill returned the hug.

Clementine was so glad to have him around. She couldn't ask for a better friend.

A year had passed, and the town was thriving, but traces of their past still remained. Marks of violence and death still haunted them. The reminder of the destruction that fell upon them never faded.

The rubble left of a destroyed street and buildings kept them unable to forget.

And today was a day they all wanted to forget. Yet the memories felt engraved in Clementine's mind.

The girl sighed as her feet carried her forward.

"Clem?" She stopped upon hearing her name and looked to see someone she hadn't seem in a while.

"Gill?"

"Hey, how's it going? I haven't seen you in a bit…" Gill said.

"Yeah… I've been keeping busy." Clementine said.

"I can tell…" Gill said. "Where are you heading?"

"To… To the church… To pay my respects… Today's… the day that…" Clementine replied.

Gill sighed, knowing what she meant. It had been exactly a year since that devastating attack. "Mind if I tag along?"

"No. Not at all." Clementine said.

"Cool."

The two began the walk to the church in silence.

Upon reaching the church the two noticed Javier and Mariana just as they were leaving and greeted them.

"Javi... Mari, hey..." Clementine greeted.

Mariana gave small wave while Javier spoke. "Hey, Clem. Gill."

"Hey." Gill said. Things were always a bit awkward when he was around Gabe's family. Especially after their fight.

"How are you, Javi?" Clementine asked.

"I'm alright Clem. Mari and I came to pay our respects..." Javier said.

"Yeah... I'm here to do the same... Where's Gabe?" Clementine asked.

"Back home... this is all... still hard for him to handle." Javier replied.

"I don't blame him." Clementine said. "Umm… How's the baby?"

"He's great. He's growing up so fast." Javier said.

"I bet. I remember when he was wee-tiny." Clementine said.

"Yeah. Well, the sleepless nights are worth it... I couldn't be more proud to have him." Javier said.

Clementine gave a faint smile at that. She wondered if she would have felt that pride with her baby... "That's... nice..."

"Well, I won't keep you. I'll see you around Clem." Javier said.

Clementine nodded and Javier walked off.

Gill watched the girl's expression and placed at light hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah... it's just hard...talking about babies sometimes." Clementine said.

Gill gave a sad nod of understanding. "Yeah... I know..."

The two made it to the front of the church and sat on one of the pews.

They could hear a few light cries from people who came to honor or mourn their loved ones. Then silence. They didn't know how long they stayed there, but eventually they were the only two left in the church.

"It's strange... It feels like just yesterday when we were playing card games in the back of this place... trying to forget all the bad shit." Gill said.

"The shit that never should have happened... None of this should have happened! Nobody had to die!" Clementine snapped.

Gill jumped, a bit surprised by her sudden outburst. "Clem—"

"This is all Lilly's fault, and what did she get out of it? Absolutely nothing! Her people are dead too. All because she wanted to go on a selfish power trip and destroy the lives of innocent people. People who didn't deserve it. People who only tried to protect their own!" Clementine continued her angry rant, feeling tears prick the corners of her eyes. "If I- If I see her again, I'll kill her. I hate her! I hate her! I HATE her!"

Tears began to fall, and Gill felt awful for the girl.

"Clem... Clem, calm down..." Gill said to the crying girl, his heart clenching for her. "Everything's going to be alright."

"Don't tell me everything's going to be alright! Everything is not alright! Nothing is ever alright..."

Gill frowned and embraced the distraught girl in a hug. "Clem... I know you're upset... and you have every reason to be, but I'm here for you and no matter what happens I promise you, everything is going to be alright."

Clementine met his gaze. "S-Swear... don't promise."

"I swear."

In that moment Clementine didn't know what had possessed her, but she suddenly found herself moving in close and pressing her lips against his.

Gill was stunned by this and froze for a moment. When she broke away, he stammered. "C-Clem- I- I-"

"Shh... Don't speak..." The girl suddenly kissed him again. And Gill felt his heart melt.

Clementine broke the kiss once more with a tiny smile, feeling that maybe things just might be alright after all.
