Hawks

(Mentions of blood and wounds)

After the meeting in which four students from the U.A. he had no doubt that the recent threat of a new drug was the result of the last meeting that Shigaraki had had with someone whom I still cannot identify.

All the incidents with villains, or rather petty criminals, had been nothing more than robberies, none were related to any narcotic. We had been asked to furtively look for any sign of organized crime, yakuza or clans, but we still had not been able to find any indicator that would relate the events to each other. Maybe I should expand my patrol area.

The next day, I decided to report to my favorite hero's agency to see if he would have any helpful information, or at least something to help me create a smokescreen so I have more time.

– Good afternoon, Endeavor! – I liked to surprise him. Even though he hated it when he appeared to me from the window, he never bothered to close it. I know he secretly likes me more than he will ever admit.

– I'm going to remove the windows in this office – cleaning up the coffee that was spilled when I surprised him

– Then I'll find another way to brighten your days – sitting on the edge of his desk

– I'm busy – when not? You are hero number one – what do you want?

– Have you managed to collect any information regarding the case of drugs that erases the quirks temporarily?

– No. My team and I are still searching Hokkaido prefecture. – He looked tense.

– In the area I cover, I have not managed to make progress. I would like a detailed list of the prefectures and the heroes in charge of them. We are against the clock – I was looking at the window so that, when I looked back at the burning man, he was contemplative – Do you want an autograph? – He made the usual grimace he makes when he sees me

– I'll ask Burnin to give you a copy

– That's why you are my favorite hero! – My wings expanded and the temperature of the office rose, too bad not in the context I wanted ... If I didn't get away from him fast enough, my feathers would have turned to ashes. – By the way, how is Best Jeanist? – Although he had no intention of following Shigaraki's instructions, he had to get as much information from him to formulate an alibi.

– He's still stable, but he's under strict surveillance. – He answered without taking his eyes off the documents on his desk – Why do you want to know?

– It's the duty of a hero to know about his colleagues. – I was beginning to feel anxious, but needed more information. – Who is at the head of the agency while you are away?

– As I understand it is your first assistant. It is all that I know. Do you need something from him? – For this he returned his sight to me, which sent a shock to my spine. Maybe in another setting, this would be more intimate, but it was not being convincing enough that kept me on my toes.

– I wanted to know if they are also investigating like us. That's it.

– I have no idea. – looking back at the papers I was reading with assistance

The malleable–haired girl you referred to earlier came through the door with a rather thick folder.

– This is what you requested, Endeavor

– They are for him – and then he handed them over to me. They were quite heavy

– Can't you message me?

– That's what you wanted. Now can you leave me alone?

– I'll send it to you later – the smiling girl secreted me, before walking away.

– As always Endeavor, you are the best thing that happened to Musutafu – I congratulated, before letting me fall through the nearest window, ignoring his cries of annoyance as I spread the papers by the blast of air I created.

After reviewing the information Burnin sent me, I decided to start investigating these sections carefully. Maybe we have been overlooking something by underestimating areas with greater population. After all, there is no less way to go unnoticed than in the crowd.

I approached the urban area, in the vicinity of the Musutafu General Hospital. As might be expected, it was calm and clear. From the rooftop of the hospital, no passer–by or administrative member seemed to belong to a secret organization; Nor would anyone be able to imagine that I am a double agent, and here I am trying to find something suspicious while concocting the alibi to simulate a murder, all in one night.

I was about to continue to my next destination, when a dark and rather agile figure moved away from some trees near the hospital. I quickly decided to follow to intercept him, but lost sight of him as soon as I got to where I thought he was. I relaxed my repair and felt the change in air pressure on my feathers. Got you!

– You're faster than I thought, Hawks – Dabi. He had one of my feathers a short distance from his neck.

– What are you doing here?

– I went out to get some air – he had a carefree posture. Considering the recent Shigaraki reunion, I doubt this is mere coincidence. He exuded a gloomy and menacing aura, despite his uninhibited posture.

– Right here. Isn't it too far from the hiding?

– Or maybe I wanted to see you? – Approaching me – And since we agree, have you gotten any information about the Best Jeanist files? – Damn, I still haven't thought of an alibi.

– What are a few more days? – He moved so fast that, by the time I realized what was happening, he managed to place my hands on my back. He was also faster than I thought.

– If you make a single movement with your feathers, we will both end up incinerated – my feathers surrounded him, but I had already seen the scope of his flames. I must be cautious.

– I never thought you would be so devoted to Shigaraki – His face was so close that our breaths collided slightly, and his eyes were a bright turquoise color

– Your mind games won't work on me, little bird. – Releasing me, jumping back. – The faster the security standards of this filthy society are lowered, the sooner I will get rid of it, as well as the false heroes. He is but a means to an end.

– So many annoyances just to get rid of those who seek the common good. It must be exhausting. – trying to appear relaxed

– So, you think? – He directed towards me a blast of fire that reached several meters high, whose temperature allowed me to perceive its power. Not for nothing was he one of the leading members of the Paranormal Liberation Front, but we couldn't draw attention. – They are nothing more than a facade that seeks the admiration of those who save as a motivation to feel like heroes. – Just Stain's designs.

– You don't have to worry. We're on the same side – I approached him, even knowing how volatile and dangerous it was to be at such a close distance, but I had to show that I trusted him, somehow. He put his hands in the pockets of his jacket.

– In that case, you have until tomorrow to collect information. – He said, shortly after taking me by the neck; this had to be one of his hobbies. His grip was not strong, but firm. – Or I'll be the one in charge of exposing you, potential hero number two – releasing his grip, disappearing into the dark. I tried to find him, but I didn't feel his presence. It would be difficult to deal with him, especially with such power.

The next day, early in the morning, I was in the vicinity of the Best Jeanist agency. One of my feathers served as a receiver of vibrations in the air, attached to a window, hidden in a barely visible place. Between vague conversations regarding regular patrols and location reports, I heard the information that, to my luck and misfortune, was just what I needed.

– Best Jeanist is in promising recovery. – the voice was female

– Hopefully soon he will return to his duties again – this time, it was male. – For now, take these documents to the archives. – I followed the vibrations in the air, to attach my feather to the girl. Focusing on the trajectory of her tour, she made her way to the top floor of the building, where after passing through a heavily armored passageway, she entered an area covered in organizers. I knew Best Jeanist was conservative, but all that paperwork wouldn't make this any easier. It was just as archaic as Endeavor, all for not relying on the advantages of digital information.

I drew the feather towards me again, to get away from the place without attracting attention.

That afternoon I was thinking of some way to deter or divert attention to the Best Jeanist files, with no apparent alternative. Considering the nature of their condition, unless they made more copies of those files, those would be unique records. This was not a random strategy, but what exactly they intended. I was flying around the city when an explosion broke my concentration. Upon arriving at the site, it was a gas tank that was rapidly expanding through the site. Looking for a responsible person, I came across a grotesque–looking anthropomorphic figure.

– A Nomu?

– Indeed – from one of the smoke screens, Mr. Compress appeared. – This was just to get your attention. There are not even injuries.

– So much fuss just to get my attention? – Showing a relaxed attitude. – You even brought that questionable looking little friend with you

– This? – pointing with a pejorative expression to the monster behind him – It is nothing more than a hook. – And then, he locked it in one of his spheres. I could see that his left arm was now prosthetic. – Since we are finally reunited, why don't you come with me. – Hanging on me. I knew that he could easily capture me if I tried to do something. I had to stay calm. – Kurogiri, do the honors – for a portal to open before us. The fire engine siren could be heard a short distance away and he knew that once he got through the portal, he would have no escape. – Let's go! – He encouraged with enthusiasm almost pushing me.

– I can see you have a new attachment as a left arm. – I was just doing time before reaching the meeting point, where I imagine the others were – Any special reason?

– This is the product of a minor incident. Nothing important. – He seemed uncomfortable and then returned to his jovial attitude. – Good morning to all! – Bringing me in – Take a seat.

Spinner was sharpening a knife in a corner of the room, Toga was in a kind of fist with Twice, who seemed to be absorbed in the place. Kurogiri was pouring a strong alcohol–smelling liquid into a glass for Shigaraki, who was right in front of me with a much darker expression than on other occasions, and on the right side, I could feel Dabi's expectant gaze, as if from a harpoon it will be; right up to my neck.

– It's been a week since you were last here. Have you got any information? – Everyone's eyes were on me; I had to think of something fast

– Best Jeanist is recovering satisfactorily.

– Tomura! – If it weren't for Kurogiri's intervention, I'm sure I'd be disintegrated. Indeed, he was more unstable since the last time I saw him.

– Don't try to distract me. I need information from the damn heroes – the atmosphere in the entire room turned to a thicker. Any of them could take turns attacking me without thinking.

– The files are kept in the upper part of the agency – I continued. Reconsidering my options, I came to the conclusion that the omission of certain data would give me time for an ambush. – As I can see, they are confident that, as they are professional heroes, they don't need greater security.

– Why would they be at the top? – Inquired Spinner

– There is no safer place to protect something than the most obvious – Dabi guessed. I didn't think you would agree with me.

– In that case, the attack will be executed tomorrow – his guttural voice expressed discomfort – and you will see to it that it's carried out without mishaps, hero – the leader of the anti-socials, kept his intimidating gaze. Knowing Spinner's combat skills and Twice's instability, it wouldn't be that difficult to handle the situation if he manipulated them when the time came.

– I want to accompany you – requested the bearer of the quirk of fire. That wasn't a good sign. – If the situation were to get complicated, it could be time. – Dabi was the most volatile of the three, he would not hesitate to execute me if he has the opportunity – How about tonight?

– In agreement. – Shigaraki got up irritated, ignoring Kurogiri

– Tomura, don't give impulsive orders. You must analyze the situation before ... – He threw the container he was holding towards his interlocutor, spreading a strong smell of brandy, resuming his withdrawal. I wonder if his annoyance is a result of the meeting, he had days before.

– At last we will have the opportunity to work as a team. – Dabi approached me with total equanimity – I hope your mutual cooperation, ally – showing a maddened smile, before leaving the room.

– One wrong move, and there won't be a second time – The reptile followed the black–haired man to the exit.

– It will be the first time you cooperate with Dabi – Mr. Compress communicated, sitting next to me – I must say that he has a… mysterious personality. He can go from a total genius to a deranged at any moment, but he'll always know what to do if the situation gets complicated – he turned my face towards him – and as a good ally, I know that you will be of support if necessary – he said to loosen my chin. Now I had to think of a strategy where I contemplated several possibilities, but, with someone as unpredictable as he, it would be much more difficult to control the situation. – So much talk whet my appetite, do you want something to eat?

– Like the last time, once you finish, you'll have to communicate with me to escape – Kurogiri indicated opening a portal, after having given him the indications of the agency

– So, it will be – being the first to go through it, Dabi; shortly after, Spinner and Twice followed

– I'm waiting for you – Mr. Compress said goodbye before entering the purple vortex.

Once there, I was counting on the dense armored hatch to be strong enough to give me enough time to get reinforcements.

– You'll stay here and watch – Dabi indicated, as Spinner made his way between one of the windows, leaving him and Twice free. The latter was in charge of knocking out one of the Best Jeanist assistants, to make a reply that would prevent the passage of the others. Once inside, Spinner was in charge of deactivating the alarm with a perfect cut in the wiring while I looked around for a hero who was doing patrol without success. If I intervened in the operation, they wouldn't trust me again; I just hope the gate is as sturdy as I think.

– Damn! – the scale villain chuckled. I peeked over the edge of the broken window, only to find that several of his blades were broken at the foot of the hatch.

– It is impossible to go through this, useless hero – he snapped frustrated

– Sorry, I didn't contemplate that it would be made of such a dense metal – I lied

– What will we do now? This is not the time for questions, we must act. You're right – Twice rambled. He just hoped Dabi was also holding hands.

– To one side – pushing his allies, he placed his hands on the metal.

– Do you think that the floodgate that protects important records in an agency of a professional hero won't be resistant to high temperatures? – I questioned

– Just watch – from his hand came waves of heat that increased exponentially, causing the three spectators to move away from him. Despite his conflicted expression, the metal layers were indeed giving way. I didn't imagine the overwhelming power he possessed, it was as, or perhaps, stronger than that of Endeavor himself. – You can come in now – he said in a broken voice. He had created an opening in which a body could pass without difficulty. He held his left hand close to his chest; apparently, he had reached his limit. – Hurry up. – I had no time, I had to stop them somehow. – I almost forgot – turning to my direction, bringing his right hand to the intercom and this only meant one thing. I pounced on him and brought him to the ground, but it was faster – proceed – a fireball rose several meters high, causing screams of fear in the surroundings, at the same time that several alarms were being activated. It was intended to distract as many assistants from the agency. – I knew you were not going to leave us the easy way, so I weighed in an alibi

– You are a ...! – another explosion of a greater scope resounded

– It's a shame, but I'm afraid you'll have to choose what you want to save – Save? That's when I realized that the other couple of villains weren't collecting the files, they were destroying them.

Now that I think about it, if his intentions were to collect information, Mr. Compress should have been there to encapsulate the files, but instead, we were joined by someone with a potentially destructive quirk to delete them with a snap. They weren't planning on taking the files, they were testing me. That is why he argued in my favor when I said the location of the files, as well as the ease with which it took to find the heavily armored metal hatch; he already knew, he had contemplated melting it, so his intentions to join the mission, he wanted to see if it wouldn't hinder him.

– Duty calls, hero – drawing a triumphant smile as he released him to rescue civilians.

I used my feathers to ward off those affected while searching for the source of the incident. Mr. Compress had already encapsulated a few rookie heroes.

– Apparently you want to join the show too, Hawks – it was always part of the plan to ambush me. After making sure no civilians were around, I eliminated Nomus's pair without difficulty while keeping my distance from the frustrated artist. – How did the mission turn out? – He was obviously amused

– I didn't think you would be part of the plan

– Surprises are fun, don't you think? – In his hands he possessed the heroes he had captured, while the fire surrounded us. – Nothing better than encouraging chaos with two simultaneous attacks on the same night. But the show must end – A Nomu came between them, disappearing behind a Kurogiri vortex, which meant they had already finished deleting the files. I finished off the anthropomorphic monster without difficulty, while the previously encapsulated heroes regained consciousness and eliminated the rest of the mutants.

Within seconds I was back at the agency, only to find a mess of cut leaves, burning to the beat of blue flames. I had been manipulated by them.

I felt a presence behind me, and despite my swift turn, Dabi managed to cause a stinging tingle at my side.

– Did you think I would leave without saying goodbye? – He jumped back – Thanks to you, the mission was a success. I can't expect less from the contender for the second–best spot in popularity. – At his feet – By the way, don't take it personally, we had to make it credible. So long, Hawks. – disappearing shortly after.

The place fell silent, though not for long, as Best Jeanist assistants rushed into the destroyed outpost, only to find a scene on fire and a kneeling professional hero holding his side, one hand covered in blood.

This marks a before and after in the story...

Fact # 39

In the fics I have read of DabiHawks I always perceive that they fall in love in a conventional way too idyllic for a hero and a villain and well, here it won't be like that ...
