Of You, Me, and Us
Summary: "I like you." When those words left her lips, Botan had expected to hear him utter words of apology. After all, she didn't think he felt the same way about her. She didn't expect Kurama looking straight at her in the eyes before leaning closer to kiss her. And although he didn't say anything, one glance at the expression on his face was enough to tell her: she was his now.

Chapter 41: Familiarity
They were always in sync, Yusuke couldn't help but notice.
Kurama and Botan were complete opposites- even up until now the former Spirit Detective lacked the capability to fully grasp how two distinct people could end up being together. Not that he was opposed to their relationship. If anything, he was more than overjoyed by seeing them so happy with one another. But he still found it terribly odd- especially when they worked very well together; almost too well, as a matter of fact. Their motions were regularly concurrent, almost as if they could match each other's paces and actions to a flawless tee. It sometimes freaked him out.
Just the other day, he came by at Kurama's house, promptly finding out about Botan's current situation with Reikai in the process and threatening to pick a fight with the high and mighty ruler of the spirit realm before his reckless actions were swiftly halted by the fox himself. It took the ex-delinquent a long time to accept it until Kurama reprimanded him that such a hasty choice would bring about nothing but more trouble. Yusuke had reluctantly obliged, though he still harbored the perception that Enma Daioh deserved a good ass-kicking to realize the indefinite level of asshole-ness that he seemed to have. He still held a tiny grudge over the assassination order that had been issued when they found out that he was a Mazoku.
But that was besides the point.
He had stopped by at Kurama's place in order to discuss something with him- mostly about Keiko as he tended to consult with the redhead about his marital problems. Not too serious though- just that he had a knack of being an insensitive jerk and Keiko seemed to have a bit of a short temper when it came to him. He had forgotten about their wedding anniversary and his wife had been sulking in their room for a while now. He had planned on asking for Kurama's advice on how to persuade her to stop brooding over his mistake when he noticed the way their movements seemed to coexist together.
Kurama and Botan were prone to spending their Wednesday evenings indulging themselves in the lovely arts of literature- something Yusuke couldn't really understand because he, for one, despised reading with all he was worth. But apparently it was a thing for the two engaged lovers, and Yusuke soon found himself to be the third wheel in the day's events.
Though he should have excused himself and left for the door the moment he felt as if he was barging in on their moment, Yusuke felt himself rooted on the spot, feet apparently glued to the floor as he watched with intent and growing bewilderment as Kurama and Botan began two debate over something he was once again unable to comprehend- some nonsense about The Great Gatsby or something; Yusuke couldn't really be bothered to care. But what caught his attention was the way their actions appeared to mimic one another.
When Kurama lifted his left arm to offer some kind of well-thought elaboration- again, something Yusuke would never be capable of doing because he was a man of coarse language- Botan seemed to copy his actions, hoisting her left hand in the air as she spoke with a sense of eloquence that Yusuke hadn't realized she possessed. Kurama had then tuck a lock of his red hair behind his ear, and Botan had done the same. She had reached for her mug of hot chocolate that Kurama had prepared for the three of them, and Kurama had extended his hand out to grab at his. They had sipped at the same time, had probably swallowed the same amount of gulps, before they had then stopped drinking simultaneously. Yusuke thought it was sweet, but to a creepy extent.
By the time they were done conversing about books, Yusuke was already consumed with utter boredom and on the verge of letting his drowsiness get the better of them. That was until Botan abruptly held out her hand towards Kurama, and the redhead seemed to somewhat understand and proceeded to give her the black remote reserved for the television- all this they did without sharing any words or without a hint of command from the former ferry girl and it shook Yusuke to the core. Kurama craned his neck as if in discomfort, and Botan apparently took that as a sign that the hair tie constraining his crimson mane in place was too tight and becoming too painful. She proceeded to take it off before she then scrunched up her nose for whatever reason and Kurama- once again for reasons Yusuke couldn't really put his finger on- seemed to know what she wanted and scratched the hard contours of her nose as if the skin there had itched. Yusuke felt as if he was watching a freak show. He had never seen two people so matching in both pace and actions, the understanding between them seemingly boundless as he continued to observe more acts of muted, incomprehensible demands and oddly in sync motions.
After long moments of surveying the odd display, a smile began to slowly spread on his visage as he remarked, more to himself than to the two fiancees,
"You guys are weirdly good together."
He was rewarded with matching baffled frowns from Kurama and Botan in return.
A/N: Hope this didn't creep you guys out lol. I've always thought that the more you like a person, the more you seem to copy their actions, y'know? Though that's just my opinion, of course. But anyways, I was about to say that I'll be backing up my stories in AO3 as well, just in case anything happens and I wouldn't want to lose all my precious works just like that. So, if you guys notice any of my fics being taken down, you can go over there. I haven't backed up all of them, but I will in time. There's just too much lol. Don't worry though; I'm not having problems as of yet- this is merely a backup plan! ;)
saillovelypines- Lol, I understand how such a misunderstanding could have occurred. My apologies, I wrote the previous chapter whilst trying to fight my sleepiness so my brain couldn't come up with a more suitable title. I might change it later though.
h114- God yes. I'd like someone to draw some cute fanarts of KB as well. God knows we need more of them lmao. You might need to sleep with one eye open tonight though- Kurama might end up feeding you to his Ojigi plants in your sleep XD (just kidding)
