III - 2 Years Later in Rio
Surprisingly, the last two years were peaceful. I mean I of course spent 6 months in that Correctional Institution but it was really not bad. I used my spare time doing gymnastics, martial arts, and reading books to learn stuff that could come in handy in the future and learn Brazillian Portuguese because I planned to go to Rio at some point.
Once those 6 months were over, I was released and unlike the 5 years when I was on the run, I didn't have to worry about cops and Feds trying to get me. I felt free. Of course, the first thing I tried to do was find Gisele and I managed to meet her in Mexico and we did spend some quality time together and have fully gotten into a relationship. We both explained our pasts and I was a bit surprised to hear that she was a Mossad agent at some point. We eventually parted ways but did promise that we'd call each other and meet if we ever get the chance.
I found out that Dom escaped going to prison with help from Leo, Santos, Mia and even Brian. And because of this, Dom, Mia and Brian are fugitives. This meant I wasn't able to see them.
And for the next 2 years, I just stayed in California and worked as a mechanic in my own garage until I got a random phone call from Vince of all people who wanted me to come down to Rio for something he had planned.
So I went down to Rio by flight and that's where and when we are right now.
2011
I have just gotten out of the airport and I remember Vince telling me where he lives in Rio and with some currency of the country, I got into a taxi and told him to go up to the favelas and told him where in particular.
As he drove me to my destination, I couldn't help but look at the people and the kind of community this place is. Everyone knows each other and there's an aura of loyalty that I can relate to.
After a while, we reached where I asked him to take me and I thanked and got out.
I was standing outside of some place called Joao Trajano. I looked and saw some stairs that led up, and I walked up them but as I did, I heard a car pull up and then I heard a voice I haven't heard in 2 years.
"It's got to be it, right?" A woman's voice asked. And it was Mia. I turned and rushed down the stairs and there she was, along with Brian.
"Guys?" I asked in complete surprise and they instantly turned and saw me. They too were equally as shocked as I was.
"David?" Mia asked. I smiled and I jumped over the railing and hugged them both tightly, just so glad to see them again. And they hugged me back just as tight.
"I'm so happy to see you guys. What are you doing here?" I asked them as we parted.
"Vince called us up." Brian told me. Really? Well. this will be interesting.
"What do you know, he called me up as well." I said and they were surprised to hear this and so we walked up the stairs I was at and we got cautious because some locals were watching us and then as we walked some more, they surrounded us and had guns with them.
"Let's get out of here." Brian said but as we were about to leave….
"Whoa, whoa! Easy, friends. They're with me." A voice shouted to the men in Portuguese and the owner of that voice walked out and it was Vince. I smiled seeing him. I was just glad to see him again.
"Mia, David." He laughed and we hugged him.
"Hey, Vince." I said, so happy to see him again because I had no clue what happened to him after he was transported by helicopter years ago. We then parted and Vince looked over to Brian, and I was curious what would happen considering the tense dynamic they had when they last met.
"Buster." Vince greeted him, referring to when he did his first street race. And Brian made a small smirk.
"Come on." Vince told us and so we followed him through the narrow paths through this part of Rio.
"Is Dom here yet?" Brian asked Vince. I didn't remember Vince saying anything about him when he phoned me.
"Nah." He replied.
"When was the last time you heard from him." Mia asked him.
"A couple of weeks ago. Up in Ecuador somewhere." Vince informed us. Since he hasn't been found yet, it wasn't surprising to hear he's in some area that doesn't get much attention.
"How does it feel?" Vince asked I assume Brian. And I might know what he's asking him.
"What's that?" He asked.
"To be on the other side of a wanted poster?" Vince detailed. Of course, he was a cop and so for him to be a crook is definitely something I'd ask. And because he was a cop, he'd make a good criminal.
"He'll show up." Brian told Mia, not answering the question. Mia replied with a quiet 'yeah'.
We got to his home and it was nice to see that he has a family, with a wife and two kids. They cooked us a meal and while I ate it slow, Mia and Brian ate like they were starving. Being fugitives must've been hard for them.
"Dom's?" Vince's wife asked her husband about us.
"Yeah." Vince replied.
After we finished the food, I complimented the cooking because it was really good. Mia was with his wife and youngest child while me and Brian were talking with him.
As we sat down, I saw the scars on Vince's arm from when the rope was wrapped around it during the heist gone wrong.
"How's the arm?" I asked him.
"It's good. The doctors did a good job." He said.
"Why Rio, Vince?" Brian then asked.
"You mean after you screwed everything up in LA? Ended up free falling through South America, you know, hitting every hellhole on the way down. Would have kept on going if not for Rosa." Vince explained to us. I can't imagine how rough it must've been for him. To be separated by his family and then to be alone, going through shit. It seems that Rosa saved him.
And I noticed the look on Brian's face. It had guilt written over it.
And then Mia came in. She looked a bit nauseous. Wait…. She's never been nauseous about anything and if a woman's nauseous suddenly…. Oh. My. God. She's pregnant. I can't bring it up now.
"So, listen. There is a job coming up. I was hoping Dom was going to be here by now but this one is clean enough we can do it without him. It's a good gig. Couple of high end cars, easy targets. Guy I know is putting together a team to swipe them. Just need a few more willing bodies." Vince told us this job. Now, I don't mind doing it since I'm loyal to my family, but something about this seemed off. I just don't know what.
"I don't know." Brian was hesitant about the idea, though that was to be expected because of his past with Vince.
"Look, the way the car scene is down here we can unload them quick and get top dollar. It's easy money. And from where I'm sitting, it looks like you both could use the payday and David will be there to help since we can trust him." Vince reasoned. He's right. This can help out Brian and Mia and since I am trustful, they can feel better about doing this.
So all three of us agreed.
Following Day
Part of the plan was for me, Brian and Mia to get on a train that the cars were transported in while Vince went to get the help needed for this job.
We got on the train and we got out of Rio and were now in the middle of some scorched desert. I wasn't seated with Mia and Brian since it would raise suspicion. I looked over to see Brian and Mia and they had smiles on their faces. I smiled myself to see them together. It was nice to see these two fix their issues and be in love with each other.
They then walked through the train car and past me. Brian tapped my shoulder and a few seconds after, I got up myself and walked with them. Brian managed to get a card from the guy Mia bumped into and we used to replicate onto another card to get into the train car we needed to get into with the cars.
The door slid open and we entered to see the cars under tarps.
"Hey, we've found them. Yeah, second to the last freighter." Brian informe over the phone.
There were keys behind a plate of glass and so I punched it so that we can use these keys. Brian then grabbed them and his face shifted to being worried.
"What is it?" Mia asked him.
"DEA tags. These cars have been seized." He told us. Okay, this is now sketchy. He and Mia pulled the tarp off of one of the cars, while I did the same to another. The one they uncovered was a 1972 De Tomaso Pantera GTS and I uncovered a sweet looking 1966 Chevrolet Grand Sport Sting Ray. And then there was a Ford GT40.
Then there were some sparks on the wall as we did the necessary things to make sure we got the cars ready to be transported out. Once we finished, the sparks were from the others making a hole big enough to get the cars out. It was then torn off and light shot in, making it difficult to see anything at first, but then as my eyes adjusted I saw Vince with some that I didn't know; and then there he was. Dom.
I grinned upon seeing him. He actually got here just in time.
"Look who showed up." Vince said. Mia hugged Dom first and then when they parted, I hugged Dom.
"I'm glad to see your okay, brother." I greeted him warmly.
"I thought I told you to lay low." Dom said to Brian.
"Been running on fumes. Had to make a call." Brian argued.
"Hey! Quit talking. We only got the two minute window." One of the men spat at us as the rest used their equipment.
"Let's go, Vince." Dom said.
"I'm taking the GT40." The man that spat at us said in Portuguese. I noticed the look on Dom's face. He was suspicious of him and if he's suspicious about anything, then so am I. Vince was in the GTS and they pulled it onto the vehicle they used to get here and Vince drove off with the car.
The guy was about to get into the GT40 when Dom stopped him with a hand to the chest.
"Ladies first." Dom told him. Of course, try to get Mia out of here in case things get ugly. And it was the right move since she's pregnant.
Mia then walked up to the GT40 and opened the door as the other guy was about to do something, but Brian stopped him.
"This car suits me better." Mia shot at him in Portuguese. She then properly got in and they hooked the car up. The two guys whispered something but I couldn't hear them. Me, Dom and Brian looked at each other, knowing that something's up and so Dom leaned in to say something to Mia.
"Change of plans. Wait for my call." He whispered and she nodded.
"Let's go!" He then shouted. The car then got on the vehicle and she drove off, though not in the same direction Vince went in.
"Where is she going?" The guy asked. We didn't answer.
"Where is she going?!" He then shouted with his gun pointed at Dom and he shoved it out of the way, making him shoot a bullet. He then fought against him as me and Brian handled the other guy. Brian blocked his punch and I kicked the guy in the leg, giving Brian an opening to punch him in the face. Then they wanted the guy in the vehicle to go after Mia. Me and Dom handled this guy while Brian can make sure they don't go after her by jumping on the vehicle to stop the driver. The guy who would've shot Dom came at him with a crowbar to hit him but I stopped him and pushed him away while Dom dealt with the other.
He tried to hit me but I dodged him and punched him in the stomach and grabbed the crowbar off of him and hit him in the face with it, making his nose and mouth bleed. I saw Dom throw the guy out, making him hit the bridge, killing him and I pushed this guy to him and he punched him square in the face.
He then punched him over and over until the train shook as though something crashed into it.
We looked to see the guy had disappeared.
"What was that?" I asked Dom and he didn't answer as an explosion from outside caught our attention. I looked out to see Brian hanging onto the vehicle that was now embedded into the train and was on fire.
"Shit! Brian's in trouble!" I told him.
"Bridge! There's a bridge!" Brian shouted to me. Damn!
There was the Sting Ray left and so we both got in the car, with Dom behind the wheel.
"Freeze!" Some agents shouted at us, pointing their guns at us until the guy we thought disappeared shot them down.
Dom started the car and we got out and then Dom drove to be aligned with Brian so that he could jump onto the car.
Dom then got closer as the Bridge was getting closer.
Brian then jumped, grabbing onto the car and we kept going until we drove off of a cliff, falling to a river.
Everything was now in slow motion as we jumped out and just hoped we didn't get close to the car.
Well, the car gods because we didn't get hit by it and we got in the water, perfectly fine.
We got to the surface of the water and coughed due to the air being knocked out of us from impact.
"You had to make a call, huh?" Dom questioned Brian.
"Yeah, it might've been a shitty call, Brian." I said. But then we heard tires screeching and then some men pointed guns at us. Shit!
We were blindfolded after we swam to shore and then handcuffed us. They took us to who knows where and then we ended up hanging up above the ground and then our blindfolds were removed just as some men walked in. One of them was some older guy in a suit and next to him was the same guy from earlier.
"You three stirred up quite a bit of trouble today. Three of my men dead. Three DEA agents along with them. Of course, this is business and sometimes things go astray." Suit guy said to us. We don't give a shit about your trouble.
"All I care about is the car. Tell me where it is, and I'll let you go." He then told us. Why would he just care about one car. More than likely the GT40, but still, why would he care for it?
"This roofing says you're full of shit." Brian quipped. This made the man chuckle.
"I don't know how you guys do business in your part of the world, but here in Rio, I like it when all parties know what they're up against." The guy stated.
"That's funny. Because it goes both ways." Dom replied to that.
"You know, I hear your sister is very beautiful, Wherever she hides I will find her." He threatened Dom. We all tensed up from that.
"You won't find her. She's too good." I barked at him and he looked at me with a smug look on his face that said 'Oh I will'. I glared at him.
Then he and his lackeys except for three of them left. Then we heard cars outside and then one of the three came up only for Brian to kick him and Dom got out of his restraints and headbutted him, stopped the other two, pushing them to me and Brian and we both wrapped our legs around their necks to cut off the air in their lungs while Dom dealt with the last guy.
Once we dealt with them, Dom got me and Brian out and we escaped.
We stealthed our way through Rio to get to where Mia was in a safe house.
When we reached there, Brian went in first due to him wanting to make sure Mia was okay.
Shortly after, me and Dom entered and there was Mia in Brian's arms.
We hugged her, just glad she's alright and we saw that she had a metal pipe in her hand.
"Hey, yeah. Just like a Toretto." Dom said to a smiling Mia.
"Where's Vince?" Mia then asked us. I frowned because she was right, where did he go?
"That's a good question." Brian said. He knew to come here, so why isn't he here?
"He'll be here?" Dom assured.
"Guys, we're all over the news. They're blaming us for the killing of those DEA agents on the train. Including you, David." Mia updated the situation. Well, there goes me being clean now. There's no going back now.
"Which means we just jumped to the top of the wanted list. The Feds have got to show everyone their agents are off limits and they're gonna send their best guys. We gotta get out of here." Brian said. He was right. Some top dogs will chase after us now.
"One thing we know for sure is that they wanted this car." Dom reminded us of what that guy said. Keep in mind, this car would be easy to afford for someone like him, so….
"There must be something inside it then." I connected the dots.
"If we find out what it is, we'll know what we're up against." Dom told us.
We spent the whole day into the night, pulling this car apart to see if we can find whatever it is that the guy wanted and so far we have found nothing.
Then we heard the door open and I looked to see that it was Vince.
"Goddamn. What a mess!" He said, reacting to what we're doing.
"Where you been, man?" Brian asked with not so subtle bitterness in his voice.
"You better check that tone." Vince warned him and Brian got up.
"And you just better answer the goddamn question." Brian told him. There was clear tension.
"Stop it! Both of you." Mia scolded them, getting in between them.
"So where were you? You've been gone all day." I asked him.
"Guys all over the favelas asking about you. Couldn't get out of there without leading them straight to you. Had to wait 'em out." Vince confessed. Seemed like a good reason.
"Oh, that is such horseshit. That was your job, and those were your guys!" Brian snapped at him.
"Hey!" Vince snapped at him and me and Dom had to hold him back while Mia did the same with Brian.
"Hey! Enough, O'Conner! If he said he didn't do it, he didn't do it. Go walk it off." Dom spat at him.
Brian looked frustrated and walked away.
The next day we were just taking a breather and didn't do anything. We were eventually told of who those guys were. The one in the suit was named Reyes and his top lackey was Zizi.
When it was nighttime, me and Dom were still up just thinking, you. And we were in the shadows, and that was partly because I like to think in the shadows.
And then suddenly Vince walked in, looking suspicious and then he was leaning in at a particular part of the car and he pulled out a computer chip. I can't believe it. He was working for those men and he didn't even tell us all the details. He put Mia at risk! He actually betrayed us!
"Almost wish we didn't see that." Dom said, letting our presence known to Vince who dropped the chip.
"Almost." I coolly said glaring at him as we walked up to him.
"Wait." He begged.
"Mia was on that train." Dom quietly said before we both shoved him up hard against the pillar behind him.
"MY SISTER!" Dom snapped.
"I didn't know. I wouldn't do anything to hurt her." Vince tried to reason with us but that wasn't enough.
"YOU SET UP THE DEAL!" I spat at him right into his face. I have never been this angry in my life. Practically my sister was at risk of being hurt, and especially as she's pregnant.
"I thought the job was for the cars. I didn't know. All they wanted was the chip." Vince backed up rather calmly.
Dom slammed his hands on the pillar making Vince jump.
"You should've come clean." Dom scolded him.
"What's going on out here?" Mia asked with Brian by her side.
"Nothing." I told her as we walked away from Vince.
"Please, just let me have the chip. I can take this to them. They'll give it to Reyes and set things right." Vince begged. We just had enough of this.
"Get out." Dom told him.
"What?" Vince questioned in confusion.
"Get out!" Dom snapped at him loudly. Vince then started to walk his way out until he stopped and looked back at us.
"You never listen to me. Not when I told you he was a cop, and not now. You never trust me and look where it's gotten us. Look at our family now. I can't go home! Your sister is stuck in this life and David is now back being hunted down!" Vince said, feeling betrayed.
"Where's Letty, Dom? Where's Letty?" He then had the audacity to ask.
"I think it's you leave, Vince. Now." I warned him in a monotone voice, containing my anger.
Then he walked away.
