The sounds of battle went through every street in Republic City. In every corner there was a bender or non-bender facing every foot-bot that he found. It was a battle with elements and martial arts.
The battle seemed pretty even, as the foot-bots proved to be so agile and fast that they managed to hurt some of the allied side, but the benders were capable of destroying almost a dozen with their respective elements, while the non-benders were having an equal battle with the enemy.
On one of those streets, Shredder was walking quietly as if nothing was happening around him. Every time someone approached him, he killed him with his claws, and every time a bender threw a respective element at him, he easily dodged the attack as he ran towards him and killed him.
Suddenly, he felt a presence coming towards him from behind and turned quickly to block a blade with his claws, discovering that the blade holder was none other than Splinter.
With a push, Shredder pushed his eternal rival away from him.
"So, here we are again, Hamato Yoshi." Shredder said.
"Saki, our war is between you and me. Why do you involve this whole city?" asked Splinter.
"Whoever allies with my enemy is also my enemy." said Shredder before noticing something out of the corner of his eye and jumping back in time to avoid a blast of wind.
He looked to his left to see Tenzin enter the scene.
"We finally see each other's faces, Shredder." Tenzin said.
"You must be master Tenzin, the son of the previous Avatar. I must say you disappoint me." said Shredder.
"You're not one to talk about it." said Tenzin.
Before Shredder could answer, he noticed a series of icicles coming from his right, but he managed to block them and break them all with his claws.
It was then that, from that direction, Tonraq entered the scene throwing the leader of the Foot a look of anger.
"Who are you?" asked Shredder.
"I am Tonraq, chief of the Southern Water Tribe and father of Korra." said Tonraq.
"So, you're the Avatar's father, huh? Then I will make sure that she witnesses your death." said Shredder.
"I won't let you hurt her! She's not a weapon for you to use! I'll make sure you pay for what you did to her!" said Tonraq expressing his anger at the leader of the Foot.
"Very well. In that case..." began Shredder before raising his arms a little, causing a slight gust of wind to surround him, demonstrating his new power of airbending. "I will use my new power to claim your lives!"
The mutant rat and the two benders prepared to face the greatest enemy of all who now possessed a higher power.
Near the spiritual zone of the city, Leo jumped aside to avoid Tiger Claw's laser shots. He lunged at him with the intention of cutting him with his katanas, but the mutant tiger was able to block the attack with his machete before pushing him away.
"When this is over, I will tear your skin from your body and use it as a carpet." said Tiger Claw.
"Wouldn't it be the other way around?" asked Leo before jumping up to him and kicking him in the face with both feet, causing him to stumble backwards.
Leo jumped back up to him, but Tiger Claw activated his jet pack and rose high in the air before swooping down on the mutant turtle with his machete ready. Fortunately, Leo was able to block the attack with his katana, although he couldn't avoid being pushed back by the initial thrusting force. Both mutants looked at each other while they were at a standstill.
"You'll never beat me on your own." said Tiger Claw.
Suddenly, a kick hit him in the face, causing him to back up and land on the ground.
Soon after, Karai landed next to her brother.
"Then it's a good thing he isn't alone." Karai said, drawing her sword.
The two brothers looked at the mutant tiger recovering from the assault and preparing to attack again.
"What do you say we beat up that cat?" Leo asked.
"You read my mind." said Karai before the two charged at the enemy.
In Republic City's main park, Raph was busy fighting a pair of foot-bots, but he eliminated them by cutting them up and impaling them with his sais.
"Is that all? That was just a warm-up." Raph said.
Without him noticing, bubbles showed up in the lake water, he also didn't realize that Fishface jumped out of the water and by the time he realized it, he was kicked by the mutant fish's metal legs.
"You know? I was wondering when you'd show up." Raph said, standing up.
"Oh, I'm glad to know you were thinking about me." said Fishface before noticing an incoming fireball that he managed to dodge by jumping backwards.
Both mutants looked to the side to see Mako approaching with his fists ready to fire.
"Come any closer and you'll be fried fish." Mako said, wrapping his fists in fire.
"Lucky you showed up. I have things to work out with you too." said Fishface pulling out his butterfly knife.
Near the Pro-Control arena, Mikey was moving back and forth, dodging Rahzar's claw cuts.
"Ja. Too slow." Mikey said, dodging another attack by the mutant dog before jumping into a lamppost.
"Stop running and face me, you coward." Rahzar said angrily.
"I'm sorry, but I'm tired of playing 'chase the dog'." said Mikey.
"Yes." Rahzar turned his head to the side to see Bolin trampling the ground and lifting several rocks into the air. "Now let's play 'catch the ball'." said Bolin before he threw all the rocks at the enemy.
The attack was so sudden that Rahzar was hit by all the rocks and buried on a pile of them.
Bolin and Mikey high-fived their work.
"Well done, B." Mikey said.
"Yeah, we taught that dog a lesson." said Bolin.
But then, the rocks shook a bit before Rahzar emerged from the pile while roaring, like an erupting volcano.
"DON'T CALL ME A DOG!" Rahzar shouted before jumping to them, but, fortunately, they dodged the attack.
The mutant turtle and the earthbender prepared to fight the mutant dog.
At the Future Industries facility, Asami used her staff as a pole to get up to Stockman's height and kick him, but the mutant fly stepped aside to avoid it.
He then spat several acid balls at Donnie, but stepped aside to avoid them and then threw a couple of shurikens at him, which resulted in his injury.
"That's all you got, Bistir Stusman?" Asami asked, purposely misspelling his name to provoke him.
"It'zzzz Baxter ZZZZtockman! And no, I have an ace up my zzzzleeve." said Stockman before pressing a button on his backpack.
The next moment, he was wearing the armor he had on when he first encountered the turtles.
"Great. Of all the things I could bring, it had to be that." Donnie said.
"Is it that bad?" asked Asami.
Stockman raised his metal arms with the intention of hitting them, but the two jumped back from Stockman's target site, where a crater formed on impact, to the engineer's surprise at the strength of the armor.
"No, it's worse." Donnie said.
Several benders launched several attacks on Rocksteady, but the mutant rhino seemed to resist all attacks.
"That was your strength? I'll show you what true strength is." Rocksteady declared with a sinister smile before hitting the benders with his hammer, sickle, and horn.
Before he could continue, a gust of wind pushed him from behind, knocking him down.
When he stood up and turned around, he saw April and Ikki coming into the picture.
April turned to see the remaining benders in the area.
"Go away and help those you can. We'll take care of him." April said.
"Are you sure? He looks pretty strong." said one firebender holding on to an injured arm.
"Trust us. Go away!" said Ikki.
Normally they wouldn't leave two girls behind to face a tough monster, but they knew she was Tenzin's daughter, so she must have been very strong. Unable to do anything else, the benders left the area, leaving only the two girls and the mutant.
"Ha-ha-ha. Are you kidding? What can two little girls do against someone like Rocksteady?" Rocksteady asked.
"Why don't you come over and find out?" asked April, pulling out her tessen.
"That's right. Or are you too stupid to do that?" asked Ikki, preparing to fight.
Rocksteady let out air from his nostrils at the insult. "Very well. Then I will crush your heads like blueberries." said Rocksteady before charging the two girls.
Several benders and non-benders confronted Bebop, but the mutant boar dodged every attack with dance moves before firing lasers from his palms and pelvis, hitting them all.
"Hey, isn't there anyone who can give me a good challenge?" Bebop asked.
Suddenly, in front of him, he saw several discs being pushed by an air current. They were going so fast that he didn't have time to react and ended up being hit and knocked to the ground on his back. When he got up, he saw that Casey and Meelo were responsible.
"Do you want a challenge? We can give it to you." Casey said.
"I said 'challenge,' not 'child's play'." Bebop said.
"What's the matter? Don't you have the courage to stand up to us?" asked Meelo.
"It's okay. If that's what you want, I'll make your heads explode!" Bebop said before sending a Mohawk shell to the two boys.
Meelo sent a gust of wind toward the incoming projectile, causing an explosion strong enough to push both sides.
"Okay. This may be harder than we thought." Casey said.
On one street, Kuvira was smashing as many foot-bots as she could with her earth and metalbending. For some reason, even though they were metal beings, they were immune to their powers. Perhaps it was due to the fact that they were from another world or that they were made of a different material than what she had seen.
A couple of minutes later, she got rid of all the foot-bots in the area. Kuvira was panting a bit due to the effort of knocking down a large number of enemies.
"Kuvira, is that you?" asked a voice vaguely familiar to the metalbender, but which she could recognize as someone she knew and who had mentioned him before.
But the moment she turned around; a shocked expression formed on her face.
"Hakan, what have you done to yourself?" Kuvira asked in shock.
The general in front of her who had been serving her for years now looked totally different. His size had increased to ten feet tall, his feet had become hooves and the hair covered his entire body, although he was still wearing pants and metal shoulder pads, but what was completely different was his bull's head which had two large horns.
"It is a surprise to see her again, Great Unifier." said Hakan.
"It is also a surprise for me. You've changed a lot since the last time." said Kuvira, putting aside her shock to show her former subordinate a serious face.
"I know. During her absence, I met a man who could help us with our plans. He was the one who gave me what I needed to gain more power." Hakan said.
"So, this is the power of the mutagen? It's certainly more amazing than I thought." thought Kuvira. "Hakan, why are you doing this? This isn't what I wanted." began Kuvira trying to talk some sense into him.
"You wanted to invade Republic City. This is just another way of doing it." said Hakan.
"This isn't an invasion; it is an annihilation!" said Kuvira.
"A small sacrifice to achieve our plans." Hakan said as if he didn't care about life.
It was at this point that Kuvira realized that her former subordinate was worse off than she could have imagined.
"I give you a final order, Hakan! Surrender to Avatar Korra and you will be treated fairly." said Kuvira.
Hakan's eyes opened with horror at the orders of the woman he had been faithfully serving.
"What? What are you saying? Do you know what I had to do to get here? To set you free and fulfill your destiny as the Great Unifier? YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF ME!" said Hakan with anger rising by the moment.
"No. I am ashamed of you." said Kuvira.
Hakan was beginning to snort through his nose in anger, but before anyone else could do anything else, they noticed a gust of wind beside him. They turned to see Opal arriving in the area and she didn't seem happy.
"I knew it! You were trying to betray us! They should never have taken you out of that cell!" Opal said angrily to the metalbender.
"You're wrong, I wasn't trying to..." began Kuvira.
"TRAITOR!" shouted Hakan, raising his arms and lowering them quickly to crush their former leader.
Kuvira managed to get away before the mutated general's fists hit the ground, leaving a crater in the process.
"Hakan, stop now!" Kuvira ordered using a last attempt.
"No. Hakan died when he was bathed in mutagen." Hakan began by getting up and taking his swords from his back. "Now I am someone new, someone stronger, I... am... Haktauro."
Suddenly, before anyone could do anything else, a huge group of rocks was sent in the direction of the mutant bull, but Haktauro broke them all with a movement of his sword.
The air and metalbender turned to one side to see that Jargala was responsible.
"I'm sorry, but the sound of your voice was bothering me." Jargala said before meeting with the other two women. "Do you know them?"
"He was a former subordinate of mine, but he allied himself with Shredder and seems to have been mutated." explained Kuvira.
"Wow. Wait not to be exposed to that thing." said Jargala, looking at the mutant aspect of the former general in surprise.
"I guess the negotiations are over, huh?" asked Opal without openly admitting that he had been wrong about Kuvira in that matter.
"Yes." said Kuvira before the three benders positioned themselves to fight. "I'm afraid so."
Haktauro let out a bull roar before charging towards them.
On another street, Jinora and Kai used their airbending skills to get rid of all the foot-bots that came their way.
"They never stop." Kai said, dodging a sword cut from a foot-bot before sending it away in an air current.
"Compared to Shredder's mutants, this is simpler." said Jinora sending a sharp wind wave with a horizontal kick, splitting three foot-bots in half.
"Are they that strong?" asked Kai before knocking down another foot-bot with an air current.
"Only one of them was enough to defeat me and my siblings." said Jinora before sending two air currents from her palms, which she manipulated to make two foot-bots collide with each other.
"Wow, I hope I don't have to face one of them." said Kai.
Suddenly, the two heard the sound of engines and turned around to see a Chrome Dome landing in front of them.
"Oh, no." said Jinora, recalling what her father told them about his fight during the Foot's attack on the island.
The Chrome Dome held a purple sword in his right hand and a whip in his left hand.
"Targets located. Proceeding with extermination." said the Chrome Dome.
"Okay. This could be a problem." said Kai, a little afraid to see the advanced robot.
In another street, Bumi and Kya were fighting several foot-bots with their air and waterbending. Needless to say, they were doing a fast and efficient job, although the foot-bots kept coming back.
"You know? This reminds me of a battle I had with some bandits in..." Bumi began.
"Now isn't the time!" said Kya interrupting her brother before using a water whip to grab one foot-bot and beat him against another.
Suddenly, a foot-bot jumped towards them with two swords held high. They were about to defend themselves, but before he could reach them, a metal whip wrapped around his head and with a jerk, the head separated from the body, falling inertly to the ground.
The two siblings looked ahead to discover that Lin was responsible for their salvation.
"Do you need help?" Lin asked.
"I do. We could use it." said Kya, happy to see the chief of police.
"I don't know what our brother is worried about. Those guys are a piece of cake." said Bumi.
That's when they heard a couple of rockets from behind and turned around to see two Chrome Domes landing on the ground with their guns ready.
"Did you say something?" asked Lin, positioning herself to fight along with the two siblings.
Splinter was the first to attack. It was a battle of blades with sparks jumping in every crash that happened. After a while of exchanging cuts, Splinter found an opening and kicked him, making him retreat.
Using the airbending, Shredder jumped in time to dodge an air current sent by Tenzin, and landed behind the airbender before hitting him.
Then Tonraq came in sending a series of water bullets, but Shredder nimbly dodged some while the rest he blocked with his gauntlets. Using the air, he moved quickly towards him, but Tonraq tried to block him with an ice wall, but Shredder made a couple of diagonal cuts that destroyed the wall, leaving him free to kick the leader of the Water Tribe.
Splinter returned to the charge with the intention of hitting him with his sword, but he not only blocked the sword with his claws, but destroyed it and then used the airbending to move Splinter over him and throw him to the other side.
As he rose from the ground, Shredder sent out from his claws two currents of cutting air, but Splinter was able to miraculously dodge it by jumping and spinning in the air, passing in the gap between the two cuts.
After that, Splinter charged at Shredder and threw several blows at his head and body before pushing his index and middle fingers into his chest, causing an invisible force to push Shredder into a wall.
Tonraq took the opportunity to imprison him in a very thick block of ice, but Shredder, with a powerful cry of effort and rage, managed to free himself from his prison, sending a wave of wind that pushed the three of them back.
Tenzin decided to act quickly and jumped at him. While he was in the air, he sent an air current from his foot that he was able to block by erecting a very thick wall of air. Then Tenzin formed his air scooter to move faster and thus attack him by surprise.
However, Shredder was able to read his movements and launched an air current that caused Tenzin to undo his scooter to avoid the attack. But that left it open for Shredder to deliver a hard punch to his chest before kicking him in the air on his side and sending him rolling on the ground with a whimper.
Splinter ran towards him, but Shredder raised his fists and lowered them quickly, sending a wave of wind that forced Splinter to cover himself by putting his arms in the X position. And although that only pushed him back, it was enough to allow Shredder to get close to him and deliver a series of punches all over his body.
He then grabbed him by the head and lifted him up a bit before releasing him and giving him a blow wrapped in air to the chest, which made it more powerful, and more painful for Splinter who was sent crashing into a nearby wall, falling to the ground unconscious.
Tonraq prepared himself, as he was the last one left to face this man and wasn't going to let him near his daughter. Using all that was left of water, he formed eight tentacles around him to act as attack and defense.
He sent a pair of tentacles towards him, but Shredder cut them off like butter before running towards him. Tonraq tried to trip him up by covering the floor with ice, but Shredder rose up in the air with the airbending. Tonraq decided to take advantage of that to grab his foot with a water tentacle and send him hitting the ground.
Shredder managed to get up in time to see Tonraq freeze the tip of his tentacles and send them to him like a machine gun. Shredder dodged and blocked the attacks as he tried to advance towards him, but even if some of those icicles hit him, he kept going.
Finally, Shredder managed to get close to him, but before he could hit him in the face, Tonraq locked his arm in a wall of ice that he then threw towards him, sending him back and throwing him to the ground, turning the wall of ice into water in the process to recharge.
Shredder got up again and gave the Avatar's father a glare. Tonraq turned his tentacles into a single stream of water that he threw towards the leader of the Foot while screaming from the effort.
Shredder didn't move from his place and instead threw his arms forward, sending an air current so powerful that it destroyed the water flow, which left Tonraq quite surprised.
A big mistake, because Shredder took advantage of that to approach him and hit him several times all over his body before kicking him on his right shoulder, making him scream in pain as soon as he felt that he was dislocating.
Tonraq groaned in pain as he grabbed his dislocated shoulder and fell to his knees.
"I admit you are stronger than I thought." Shredder said.
"Heh. That's what happens when a father wants to protect his children. That's something you'll never understand." Tonraq said with a cheeky smile.
Shredder took a step back and began moving his arms, manipulating the air around him. At that moment, a layer of air came out of Tonraq's mouth and grabbed his throat as Shredder formed a sphere of emptiness around his head, preventing him from breathing.
"While I was getting this power, Hakan told me about a technique that an evil airbender named Zaheer used to kill the ancient queen of the Earth and I must say... that it is a very effective method to kill someone. This way I can show your body to your daughter and take advantage of her moment of weakness to kill her. So, you can gather in the afterlife." said Shredder still manipulating the air.
Tonraq looked at him with a look of horror as he slowly noticed that he was running out of oxygen to breathe.
"Feel fortunate to be the first to die at my hands in this way." said Shredder, but before he gave the final touch to his execution
"SHREDDER!" one shouted for his attention.
MOMENTS BEFORE
Korra ran from street to street, helping everyone she could and eliminating all the enemies she encountered with air, water, earth, fire, and metal. While she was focused on taking out the enemy, part of her hoped that her friends and girlfriend would be okay, and another part, although she didn't know it herself, hoped that she wouldn't have to meet Shredder.
Suddenly, she heard a scream of pain, a scream that was familiar to her and that she hoped she wouldn't hear.
"Dad!" shouted Korra as she quickly headed in the direction the scream was coming from.
Shortly thereafter, she arrived at her destination, only to be shocked by what she saw.
Splinter and Tenzin were lying on the ground with several wounds on their bodies and worst of all, Shredder was using on his father the same technique that Zaheer used on her to kill her.
Although her fear of the man told her to run away, she could NOT leave her father behind, so she did the only thing she could think of to save him.
"SHREDDER!" shouted Korra, drawing the Foot leader's attention. "It's me you want, isn't it?! Come and get me!" said Korra before she ran away from the area.
Shredder wasn't willing to let his target escape, so he undoes the deadly vacuum technique even though he didn't finish it, as Tonraq falls to the ground while coughing and panting for air, and begins to chase the Avatar.
Tonraq stretched out his hand to where the two had gone with a desperate look.
"No... Korra..." was the last thing Tonraq said before falling unconscious but alive.
Korra ran with all her might throughout Republic City, ignoring the fights that were going on around her. Turning her head slightly back, she could see Shredder quickly chasing her and was getting closer and closer to her.
By the time Korra looked ahead, she saw she was near the docks. With an idea in her head, she headed for the water and with her waterbending she slid directly into the Island's Air Temple, with Shredder following her path using his airbending. All of this was intended to keep Shredder away from others.
After arriving at the island and running a little further to the center, Korra stopped, panting slightly from exhaustion.
"You did it on purpose, didn't you?" Shredder asked before Korra turned around to face him. "You wanted to take me away from the rest."
"I won't let you hurt anyone else." said Korra.
"A very noble act, but your friends will die anyway." Shredder said.
"Why, Saki?" Korra asked using Shredder's real name, which upset him a little. "Why did you have to come to this? And just for me?!"
"You possess great power and you waste it on a stupid cause like bringing balance. Such power doesn't deserve to be in someone so weak. I will put that power to its proper use." said Shredder.
"In that case..." Korra began by positioning herself to fight. "I'll make sure to stop you right here and now!"
"You have courage, I admit that, but it won't do you any good against me and my new power." Shredder said, causing the air to move around his hands.
"You're not the first airbender I've faced." said Korra.
"True, but I'm stronger than all of them." said Shredder.
Both sides gave a battle cry before launching into each other.
AN: And here ends the first part of this great battle. The fights have begun on the battlefield and the combatants will have to face each other. Only one side from each fight will survive. Who will it be? Will Korra survive a fight with Shredder now that he is an airbender? We will know in the next chapter.
By the way, if I have done anything wrong during the above fights, please tell me. I accept any criticism.
