Part 42
Caitlin sat in the back of the lecture auditorium at Central City University. She was watching both the students who looked bored to death and Professor Clifford Devoe. She didn't blame them from being bored. Devoe's monotone voice reminded her of that one teacher in Ferris Buehler's day off. Not that she was a fan of 1980's comedies. It was one of the few not science fiction movies that Cisco had made her after Ronnie was thought to be killed by the particle accelerator explosion. A bell rang and the students seemed to flee in relief. Caitlin waited until the last student left before standing up walking down the stairs to where Devoe was looking through his notes.
"Dr. Snow, you realize that there was only a 78.72% chance that you would come alone. It was an 89.91% chance that Mr. Allen would be the one to come alone, and a 27.74% you both would come together." Said Devoe
"You do know that we will stop you. This enlightenment that you are planning is never going to happen." Said Caitlin
"You really think that you and your little friends can stop me?"
"I nearly stop a so called God of Speed by myself. You might be smart Devoe. But here is the thing you put too much faith in logic and predictability. The thing about people is they are not logical or predictable."
"Dr. Snow, there is nothing you can do to stop me."
"Actually the metas you want that were sent to Iron Heights are no longer there. Wolfe is no longer warden either. Without Kilg you will never be able to get into STAR Labs. Where other metas you want are being held. Once we reveal the truth to your wife she will leave you. Not that you will really care. You only care about her engineering skills. You believe that emotions are an unnecessary weakness. But that is where you are wrong."
"Dr. Snow, I suggest you leave before I have campus security escort you out."
"I was heading out anyway. Just know that you are not going to win and you will never find the metas you created. I know you have sent your wife to find Dominic Lanse. Hate to break it to you but he and Matthew Kim have been placed into protective custody by ARGUS. I have no idea where they have been hidden."
Caitlin walked out with a smile on her face. She picked up her phone when she heard it go off with a text.
Where are you?
She just shook her head. Leave it to Barry to worry about her.
She typed a replay quickly as she got in her car.
Had something to take care of. On my way to STAR now. Don't worry so much. I can take care of myself.
She had just started to drive when the phone rang. She looked to see Barry's picture on the screen. Putting it on speaker she answered.
"Barry, I am fine. Nothing happened to me."
"It's just that I got to STAR labs and you weren't here. Cisco had no idea where you were. Barbara refused to say if she knew or not. Guess she is used to being very tight lipped working with Batman and all."
"Yeah she is. But unless she has a tracker on me which I actually wouldn't put pass her. I also wouldn't put it pass her to have some how gotten something to listen in on phone calls on our phones."
Caitlin could hear Barry chuckling on the other end of the call.
"I would say you are right about that. Barbara just turned nearly as red as her hair."
"Yeah well she could have done it by hacking our phones."
"Well when you get here we will have a talk with her."
"Yeah we will. I will see you soon. Love you Barry."
"Love you Cait."
Caitlin hung up sighing. She really wished that Barbara hadn't hacked their phones. But did understand she was trying to help protect her. Just like when they were in college. As she drove Caitlin's mind drifted back to one night her first year on campus.
She was walking back to her dorm late from the library when a guy came up behind her. He grabbed her. She struggled to get away but he was too strong. The next thing she knew the guy was on the ground and there was someone in a black costume with red hair sticking out the back of a cowl and a yellow bat on her chest.
"I don't think the lady wants to go with you." Said a slightly familiar voice.
The woman in the bat suit turned and looked at her.
"Get back to your room. I will make sure he doesn't follow."
Caitlin nodded and ran.
It was after that night Caitlin began to see that there were people out in the world that cared about others.
After hanging up Barry turned to Barbara who was making herself very busy doing something on one of the computers.
"Cait will be here shortly. Then Oracle can explain why she hacked our phones." Said Barry
"What the frack! Aren't we on the same side Red?" asked Cisco
"We are on the same side. I placed trackers on each of your phones in case any of you get kidnapped." Said Barbara
"That part I understand. It's the part about being able to listen in on private phone conversations. But I am guessing that Batman only cares about his private conversions and no one else's." said Caitlin walking in her eyes glowing.
"Ok maybe I shouldn't have done that. But to be honest I kind of had to do it. Batman wants to put together a team. Much like the one you did Barry to fight the aliens. But he wants to know he can trust you. He doesn't trust easily. I am one of the handful of people he does trust. So he had me spy one you. I am sorry."
"Just don't do it any more. I want to trust you. But I have been burned too many times before." Said Barry
"I don't plan to. But rest assured that I never would spy on you in an intimate time." Said Barbara
"True you only hacked our phones. Not like it wasn't the first time you hacked mine. You did it in college. But then it was because despite being annoyed at first with having to room with a girl three years younger than you, you started to care about me. By the time I graduated I think you began to see me as something more then a friend." Said Caitlin
"You're right. You became the sister I wanted as a kid. I know we lost touch for a while. But I never stopped caring about you Caitlin."
"Nice to know that."
Just then the meta alert went off.
"We got a big problem guys. The satellite is picking up high levels of radiation in downtown Central City." Said Cisco
"It's got to be Neil Bormon. Cisco did you ever finish that cold gun?" asked Caitlin
"Yeah why?" asked Cisco
"Because we need it to cool him down or everyone between Star City and Gotham is as good as dead. Barbara can Tim handle it? We don't want to kill Bormon but we need to stop him." Said Caitlin
"He should be able to. Then tell him to suit up. I would go but in my condition it is not a good idea." Said Caitlin
"I would hope that unless it is absolutely necessary you would stay out of the field honey." Said Carla walking in.
"Mom, there is something you can help me with. You tried to develop a cure for me. If we look through dad's papers maybe we can find a cure not only for him, but Bormon and others like him that don't want powers." Said Caitlin
"Oracle, your on coms. Cisco suit up you are going with me and the kid." Said Barry
Cisco and Tim both nodded and went to change. Caitlin and Carla headed into the med lab to get to work on seeing if they could come up with a cure using Thomas's notes.
