For the prompt: "I will always be there protect you."
A/N: This prompt actually provided the perfect follow up to my last story.
"Thanks for standing up for me," Deeks murmured, head lolling to the side. When they arrived at the ER, Deeks had been whisked away for x-rays almost immediately and then received treatment for his head wound and the more serious cuts and abrasions.
Now they were waiting for the on-call doctor to follow up. Deeks kept almost dozing off, but every time he did, it inevitably jerked which jarred his ribs.
"Of course." She would do just about anything for him.
"Although, it might have been just a little bit of overkill." Kensi's frowned at him, resting her chin on her arms as he grinned up at her.
"What do you mean?" she asked, wondering if this was the mild concussion he undoubtedly had talking.
"Whiting was already freaking out about me getting hurt, you didn't have to make her feel worse," he explained.
"Good, she should feel bad about this." She gestured to Deeks as a whole. Personally, she thought they were incredibly lucky it hadn't been far worse. The thought made her shudder and she linked her fingers with Deeks' needing the connection.
"She really didn't mean for this to happen. Actually, when I suggested going undercover Whiting initially shot me down."
"Good. You should have listened.
"But I convinced her we didn't have time to come up with another plan," he continued.
"Yeah, sometime we're gonna have a talk about you going undercover without telling me," Kensi said and he had the good grace to look a little guilty.
"If I promise not to do it again, can we shelve that conversation indefinitely?" He gave her a puppy-eyed dog look, the one she could never resist.
"Fine. This time," she allowed. "And just for the record, I will always be there to protect you. Even when you don't think you need me to."
"Such a good wife," he whispered.
