thanks for the support, can you believe we're one more chapter until the big 100? Also thanks Tingtorn you had a good idea, the twins are always doing things together, there's no problem with them doing things separately with other people. I can't believe I didn't think of doing that haha. Everyone enjoy this chapter. I hope the flow feels good to you guys. I'm introducing someone from the show on here, I had an idea so figured to add him.
The next morning Jane woke up, yawning as she stretched awake, she frowned once she realized that Maura wasn't in bed with her. Jane was about to get up out of bed when her bedroom door creaked open and in rushed Todd and Kate jumping on the bed.
"Jane, you're awake!" they shouted, wrapping their arms around her.
"Yes, that I am. Is Maura still home?" she asked, pulling away from their greeting, running her fingers through her hair.
"She just left, told us to come upstairs and not leave your room until you woke up," Todd explained and Kate nodded her head in agreement before adding on.
"She said you would probably take a while to wake up."
"Oh Maura said that, did she?" Jane shook her head, of course Maura would say something like that.
"Yeah, she also said you'd make us breakfast," Todd included, laughing as he heard his and his sister's stomach growling.
"How about this, if you two go ahead and get dressed, I'll change and we can go out for breakfast, my treat. We can spend the whole day together, doesn't that sound nice. Breakfast then we can go to the park or aquarium before the Red Sox game with Frankie if he decides to come."
Kate and Todd both bobbed their heads up and down, "I'll race you," Todd jumped off of the bed, Kate rushing behind him, closing Jane's door behind them. Jane smiled at their excitement before getting out of bed to get ready for the day.
After she changed she went into the bathroom to brush her hair before meeting the kids in the hallways, where they both wore a Red Sox jersey Tommy bought them the last time they went to the game together. Kate's jersey was pink and Todd's was green. They made sure to put food out for Chad the tortoise before they headed out the door and they decided on going to eat breakfast at Panera Bread. Once Jane parked the car in the parking lot her phone rang, she looked at the I.D. and it was Frankie's number.
Jane picked up the phone and greeted him. "Morning Frankie, I was going to call you after me and the twins had breakfast. May I ask why you're calling me?" she asked, and she could see the kids smiling in the backseat, they really loved their Uncle Frankie.
"Good morning to you too. I had a free morning and decided why not call my sister. That's okay right, I don't mean to be a bother."
"Frankie, I wish you would stop with that, you know you're important to me, but I'm sorry that you're feeling down."
Frankie was silent for a moment before letting out a sigh, "Gwyneth showed up at my apartment this morning."
"She did, what happened?"
"I told her that I didn't really want to talk to her, she gave me a letter she written months ago but never sent in the mail."
"What did it say in the letter?" Jane grew curious.
"I didn't read it, I sort of don't want to know what she has to say. Maybe I can give it to you to read and you can let me know what she wants..."
"Frankie, you need to read it yourself. I don't want to get involved, believe me, your love life stresses me out. I have kids to feed, we can talk about it later. Todd has invited you to come watch the Red Sox with us, you don't want to disappoint by not coming right?" she glanced back at Todd. "Right Todd?"
"Yes Uncle Frankie, please come with us."
"How can I say no to that?" Frankie chuckled. "Were you going to pick me up or would I just be meeting you there?"
"Whichever you decide, if you plan to drink it's best if I drive."
"Oh trust me, after the drunken wedding I had with Crowe, I'm going to hold back on drinking anything with alcohol in it for a while. Drinking just leads to mistakes and I really don't want to become Pop."
"That's a wise choice there. I'll call you back, we are also going to the aquarium after breakfast if you want to join that outing too."
"I'll think about it, you have fun with the twins. See you later," Frankie hung up after his words.
"So Uncle Frankie is coming to the game with us?" Todd asked, unbuckling his seatbelt.
"Yes, he's going to come. Now let's go eat shall we?" They nodded their heads before they got out of the car, both holding onto Jane's hands as they went inside.
Jane told the twins to go sit at a table and she would go order their food. They already discussed on the way over what they wanted to eat, it made things that much easier. Jane was very glad that they weren't indecisive when it came to food.
Once Jane got the food she went to go sit down at the table with Kate and Todd. They were halfway done eating their breakfast when Kate looked up seeing someone enter that she hasn't seen in a while.
"Cailin!" Kate jumped out of her chair and rushed over to the girl.
Cailin looked up and noticed Jane and Todd at the table eating. "Hey Kate, it's nice to see you, but maybe you shouldn't run off from Jane and your brother."
"Jane can still see me, where have you been?" she asked, grabbing her hand pulling her towards their table. Cailin felt awkward running into Jane, especially after their last conversation when Jane accused her of doing something with Tommy when he was drunk after losing Frank.
"Hi," Todd greeted with a mouthful of food.
"Todd, you're not supposed to talk and eat at the same time," Jane reminded him. "Morning Cailin, how have you been?" Jane figured she should play nice because the twins still seemed to like her.
"I've been doing alright, I started going to therapy a couple of weeks ago. Lauren has been very helpful."
"The nice lady who let us stay with Jane and Maura?" Kate asked and Cailin nodded. "Why don't you come around anymore?"
Cailin frowned at the younger girl's words, "I've been really busy lately. I'm sorry for not being around, it's been really hard for me. I should let you guys get back to your family outing. Is Maura not here," she noticed her missing half sister.
"She's at work," Jane responded. "Maybe when you aren't busy you can come over, for the twins," she shrugged, she didn't want to be alone around Cailin, the twins seemed to really miss her. Playing nice around Cailin was hard after everything.
"We can have a slumber party, it could be so much fun," Kate grinned.
"I um...I'll think about it. It was nice seeing you, you guys enjoy your breakfast and behave for Jane," Cailin gave a nod to the twins and a sad smile towards Jane.
Jane sighed and the three of them finished their breakfast in silence. "Okay, so who's ready to go to the aquarium?"
"Me!" the twins raised the hands and shouted in unison.
Jane laughed at them, "Okay, you guys are really excited." They threw their trash away and went back to the car, Jane called Frankie and told him they were done with breakfast. He agreed to go to the aquarium with them, and Kate and Todd were both very excited.
Maura had just finished performing the autopsy and went into her office to do the paperwork. She wished that Jane was still here working for BPD because Crowe was down here for the autopsy and he was hovering quite a bit and he was making snarky comments. Maura knew he was hurting over the current situation with Frankie but she didn't like him taking it out on her. Maura knew that Jane would have called him an asshole and probably threaten to kick his ass. It was going to be odd without Jane here anymore. At least she still had Frost and Frankie.
She was distracted by her thoughts that she didn't realize that Susie entered until she spoke. "Um... Dr. Isles."
Maura looked up and noticed Susie standing there, with a guy next to her with a dark scruffy beard. "May I help you Susie, and who's this?"
"My name is Kent Drake ma'am," he spoke in a Scottish accent. "I'm supposed to be working for you as your assistant."
"I don't recall asking for an assistant," Maura frowned, turning her attention back to Susie. "Why didn't I hear about this?"
"BPD thought it would be a good idea for you to have one," Susie shrugged. "I thought you recieved an email last week. I'm sorry to spring him on you, but he starts today, and I'm quite busy."
"Do you have paperwork Mister Drake?" Maura looked up at the man who looked slightly uncomfortable in this moment. Kent Drake nodded and walked over and handed Maura a folder. She looked it over and nodded, "Well you seem qualified. You may sit down, I have to ask you a couple of questions. You may get back to work Susie," she nodded, and Susie slid out of the door, closing it behind her.
"I'm sorry if I came at a bad time. I have nothing but good things to say about you."
"No, you're fine, I was just not expecting this at all," Maura turned to her laptop and went through her emails. She found what she was looking for, she did happen to get an email that she now remembered skipping over. It was when Jane came into her office the other day and distracted her. A very much needed distraction at that, she felt her cheeks flush at the moment. Momentarily forgetting the man sitting in front of her.
"Um, Doctor Isles, is everything alright?" he asked and she looked up from her computer and nodded.
"Yes, sorry. So you're here six months?"
"Yes ma'am, they wanted me to train and get experience from the best medicial examiner in the country, their words, not mine, but that doesn't mean you aren't great," he complimented. Maura shook her head, Jane would hate working with this guy, Maura could tell. "I'm very excited to be working under your supervision."
"Well I'm flattered," Maura stood up and shook his hand. "It's nice to meet you Kent Drake."
"It's very nice meeting you," he responded. "So, you're married?" he noticed the ring on her finger. Maura looked up at the man and nodded, yes Jane really would hate him.
"Yes, I am. But we're not here to discuss my personal matters, just know that I'm happily married to a woman."
"I wasn't meaning to sound like I was hitting on you ma'am. I actually just got out of a relationship she cheated on me so I'm not looking for anything," he added the last part and Maura nodded.
"Aah, well glad to hear that us working together won't be a problem then. Let me show you around Mr. Drake."
"Please, by all means just call me Kent."
"Okay, I can do that, but always call me Doctor Isles, alright? And none of this ma'am stuff, please."
"Of course Doctor Isles," he shoved his hands into his pockets.
Maura sighed to herself, it was going to be a very long day indeed.
Meanwhile upstairs Frost was hard at work, glancing over at Crowe who seemed to be a little angry, he knew it would be a good idea to stay away from him. He looked across from his desk and frowned, most of Jane's things were packed up. It was going to be rough working here without her, something he had actually been dreading since he found out about her decision to depart and become a police officer instructor and life coach.
Frost looked up hearing Cavanaugh's voice and another voice that he vaguely recalls hearing before. It was Gwyneth Roberts, Frankie's ex who left back to New York many months ago. "You remember Detective Crowe, he's Sargeant Detective now, and Detective Frost, correct?" Cavanaugh asked and she nodded, glancing over at Frost with a smile. "Good, you picked a good time to want to go back, one of our own has moved on in her career."
Crowe and Frost shared a look of disappointment, they both didn't appreciate how she left things with Frankie, she was the one who caused Frankie the most amount of pain and heartbreak. Gwen looked between the two and felt the growing tension.
"Anyways," Sean Cavanaugh nodded towards Jane's desk. "This is where you can work."
"Um sir, that's still Jane's desk, she never got the rest of her things," Frost spoke up.
"This is the only current vacant desk Detective. I'm sure Detective Roberts will be fine here," Sean spoke before heading back to his office.
"It's been a while Barry," Gwen sat down at the desk.
"Yeah it has," Frost looked at his stack of files, before giving them to Gwen to look over. "Here you can help with paperwork of current open cases, we have tons of it, right Sargeant Crowe," he raised his brow and he smirked.
"Good idea," he grabbed the pile of folders on Frankie's desk and placed them in front of Gwyneth. "There's a lot for you to look over, have fun," he smiled smugly before returning to his own desk.
"Barry, I wanted to apologize for whatever I did to you. I thought you'd be happy because I thought Frankie wanted to be with you."
"You hurt Frankie and I don't approve, and I'm not dating him. It's not any of your business but I'm with his brother and getting married. Maybe you need to apologize to Crowe over there."
"Oh, well congraulations on your engagement, it's good that you're happy. Still doesn't give me a reason why you're upset with me, and why do I need to apologize to Sargeant Crowe."
"She doesn't need to apologize to me Frost, just as she tries not to get back with Frankie. Her being back has already caused him and me some problems," he glared at Gwen.
"I do apologize, I didn't mean to cause any one trouble, just figured he should know I'd be back. We all know he doesn't like being surprised. I'm going to get started on this paperwork now," she pulled one from the stack.
"You do that," Crowe looked down, focusing back on his task on his computer. Crowe was not going to like having to work with Gwyneth, but that was something he knew he had to deal with, much to his dismay.
The room stayed quiet until Maura came upstairs with Kent Drake in tow, "This is the precinct part of the building. You'll be coming out with me on the field sometimes and you'll have to work with the detectives. So it's good for you to get acquainted with the Detectives. Sargeant Crowe, this is Kent Drake he's going to be my assistant for six months to get field experience."
Crowe stood up to greet the man, noticing how Gwen looked over and looked completely surprised. "Nice to meet you Kent."
Kent nodded, "Pleasure is mine, I'm very excited to be working here."
"Kent, what are you doing here?" Gwen walked over to him.
"I um... I'm working here for the time being. When you told me you were moving I didn't realize you meant back to Boston," he turned to Maura, wanting to fill her in, "This is my ex I was talking about downstairs."
"I see, well I honestly hope you guys working in the same building won't be a problem," Maura eyed the man and he shook his head.
"No problem here, I'll make sure of it, Doctor Isles," he spoke, turning his full attention to her. "Anyways, you said you'd show me around the cafe next."
Maura nodded, shrugging as they left the tension filled room.
"I don't even want to ask," Frost shook his head, as Gwen returned back to the desk.
"Well it's a good thing I rather not discuss it," Gwen frowned, continuing her work.
Maura and Kent made it to the cafe, she walked him up to the counter. "Good morning Lydia," Maura greeted the blonde distracted woman.
"Oh hey Maura," she turned around quickly. "Who's this?"
"Kent Drake, Maura's medical examiner assistant," the man spoke with a smile.
"Well this is a pleasant surprise, I didn't think Maura needed an assistant."
"You know Dr. Isles said the same thing. It's only a temporary position, I'm getting trained by the best M.E."
Lydia smiled, "Maura is the best at everything, and she's really smart."
"I see, are you the wife she was talking about?" Kent asked and Lydia laughed, shaking her head.
"No, Maura's great, but definitely not my type."
Maura nodded, "Kent, my wife doesn't work here anymore, she's moving onto better, safer things. Her name is Jane Rizzoli. Well technically Jane Rizzoli-Isles. She gets upset when I don't say her whole last name. She's very proud of it, actually." She felt her phone go off, she looked at the I.D. and Jane's picture popped up. "Speaking of my wife, I have to take this." Maura stepped away and answered. "Hey Jane, how's everything going? Did the twins get a good, healthy breakfast?"
"Everything is going alright, the twins and I are hanging out with Frankie. And we went to Panera for breakfast, but they ordered healthy stuff and so did I. I'm still not used to not drinking coffee."
"Well I'm so proud of you for being able to cut out coffee plus I know how much you hate decaf."
"Because that's not coffee Maur. How's your day going? I'm at the aquarium, the twins dragged Frankie off to an exhibit so I thought I'd check how you've been, it sucked not seeing you this morning."
"Well it sucks that I can't see you throughout the day here at work, it's definitely been an interesting day without you here."
"Yeah, is that so, what's been so interesting?" Jane asked.
"Crowe seems to be in a bad mood, and guess who started working here again."
"Gwen came back to the precinct, well I guess that's to be expected she did come back into town. I hope she doesn't cause any problems and that Frost and Crowe can be mature around her."
"I honestly don't think it's going so well, it felt pretty tense up there," Maura paused, looking over Lydia talking Kent's ear off, he glanced behind him at Maura with a facial expression Jane usually uses when Lydia talks to her too much. Maura couldn't help but laugh.
"What's so funny Maur?"
"I took my assistant up to the cafe and he just gave me a look like you do when Lydia talks too much."
"Assistant? I didn't know you were getting one, you never told me."
Maura could hear the sadness in Jane's voice. "Hey, don't sound so upset. I didn't hide it from you, I just never looked at my email last week about him. Susie brought him in and I had to check my emails to find if there was one. Then I recalled that one day I was responding to my emails once you came in and we got distracted."
"Oh okay, makes sense, that was a good day for a distraction. So your assistant is finding out to not converse with Lydia."
Maura laughed again, "Yes I guess so. There's something else that makes things interesting. Apparently he dated Gwen and they broke up because she cheated on him."
"Wow, why doesn't this surprise me?" Jane spoke and Maura knew Jane rolled her eyes. "So is this assistant of yours a good guy or do you expect him to be evil?"
"His name is Kent Drake, it's probably not wise to keep calling him my assistant. It makes it sound like I'm incompetent to properly do my job," Maura frowned.
"Woah there Maura, do you have hatred for him because you think people think you need help?"
"I don't have a hatred for him, he's really nice and he's Scottish. Anyways the point is, I don't like people thinking that I can't handle things by myself."
"I'm sure that nobody thinks that Maura. You're the best of the best. Kent is an interesting name he sounds like he's a superhero character."
"I will never understand your fascination for super heroes. It's like when you and the kids made me go watch Iron Man 3. I had no idea of what was going on."
"There's nothing wrong with Iron Man, Maura. I think we're getting off of the subject. You do realize you are the smartest person there is and if anyone thinks you're incompetent I'll come over and kick their ass or asses."
Maura shook her head, "You don't have to be so violent babe."
"Well I do if people are making you doubt your capabilities. You're the most smartest and amazing woman on this whole entire planet, don't let this guy make you think any less of yourself. I love you Maura, and I don't like you having these doubts. I'm here for you okay? We can definitely discuss more later," Jane sighed, she didn't like Maura getting down on herself.
"You're so good to me Jane," Maura smiled. "I love you too. So what other plans do you and the twins have?"
"After the aquarium we're going to go see the Red Sox play. Todd actually mentioned wanting to do that last night after his tea. I got to understand why he was acting strange, he thinks since we're trying to have a baby that we are trying to replace him. I told him it wasn't the case, I think he understood."
"Well that's good, I'm glad he felt comfortable enough to discuss his problems out loud to you instead of holding them in. You're such a good mama bear Jane. I should probably save Kent from Lydia and get back to work now. I hope that your team wins and that you enjoy your outing."
"I doubt it by the way they played yesterday. Anyways, Kent doesn't seem like a superhero type after all if he needs saving. Definitely more of a damsel in distress type," Jane laughed. "If he dares hit on you, I'll leave the game early just to smack him in the head."
"I knew we shouldn't have tried watching NCIS. You are totally Gibbs with the smacking."
"I'm the Gibbs to your Kate, remember?"
"Yes I remember," Maura smiled. "I can understand why Camille named her kids after Caitlin Todd, she's a very likeable character. Sort of badass. Anyways, I'll let you get back to your time off. Love you."
Jane laughed, "Love you too my precious."
"You're such a dork."
"Takes one to know one," Jane chuckled. "I'm going now, bye."
"Bye Jane," Maura shook her head in amusement before hanging up the phone. Today wasn't going to be such a bad day. She got up from the table and went to go get Kent. "Ready to get back to work Kent?"
Kent nodded, "Yeah most definitely. I'll see you around Lydia."
"Of course, I'm looking forward to it," Lydia blushed and went back into the kitchen.
"Thanks for finally coming to save me Maura, man she sure knows how to talk."
"Jane, my wife, says hi by the way, she thinks you're some sort of superhero."
"I like her, shall we go back down to lair."
"Don't only villains have lairs?"
Kent smirked, "Well maybe I'm a hero in disguise and actually am some sort of villain underneath."
"You seem too nice to be a villain."
"That could be my true secret, it's good to be bad Mau- um Doctor Isles. This seems to be a start of a beautiful friendship. Wanna be my super badass sidekick?"
Maura shook her head, "I'm too good and smart to just be a sidekick," she pressed the button to the elevator. "So want to talk about what happened with you and Gwen, besides the whole cheating thing?"
"I'd prefer not to, if that's okay. It really hurt, being cheated on, have you ever been cheated on?"
"Not to my knowledge no. I can only imagine how upsetting that could be. I would say sorry it didn't work out between the two of you, but you seem to deserve better than that. As your boss you should agree with me."
Kent chuckled, "That's why there's no problem with me working with her here. I know my worth, it just sucks she didn't realize mine."
"Well as long as you know your worth. I definitely know how that feels doubting ones worth." Maura agreed as they got back downstairs and got started on performing an autopsy on a John Doe that just came in, giving him the full working experience.
The rest of Maura's work day went without a hitch, Kent liked to talk about as much as Lydia Maura came to find out, but at least he had interesting things to say. They sort of shared the same brain, it was kind of odd, but since Jane was not working there anymore she had to have someone to talk to. She found out a lot about him, he was just as awkward as she was when she was younger it was refreshing to talk to him and she thought he would be a good friend, kind of how like Frost and Jane were friends. Plus she wasn't even attracted to him or his accent, and she used to love people with accents the most, before Jane came into her life of course. Maura would always just have eyes for her Jane, no one else mattered in that aspect.
She was in her thoughts as she made dinner, Jane told her the twins, her and Frankie were on the way home. Jane decided that after all Frankie has been going through he could stay over, plus the kids were stoked for it as well.
Maura got done setting the table as the front door opened and she heard small footsteps, she looked up just as Kate and Todd ran over to her, giving her a hug. "Maura! The Red Sox won and I caught a ball!" Todd shouted in excitement, showing it to her.
"Todd, that's great. How much sugar did he have?" she looked up at Jane with a look.
"He and Kate shared a cotton candy..." Jane started off.
"Don't forget about the slushies and kettle corn," Todd interrupted with a grin, bouncing on his heels.
"I was getting to that Todd," Jane rolled her eyes at the boy.
"Jane, I thought we agreed to not give them so much sugar."
"I wouldn't get mad at Jane," Frankie spoke up as he entered the dining room. "I kind of let them have the slushies and kettle corn, I couldn't finish it after the hot dogs."
"Oh, well, try not to give them so much next time please," Maura looked at him and he nodded. "Well I hope that you're still hungry to eat dinner that I made."
"I love food Maura, I'll eat dinner, I promise."
"Okay, let Frankie help you two wash up, alright?" she smiled at the twins.
"Alright!" Kate grabbed Frankie's head and led him to the bathroom so he could help.
"Did you have a rough rest of the day there Maura?" Jane asked, crossing her arms.
"No, my day went well. Sorry for the attitude, I just don't want them on too much sugar, it's not good for them. I've missed you today," Maura stepped towards Jane, resting her hands on Jane's arms before leaning in to kiss her. "So how is Frankie doing?"
"He's doing as well as he could be doing. Gwen gave him a letter, told him that she doesn't expect him to accept her apology or even be friends again. And a bunch of other stuff, she seems genuine, but I honestly don't know. There's not much you can get out of a letter. He didn't feel like talking to her, I know he's going to have to since she's at the precinct working again. How have you been feeling? Have you accepted that you can always use some help around work but that could never mean that you aren't good enough for your job. Maura Rizzoli-Isles is the best that ever was and ever will be." Jane rested her hand on Maura's cheek, "You know that right?"
Maura nodded, "Yeah I know, I just guess I need a reminder every now and again."
"I'll happily keep reminding you," Jane kissed Maura before pulling away. "So dinner smells amazing, thanks for having a nice hot meal for when I got home, but the roles will probably be reversed soon. I feel bad you worked all day and cooked dinner."
"It's honestly okay, I like providing for my family. Plus being with the twins is hard work sometimes."
"You got that right, they were so exhausting," Jane sat down beside Maura.
Soon the twins and Frankie came to the table, "We're all washed up now. Thanks for making dinner Maura." Kate looked at her plate, licking her lips.
"Thanks for inviting me to hang out with you guys today, it was very fun."
"I was worried about you, you are always invited, right Jane?" Todd asked and Jane nodded.
"Of course, well probably not always but more often than not," she corrected herself and Todd seemed pleased with her response.
Kate looked up from her plate and over to Maura, "We seen Cailin today at Panera when Jane took us out for breakfast. Jane said maybe she could come over for a sleepover sometime, but Cailin didn't seem too happy about that idea. And what's therapy?"
Maura looked at Jane and then two the younger girl, "Well, therapy is when you go get help for some problems, it's kind of like Jane's new job as a life coach, she helps people out to find which direction they want their life to go in. They kind of go hand in hand. I don't know if Cailin is at a point in her life where she feels wanted. If she doesn't want to come over I wouldn't take it personally."
Kate frowned at Maura's words, "I knew she didn't care about us after mama died."
Maura sighed, looking over at Jane for some assistance. "Sweetie, that's not true... it's just... it's complicated. She's probably just really sad your mother isn't here so being around makes you her sad. That didn't come out right. Cailin is complicated, I'm sure being in therapy helps. It's a struggle for all of us."
"But you and Maura and our uncles and grandparents are here for us, why can't Cailin be?"
Jane slumped her shoulders, "I-I don't know sweetie, I wish I had a better answer for you, but I don't. I'm sorry," Jane hated feeling helpless, hated seeing the look of sadness on Kate's face, it broke Jane's heart. She couldn't exactly get out what really was going on, she didn't think her knowing the real reason would make sense to her.
"Okay, I understand I guess," Kate went back to eating.
"You have a lot of people who do care about you Kate, that should be a good thing right?" Frankie decided to try to talk to her.
"Yeah, I do wish I still had mama here. Do you miss your real dad Uncle Frankie?"
Frankie turned to Kate and frowned, "To be honest, I'm not sure that I do. I haven't really tried to think about it, like I know it probably hurts thinking about your mother."
"Yes, it does. I think about her everyday though, can we go see her tomorrow Jane?"
Jane smiled and nodded, "Yeah, we can go see her, I've been thinking about her a lot lately as well. Maybe we can go to places she liked going to, maybe pay our respects by doing things she would want to do."
Kate bobbed her head, completely okay with Jane's idea. "I think she'd like looking at us seeing us celebrate her life. Are you okay with this idea Todd?" she asked her brother who just got finished eating his dinner.
"Of course, I miss mama too," he spoke sadly.
"Well I'm more than sure your mother would be happy to know what you guys want to do for her," Jane smiled, she really did miss Camille a lot.
Maura rested her hand on Jane's thigh. "Are you going to be alright Jane?"
Jane nodded, "Yeah, I-I'll be fine, can we talk in the kitchen for a moment," she took a deep breath, Maura nodded and they both got up to go into the kitchen. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about running into Cailin today."
"Don't worry about it Jane, we had other things to talk about," she kissed her cheek. "Maybe we should see if she wants to come around more, the twins really seem to miss her. I know it's difficult, considering everything, but I talked to Hope and she told me that Cailin has been doing better. I still don't really trust her around you, but we have to think about the twins. I can't recall the last time I've seen Kate so upset. It broke my heart, what you're willing to do with the kids is really sweet too, I'm sure they appreciate all you do for them," Maura took Jane's hands in hers, her thumbs running along the scars on her palms. "You're like a hero to them, you know that? We'll just make sure Cailin comes over when we're both home, that way we can keep an eye on her and that way the twins can still have her in their lives, to keep the confusion and sad emotions to a minimum."
Jane bit her bottom lip, looking into Maura's eyes, "I'm sure they'll appreciate it, plus she was pretty good with the twins, she could help with giving us some alone time as well."
Maura smirked and felt her cheeks flush, "You're so naughty when I'm trying to be sweet and understanding."
"I don't think I'm that naughty."
"Oh Jane, I beg to differ. You're so naughty, you kept me from getting to very important emails."
"Speaking of which, how was the rest of the day with Mr. Clark Kent?" Jane asked with a smirk.
"Kent Drake," Maura corrected.
"Can I refer to him as damsel in distress?"
"You know when I told him you said he was like a superhero he seemed to like that. Said he liked you. Hanging out with him today had me thinking though. You know how you can tell Frost about pretty much everything, maybe Kent will end up being my friend and acquaintance like Frost is for you. I can relate to Kent in a lot of ways, I swear we have this odd understanding of each other in a small amount of time."
"So what you're saying is he's a huge nerd and you guys can talk Google to each other and you don't have to explain things to him, like you do me?" Jane raised her eyebrows and Maura nodded.
"Yes, basically, but remember those were your words, not mine. You're very smart in your own way, you got street smarts and that's a very wise thing to have. If you and I had to live on the streets, you'd survive much longer than I would."
"Well I don't necessarily true, I'd protect you at all costs, if anything I'd survive less time because I'd get injured trying to protect my beautiful wife."
"I love you so much Jane," Maura stood up on her toes and gave Jane a kiss, brushing her tongue gently against Jane's bottom lip, Jane opened her mouth to give Maura access. Jane moaned softly, feeling herself being pressed into the counter.
"And you said I was the naughty one," Jane blushed, stroking the hair out of Maura's face. "I wonder if Frankie would be upset if we left him with the kids."
"Well, since he's staying the night in the guest house, I'm sure the twins wouldn't mind having a slumber party with him, they seem to love that kind of stuff," Maura bit her bottom lip and Jane inwardly groaned. "Let's get back to the table, we can discuss this later."
"Oh I'm anxiously awaiting that discussion," Jane grinned, smacking Maura lightly in the butt.
"I don't know what to do with you sometimes."
Jane laughed, and winked, "Oh babe, you know exactly what to do to me. You're very good at it, you realize this right?" Maura just smirked, returning back to the table, enjoying the rest of the evening.
So what are your thoughts? Jane had a cute little outing with the twins and her bro, minus the awkwardness of seeing Cailin. I hope you like my addition of Kent Drake, I promise he has no interest in Maura (he's not a threat), I feel like they will have a friendship like I gave Frost and Jane in this story. Gwen's arrival seems to be causing some problems, poor Frankie and he gonna have an interesting time at BPD with two exes and Crowe who's relationship at this point is still unknown to you readers and to Frankie and Crowe themselves. The twins being sad over Camille not being around and feeling like Cailin doesn't like them definitely doesn't help them out and makes me a bit sad. I love including the twins more in my story, but I still give Rizzles their moments like the phone call and their kitchen talk. long live Rizzles!
