A/N
Multi-chapter update today. Chapters 34-36 have been added. We're getting close to the end...but we're not there yet. These are the "complete" logs for the SR-1...so, yup, I'll be including the ME2 prologue. Plus I have a (very short) interstitial story about Garrus's awesome-super-fun times at C-Sec after ME1. I'm not sure yet whether I'll be posting that as a separate story or include it in this one...stay tuned. :-)
GV: Commander, do you have a minute?
CS: Technically, I have ten before we're in Hades Gamma. What is it?
GV: It's about that. Exactly that. Why are we going to Hades Gamma and not the Mu Relay?
CS: Hackett called.
GV: Don't you think we might have other priorities than one of his Alliance missions? Like, for example, stopping Saren from wiping out the galaxy.
CS: Trust me, Vakarian, I'm not thrilled about the side trip either.
GV: Then why do it? You're a spectre. It's your call. I get that you're still loyal to the Alliance but you aren't in Hackett's chain of command anymore. You can tell him we've got other priorities. Which we do.
CS: Pressly's done the nav calculations. Even with a stopover in Chohe, the Normandy will still handily outrun any of the Alliance ships they could send in pursuit from the Citadel. We need to be off Chohe in three hours or less, but that should be doable. Get in. Rescue hostages. Burn out of there. Should be doable.
GV: Three hours could make a big difference for Saren.
GV: Also, you haven't answered my question: why?
CS: There are hostages, Garrus. And no time to send another team.
GV: How many?
CS: No idea. Dozen or so, I'd guess.
GV: So...twelve humans versus the trillions of lives that will die if Saren beats us to the conduit?
GV: You can't save everyone, Shepard.
CS: This conversation is over, detective. It's my call and it's been made.
GV: You're risking too much.
CS: I said we were done.
GV: Understood, Commander.
GV: Good luck down there.
CS: Just make sure you're ready for Ilos once we're back, got it?
GV: Yes. Of course Commander.
GV: I'll be ready.
CS: Good.
Chat ended.
