Silver Beast: After Prom

Seeing that the lights were still on in the front of the house Kagome unhooked the lock on the door and stepped inside.

"How was prom?" Alice smiled as she watched Inuyasha carefully set Kagome's feet down on the tile floor.

"So much fun." Kagome smiled as she chucked her heels into the shoe bin by the front door. "Is it alright if Inuyasha stays over and watches a movie?"

"So long as you keep the volume down." Alice frowned as she looked at the clock on the wall. "It's almost midnight."

"We'll keep it quiet." Kagome promised as she pointed down the hall. "I'm going to change out of my dress. If you want to get comfortable in your street clothes there's a bathroom on the other side of the kitchen."

"Good idea wench." Inuyasha smirked as he picked up his backpack and trudged down the hall.

"Mom? Can you help me unclasp my dress?" Kagome asked as she walked into her room across the hall.

"Sure honey." Alice smiled as she closed Kagome's bedroom door and undid the fastening at the top of her dress. "So? Did Inuyasha sweep you off your feet?"

"Yeah… I really like him mom." Kagome blushed with a shy smile.

"I had a feeling you did." Alice smiled as she helped her daughter out of her dress. "Just be careful. Feelings can sometimes get the better of us. Just promise me you'll wait to give yourself fully to him until after your 18th."

"Mom…" Kagome sighed.

"I mean it young lady. Your powers must reach maturity before offering your virgins blood. I know he's special to you but just in case he's not the one, please wait?" Alice pleaded.

"Fine, I promise to not give my virginity to Inuyasha before my 18th. After that, I give no promises. I'll be an adult so what happens between my boyfriend and I is our business." Kagome sighed as she quickly shook out her hair from its pins and tied it up into a messy bun. "I just hope if he does end up being my mate that he doesn't reject me."

"He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to do that, but it wouldn't hurt to have some reservation just in case." Alice agreed as she opened the door. "Have you heard from your brother?"

"No, but prom is supposed to be over here soon." Kagome said as she cleaned her face of makeup.

"Just make sure to lock up when he gets home." Alice said. "If Inuyasha wants to stay the night he is welcome to sleep on the couch. Just don't do anything inappropriate out of respect for your grandpa."

"Really? You don't mind?" Kagome asked.

"Of course, I don't feel comfortable sending him home this late on his motorcycle. Just try not to stay up too late watching movies sweetie. We've got plans to go to the lake tomorrow remember?" Alice said as she opened the door.

"Oh yeah… I forgot about that. Can Inuyasha come with us?" Kagome asked as she followed her mom into the kitchen.

"I don't see why not." Alice shrugged.

"Great! Thanks mom." Kagome said just as Inuyasha came out of the bathroom.

"Of course honey." Alice smiled as she kissed Kagome on the forehead. "Night Inuyasha."

"Oh, uh… night?" Inuyasha blinked in surprise.

"Come help me pick out a movie." Kagome said as she opened one of the unpackaged boxes in the living room.

"Keh, I already told you wench. I'm cool with anything but girly movies." Inuyasha scoffed as he peered over her shoulder to look inside the box.

"Even old classics like Tim Burton's, Batman Returns?" Kagome asked as she pulled out the old vhs cassette tape.

"Hell yeah. I remember this one. It's got Danny DeVitto playing Penguin right?" Inuyasha smirked as he looked at the beat up paper cover.

"Yeah, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Cat Woman and Michael Keaton as Batman." Kagome said as she went to plug in the old vhs player.

"It's been ages since I last watched it." Inuyasha said as he handed her the tape.

"Want me to make some popcorn?" Kagome asked.

"Sure." Inuyasha nodded as he sat on the couch and watched the previous recorded advertisements on the cassette. "Gods these ads are so old…"

"I know. The graphics on some of them are really bad too." Kagome giggled as she popped open the microwave. "You just have to laugh at them I suppose and appreciate how times have made things better."

"Or worse." Inuyasha said, making her frown. "Sometimes the movies are too real. It makes it hard to differentiate between fiction and reality."

"I know what you mean." Kagome sighed as she poured the popcorn into the bowl. "It takes the fun out of imagination."

"Hey guys!" Sota said as he opened the front door.

"You look like you had fun." Kagome smirked when she took in his sloppy appearance.

His hair was standing up on one side like someone's fingers had been tangled in it and his buttoned down shirt was untucked from his belt. The top few buttons were unfastened near his collar and his tie was hanging limply in his hand.

"Yeah, it got way too hot in that room." Sota sighed as he ran his fingers in the exact spot his hair was standing up. "If the Reservation ever has another party like that they're going to have to figure out a better way to keep everyone cool."

"No kidding." Kagome chuckled as she poured them some drinks.

"Hurry up wench! It's starting." Inuyasha called as the iconic batman symbol popped up on the TV screen.

"What Batman movie are you watching?" Sota asked as Kagome snuggled under the blanket beside Inuyasha on the couch.

"Batman Returns." Kagome said as Inuyasha popped a piece of popcorn into his mouth. "Want to watch it with us?"

"Nah, I'm bushed." Sota yawned. "I want to be well rested for tomorrow."

"What's tomorrow?" Inuyasha asked as the movie continued to roll on the TV.

"We're going to the beach near the pier. Want to come with us?" Kagome asked, making him stiffen.

"No, I'll pass." Inuyasha said making both Kagome and Sota frown.

"Something wrong with the pier to make you not want to go?" Sota asked.

"Just, bad memories there… that's all." Inuyasha said, making Kagome rub his arm knowingly.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking. Maybe we can hang out later this week?" Kagome asked as Sota waved them goodnight.

"I'd like that." Inuyasha smiled before slinging his arm around her shoulder and tucking her head under his chin.

As they watched the movie they sat snuggled up under a blanket with Kagome tucked up against his side. They fit perfectly against each other, like two puzzle pieces. It felt good to be together like this and it brought a gentle smile to both of their faces. The warmth of their bodies was comfortable, inviting… safe even. With the addition of the blanket and the hours they'd spent dancing at prom it quickly had their eyes growing heavy. They barely made it to the part in the movie where Michelle Pfeiffer blows up the shopping center when they'd fallen asleep. It wasn't until around 6:30 later that morning that Inuyasha stirred from his sleep.

"Oh! I'm sorry Inuyasha." Grandpa Bob chuckled quietly when he dimmed the light in the kitchen. "I didn't realize you had stayed the night."

"That's alright." Inuyasha answered groggily as he ran his hands down his face. "It wasn't planned."

His eyes were still red and itchy from sleep and his hair was matted on one side from slouching against the couch cushion. He smiled softly when he felt the weight of his girlfriend still blissfully sleeping on his chest.

"Hm, I'd say so unless you normally wear jeans to bed." Grandpa Bob chuckled as he noticed Inuyasha's wrinkled day clothes.

"Definitely not." Inuyasha agreed as the smell of coffee filled his senses. "Mind if I have a cup for the road?"

"Not at all." Grandpa Bob said as he filled up a styrofoam cup for him to take. "Will you be joining us later at the pier today?"

"Unfortunately not." Inuyasha frowned as he carefully slipped out from under Kagome and walked into the kitchen. "I've had a few too many bad experiences there with humans for my taste."

"Understandable." Grandpa Bob nodded as he handed Inuyasha the steaming cup of joe. "Seeing how you will live much longer than humans, perhaps in a couple decades you can go back?"

"That is true, but the memories will last forever." Inuyasha said as he knelt down beside the couch and gently shook Kagome awake.

"Hm?" Kagome hummed as she struggled to open her eyes.

"Hey… I'm going to head out. Text me later?" Inuyasha asked as he tenderly brushed Kagome's bangs back on her forehead.

"Alright, just be careful going home ok?" Kagome said as she sat up to hug him goodbye.

"Will do." Inuyasha smiled gently before kissing her sweetly on the lips.

As Kagome watched her boyfriend slip out the door Grandpa Bob watched the two of them from the kitchen with a knowing smile hidden behind his coffee mug.
