Morion's POV (Steven and Suha's fusion name)
It had been only a week since Steven and Suha met up with Peridot and Amethyst at the Kindergarten. They decided to fuse together to join the new band with some of the teens from Beach City and I had to say the reactions to me was pretty amazing. It helped to have something to do besides thinking about Pink, Black Diamond, Lars and every other crazing that's been happening. I opened the door to the Big Donut and noticed a very tired Sadie waving goodbye to some customers.
"Thanks for coming." Sadie said and she almost unconscious started to mop the floor.
"Hey Sadie." I said and she looks up. "Are you alright?"
She blinked tiredly a few times and rubbed her eyes. "Sorry, do I know you?"
"Ah, I'm Morion, Steven and Suha like Steven and Connie." I said and she blinks again.
"Well it's nice to meet you." She said tiredly and we shake each others hands.
"Hope you don't mind but we have a long order." I said and Sadie chuckles.
"What trouble? I'm a professional donut girl." She walked behind the counter.
"kay... I'll have one jelly donut with powdered sugar on the side, three chocolate frosted, one frosted chocolate, three chocolate-frosted chocolate, one dog-nut; medium well, one coffee with milk and sugar, hold the coffee. I also have several methods of payment I'd like you to split this order across evenly."
"Uh, what's all this for?" She asked.
"Band practice!" I said happily with a small smile on my face.
"You're in a band?!" Sadie yelled.
"Kinda. We stared jamming with Jenny, Buck, and Sour Cream. Thought that since Steven still looks like a kid, might as well look like this, for the image." I explained..
"Whoa! That's so cool! Aww man! I bet you guys sound amazing!"
"We're still trying to figure out our sound, but it's been fun just playing music with other people. It's also nice to have an outlet that doesn't involve space and Gem stuff and everything else going on. Um... You doing okay?" I paused as I looked at the big bags under her eyes.
"Well, I worry about Lars being in space, and I hope he's safe and all, but... Ughh... Working all these shifts by myself has been a huge drag. I'm totally used to doing his work, but I'm used to at least having him here to talk to. Now, I gotta do that myself, too. "Oh, come on, Sadie, you missed a spot!" Oh, no, sorry." She mopped the floor.
"Well, we'll all be practicing at Sour Cream's place tonight. Feel free to stop by if you have time." I explained.
"I'll try! Hopefully, I can finish restocking napkins early. We're always running out for some reason." Sadie said and I felt a pull and a bright light.
Suha's POV
We unfused and Steven took a whole stack of napkins. "Hmm, weird. Well, see ya, Sadie! Suha are you coming?" Steven asked holding out his hand and I shook my head.
"You know I've never had a job on Earth before." I said looking over at Sadie. "I don't mind keeping you company."
"No! No! It's alright!" Sadie said with a little blush on her face and I grabbed the mop.
"Really, I don't mind, I'll go to the band with you later." I said and we waved goodbye to Steven who looked happily at me.
"You don't have to be so nice you know…" Sadie said, her voice tired again as she took a seat at the counter. "I'll be fine on my own."
"I know you'll be but I know more than anyone who much loneliness sucks." I said and put the mop away. "Plus I feel like I've been focusing too much on me, so call me selfish but I wanna try to help someone else instead."
She sent me a tired smile. "Well thank you."
It was nighttime by the time we left the Big Donut, we got to know each other a bit, but there were certain topics we didn't push to talk about. It was obvious there was something bothering the both of us, but it didn't affect our communication too much. By the time we got there the band was done.
It wasn't until I was helping Sadie carrying a big bag of donuts, right about to enter her house when—
"Hi, Suha! Sadie!" Steven said and we looked back.
"Hey, how's it goin'?" Sour Cream asked.
"S'up?" Buck said,
"Hey, girls." Jenny said.
"Whoa! Hey, guys! I just got home from work." Sadie said startled.
"We know. We followed you. Sorry if that's weird." Steven apologized and I sighed.
"We know how busy your schedule is, so, we decided to bring the jam to you. Plus Suha's been chillin' with you lately, so it seemed like the best idea." Buck said.
"Aw, shucks, guys! But…" Sadie groaned nervously. "My room is such a mess right now. Okay, ah- okay, just give me a moment to tidy up!" Sadie ran forward and we followed her as Steven and I grab each other's hands.
Morion's POV
"I wish I could do that." Jenny said as I opened my eyes, noting the awed looks on their faces.
"We always could you know." I said and Jenny had a light blush on her face as she held up her hands, waving them nervously.
"N-Nevermind!" Jenny said and all of us laugh at her and went downstairs to Sadie's room.
"Dang, Sadie! You've got so much space in here!" Jenny said as we entered the basement.
"Yo, Sadie, do you have any free outlets to plug into?" Sour Cream asked and Sadie hides a bunch of movies under her blanket. I knew from Steven that Sadie and Lars loved watching movies.
"Oh, yeah, check over by the TV." Sadie said and all of us began to set up our instruments.
"Let's get serious now. The show is this weekend!" Jenny said.
"Wait... I can't really... feel the music in this... cramped spot." Buck walked over to Sadie's bed. "This looks comfy."
"No, wait!" Sadie yelled but Buck sat on her bed and there was a loud crunching noise heard underneath the blanket.
Buck groaned. "Aw, I think I broke your bed." Buck said and Sadie shoved Buck off her bed and lifted up the bed to see if all of her cassettes were okay. I felt a wave of nostalgia wave over me from Suha.
"Whoa, those take me back." I said and picked up one of the cassettes. "Haven't seen these in a while."
"You're telling me." Sour Cream said. "Scary movies! Hey, Sadie, you've got a dark side."
"It's more of a… dork side." Sadie said.
"Hey, is that "The Lurch"?" Jenny asked.
"You know this one?" She asked.
"Yeah! It's a classic! I can't believe you have a copy! Guys, we have to watch this." Jenny said and we ended up doing just that as we watched the movie on Sadie's TV with the lights off.
"Brains.." The TV Zombie groans and the woman in the movie screamed in fear.
"I can't believe you like this one. Not everyone appreciates Bulgarian horror." Sadie said in awe and I had both of my eyes covered.
"I guessed Steven would be scared of horror but not Suha." Sour Cream said.
"Suha's not scared of horror, she just don't like gore." I explained.
"You've had your eyes covered the entire time." Buck said.
"Uh, guys, how about finding our sound now?" I asked.
"I kind like this sound." Sour Cream said and walked over to his laptop and added a dark electronic beat over the eerie music from the movie.
"Ooh. I like that." Jenny said and picked up her bass and added a rhythmic tune to the music.
"And then, we can do this." I began strumming with Steven's electric guitar in short rhythms and added a hum.
"Now, we just need some provocative lyrics." Buck said.
"Tired from work
Hate my job
I really ought-a be in mourning
But I got another shift this morning
Everyday feels like it's never ending
What's the point of all the time I'm spending
Here, at this, dead end job
Oh, we are the working dead
And we lurch for minimum wage
But I'd really rather be
Eating your brains
Look at you, you seem so bright and healthy
And your minds are full of joy and wonder
Stay a thousand miles from the condition
That I've got from all the stress I'm under
Don't come near me or you might encourage
All these terrifying sudden urges
Seeing you makes skipping work so tempting
Don't you know that in the night I'm temping?
Here, at this, dead end job
Oh, we are the working dead
And we lurch for minimum wage
But I'd really rather be
Eating your brains."
Sadie chomped into a jelly filled donut and red jelly squirted out like blood and the woman from the movie screamed in horror.
"Whoa!" all of us say.
"Sadie, that was awesome!" I yelled happily.
"Yeah, girl, yeah!" Jenny yelled happily.
"That was so rad!" Sour Cream encouraged.
"You're not Sadie Miller. You're Sadie Killer." Buck said.
"This is it! This is our sound! Sadie, you should be our frontman!" Jenny said.
"Really?!" Sadie asked with a big smile on her face and laughed, but then it faded. "Wow, I... Uhh, wait, no, I can't. Ugh, I've got to work tomorrow. Actually, you guys should probably pack up. I got to get some rest before my shift." Sadie said and we looked at her sadly.
Suha's POV
It was the next day and we entered the Big Donut as Sadie wiped down the glass donut cabinet.
"Hey. What're you doing here?" Sadie asked and I sighed and pointed at Steven.
"I was just wondering if I could get some advice. We've been trying to write some more spooky songs without you, but... They sound so phony coming from me. "Rawr, I'm a bad, bad boy!" Yeesh... I don't know. I can't do it like you. You got any tips?" Steven asked and I covered my face with my hand.
"Let's see. First, lose your youth to your boring job. Then, lose the only person you've ever felt truly close to. And then, lose your mind working all his shifts." Sadie said.
"I don't think I can do all that before the show tomorrow." Steven chucked nervously. "Are you sure you can't come?"
"I'm the only employee at the shop. I can't just leave. Singing is fun, and-and being in the band would be really fun, like the most fun ever. Bu-But a lot of things could be a lot of things. This job is a drag, but at least I know it's a drag. It's normal. There's something nice about that, you know? Hanging out, singing and stuff, it feels so not normal. It's like- You ever feel so bad that you feel good? Like, when you get so cold that it burns. Sometimes, I just want to scream my guts out. Well, no, not my guts, but whatever thing is squirming in my guts."
Steven scribbled some notes. "Wow! Tha-that's poetry! You're such a natural at this! All right, I'll try my best. How's this?" He began to sing.
"Hate my job!
Hate my job!
Obligations!
No vacations!
Kinda saaaaad!"
He stopped.
"Do I really sound like that?" Sadie asked.
"No, no, y-you sing it like it's really a problem for you. Don't worry, I'll get it, I promise." He said and began singing to himself as he grabbed some napkins and left. Sadie looked down, contemplating.
"You should join." I told her and her head shot up.
"But m-my job." Sadie stuttered.
"You should do what you want to do Sadie, you can't just let your job control you, if you turn back now… Will you regret this decision or will you be happy, even if it's only for an instant?" I asked her and she looked like she wanted to cry. I took out my hand and sent her a smile. "I wish someone help our their hand when I needed some help…" I paused, a conflicted look on my face, until it dropped into a dark look.
"Why don't you sing?" Sadie asked me and I looked up at her. "I can tell that you must have enough thoughts like mine to make a good song."
I sent her a half smile. "I mostly joined as a way to escape from my problems, not due to a real love for the music. I like hanging out with everyone but it's not my thing you know? But when I saw you, everyone's eyes seemed to light up and I thought if I could do one thing good.. It would be to help guide you to where you truly want to be."
Sadie paused and looked around at the Big Donut. "Just give me some time."
I nodded my head.
Hour seemed to go by slowly as I saw Sadie struggling to work, but suddenly she had a very determined look on her face and she started running out of the Big Donut.
"Sadie wait up!" I yelled an ran after her as I saw her race off to a car.
"Hey!" Sadie yelled. "Wait up!" She painted.
"Sadie!" Steven and Jenny yelled and we caught up to the car as Sadie caught her breath.
"I can do it! I can do the show! I can come!" Sadie yelled breathlessly.
"All right! Yeah!" Jenny cheered.
"Oh, thank goodness!" Steven said in relief and she got into the car.
"And I can come to practice, and I can come to the next show, and the show after that!" Sadie yelled happily.
"But Sadie, don't you have work?" Steven asked.
"Heh! I QUIT!" Sadie yelled and took off her Big Donut uniform. She held out her hand for me and I smiled at her but didn't take her hand.
"Suha? Aren't you coming?" Buck asked and I shook my head.
"Sorry guys, but I think it's time I take a step forward for me too." I said and smiled at them ruefully. I grabbed her hand. "But I don't mind coming to the festival, gotta support my favorite band."
Understanding smiles were sent my way.
