CHAPTER 32
It had only been a few hours until the computer finished scanning her DNA. Since then, Fillien had been watching helplessly as Ulrich looked through a microscope. Every once in awhile he would use a dispenser attached to the mutagen canister to give him a small amount of the primordial substance into a petri dish. He'd mix it with a small drop of her blood from a tube as well as random substances in flasks nearby. Then he'd look at the results through his microscope. After the fifth attempt, Fillien's head shot up in surprise as Ulrich banged a fist into the table.
The man took a deep breath and looked at the supplies he had spread out all over the table. "Maybe phosphate was too much… tantalum could be the answer…"
"You always talk to yourself?" Fillien asked, cutting the silence from her side of the lab.
Ulrich didn't stop but continued looking through the microscope and switching out glass slides as he said, "Yes, to make sure I don't miss something. And talking with me won't stall the process." he finished the last bit in a sing-songy voice.
Fillien knew it was hopeless, but instinct drove her anyway. As Karai said, she had always been one to talk. After all, there was something about the conversation earlier that got Fillien thinking. "I just don't understand. Why would you want to do this if you said you wanted to help people. This won't help people."
Ulrich froze before he could have the dispenser could give him more mutagen. But he never wavered. Never looked at Fillien. "Maybe not directly. But it will prove it eventually." And then he continued.
"Prove what?"
Ulrich seemed to get a bit flustered and he put down the eyedropper he had in hand gently onto the table. Before sitting back in his chair. "Look, I don't have time to focus on all that in the past. The future holds potential."
"Potential to hurt more people. Say you can create more like me? How exactly will you get them to do as their told?"
"If they are mutated and retain their cognitive capacity like you, then it should be easy to control. If not, then just treat them like we would do an animal training to do tricks. Reward system."
"That's just swinging two ways. You're not looking at all the other cases. Breaker kept his mind yet he's still hell-bent on killing Shredder."
Ulrich turned his chair around to grab a file next to his keyboard. "Background checks. Make sure they are clear of any ulterior motives." He opened the file and looked at different documents.
Fillien couldn't see the words but she managed to see over his shoulder to catch profile pictures on the right corner of every document. They must already have candidates ready. "What of… the Blob with guts! He was not mutated from any animal? How does the reward system work then?"
"We can spare freezing an asset or two there." Ulrich's eyes widened, then he laughed as he dropped the file back next to the keyboard and turned back. "Get it, Freeze the Asset."
Fillien's ears dropped to the side, her eyes going wide and whiskers twitching. He even knew about that? Out of the turtles, Donnie only showed Fillien, not even Karai knew. Ulrich somehow found out Timothy was in frozen stasis. Seeing her go quiet again, Ulrich let the laughter fade but kept his smile. Then he got back to looking through his microscope. "Finally some peace…."
Fillien had to get out of here. Once this man got his way, Ulrich's creepy clever mind won't stop at just an army of mutants. If he was able to find out about the movement of every mutant, who's to say he won't try and capture them an experiment on all of them. Make more of them as well. Not only will humans be in danger but mutants too. Fillien rested her head against the bars of her cage. Ulrich wasn't going to stop until; he 'proved' whatever needed to be proven. Fillien may not know what it is, but she had to stop him. Or at least stall him. She wasn't going to let this man get under her skin, so if talking is what got on his nerves earlier.
Fillien sat up in her cage and cleared her throat before saying, "So how is that you know of The Pulverizor's stasis? Do you know about all the mutants in New York."
Ulrich rolled his eyes. "I've been researching this topic for a while. I have to make sure the margin of error is at zero. So the answer is yes I do know almost everyone, but no I will not tell you my sources. Not even Shredder knows what I know."
"Glad to hear you don't trust Shredder either. What's your failsafe when he finds out you have your own plan?"
Ulrich grumbled and looked up, "I have a plan and that's that. Now like I said, talking won't stall…" He faltered when the sound of glass cracking was heard. He and Fillien gasped when they look up the source.
In the dark of the night outside, they couldn't see exactly what, but someone on all four paws was standing on top of the glass roof. Those feet along with several pairs of silver souls combined to add enough weight to the skylight for it to start breaking. Cracks started to form and get bigger until finally, one small step from one furry paw forced the glass to shatter. Large and small pieces fell from the roof along with the owners of the many feet. It caused Fillien to step back away from the front of her cage. Urlich maned to grab the mutagen canister and the last of the blood samples before ducking bellow his work table.
Fillien had covered her face with her wings so all she could tell was someone managed to hit and smash through Ulrich's metal work table and make all his supplies shatter and break. Machinery sounded like it was winding up before breaking and shutting down completely. Something sparked not too far away. When Fillien finally looked up, the first thing she saw was the broken work tables and contents spread all around the cement floor. Lamps that once hung from the ceiling now lay split in two, blinking several times trying to stay on. But seeing Wimbi getting up weakly was what made her finally speak up and even move closer to the door of her cage. "Wimbi!"
The sound of her voice made the wolfman straighten himself as he sat upon the table. He only had a few cuts of glass and maybe a swelling left eye, but seeing her made him smile wide as if nothing bad just happened. "My love!" His tail wagged as he trotted over the glass and lamp parts, going face to face with her and the cage doors. "I'm so happy I found you so soon."
Fillien could feel her cheeks flush as her wings wiggled a little in her tiny space. "I'm so happy you finally came." Bright green eyes stared into sea blue ones for a few seconds until suddenly, Wimbi was pulled away from the cage. Fillien's eyes narrowed as she hissed towards Ulrich who had Wimbi by the scruff while he had the canister under his other arm and the flask of her blood in hand. But he didn't let that stop him from using all his strength to hold Wimbi in his grip. "A Dire Wolf… with enhanced aquatic abilities. I'm sure I don't have you in my notes."
Fillien growled and sat up in her cage so her front paws banged into the bars. "You let him go!"
"A specimen like this shows me your kind of mutation indeed can work twice. He's not going anywhere."
As Wimbi struggled to wrench himself free, he heard what Ulrich said which made him ask, "Specimen? For what-?" Wimbi froze when he looked around the lab. The computers, the science equipment, the cages, the canister in the arms of a man wearing a lab coat. The next thing Wimbi knew, he found himself back in a laboratory. Silver walls at every turn. The life drained from everything. Even the Caucasian men who all looked the same didn't feel alive. Needles came with it, along with a blue icky substance. And pain, so much pain. He was nothing but a cub again… a kid.
Instinct drove Wimbi and maneuvered his head around so that Ulrich's hand went from being over him and gripping fur to being forced to let go and by Wimbi's chin. So the wolfman took the chance and bit Ulrich's hand, drawing blood. "AYYE!" Ulrich yelled as he stepped back and shook his hand off the pain. "Petite- (You little-)"
"K-Kraang ordor you t-to…."
Wimbi, Fillien, and Ulrich looked wide eye towards the other side of the lab. Pieces of Kraang were everywhere, but some Kraang had managed to stay intact while hitting the ground earlier. Two stood up with pieces of glass sticking into different parts of the droid's exterior. They stepped over broken lamp parts and held up their blasters to aimed towards Ulrich and Wimbi. One said through broken voice box, "-order to do that wh-which is known as surrender-"
"Sitarudi kuzimu hiyo! (I'm not going back to that hell!)" Wimbi yelled as he ran away.
"Wimbi, no!" Fillien yelled but it was too late. It caused the Kraang to start shooting towards him and Urlich. Wimbi could only jump around or run around any furniture he could find, which wasn't much.
Ulrich on the other hand could only duck left or right, his feet going up and down as he avoided stepping on broken supplies and getting shot. "Nom de dieu- (for gods sakes-) I'm not the enemy. I work with the Shredder!"
Seeing the chaos, Fillien tried to figure a way out to at least help Wimbi. She looked at the lock on the door, noticing it wasn't a cage with a lock and key, but a machine that required a number code. With a smirk, Fillien yelled out, "Hey! Brains in buckets!" One Kraang looked her way. Fillien made sure to position her chest just behind the lock. "You… you stink!" She could normally do better on the name-calling but thankfully it was enough.
The Kraang aimed and Fillien shut her eyes as the lock was hit. It sizzled before it sparked and shut down. A click was heard and the door unlocked. Not missing beat, Fillien pushed it open and jumped out. The cat's first task; jump the Kraang. Fillien managed to roll forward and then jump high into the air to avoid a couple of blasts before tackling one down. She grabbed it's hands in her jaws and ripped them off.
Wimbi saw what she did to one Kraang and tried to replicate the move himself. He managed to roll forward, but before he could jump high he tripped on his own feet. His chin hit the ground as well as his chest with rear in the air. For a moment he was embarrassed before he realized the Kraang stood over him and aimed a blaster to his head. Fillien bit into its leg to get it to focus on her. While it worked, Wimbi still scooted back in fear but bumped into Ulrich.
The man stumbled and fell on his back but managed to maneuver the canister and flask away from getting crushed under his weight. "Phew…" he sighed in relief.
As Wimbi sat up in surprise and looked back at Ulrich, the Kraang had managed to use its blaster to hit Fillien in the face, forcing her to let go of its leg. The Kraang droid looked back at Wimbi as the wolfman looked back in time to see it aim its blaster at him. That's when Ulrich had managed to sit up with canister and flask held close to his chest. He looked up in time to see Wimbi jump away. With Wimbi no longer in between him and the Kraang, the droid blaster was now aimed at Ulrich. "Pas bon… (Not good…)"
The sound of glass shattering was all Ulrich heard, the world almost feeling like it was going in slow motion as he felt burning pain in his hands. Glass flew everywhere. Mutagen and blood mixed together before dripping all over him. The canister and flask falling to pieces in front of him. The world righted itself again, but all Ulrich could do was look down at his hand bitten by Wimbi earlier now covered in goo and the cat girl's blood.
The Kraang got ready to fire again, but Fillien took it down with ease, also biting its arms off like she did the other. Then she looked up when a scream echoed all around the lab. Ulrich was on his hands and knees as he cried out in pain. Fur began to grow from his hands as his nose began to grow long. For a moment, the sight sent Fillien back to that day on top of the Wolf building. The day she felt pain like his. Her mutation day. Wimbi snapped her out of it by running out of hiding below the desk underneath the monitors and barking, "Let us get out of here!"
Fillien blinked and looked around. The Kraang who got in were destroyed, Ulrich was distracted, and Wimbi was safe. They could run away easily. Fillien looked back at Ulrich once more before reminding herself that he had it coming. She would never wish anyone to be mutated, but if Fillien couldn't reason with him earlier then this was the only way to stop him. Leaving the man to suffer, the catgirl followed after Wimbi.
The two found the entrance quickly and together ran out into the open streets. Once they knew they were for sure safe, Fillien and Wimbi stopped breathless on a crossroads. They looked around, trying to see if they were followed. No Kraang. No Ulrich. Fillien asked as she caught her breath, "What…. What just happened?"
"I'm sorry. I did not mean to cause more trouble where there was already. I got scared… when I saw the Kraang again. Following your scent was all I could do."
Seeing Wimbi shake a little made the cat reach a wing out and rest it on his shoulders. It's ok. I'm grateful you came. He was planning on using me to create an army of our type of mutation. Not only did you destroy what he needed but it helped set me free."
Wimbi shook his head of disbelief. "An army… of hybridized mutants. As much as I like the idea of more of our kind I also see the problem. Especially him. He sounded so much like the Kraang when I was a boy. Whow was he?"
"Former member of the League, now works with the Foot Clan."
"You spoke of you and your friend's former affiliations somewhat, but you said they work with the Kraang?"
"The Kraang sometimes can't tell the difference."
"They are simple-minded that way."
Fillien nodded before she looked on. She tried to imagine what Ulrich was going through now. What had he turned into? Was he scared? Confused? Fillien hated that feeling. Maybe she shouldn't have left that man alone to mutate. Fillien then looked to Wimbi. But they had to to leave. If Ulrich had turned into a mindless monster, he could have hurt Wimbi.
A bright light at the corner of their eye made them look up at the sky. A rocket types missile was seen breaching the cloudy sky before it disappeared into the grey sky. "What was that now?" Wimbi asked, sounding tired.
"Something Kraang. Maybe best we take shelter. Besides you got to tell me how you got here."
"And you have to tell me how you got into that mess earlier," Wimbi added with a cheeky smirk.
Fillien nudged his shoulders with her forearm and said, "That's a deal."
)))))))))))))) Ulrich's Lab (((((((((((((((
Kraang and glass pieces still littered the warehouse floor. The lamps any energy it had left and were now shot off completely. Leaving only the light cast by the monitors.
Slowly, a silhouette stood in front of it. Hunched over and standing on two, fury canine feet. Long shaggy tail swaying back and forth, often twitching. The creatures rolled it's shoulders up and down, stretching its muscles to show shoulder blades poking through fur. Clawed human hands slammed on the desktop. Feathers grew long from below the elbow before getting shorter before stopping at the ribcage. A long canine snout bared teeth as it growled. Pointed ears went flat on its head. They howled for anyone closeby to hear.
A.N: Freeeeedoooooom! And Wimbi and Fillien are reunited! But it took…. Another mutation?! Yeah I kind of miss doing these lol. Creature creations are fun! So next we get to find out what Wimbi's been up to finally move along with the story ahaha. So give me about a week or two and i should be back with a new chapter. Hopefully. I'm KikaKatTIOI, peace out!
