Free Jaffa Nation

Overview

During the reign of the System Lords, Goa'uld kidnapped countless humans not only to be used as hosts but to be experimented on. This resulted in genetic mutants that boasted greater physical abilities and longevity. They were known as the jaffa. Seeing their potential, the jaffa became slave soldiers to the Goa'uld, convincing them that the Goa'uld are gods. However the reign of the System Lords is over and the jaffa have liberated themselves from their oppressors, forming the Free Jaffa Nation.

Society

The Jaffa Nation is broken down into clans. These clans formed after the fall of the Goa'uld, usually the jaffa from a single slain goa'uld forming one clan. Though there are instances of multiple clans forming and even some instances of clans being made of the jaffa from multiple goa'uld. Often this is because the clan was once its own jaffa rebel faction. The sizes of the clans may vary though a single clan usually encompass multiple planets that were part of that goa'uld's domain. The goa'uld would mold the culture of the jaffa to their liking. As a result, the cultures of each clan tend to differ though there are similarities. The history of each clan also shape who they are. For example. the Jin Clan is made of Yu's former jaffa. Since many of them had to rule in Yu's place as he grew senile, the Jin Clan has many battle masters, political advisors, and economists. The Blood Clan are made of the former jaffa of Ares and they possess some of the most elite jaffa. The Hak'tyl Clan is made of Moloc's former jaffa and boast battle masters who specialize in guerilla warfare and also possess excellent farmers. Illac Renin is another jaffa clan, one that believes in a modified form of Origin in spite of the death of their clan leader Arkad.

Each clan also form and maintain their own military and economy, deal with making most of their own laws and trade. Each clan is in essence a small nation.

Every jaffa planet also has human communities. Back during the System Lords, these humans were kept as potential hosts and slaves for the most menial tasks. They would worship the jaffa as being just as godly as the goa'uld themselves. And the jaffa were their brutal enforcers, taking humans either as hosts, as slaves, or as entertainment for their masters. Whenever a human was to be made an example of, it was a jaffa who did it. Now that the Goa'uld are gone, tensions between humans and jaffa run high. All human communities on jaffa worlds were automatically made part of the Jaffa Nation. The humans feel that not only have their oppressors been rewarded, they have been forced to be part of their oppressors' new nation. Even though the jaffa were slave soldiers to the goa'uld, they were still given better treatment, living in cities as opposed to the slums. Whenever the goa'uld fell, the jaffa began to distribute the hoarded technology, the areas closest to the Goa'uld palaces getting first dibs. And the human settlements were perhaps the furthest which left the remaining primitive while the jaffa quickly advanced in technology. The jaffa once killed each other in battle in the name of their Goa'uld masters, but the jaffa blame the Goa'uld for such bloodshed. They feel the humans should do the same. But the humans don't and blame the jaffa.

The Grand Guard serve as the jaffa's primary law enforcement body. They are brutal by human standards but not so by jaffa standards since jaffa not only pride themselves as warriors who deal and are dealt punishment, they are hardier than humans and many still use symbiotes and can heal.

The drug known as tretonin has seen a steady increase in usage ever since the tau'ri gave them the formula with small factories mass producing it. However only one in thirty jaffa use tretonin. The rest use symbiotes which are procured by specialized fishermen. Before the jaffa nation, when a symbiote matured it was sometimes given a host (though this was not always the case as the birth of a new Goa'uld meant the birth of a potential enemy). Now, when it has matured it is summarily executed.

Government

Every clan is led by a Circle of clan leaders comprised of the clan leader and their advisors. The clan leader is elected. Every planet in the clan will also vote for a planetary leader who will serve as a member of the Circle as an advisor.

Every clan leader will regularly meet to vote for the High Council, the ruling body of the Jaffa Nation. Candidates step forward an announce their desire to be part of the Jaffa High Council. After a period of time, all clan leaders will vote. The High Council will dictate the number of seats to be filled. Once that is determined, the clan leaders will vote for the candidates to take their place on the High Council. This takes place over multiple voting cycles, the top 50% with the most votes are chosen for the next cycle until all seats available are filled. If 200 candidates step forward and there are 20 seats to be filled, during the first cycle the top 100 with the most votes will be chosen. During the next cycle, the top 50 are chosen. The third cycle will choose 25. And the fourth will choose only 20 for the seats on the Council. If the number of seats available are close to the number candidates, the Jaffa Council may choose what action to take. Using the previous example, if there are 24 seats open and 25 candidates left, the High Council can either declare the number to be close enough that they will accept 25 members, or to hold one more election cycle regardless. Odd number of candidates are rounded down so in a pool of 101, 50 are chosen.

Clan leaders can listen to the pleas of their people to sway their votes.

The High Council will vote for a head. This will act as their representative for their entire nation. The head of the High Council will lead it, guide their discussions, and set up agendas and topics for the High Council to discuss. The head of the High Council doesn't hold any particular political power, but if the head does not wish for a topic to be discussed, they can ensure it is never brought up during council meetings. The High Council also set the laws for the nation.

Technology

The jaffa's level of technology greatly vary. Back during the dark ages of the System Lords, jaffa were kept primitive. They were on occasion granted access to advanced weapons, medical technology, or housing but this was a rarity. The Goa'uld needed to hoard the technology to keep their positions as gods absolute. They had access to vehicles such as tanks, all terrain walkers, and powered suits of armor. But too much exposure could desensitize the jaffa to these sights. The jaffa lived in villages and castles reminiscent to Earth during the medieval period. Now that the Goa'uld have fallen, the jaffa have begun to distribute the technology kept from them. The factories that built these magnificent machines now run at full power. The technology is distributed to the surrounding area. Large cities and palaces are the most advanced having the most access to advanced technology. As one moves further from the large cities, they'll see this advanced technology become an increasingly rare sight. By the time one reaches the human-inhabited villages, advanced technology is almost never seen.

Even in the cities, advanced and primitive technology is hybridized. There are horse-drawn hover carriages. Primitive stores may have a holographic advertisement or billboard. Large communication orbs are placed on pedestals like street lamps and are used as a public broadcast system.

Vi'kong are short ranged transportation ships. They are public transportation to take jaffa anywhere on the planet and are used if the trip via vehicle or on horseback will take too long. The most advanced jaffa worlds use ring stations. These are reserved for only the most elite or government officials but they are used to transport jaffa to specific locations on a planet by using transport rings to beam them to a station in orbit where they can then select their destination on the planet. Plans are underway for a design that bounces the signal rather than forcing the travelers to use the transport rings twice but this technology has not yet been achieved.

Clans

* Jin Clan: Yu's former jaffa, known for their battle masters, economists, and advisor's.

* Blood Clan: Ares's former jaffa, known for their warriors and advanced equipment

* Hak'tyll Clan: Moloc's former jaffa and formerly the Hak'tyll resistance. Mostly female jaffa (only recently begun accepting males) and known for guerilla battle masters, farmers, and cavalry.

* Dar'kai Clan: Apophis's former jaffa. Has perhaps the healthiest economy being one of the first groups free of the Goa'uld. Morale is extremely high since Dar'kai is also the home of Teal'c and Bra'tac.

*Koro Silai: Perhaps the largest clan, while there were many smaller branches of the jaffa rebellion this was formed from the largest ones. Formerly led by K'tano then by Teal'c and Bra'tac. Both Teal'c and Bra'tac now hail from Koro Silai as opposed to Dar'kai.
