Abandoned

Xavier crumpled up the letter after rereading it for the fifteenth or so time, tossing it across his room as he tried to keep his emotions calm. If he got too upset, the minotaur would appear, and he would probably tear half the bureau apart before Hellboy and the others could stop him. He lay back on his bed, glaring at the ceiling with teary eyes.

He knew this day would come eventually, though he had still held onto the hope that his family would still want and love him after learning about his 'abilities.' He missed his parents and older brother, and while he knew that his whole 'transform into a minotaur if I get too upset' thing wasn't exactly easy for them, he thought they would at least try to make it work before giving up.

A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts; probably the Professor, wondering why he had failed to show up to afternoon training or dinner. Most likely to talk to him about the letter.

"I'm asleep," the teen called out, still staring at the ceiling. "And I'm not hungry."

"Really," Hellboy said from the other side of the door. "I thought spaghetti night was your favorite."

Xavier groaned with annoyance; he should have known that his absence would bring the special agent coming. At the moment, he wasn't in the mood to see anyone, and wished that everyone would just leave him alone. He heard his door open a moment later, and light from the hallway spilled into the room. The teen sighed, turning away from the door.

"I'm kinda tired," Xavier lied. "Probably coming down with something; you should leave. Now, preferably."

"Ya don't look sick," the half-demon commented. "Ya look like a wounded puppy."

Xavier sat up, a hard frown on his face. "If you came here just to make fun of me, then get it over with."

"I'm not here to make fun of ya." Hellboy walked into the room, setting a bowl of spaghetti on his bedside table. "A peace offering. Even put some parmesan on it, just how ya like it."

Xavier looked at the bowl while his stomach gave a small rumble of hunger, but the frown remained on his face. "I'm not hungry."

"I find that hard to believe," the half-demon said.

The teen opened his mouth to retort, but closed it, all snippy remarks dying in his throat. He lay back down on his bed, looking at the ceiling. "... They don't want me to come home for Christmas."

The silence that followed was empty, as if someone had used a vacuum to suck out all the sound from the room. It only made Xavier feel more aware of what had happened, and he felt worst. Hellboy said nothing in reply, and the teen sighed.

"They… they don't want me to come home at all, apparently," Xavier continued. "They said… with Cathy on the way and the baby shower party right after New Year's, they don't want me to…" He blinked away a few tears. "I would never hurt my mom! Never! They're acting like I would lose control or -" He felt his hands bristling, the temptation to transform into a raging monster to let off some steam in the front of his mind.

"Xavier," Hellboy said sadly, giving him an apologetic look.

"It's fine," the teen lied, sitting back up and managing to put on a fake smile. "They don't want me anymore, and I'm good with that. Fourteen years of being their son and they don't even bother calling me on the phone to tell me. At least they're sending my stuff here… I don't have to see their stupid faces and resist the urge to turn into the minotaur and punch a hole through their heads."

Xavier finally broke down, covering his mouth in an attempt to quiet the sobs that came from his mouth, the sound more animal than human. He was not someone who cried much, but when he did, he was like a broken pipe, leaking all over the place. He hunched over, closing his eyes as he tried to ignore the pain in his heart. His parents, his soon-to-be younger sister, his relatives… his family. How could they turn their back on him like this?

Vaguely, he felt Hellboy sit down next to him, and soon found himself being hugged by the half-demon. He leaned into the hug, crying into the agent's coat as he mourned being disowned by his family. Hellboy himself wasn't used to seeing Xavier this upset, and could only sit there as the teenager cried and cried and cried.

"Why... Why don't t-t-they want me," Xavier said in between sobs. "W-W-Why don't they l-l-love me anymore?"

"I dunno, kid," Hellboy said, a hint of sadness and anger in his voice. "I just don't know."

This story was kind of sad to write, mainly because of what happens to Xavier and how it will affect the rest of his life. It also gives a little backstory into his past [I have an idea for a chapter about his backstory and how the B.P.R.D. found him], and as to what his family is like.

I hope it wasn't too sad; Hurt/Comfort stories are my specialty, and my favorite kind of story to write. Feel free to leave a review if you have any ideas for stories!
